MultiROM is a multi-boot mod, which is easy to use and packed with features. It
supports all Android ROMs as well as other operating systems like Ubuntu Touch
or WebOS. It can also boot from USB drive, assuming the device supports OTG.
Right now, MultiROM is available for the first generation Nexus 7. It has already
proven itself with hundreds of users - feel free to browse the XDA thread
or search youtube for all the videos.
I'd love to bring MultiROM to more devices, 2nd-gen Nexus 7 being the first one
in line. However, I need the device to do that and that's where you, the community,
come in: help me get the test device to port MultiROM as well as provide
support down the road on Mod edit: link removed

How much additional funds would you need to get a Nexus 4 too and port MultiROM for it?
Depending on your answer, I will gladly take part in contributing, despite not going to buy the new Nexus 7...
It depends on availability of Nexus 7 in EU after the capmaign is over. Worst-case scenario where I'd have to send it from the US is about $375 (taxes and shipping). The N4 is available in Czech Republic and it costs about $500. Indiegogo takes 4% of all money the campaign makes, so finally, it would require the campaign to make about $915 to fund N4.

915$? Would it be better if somebody collect the phone for you and then ship it to Czech Republic?
Envoyé depuis mon Nexus 7 en utilisant Tapatalk 4
Just to be clear - $915 is total for both devices, not just N4. I'm not sure how much does N4 cost in the US, but the shipping costs quite a lot and you have to add 20% from the price as tax.

A used Nexus 4 sells for about $250 in the US.
Thank you for your quick response!

Okay, we're halfway there! Thank you all for your support. We're not there yet however, hope it will continue and we'll reach the target!
Also, apparently, I'd be able to get the devices a bit cheaper by buying it in Germany, which puts N7+N4 stretch goal to about $800. It really depends on how the prices will be once the campaign's finished, it looks like N7v2 might be available in Czech Republic by that time.

So, while we're waiting for the campaign to finish and hopefully succeed, let me try to test some things in advance, but I need some info about the device.
Can you please run following commands on the new N7, and post files /sdcard/dmesg.txt and /sdcard/iomem.txt to pastebin/somewhere so that I can read them?
Code:
su
dmesg > /sdcard/dmesg.txt
cat /proc/iomem > /sdcard/iomem.txt
You'll need root, of course. Thank you.
I am still waiting to root mine to make sure that my screen issue is only software...

Your software is a major part of what made me want a Nexus 7 2013 in the first place. I'm excited to see where Linux development goes, but all of it is for naught for me if I can't dual boot. I don't have a ton to contribute at the moment, but I threw $10 in. Really hoping this reaches its goal!
Okay, thanks for those files. It doesn't look as ideal as I'd like it to be, but hopefully it won't cause any problems. I've ported the kexec-hardboot patch from Grouper. That patch is pretty important part - it allows me to boot other kernels. Of course, I can't test it, but at least it builds and I _think_ it should work.

well i have no experience finding out how to root a device, but i am more than happy messing around in a command line and cooking my own roms. but tbh i wouldn't be surprised if this came with a 100% unlocked boot loader and possibly 100% rooted. so hopefully it should just be a simple job of cooking up some roms, well lets just hope

wait one sec are you buying the ipad fake or the white one because i would have thought both would hopefully have the same bootloader hoepfully unlocked. but the ipad fake has a 1.2ghz if i have read correctly
I received my unbranded m001 yesterday. unfortunately it isn't unlocked. But I'm working on figuring out the boot loader mechanism. ADB doesn't seem to find it when I connect it to my computer via the supplied USB cable but I'm still hopeful. I'll post what I can figure out.

is yours the ipad fake or the white one? and does it have market on it?
Had I know of the Ipad fake I would have opted for it ,.but no, its the white one. It does have a market app but not the Android market. So the market enabler or a custom firmware will be needed to make this device really shine. Of course they might release a firmware update when it hits a more mass market status but I wouldn't count on it.
More info about the device.
I was wrong about it not having root access. Seems the file system is wide open. I went ahead and made a su command in /system/bin for good measure but I am still having trouble running programs that require root level access to the system. USB debugging is on but I'm not sure its running.

thanks dude i might contacts one of the guys that sells them on ebay and be a checky bugger and ask for a promo one that i can review and then link everyone to his account to buy them, could just work
I've sent an e-mail to Eken regarding future software updates...and they completely ignored it and sent me a request to fill out a sale form (how many units I want, address, etc) and they will provide me with "rock bottom price with high quality"
I'm on the edge of getting the M001 just to play around with because it's so cheap, but the Archos 7 Home Tablet has a few features that are just so tempting and the price isn't too much higher (199$).
To those of you who have this already: Does this device support multitouch? The descriptions say it's got a capacitive touch screen, but Chinese knockoff product descriptions are always very sketchy.

