Two days ago I updated my WiFi nexus from 4.2.2 to 4.3. Everything went smooth except one thing. Prior the update I had an app called Hola running. (This app is changing the IP of the device to let you connect with web pages like Pandora radio.) I forgot to stop this app from running before updating my nexus and after the update this app is not working but it keeps changing my IP. I uninstalled it but nothing changed. Checking my IP through pages like whatismyip.com it seems that I am behind a proxy. In this nexus I have a second user accound for my wife without hola app and its IP is the correct one. What can I do to correct the problem? Thanks in advance.
Did Hola require root? You would have lost root with the update. I hope there is a better answer for you, but a factory data reset may be required.
This app requires root but my nexus is still rooted after the update to 4.3. I don' t want to factory reset my tablet as I don' t want to setup two accounts from the beginning.

You're fortunate to have kept root. Most have had to re-root after the update, including me. Have you tried to uninstall and re-install the app? Perhaps the app needs an update. You could check with the developer.

Do you actually have root, or did you just look to see if you had SuperSU/Superuser installed and see a popup? Go into your Superuser app and double check, because there is no way you should have been able to preserve root from 4.2.2/4.3.
After updating to 4.3 I installed supersu update zip for 4.3 and my nexus is rooted again.
I have already send 2 mails to the developers of hola but I got no answer yet.

And you're still having this problem after the update?
As I have already told in my first post this happened after the update to 4.3.
@everyone: Please answer if you have a solution to my problem. Thanks again.
Finally the problem solved after the Hola app Devs released a compatible for 4.3 version. @all: thanks

Just for your info. When I woke up today I found that my Note N5110 has downloaded a new firmware update ans is asking for install. The firmware is 164.63 Mb. Of course I didn't installed because my tablet is rooted with civato custom kernel. Just be careful!
Mine is not rooted and still running original ROM. update was already downlaoded and just needed reboot and 5 minutes later back up !
Only info was that it had better stability..
Mine is rooted with custom recovery twrp installed, exposed framework, tweakbox, app options, and a few apps set up at 160dpi. When checking for an update the device tells me that my device has been modified and updates are not available. So I guess I have nothing to worry about
The pronlem is that when I try to check for software updates the device do not find anything but after a while in the notification bar appears even though I restart the tablet. My fear is to loose root after install the update.
Be carefull you will lost root, I did, and now I cant root!!! framaroot is not working any more!!

did you try CF-Root?

I used Voodoo Root Keeper and restored root and it works fine. My unit was stock though.

Just pulled this update now. Assuming its not 4.2.2? I saw 164MB and thought . . . maybe.
Shouldn't be too long though, didn't they claim 4.2.2 for a few other devices in June-July? :fingers-crossed:
Used voodoo ota root keper and went ahead and downloaded! Worked like a charm! Thanks guys!

Definitely not 4.2.2. Don't see what's different.

Unrooting the old version works perfectly. But you will not be able to root with Framaroot after you did the update...

Confirmed CF-Auto-Root worked...THANKS!
FYI it may refuse to update because "device is modified" when it is unmodified. Fix is simple... Shutdown, remove sdcard, boot up and update. Replace sdcard later and all is good.
This is for those that are being mistakenly notified that their system is modified. I hope this saves someone some time.
I can confirm that CF-Root works with the new firmware. Just to play I downloaded the new firmware (MF1) and installed via Kies then applied CF-Root with Odin and my Note 8.0 is now rooted with the last software update version.
for us non-rooted folks, does anyone know what the update does. All it said was "stability improvements"

This didn't help on a friend's. His was rooted the exact same as mine. We tried unrooting, voodoo, factory reset, with and without sd... nothing works. Keeps saying it can't update because the device is modified. Anyone have any ideas? It was rooted with framaroot... no idea what else to do.

Use KIES on PC. Connect the tablet and see if the update is available, if so update it with KIES.
so before i had my nexus 4 rooted, and now i just updated to 4.3 via OTA.
do i need to do the unlock and root thing all over again from the beginning, as I did with 4.2?
BTW, where is the "thank you" button people have been talking about, there are posts i really to "thank" but i never found the "thank you" button. i might being dumb but plz do tell me.
actually i got a "fallen on the ground" Android while doing OTA. should i refer to any other upgrade method? or just choose wipe to factory reset?
Normally even with root, you can do an OTA update and it would be fine, but it seems that 4.3 has changed something and loads of people are having problems when doing OTA update while rooted. I would highly suggest doing a factory reset before updating to 4.3.

Seems I'm in luck (except for losing root). Coming from rooted 4.2.2 I installed the OTA without errors.
My build is: JWR66V, I saw there also is another build.
Is there a problem with only one build?
god my screen has been stuck with the big X for quite a long time. guess I need to do some bootload and wipe?
omg it just keeps rebooting after every 10 minutes of use. damnit

Well there is only one OTA build I think. The other one you saw was probably the leaked 4.3 rom.

