Dead Nexus One after power-off? - Nexus One General

My friend's been using my Nexus one since I've been playing with the new iPhone...
He told me this morning, while it was on the charger, he was sending a text when the phone powered off. Hasn't powered on since...
I tried removing the battery and re-inserting, removing the battery plugging it into the wall and putting the battery in... tried holding trackball + power to turn on... nothing...
Now it just sits here with the orange charging light.... if on the wall adapter without battery it blinks between green/orange...
Any ideas how to bring it back to life? I can't call HTC because I did a DIY digitizer replacement...

sounds like he broked somethinger.

I'm hoping not... light turned green showing battery is charged but still no luck...
I hope I'm not out of an expensive phone haha

Maybe he dropped the phone and the dispkay rattled and got partially unhooked.

I'd disassemble and check all connections. Your DIY job could easily have left loose connections which your friend could have caused to come free.

Don't know if this will help you, but my power button is broke, so I can only cut the phone on if I insert the usb cable, wait for the light to come on, pull the battery, and as soon as the light goes out put the battery back into the phone, and it will cut on after a second or two.

My Hermes does not power on :(

SITUATION
My Cingular 8500 does not power on. I have tried connecting it to wall charger as well as USB cable. The red or the orange light also does not come on. I tried all resets also but nothing worked.
BACKGROUND
a. My phone suddenly went off when I was opening the sliding keyboard. It had a decent (60%) charge at that time. After this it refuses to come on.
b. Only addition to the phone in the last 3 months has been a 2GB MicroSd Card. I inserted this card 4 days back and it was working fine.
c. The device is around 6 months old (but its unlocked, running WM6 and does not have any warranty)
d. I have been using the original wall charger to charge this phone regularly.
HELP REQUIRED
1. Is there a way to check if the problem is with the battery or with the phone? I do not have a spare battery.
2. Should any light come on if I connect the phone to charger without the battery inserted in it?
Thanks!
Try this:
1.) Remove battery
2.) Connect Hermes to charger or USB
3.) Insert the battery while Hermes is connected to charger
4.) Red light should turn Amber
5.) Soft Reset
i have the same situation going on ... except with mine the screen faded out...it came back on once...and faded out again and will not turn back on.. when i put it on the charger it was a red light.. and will not turn on or soft reset, or enter bootloader or hard reset. .. in addition i tried the method above and nothing has worked.... any other suggestions...my phone was working fine when this happened out of nowhere... i dont have insurance either i bought the phone from someone off of craigslist..help is greatly appreciated
I am having the exact same problem, I had about 30% charge, then it just shut off, and now will not come back on under its own power or via USB nor charger. I tried connecting the charger then inserting the battery, but I do not get any indicator lights at all.
I was running WM6, and the most recent thing installed was the pointUI home screen replacement app.
has anyone experienced this before?

It wont power on threw charger without a "good" battery plugged in.
Sounds like u might have a bad battery. Happend to a friend of mine "different phone" just go to a local Radioshack If they have your type of battery and have one in stock they will most likely let you try one on your phone. If not just go to ATT wireless store and see if they have one you can try and buy.

Dear demo23019, I am not sure if I understand the above correctly. Should the Power LED light up "red" when battery is not inserted?
Once I connect the phone to charger (wall or USB), without the battery inserted in it, no red light comes on.
Does this mean that there is some problem with the phone hardware?

Yea the power LED should light up red with out a battery plugged in. Check the usb plug on the bottom of your phone, make sure the middle piece inside is still there and didnt break off.

Oops. My phone's power LED does not light up when I connect it to the charger without the battery inserted in it.
I have checked the following :
a. usb plug is fine (I checked it by plugging it into the Y cable for the USB charger. The LED on the Y cable lights up when I connect the USB plug into it
b. The middle piece inside the socket at the bottom of the phone is still there and shows no signs of damage.
c. The wall charger is also working fine.
Does this conclude that the phone has a hardware fault and this is not linked to the battery being dead?
Similar Problems
I just had the same problem. I had it happen to my Att Tilt and then to my cingular 8525. You should check out this thread and maybe post your info there too, it would be nice to see everybody post in the same thread so we can figure out what's going on.