i think i read somewhere that one of them had multi touch but then one contradicted that and said it had a resistive touch screen, but tbh multi touch isn't always that much better just as long as its a pretty good quality resistive it isn't that much more work than using a capacitive
Well, if the M001 has a capacitive multitouch-capable screen it would appeal to me more than the higher quality, more storage space Archos 7HT. The A7HT has a resistive screen, 8GB of NAND, 7-8 hours of battery life. M001 has 2 hours battery, 2GB storage, and an unknown touch screen
well i emailed one of the dudes from ebay hopefully he might see sense and give me one for free but i doubt it

yeah resistive could be nicer as its more precise (i think) meaning it could be used easier as a note pad type thing, but i do prefer typing u gotta see my hand writing LOL.
Just wondering if there were any other developers willing to work on the A7 or (more preferably) the A7+. Dexter seems to have quit or lost interest his development permanently on either devices (I think he doesn't have a physical device to work with anymore, but I don't remember where I heard this). The last time he logged on to Tablet Roms was on "04-27-2012", and the last time he logged on to XDA was, well, today actually but he doesn't seem to have any interest in the eLocity forum section. He DID leave us with quite a lot of quality ROMs to work with, especially since the kernel was released for the + in March.
If there aren't any developers willing to work with the A7/A7+ because they don't have a physical device, I would willingly offer remote testing on my A7+ (AKA they give me the compiled ROM(s) or whatever and I try it out and give feedback). It just seems like such a shame to leave both devices with nothing better than a buggy (but still awesome) Honeycomb or a working stock 2.2. ICS seems like it would be doable, again especially since the kernel was released.
I will try to contact the user "chinabull" in the referred link as he seemed like he knew what he was doing when he said "It seems to have all the driver source code we need."
And I have also posted this over at TR.
EDIT- Turns out I can't send PM's to chinabull here, forgot about that. I'll find some other means of communication.
EDIT2- I'm crazy- the message got through; chinabull messaged back! And... he said that he already returned his A7+. So we've got no leads there.
If anyone knows some devs who haven't even heard of the A7/A7+ but might be willing to pick up where Dexter left off, please contact them or let me know so that I can contact them.

I would be willing to pony up CDN $20 towards the purchase of one for a talented (and dedicated) dev to work with. Here in Canada they are available as refurbs for about $90 from places like factorydirect dot c a ..
Anyone else want to donate some dinero ?

Sorry for the late(ish) reply, I was out of town.
I don't have any money to donate, sadly, as I just spent it on the A7+...
But, like I said in the OP, if you are willing to work from afar we could do that.
It's a shame it's dead. Prices are around $90 in the US too. With all the china pads out there getting 2nd tier dual core processors with 600 res screens for very little more, it's easy to see why this would go by the wayside. One plus would be built in bluetooth which no china pad has at anything close to this pricepoint, and it probably has a better battery than many of them as well.
We've got someone over at Tablet Roms who will be working on the A7+! He is just waiting on the tablet to arrive.

I'd donate if you're talking about developing for the (older) A7. I still use mine and it would be nice to see a fresh rom for it.
I'd be in if I didn't just pick up the ZTE Optik from Sprint. Can't beat free and can't beat running JB via CM10. That 800 res is quite nice.
I'd greatly appreciate someone picking up work on the A7+. I still haven't flashed the newer firmware with the blank screen from sleep fix because I was holding out hope for a new custom rom. I'd have to root and install the outdated gapps again... And I'm sure we don't have unreasonably high expectations. I'd just like a rom without those awful elocity apps, doesn't black screen when I wake it, with google play, and with functioning hardware, anything more is welcome but uneccessary.

Maybe, I don't know. You'd have to ask him yourself - http://www.tabletroms.com/forums/members/jam4.html
"I am about 2 weeks out from releasing a working Honeycomb build for the A7+. Let me know how many of you are interested, either by pm or an email to [email protected]"
Everyone go PM or Email him!
So...2 weeks out? How'd that go?
Btw, the A7+ is at 1saleaday again for $70 this time. I'm willing to buy one and ship it to a developer if that's a hurdle since I'm pretty sure there are enough people out there that would want a solid Honeycomb or even Gingerbread firmware. I don't have the time/obsession to figure out the coding myself.
Heads up to those interested.. I think the kickstarter campaign is going to start soon. Looks like it could be pretty decent if the hype is anything to go by.
Hopefully they'll involve communities like this one in their development, it'd certainly help brand awareness!

Congrats guys, hope it's a step above the rest. It is refreshing to see companies interact with the paying public like that, I know pebble did really well with their campaign, but I'm not sure how open they were to suggestion from the community.
Unfortunately (fortunately) I procured a fenix 3 for my birthday recently and it suits me down to the ground, otherwise I'd have definitely grabbed one of these.
Looking forward to the Onyx to add to my collection: seems to offer a lot of possibilities and upgrades for the smart watch communities...wondering if I'm developing a watch addiction...12 steps here I come................

I've received mine - it's easy enough to get Android APKs and Wear APKs on to it, but it lacks a browser and account manager so many apps will crash out. However, many also work perfectly fine, particularly once you modify the DPI.
It's a lovely watch - the best I've owned, although the Gear S running Android is also very functional in a different (ie fully Android) way.
Rooting is problematic for now - most of the usual apps aren't successful at rooting. Has anyone found a successful process?
No problems with the CPU and it charges quickly wirelessly. All in, a lovely watch.
Question - other than the custom OS features, is it worth more than the £99 Gearbest watches? I'm not sure, but it's certainly stylish.
I'd buy it at £130, but I think that's the price point all good smartwatches should be at.