Nexus 4 rendered in a hapless state
List of bugs:
Quick Settings has disappeared
No/incessant notifications
Voice calls automatically disconnected
Lock screen disabled
Home button function unresponsive
Screen timeout on launching applications
Search does not open in the browser
Power Off sans any other options
Sync fails
Abrupt disruption in Network connections
The problem was solved by a factory data reset with a Google Backup.
Anyone else faced similar issues?

Yes, go to recovery and do a full wipe.
After the latest update for Chrome I noticed that the downloads no longer show in the notifications panel (while they're active). I only get a notification when the file being downloaded is done and ready.
Any way to fix this ? What if i wanted to cancel a download before its finished ?
You can use the download app on your phone and cancel the download as well.

The "Downloads" app ? it doesnt show the download progress bar and i dont think i can cancel a download while its downloading. Is there no way to get it in the notifications panel like before ?
Ok. You should go to settings->apps and choose chrome. Disable it. And install the new update once again. Works for me.

Just tried that, didnt work. However when I disabled chrome and got back to the older version, i tested a download and everything went fine. As soon as i updated to the newest version i stopped getting the download progress bar in the notifications panel.
Is it a bug ? or is it a feature of the newest version of Chrome ??

according to me is a bug. if it is a feature, it must not be an effective update. why we can't even find our download items in download apps. but if your internet connection is good, you should not afraid of anything, just find your download items in sdcard/downloads. OR maybe you won't need to update the newest version, i don't see significant changes between those version. OR you need to wait for the new update. OR...

i don't know whether this is right or wrong. i found out this problem after updated android 4.3 JWR66V(chrome update is earlier than android 4.3 update). But then, when i root my phone, the newest update of chrome does show the download progress. hit thanks!

Hi all,
I've been searching this forum (and the rest of the internet) for this question but there are not really similar answers.
I would like to root my nexus 4 just to be able to change the host file in the system folder. The rest if the phone I would like to remain stock (for now). But since android 4.4 is coming up I was wondering if it is still possible to receive the OTA update after performing this action.
Anyone knows an answer to this question?

edit: I am checking on something for you... you will receive OTA updates but checking to see if host file is one of the files it checks before it upgrades.
More than likely any changes to your system folder will cause it too fail
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417810
In my experience you still receive OTA updates, but you lose root while updating. I'm not sure if the hosts file is changed though.
If you're rooted and you've stock recovery then you'll be able to Upgrade but if you've rooted n installed 3rd party recovery then you'll receive update but it won't install. It will fail.

Are you sure about that? I've been running cwm recovery ever since 4.2.0. Every ota update was received and installed without issues, but I always simply lost root until a new method for the new android release appeared.
You can still receive OTA but I would suggest not accepting it and flash it manually using a "safe" method. The OTA update from 4.2 to 4.3 caused problems on rooted phones. Usually it is fine but 4.3 changed the file system which caused the problem, so better be safe than sorry.

Thank you all for your replies, this tells me again that it is quite difficult to say what happens. Since KitKat is probably coming to the Nexus 4 one of these days I will stay stock for now and decide later if I want to root my phone.
I used superSU Pro, and turned on "survival mode" when I did the OTA update to 4.3, and didn't have any problems losing root. Sometimes I'll get a message say I may have lost root access, but I've never had any problems with apps that require root.

on the last update.. I wasn't getting the OTA until I unrooted. I think you have to unlock the bootloader too.. then I immediately received the OTA. I didn't have stock recovery. I was glad that I didn't have to wipe everything.. I then re-rooted.. was good to go.

Do you have issues with your internet connection? That mandatory update for 4.3 is very small, IIRC under 1MB.

Nop, i have a good internet of 4mb, And it seems to download every app on my ipad but its not working on nexus 7, after a restart i am able to bypass the current screen without downloading the update. Now the nexus 7 is up and running but still i am not able to download any update. And i also noticed that the nexus 7 is already running 4.3. So now i am looking to get this mandatory update as well as kitkat 4.4.
For update, i am able to install many apps on nexus 7, but still not able to get the mandatory 4.3 updates from the settings.

It isn't saying you have a mandatory update to give you 4.3.
The tablet was mistakenly shipped with 4.3 signed with developer keys. The mandatory update is to give you the same 4.3, but signed with release keys. That is why it is so small.
The mandatory 4.3 update URL is here:
http://android.clients.google.com/p...b191a-razor-devkeys-to-releasekeys-JWR66N.zip
Can you download that in your browser on your tablet?
If your ultimate goals is to get 4.4, it would be simpler in your case to flash the factory images available here:
