So I was in a fishing boat that had a small leak and an inch or so of water was in it. I noticed my phone had fallen in that water and I immediately pulled it out. Everything seemed to be working fine. But here's the weird part: Notification sounds play just fine on the loud speaker but music and media like videos and youtube refuses to make any sound. Does that make any sense at all? Ringtones and text tones playing out that speaker but no music or anything? Can someone please explain how that's possible?

yes it was. alright now for some reason the top speaker is suddenly working and now the bottom speaker is even playing music. That was really weird. I guess my phones a survivor.
I've had this issue before. Seems to me to be an communication error with playback. Certain apps use different algorithms to relay sound. Obviously, the water disrupted that string. In my case, sound completely died shortly thereafter.
Hope that's not the case for you.

Yeah, it takes a long time for speakers to dry out. They should be fine once dry.
Dam you got so lucky!!

Has anyone had any problems with their speaker going out? Mine is starting to have that annoying vibrating noise when in a call, almost as if the speaker has come loose.
Just curious if anyone else has had this issue.
As a matter of fact I just got my rear speaker replaced Sat. Only took em 5 min. Mine sounded like crap. Staticy as hell before.

this is actually the front speaker, so it gets that extremely annoying sound when trying to hear what someone is saying. I called up Sprint and after convincing them that I live too far from a repair center, they're sending me another phone this week for nothing.
Haha I blew my back speaker blasting music in power amp with the eq set to make it REALLY loud... Were did u get it replaced
No I'm not using Tapatalk... I'm using the XDA Premium app, cause I got balls.

Every now and then, when opening an app or using the system buttons at the bottom, a very short "click" noise comes from the speaker. I have my N4 on silent/vibrate all the time and it is not an operating system noise that's meant to be there because its random. The best way to describe it is that it seems like the phone is "accidentally" starting to play a sound then stopping because its realised its in silent mode.
Anyone else getting this? Views on this problem?
(It happened again as I was typing this, so it happens through the the keyboard key presses as well)

I get that click noise occasionally on my HTC HD2.
Running PACMAN 4.1.2 Jellybean at the moment.
I had this issue as well. I just turned off touch sounds and all is well.
I should note that I have keyboard sounds enabled and I do not experience the random clicking noise.
It seems to be isolated to the enabling of touch sounds, whether on vibrate or any audible volume.

Power Management
Ok... I think this is correct,
The audio chip like most other IC's are entering power saving mode milliseconds after you hear any audio so the small click is the powering up and down of the audio hardware... Many phones do this and many people don't notice it.
It's quite normal but if you have very good hearing it might bother some more then others.

It seems like a touch sound issue.
Make sure you've got touch sounds turned off by going:

I requested an RMA for my device and the new received device has the same problem, the buzzing/interferences in the earpiece. I'm thinking about requesting another RMA but I want to be sure that there is someone who doesn't have this problem or I will wait until new devices without this are manufactured.
Mine doesn't buzz, and was ordered on the 27th. My hearing is good too, so I'd notice it

You must try to put against your ear. It is tiny buzz only when screen on . Mine I can hear it on locked screen. But it gone if I turn off screen

Nope. No buzz here, no matter how close I hold it to my ear.
Ordered on the 4th.
So do you normally operate your phone next to your ear when not in call?
I know some are worse than others. If it is barely inaudible I wouldn't worry about it
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Everyone realizes that as people age they lose the ability to hear certain frequencies right? So the people that cant hear it, maybe you just cant hear that frequency anymore. Hearing higher frequencies has nothing to do with "good" hearing either.
Then again, maybe they really don't have the buzzing noise. Just something to throw out there.

Mine is barely audible, but can't help believe that constant buzzing is causing battery drain. That sound energy must be powered from somewhere.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Mines has a slight buzz when phone screen is off, on etc.Very minimal
During phone calls, I barely hear it, phone calls are clear so I'm just going to keep it the way it is. It's dealable and doesn't bother me.
Pretty sure the buzz doesn't cause a drain. I have amazing battery life as it is atm.
I had the same issue and got a RMA. My second one has the same buzzing earpiece only when I hold it to my ear in a silent room. Is this normal because I already replaced it once. I don't here anything in calls.

Mine does not. If It did I would return it.
I have had multiple peeps listen to it just to ensure.
I reckon most people have it but don't hear it. Go to a dead silent room and turn your phone on, listen very carefully and there's probably a faint buzz. As you can tell, this is what I experience, but damn you'd have to be super picky to RMA for that. If you're hearing it semi-clearly in calls then that's another thing!

I've heard a lot about a buzzing noise coming from the earpiece, but whenever i plug in my headphones it makes a really annoying buzzing noise. Is it like a actual buzzzzzzzz sound or a rapid click click click sound? If it's actually a click noise, it is the proximity sensor, and you have some other app constantly running it. If it's a buzz, are you running a custom kernel? Do you usually crank up the volume? Have you messed with headset gain?
I have the same problem. not rooted
and its not buzzing.its more like rapid clicking, but I don't think I have any apps that use the proximity sensor. idk what to do fam

What the f has the kernel to do with this buzzing noise? This is one of the stupidest suggestions I read in my entire life.
The noise is hardware related. You can't fix it with software.
Guys, you have to accept that the Nexus 4 ist a cheap built smartphone with a LOT of problems, and I am not talking about the bad camera or the bad display in general.
I am talking about the huge and small bugs, for example.:
- noise in earspeaker
- buzzing noise with headphones
- heat-problems (YES, the N4 actually HAS heat-problems)
- Sleep of Death (LED and sound is working, but screen is black -> restart with Power+Volume)
- not-responsive screen when unlocking/not able to answer a call because of this
- dark line on the left side of the screen (especially on grey backgrounds)
- (maybe I am the only one with this problem, but this happens very often) when I am trying to unlock the ring, the status-bar slides down
- WiFi and GPS problems
- and more
Sure, the N4 was really cheap in its price and the problems testify that this phone is cheap.
The parts they used are cheap (e.g. DA-converters, display (don't tell me that it is possible to adjust the screen colors), speakers, cameras, microphone etc.). Maybe also the engineers who built the N4 were cheap.
Before I bought the N4 I had a Nexus S. It was WAY better than the N4 in many points.
I always recommended the Nexus line to my family and friends. But after using the N4 for long enough I will never recommend it again.
It's a piece of crap with a well-meant OS and causes headaches.
Hi,
I've had my S4 for about 3 days now and today all of a sudden the rear speaker has stopped working. No sound comes out of it at all, including notifications, screen lock sounds, touch sounds and any other sound. I have restarted multiple times but there is still no sound. If I plug in some headphones then I can hear the sound through them, so the problem seems to be related just to the main speaker.
Please help me

I wouldn't say a lot, but I do use them for an hour or two every night before I go to bed. I used them briefly for about 10 minutes earlier today but the speaker randomly stopped working a few hours after that.
I think I even heard when the speaker malfunctioned because as I touched the screen the touch sound cut out about half way through, though I thought nothing of it. Only now do I realize that there hasn't been any sound out the speaker since then.
Oh because i had that problem lots of times but its because i had headphones in while i switched the phones off or if it went dead while they were plugged in. Then when i restart the phone without them plugged in the phone still thinks there connected when there not so how i fixed it is that i plugged them in and out really fast. Its worth a try but i doubt it will work in your case

Well nothing I tried worked, so I'm guessing it was a hardware malfunction (my guess is that the speaker blew somehow).
I went back to the store today and they gave me a new S4 with no hassle. Just a little disappointed that I spent all weekend setting it up and customising it and now I have to do it all again.
Heres hoping this one lasts more than 4 days lol.
