My friend's been using my Nexus one since I've been playing with the new iPhone...
He told me this morning, while it was on the charger, he was sending a text when the phone powered off. Hasn't powered on since...
I tried removing the battery and re-inserting, removing the battery plugging it into the wall and putting the battery in... tried holding trackball + power to turn on... nothing...
Now it just sits here with the orange charging light.... if on the wall adapter without battery it blinks between green/orange...
Any ideas how to bring it back to life? I can't call HTC because I did a DIY digitizer replacement...
sounds like he broked somethinger.
I'm hoping not... light turned green showing battery is charged but still no luck...
I hope I'm not out of an expensive phone haha
Maybe he dropped the phone and the dispkay rattled and got partially unhooked.

I'd disassemble and check all connections. Your DIY job could easily have left loose connections which your friend could have caused to come free.
Don't know if this will help you, but my power button is broke, so I can only cut the phone on if I insert the usb cable, wait for the light to come on, pull the battery, and as soon as the light goes out put the battery back into the phone, and it will cut on after a second or two.
LTL, but I have an issue now and search isn't helping.
So, I have had my AT for about 3 weeks. No problems. Forgot to charge it overnight, no big deal. Charged it for several hours and then turned it on. Nothing. The screen lights up, but there is nothing on it. Ok, says I, I restart it. Nada. I did the hard restart (10 seconds holding the power button, 2 seconds off, 10 seconds holding it again) and still nothing. Then I noticed it made noise if I touched something that makes noise. I plug in an HDMI, and low and behold, the tablet is working fine, the screen just isn't. Now, keep in mind that the backlight is on, the screen just doesn't display anything. Any ideas?

If you never dropped it, then the ribbon cable connecting the screen to the motherboard probably got loose and isn't making a proper connection. Your choice is to RMA or try taking it apart yourself and re-connecting the ribbon cable.
I have exactly the same issue. I wish i can tear apart my transformer, but i don't know how.

There have been posts with pictures detailing the tear down steps people did to take it apart, but it can't be said for certain that the ribbon got loosen. The screen could've very well just died. I know for a fact that some LED powered screens draws power for the LED backlight from the same ribbon cable, if the Transformer's IPS screen does the same then the screen must've died cause the back light is still on indicating the ribbon cable is still in place.

Thanks I might just do that. It is case-kept and it was inside a computer bag, so even if it was dropped (I didn't, but I have a dog/cat/wife who might have bumped it ) it should have been fairly protected. I am still within my return/replacement window with Amazon, but they can only refund me due to lack of stock
I was also thinking that maybe it thinks an HDMI cable is still attached and won't put the tablet display on? I have never hooked up an HDMI cable up until this issue arose so I am unsure what my AT's screen would do when I plug an HDMI in. Does the screen turn off? Does the backlight stay on?
I don't think thats the issue...before my screen totally died, it discolored for some time...then i kinda shook my AT quite strongly, then the screen totally died. I think it is the ribbon issue.

I think a tear-down thread has pics of the display connections, if there's a separate backlight power cable then yah, ribbon is loose.
So, after a minor teardown, I ensured all wires were re-seated, not just what I think was the power and display cables. Still nothing So, since I was still in the window of return/replacement with Amazon, I did that. But, as it is abundantly clear, the Transformer is sporadically in stock at best, I couldn't get a replacement, only a refund. Also, since I need a tablet by Tuesday at the latest, I am now the reluctant owner of a Samsung Tab. I am going to miss my microsd slot, my IPS screen, and my extra $100 bucks
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
FYI I had a similar issue after accidentally bumping and dropping my transformer about 1 foot onto my mattress. Turned it on and backlight was on but no visual. Heard email notifications etc suggesting it was working. I haven't been able to get hdmi out working yet so didn't get to confirm that.
Amazon bought, but returned it to Asus service centre in Sydney. Got it back today with repair report stating "Reconnected LVDS cable". Presumably if the repairers knew you had disassembled it yourself and attempted to fix it they would say your warranty is void, would that be correct?
So I have a QI wireless charger I got on amazon. It works perfect. Also use it with nexus 7. Today I noticed when my phone was on the charger, something caught my eye and my phone was shuffling through apps, opening Google now, getting driving directions and such by itself. As if someone was using the phone. Every time I put it on the charger this happens now all of a sudden. Its kinda comical. I laugh and watch what all it does each time. Any idea what could being causing this to happen when placed on the wireless charger?
Your phone is being haunted.
It could be an issue related to overheating. Was your phone got to touch when this happens ?

