Sideloading 4.3 help - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
So I am having trouble completing my 4.3 sideload update. My phone is connected to adb and everything is in the same path. I have attached a picture of what happens when I type the command. El daddy was helping me yesterday but we have not found a solid solution to this. Any help would be great!

Have you put it into sideload mode in recovery?

try on windows 7 or 8 ? win8 nex4 adb drivers are PITA to install!
http://hippowise.com/how-to-install-adb-drivers-for-the-nexus-4-on-windows-8/

Kill and restart u your adb server

My drivers are fine and I did the kill restart thing like 5 times

Tried everything today, still the same cannot read 'sideload' command. I am starting to think someone like Franco needs to figure this out lol.

I had the same problem. I used the sideload method in wugfresh toolkit instead. Its pretty much the same process. Do that instead. You'll have to rename the ota to "update.zip"...and when it confirms the file ...it'll then say "are you sure you want to sideload the "update.zip.zip" file....just say yes.

Try using the latest version of platform tools (contains adb and fastboot). There is a link available in my signature.

So after randomly trying the framework trick again, I managed to get the OTA!! I'm relieved I don't have to worry about this stupid adb stuff now.

[Q] HELP!! I wiped my whole N7 in recovery.

Hi all!!
I have a huge problem i think.
Yesterday is was rooting my device, and i was about to start flashing a custom rom.
What happened is that in the proces of wiping dalvik cache etc. I by accident wiped the whole system!
So now if i want to reboot, recovery gives the error that there is no OS is installed. If i reboot my nexus 7 keeps hanging in the startup screen wich only displays Google...
It still can reboot in recovery or bootloader, but i cant figure out how to recover. I tried with 2 toolkits, but no succes! I made a nandroid backup but this doesnt work either.
Also i tried several solutions but none of them helped.
Does someone know how i can get my N7 to work again?? :crying:
Wugfresh's toolkit allows you to flash the stock image from the bootloader. Just make sure you check the box that states you cantvpower the device up.
Mskips toolkit, chose the option to flash Google image, it will download, and flash for you, if not your doing it wrong, push comes to shove your going o have to download a custom ROM and use adb to to push it on to your nexus 7 then fire up cwm and lash the rom, your nandroid will be gone unless you took it off/copied to a PC before you messed up.

I tried all those things named above with both toolkits..
When i try to flash to stock it keeps hanging at some point, or i get errors. What am i doing wrong?
I will try again what jordaanooo mentioned.. hope this time it will work.
If it doesn't work, does it help to post some screenshots with the error i get, or where it gets stuck??
Yeah, try it, make sure you state you cant boot it, and tell us what parts it stops/fails at
SMH dont use toolkits -_- so you're saying you "could" get into recovery? Why didnt you just adb push a rom
Code:
adb push name-of-rom.zip /data/media
Then flash that rom?

pretty simple. if you know how to use adb then you just need to just a ROM to apply. wether it be the stock or a custom. once you know what ROM, the easiest thing is to paste it into your adb folder (usually platform-tools) and just push it onto your sd card

I'm trying to flash to a stock rom at the moment with the wugfresh toolkit. it seems the process is stuck at the point where it is "sending 'system' to the device. it's "sending 'system'" for more than an hour now... is that ok?? or is there something going wrong?
the picture show's where it gets stucked
Fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-grouper3.34.img
Fastboot flash all nakasijroo3d.IMG w/e its called
Do you have cwm or twrp installed? If so you can mount the 7 like a mass storage device to your computer. This will give you access to the SD card where you can transfer a ROM from your computer to your tablet....I'm not sued where the setting is.....just go into your recovery and dig around....I think its under advanced...

Have you got the right drivers on your PC?
Edit: Somebody beat me to it.
I've had a folder on my desktop I've been using since I rooted my flyer back in March, and my windows sees it in the bootloader, but cmd prompt doesn't.
here's a screenshot. God I've done this crap a million times, adb works inside android, but in the bootloader it does nothing, I hate getting stumped on simple crap.

I think Windows "sees" the device as a different device when it's in Fastboot mode versus being in Recovery mode, vs. fully booted.
Try force installing the driver per these directions:

In device manager, is there a device with an unknown driver (warning sign)? when your N7 is connected to your PC?
I just downloaded wugs root tool kit, reinstalled drivers throught it, it worked completly...yet if I manually type commands I get nothing...ugh..
screw it I wanted to do it manually so I could try and keep my data, but so be it.
I am having the same issue. Google drivers installed while device was turned on. Adb works flawlessly as long as the device is fully booted. When the device reboots into recovery, windows sees it as a different device. Reinstalling the drivers while in recovery fails.

I dunno what the deal is. On my vivid kernels have to be flashed through fastboot because of htcs s on crap and it always works. Even stranger toolkits work fine but manually typing commands doesn't

In Recovery, wiped probably too much - no ROM

Like the title says.
I'm in recovery, I wiped it all (unfortunately even the ROM as zip I put on it) and now I don't have no ROM on it and no zip to flash a ROM.
Thought this was no problem, knowing from smartphone recoveries to mount sdcard and copying the file on it. But Nexus 7, well, has no sdcard.
What can I do?
As it is now, I don't have nothing on it and rebooting it wouldn't lead to anything useful.
I need help.
What can I do?
Thanks in advance.