yh
yh i got the same problem, i touched the power button so it wld go into standby, and it then refused to turn back on, even when i soft resetted it. Plugged it into the wall charger without the battery and there is no red power light coming on.
I've got a MDA Vario II and though im gettin a replacement, it kinda sucks as it seems im gna lose all my data
can we try to determine in more detail what people installed before they experienced this?
I just pulled it apart, and cleaned the inside to no avail, nothing seems to be awry, atleast not to my untrained eye, however it did get me thinking.
I listen to music on my tytn all the time, and over time the usb connector has become quite loose, frequently losing connections over activesync and music comes and goes from both lef and right. if the USB connector is shot, then when I plug it in it won't register that there is power, nor will it have the power to light up the red light indicating there is no battery. also, if the usb link is shot, then the phone wasn't charging so my battery is likely dead.
now to test this out I need to have a verified 100% charged battery.
I currently have the same problem. It will not charge via wall/usb. It flashes red once and that's it. Without the battery and plugged in, I get a solid red light. I tried plugging it into the wall charger without a battery and then putting my battery back in. The red light just turns off. That's it. I can get an active sync connection with a dim white screen, but I do not have enough juice to try flashing a new rom. If anyone has issues like these, are you also able to get an activesync connection?
TIA
EDIT: Is it possible to bypass the low battery protection when flashing a rom? My battery is somewhere around 40% so it would be safe.
Update:
Okay, I purchased a new oem battery and a battery charging dock. This way I can charge the battery without the phone before I attempt to flash a new rom.
I still would appreciate it if anyone who has seen these symptoms (white screen BUT with lots of vibrating / no charging / no bootloader) could give me a few pointers. I've exhausted the Wiki and so far it seems my only option to save the phone is to flash a new rom. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to give me some advice.

HTC HD2 Is not turning on, only turns on sometimes whats wrong? need help extremely!

Ok i got an extremely bad problem
i brought a hd2 from ebay with a fault, which was the person said he dropped the phone and the screen cracked then he replaced it with new screen and digitizer, but he said after he did that the phone only starts up sometimes, anyway i won the bid and when i recieved it i put the charger in and it turned on by itself and was stuck ar htc screen i took the charger out and the phone went off, so i put the charger back in again and it didnt turn on this time, tookout battery and did reset and hard reset and still nothing? the phone doesnt have hardspl.
so i opened the phone up and look to see if anything was lose which it wasnt and i also manged to damage the volume flex cable and the bottom buttons flex!
so i left my phone overnight and in the morning i put the battery in and put it on charge and A RED LED LIGHT CAME ON!!!! which means it was charging so i thought if i press the reset button it come on, so i pressed the soft reset and nothing came on and the red light dissapeared and it doesnt come back again?
Can anybody help me whats wrong?
Since the previous owner has dropped the phone, anything could have went wrong.
First, check the battery pins on your phone, and make sure they are straight (not bent, not eve a little)
Hi I tryed that but it still don't work, also to follow up I put my htc in fridge for 5 mins and put in usb and orange light comes on so I left it for couple of hours and after it finished charging it virbrates and screen comes on but it just stays black so I took out battery and it didn't startup, so battery is fully charged and I. Put phone back in fridge and put usb back in and orange light came on again, so this time I pull out usb cable and the light is still on??? And I pull out battery and it goes off I don't know what's wrong???? Its driving me nuts!!!
Edit - ignore what I wrote above, okay I left phone in fridge and I put battery in and then I put in usb and orange led light comes on then the phone vibrates and the htc logo screen comes up but it is frozen there and I can't reset because I have no buttons because I broke the flex ribbon. I pull out battery and it turns off and it doesn't come back on so I put usb in and then battery and nothing but I can feel a tiny bit of vibration but not as strong as before. Its soo wierd the phone only powers when I leave it in fridge.
really need a solution fast
Please guys I really need a solution, don't leave me hanging. I was going to buy a new motherboard but I don't know whether its worth it because I font want to waste money.
I can't answer your question. But I know for fact that if the hd2 overheats monsterously the processor melts off it's spot or something and the phone starts to reboot at 25-30 Celsius degrees and that could explain cooling it down lets it boot. My suggestion is to sell the phone on Ebay as SLIGHTLY damaged Hahahah!
infact thats what i done i put it on ebay if anyone wants it let me, mint condition except boot failure I don't think it the processor because I can connect to usb and it comes as qualcomm data
The phone tries to turn on because I see the vibration motor turn once but nothing else happens?
facepalm.
....
Was there any need of facepalm makes you look like a retard. Don't do it please

Nexus one wont power back on after reassembly xpost from QA. Please advice.