No, not more than normal using the wireless charging. It only does it when I place it on the charging pad. Its almost instant. As soon as I take it off, it stops. I don't see how the wireless charging could be causing it to perform task on its own. I'm thinking it is haunted.

This happened to me today
I had the same thing happen to me today while using a Nokia qi charger. My phone just started registering random screen presses, which resulted in the device launching my music player and starting to play a song. Just happened the one time, though. Haven't been able to replicate it.
Yeah i've seen it twice before with the orb. I think it has to do with static electricity.
are butesQ
Same thing - I got a phone and a Qi charger from Nokia. All happens while the phone is on the charger
But.... I don't see how heat can produce text that makes sense. Text that has nothing to do with me or my apps. More details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45560693
thats crazy lol...
The only way to keep it from performing random task, is to lock the screen before placing it on the charger. The screen will turn on and off but since its locked, it won't actually perform various task.

static electricity and capacitative touch screens
I have been wondering about this kind of problem, and research is pointing to an electrical interference with the digitizer.
A lot of users have posted that the phantom touches are happening on a localized strip or area of the screen. You can view this as it occurs by enabling "view touches" in developer settings; of course, some report issues so extreme (usually because the phantom touches are appearing across the soft buttons at the bottom of the screen) some might have a considerably harder time accessing this option.
I have noticed that I am able to replicate this issue immediately after charging - however, it is occurring after a wired charge, and only in the last week (I bought an N4 a over a month ago sealed NIB/HW vers.: rev_11). Because the connection between Synaptics digitizer ribbon and main board is solid, and because the touches only appear at the microUSB/charger I/O end of the device, I am left wondering if there is a contact/shielding issue going on, or if it is some other problem allowing static to build up and discharge through the digi.
More research is needed, including reviewing bug reports and logcats. What other diagnostics could be run to get more information on the electrical status of various components to help track the issue? Have any other E960 users experienced a phantom touch issue? How many have seen (maybe) a correlation between charging and the weird screen/digitizer events?
results of testing
attempted fix 1: re-locked the bootloader, then OEM unlocked, affecting a FULL WIPE of the device. RUUed from occam stock (7-zip, fastbooted everything from bootloader to radio by-the-book), beginning with old JB and then up to 4.3. the problem "quieted down" for a full five days, and then flared right back up.
attempted fix 2: pulled the phone apart, disconnected battery. cleaned the digitizer connections with 90% Isopropyl. applied a tinfoil ground, first to the metal chassis (which honestly made my armhair stand up a bit when it turned on), and then to the grounding/shielding covering the NFC pcb. the problem "quited down" for 2 days, then flared right back up.
attempted fix 3: called LG. said, "this phone's f*$#ed; here's the ESN." LG guy tells me the screen's already been replaced on this handset. it was a refurb, "but it weren't our guys what applied the new screen assembly that's giving you all the bollocks" - it was the carrier, and that warranty just went out of date yesterday. THERE IS OIL FROM SOME FINGERS making dodgy contact between the digitizer in the assembly and the chassis, and this results in RADIO INTERFERENCE THAT FLARES UP the phantom touches when there's a perfect storm of COLD (static!), VOLTAGE IRREGULARITIES (mains/cables/municipality!), and USAGE (lots of cache!)
attempted fix 4: can anyone recommend a trustworthy online vendor for a properly grounded screen assembly? I'm going to finish the teardown and replace the full assembly, and when that doesn't work out, I'm going to throw this glass static machine on the ground.
has anyone else been doing testing/have any positive results that stick longer than a business week?
screen going berserk when placed on qi charger
I have had this same issue yesterday, but only on one of my phones.
I have an E-Ceros One (Chinese MTK Octacore phone, twin/clone Ulefone U5) and my old (now my wife's) SG Note 1 (GT n7000).
Bought a qi receiver from eBay for each phone that plugs into micro usb port of the phone and receiver pad lies inside between battery and back case, and a cheap qi charger pad.
Put the receiver in the Note, chuck it on the charger & starts charging - no problems! (other than it does get a little warm when charging)
Put the other receiver in my E-Ceros One, lay it on the charger, starts charging but the screen goes berserk - definitely looks like the electromagnetic field is making the screen digitizer go crazy.
I have sort of found workaround/s though:
- either turn the phone off first and put it on the qi charger, OR
- the qi charger I have is rectangular, and if I sit the phone across the width of the charger, i.e. so the top and bottom of phone are sitting over the sides of the charger with nothing underneath, it starts charging and screen doesn't go crazy. If I wait ~30 secs I can then turn the phone so it sits along the length of the charger and screen doesn't go crazy - I'm thinking the electromagnetic field "settles" after charging for a few moments.
So yes, it's weird
I replaced the screen and digitizer but when I tried to power up, nothing happens. I thought it was a low battery issue so I left it charge overnight. Still nothing. I put this battery into another Nexus 7 to see if it is a battery problem. That Nexus booted up and shows the battery at 100%. So the battery did charge as it should. I tried putting the battery from the second Nexus into the first Nexus and It does nothing. I have checked all of my connections several times and everything seems to be fine. It did power up before I replaced the screen and digitizer.Any ideas?