If you have Android SDK installed, you can use adb push to push the zip file to your internal storage. Put the ROM zip file in your Android SDK - Platform Tools folder on your computer, reboot the N7 into Recovery (connected to computer of course!), open Command Prompt window and change directories to where ever you keep your Android SDK (for me, it's: cd sdk/platform-tools). Then type:
Code:
adb push <name of ROM zip file> /sdcard
Wait, and after about 20 - 60 seconds it'll complete, then you can flash the ROM. It'll be on the root of your internal sdcard (/sdcard).
Sounds difficult for a bloody rookie like me - is there really no easier way? Like transfering via recovery by just telling recovery to mound internal-sd so that it'll pop up on my pc? (know that from CWM and 4Ext on my smartphone)
Or could you explain the steps so that even the bloodiest rookie of them all could understand it properly :-/
aaaw **** -.-
by the way, device is still in recovery

TWRP as well. Just unlocked, rooted and flashed recovery and now I wanted to have a custom rom.
I tried to mount data and what else there was in "advanced" - my PC doesn't show me anything
Edit: not in advanced, it's the point "mount"
Restock and reroot. You can use Wugfresh toolkit for this. You just install the toolkit and if you can boot in bootloader mode you're saved. That's what I did and it solved my problem.

How'd you root/unlock, toolkit of some type?
Using the adb command mentioned is the only way that I know of to push a file to your N7. It's not as difficult to do as it sounds.

Yeah that would work, as long as you don't re-lock via fastboot. That's what probably wiped out your sdcard, was the fastboot unlock of your device, as it wipes your sdcard.

Is it important which current status I choose?
There are 2 to be chosen: Soft-Bricked/Bootloop and Device is on/Normal
If "Device is on" means, that it's turned on, then this'll be my choice, right?

Toolkits are probably the easiest way - and it was pretty easy - who could expect me to wipe the zip, I just moved to the storage before flashing it?...
Why does this file has to be hosted on goo.im?
Goo.im gives me roundabout 120kb/s...
It took a while for me also, but in the end everything worked well.

It will remain unlocked until/unless you run the fastboot command: fastboot oem lock
If you don't run this, it will remain unlocked.
Whoaaaa I could scream!
Now that I downloaded the right one and try to flash it through the toolkit, it tells me, that there's no adb to be found. He doesn't recognize the device in bootloader.
What should I do?
OH THANK GOD! Tried it via recovery, he found it and restarted into bootloader
First of all: thank you so much guys - I was really shocked, but it all worked out
One more question before I make the same mistake again. Where should I put the zip which I wanna flash? When I have it connected to the pc, it shows me a portable device where the folders of the internal storage are (like Alarms, Android, DCIM, Download etc pp) - that's where I put the ZIP before.
Shall I keep it there?
And another question: what should I wipe in order to get it done properly?
Edit: Figured it out - got me CWM, much more familiar with that one
but thanks again for all your help guys

[Q] BIG MISTAKE!! Wiped the OS, Please Help

I was trying to wipe everything from Nexus 4 because i sold it and was going to ship the phone. I did this in the recovery mode (Team Win) and i had cyanogenmod installed.
It turns out i also wiped off any backups and also the OS on the phone. Now the phone has no operating system on it and only boots into recovery mode. I can't even transfer any backups to the phone because for some reason the phone isn't recognised as a storage device on my PC anymore.
What should i do?? I need to install any type of OS before i ship the phone

Done this 2 weeks ago dont freak out. If u are a twrp user u can sideload the from into the device using adb. Make sure u have all the adb drivers on ur pc. Put the rom file into the folder where the adb files are. Now go to ur recovery/twrp advanced then choose sideload. Plug the phone into ur pc. Now go back to the folder whre adb is. Hold shift , right click and choose start open command wndow here. Now the black cmd box will appear type "adb devices" dont include the quotemarks. It should show device with serial and would say sideload at the right. This means ur phone is connected properly, then type adb sideload (nameofrom).zip and it pushes the file into ur phone it will be named sideload.zip. now reboot phone to recovery and flash awayyy. Sorry for the messy instructions

Fast boot requires installing android adb if I am not mistaken. It can get messy if OP doesn't already have it installed.

I don't seem to have any recovery any more any clue? I went to root without a computer and it can't find it can you tell me what I did wrong or should I just try nexus toolkit to root my device because I don't even think it is rooted. Or should I use cmd to root and put super user and custom recovery? If so do you know of a link.. I'm sorry but I appreciate the help

I am not sure of a way to solve this problem you are having but I would recommend not using the toolkits for a little while, it seems to me like you have a bit to learn about ADB and rooting etc. And you need that to fix any problems you get into. The toolkits should be a shortcut for things you already know how to do, not to replace learning