Being an MTK2601 based smartwatch, are you able to dump the ROM files with MTK droid Tools and SP Flash tool?
I posted a thread over on G+ asking for advice on a few phones and an Edward Lewandowski replied telling me to check out the 6p. Well initially that was my plan A, so I'm going with my plan A. I have to wait for a few more days before I get my pell grant refund back (EC Engineering at University of Alabama). I've been following Swappa the last few days. Storage is really gonna come down to what you use it for. 64GB is more than enough for me but if you store a lot of media on your phone it might not be. Are you planning on modifying the phone? If so check out my guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
I make 64 gb work but find more storage is never bad. I use multirom (eventhough my daily driver has been Pure Nexus since early July) but I might test out more roms if I had the extra space. It turns into a bit of a detterent if I know I have to migrate data elsewhere just to test and then put it back. But generally speaking, 64 gb works fine for me.
Hello friends,
As you all already noticed, there has been some breakthrough in development for our (aging) device. @followmsi did a great job maintaining the 3.18 kernel, bumping up our device to the latest android versions where @tschmid took care of providing us with the pixel experience builds. Recently we managed to get project treble running and some time later @Vartom surprised us with a proof of concept a 4.9 kernel, ported from the shield TV which shares the same Nvidia chipset. This breakthrough means that we are on the edge of a bright future for the Pixel C for as long as Nvidia continues to support and update their 2015/2017 shield line. We expect this to continue for a couple more android releases.
Now we got to the point that @Vartom, with his knowledge, is the only one capable of porting the drivers to get everything running on our system and he has spend numerous hours already in his free time. On the shield development, there is also 1 lead developer (Aaron Kling) who maintains custom lineage builds for the complete shield line. I saw a big advantage in merging our 4.9 project in their trees and continue development together (https://gitlab.incom.co/groups/CM-Shield). Unfortunatly, Aaron does not own a Pixel C tablet, which means that he can not support Vartom in further development of the kernel which has hit dead ends on some problems.
By this, I am setting to set up a donation thread to donate a used Pixel C device to Aaron. On ebay they sell around 150 - 200€. It will be shipped straight from the auction to Aaron. I would like to ask the pixel C community to support them by donating a small amount to keep our device up to date and bring new features like 4K youtube playback, faster performance, ... to our device. I will start with a donation 20€ and I hope we will reach the target soon to provide Aaron a development device. All updates on the shipping status and tracking will be shared here. The maximum amount of donations is set at 200€. If the device costs less, the rest amount will be transferred to Vartom for all the hours he spent on getting the 4.9 kernel in the alpha 3 state.
Thank you for your time and we hope to continue work on our great device for many years to come!

Thank you for your contribution Chan!
225 USD donated, we reached our goal, thank you all so much!
We found a good deal on Ebay and did not hesitate to buy the item for about 150 USD, It will be shipped straight to Aaron. (https://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/184346276104)
I transferred the remaining 75 USD to Vartom.
Please remember and take in account that Aaron, as well as Vartom do this as a hobby in their spare time so the pace of development will depend on this.
Progress can be monitored on gitlab (https://gitlab.incom.co/CM-Shield) and we will post further updates on the 4.9 kernel thread on xda.
Thanks again!
Thanks to everyone for the help in the form of collected funds for the purchase of the tablet. And also thanks for the fact that the remaining part of these funds from the purchase was transferred to my paypal account. This is the first donate I received for working on this tablet.
Hi all,
I hope everyone is safe during these difficult times. I want to share some updates about the current status of the 4.9 kernel. It does boot and seems to function fairly well but there are several issues which haven't been sorted out yet.
From Aaron:
1) Sound on the latest kernel. Vartom had it working using an older kernel branch, but no one has got it straight on the current.
2) Embedded memory controller stuff. Vartom has that working with a massive revert of common code. We should be able to make that work using stuff similar to what icosa (Nintendo switch) does. This and sound are the main blocker for merging everything to my main shield branches.
3) Gamma issues. This is common to all shield builds, but it's pretty stark on the dragon tablet builds. Once (if) this is fixed for one device, it'll be fixed for all. It can be worked around by disabling hwc overlays in dev settings, but that's not something I want to enable by default and ship. Kills performance of the ui.
4) Power management. LP0 has issues (Deep sleep, ..), but that's not the main issue. Reboot, power off, etc. None of those actually work. And I can't figure out what the bootloader is actually looking for. If I try to reboot, the device just hangs after everything powers down. Have to do a hard power off and turn it back on.
Ill inform about the status as soon as there is improvement.

I can see that Aaron is busy with Lineage 18 trees for Nvidia devices. Not particular just for ours but all of them so I think that work on the kernel side of the pixel C is not yet continued. You can follow his work here:
https://gitlab.incom.co/groups/CM-Shield/-/activity
I will check if we could do a kernel build for lOS 17 in it's current state for people to try.