This might be a hike but try using the old digitizer. It's very possible you have a bad digitizer since the battery charged full.
I tossed the old screen and digitizer already.
Its possible it has turned on but the screen isn't working try plugging into a computer and see if it recognises anything

OK if you have two nexus try swapping the motherboard over try not to bend the springs on the mb for the circuits on the back they are made of phosphor bronze and break easily

That's going to be my week-end project. The "good" N7 is one I use every day.
One thing I would like to add. When I was charging the battery, I did not have the back cover on completely and I could faintly a voice saying "alert". When I snapped the cover back on I could no longer hear it and it charged. Does that "alert" mean anything?

I've never heard of that before. The nexus should function without the back although WiFi NFC and Bluetooth won't work as the antenna's are attached to the back

I did get my laptop to recognize the N7.
I got a new LCD flex cable and still nothing.
I put the new S/D into my working N7 and all I get is a screen that is half black on left side and half on right side looks like the backlight is on and nothing else. So is the S/D defective?

Sounds like the screen/digitizer is defective. Return it for a refund or exchange.

Ok so i bought a second nexus 6p from ebay , it was advertised as a new sealed in box device
when i got it it was immediately obvious something was wrong ,the packaging was hard plastic not the embossed cardboard packaging with the "P" stamped in it.
There was some glue on the battery cover and when i weighed the phone it weighed less than my original 6p.
I immediately proceeded to start a return with ebay
but i used the phone for a bit and it seemed to be working ok so i was thinking of just keeping it and asking for a discount but then a few weeks later i was driving and the phone slipped out of my coat pocket and slid in between the drivers seat and the center console.
The phone only fell like all of 6 inches had a TPU case on it ,i was listening to music and it was connected to the radio via bluetooth at the time.
As soon as the phone fell the music stopped ,i picked it up from between the seat and saw that it was off , i tried several times to power it on but it was completely unresponsive no matter how long i held down the power button for , the phone was just charged to 75% before i got in the car and this happened bout 5 minutes into my drive.
When i got home i plugged the phone into the charger and i noticed that upon connecting it to power it immediately showed the google logo and started to boot , but then it goes into bootloop.
If i leave it plugged in it just keeps on looping , as soon as i unplug it it goes off, black screen and i can not get it to do anything.
I never press the power button when i plug it in to the charger and it starts to boot automatically.
I never see the battery charging icon screen at all when i plug it in.
I got refunded for the phone and didn't have to send the device back.
So i am wondering if i should take it to ifixit and have them replace the battery but i am not sure what is causing this issue.
Could it be that the internal battery cable came disconnected when the phone fell(all of 6 inches)
would an internally disconnected battery cable cause this behavior ,( that is my theory anyways since the phone does not loop or do anything at all when not plugged in and when it is plugged in i see no battery charging screen) .
I am guessing that they did a ****ty job refurbishing this phone and cheaped out and used a smaller battery(hence the lighter weight discrepancy) , not only in capacity but also in dimensions and that they did not glue it in good so that when the phone fell the battery slid and shifted inside the phone and came disconnected from the cable internally.
This is only my guess and i do not want to spend $100 to find out if it is correct or not and pay ifixit to change the battery only to find out the phone is bootlooped.
So i am hoping someone here has some insight and can confirm what is going on .
Maybe someone who has changed these batteries before and who has tried connecting the phone to USB while the battery was removed?