Hey guys, my LCD broke, It was a AMOLED not SLCD, I bought this piece off ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/260900702599?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I put everything back for the second time now, first of all the device doesn't come on, but when I plug the AC power it shows charging light.
I'm pretty sure my old screen is AMOLED..
I made sure all the connectors where tight on the board. any help?
It wont power on, did I break something?
I'm pretty screwed guys, been at it for like 5 hours I'm done for tonight
Here is what I've conluded. I detached the digitizer from the lcd I made a mistake and removed the factory "tape"
Is and in the process the little power button came off.
So what are my chances now?
Can the digitizer be taped back to the lcd? or Do I need to get a new digitizer which includes an LCD? so as to preserve the factory tape?
As far as the power button goes, I'm not talking about the plastic bit, I'm talking about the actual button underneath. It seemed to be holding on my a little thread anything. Is that "thread" a connector or the button functions fine without it?
I put iit back and sealed the phone up, it seems to be pressing. But of course the phone wont still come on :/
Have you tried the "jump start" method for people with broken power buttons? ie, plug the phone into the wall with the battery out and insert the battery. It might take a few insertions for it to work.

this happened to me last weekend when i replaced my trackball. my power button gave out.
That cable is a major issue with our N1s. You can order a replacement on ebay (or other sites) for usually around $40. It is called the flex cable.
The jumpstart method should work assuming nothing else is screwed up. But it isn't an exact science. Usually if you have your charging cable plugged in, you pull out the battery and put it back in, the phone will vibrate after a few seconds and start booting. If it doesn't, pull the battery out and try again.

Phone possibly dead.

Hello,
Last week I was using my phone as usual, I put it on my desk for about 5 minutes and when I came back it had turned off. I tried putting it on charge but the orange led doesn't show any activity. The phone doesn't turn on and doesn't do anything. I tried booting it on recovery but that didn't do anything else. I also took off the battery and put it back several times.
Help!

try cleaning the battery contacts and also the usb contacts, i had mine where it wouldnt charge all night and died and it was just dust caught on the +5v pin of the usb connector.
There is lost of dust in the usb connector, you should try to clean it. The battery might be dead, you can try to buy another one but...
That didn't work. (does the led light turn on if there is no battery in the phone or it must have one inside?)
It does need to have one inside to lit the led
If you know someone with a DHD, you should try his battery. But your phone is probably dead... Fortunatelly, the GS3 will be announced soon !

[Q] NEXUS 4 WATER DAMAGED? PLease Help

Hello everyone,
I was going for a swim in the pool three days ago and have forgotten to put my Nexus 4 in my duffel bag. The phone was submerge along with my swimming short for over 30 seconds :crying:. I dried off the phone, opened it up to removed the battery, and dried it off with a hair blow dryer for five minutes continuously. Then I put my phone in a bowl of rice. Its been two days hoping that the moisture is gone, I plugged it to a wall charger and have gotten the "blinking red light of death". Next, I removed the battery and charge the phone with out it, giving me a boot loader screen with the green android and the Google logo. But putting the battery back and turning it on only giving me that annoying blinking red light. I hope all the phone component is still good. So at this stage can you guys tell me if the battery is dead and would purchasing a new battery resolve this issue? Any input to resolve this red blinking light would be helpful, thank you for reading.

I have charge twice and installed the battery back and still get the blinking red light. As you have done this before, how did you go about doing it? Was the battery suppose to be "hot" when its being charge? Did you soldered the charging cable "hot and neutral" to the battery positive (+) negative (-) as shown in step 7?

I'm not sure the battery was hot during the process #7..
I took some old phone charger, cut the two wires apart (the positive and negative), and just made them touch the relevant spots on the battery (no soldering was made).
Did you wait more than 15 minutes during this charging?

Thanks for your reply. I also used an old lg charge with the right amount of Voltage ouput. I think it was 5 Volt or something and just split the cable, made it touch the relevant spots and used it electrical tape to secure the the charging charging cable making sure that the wire made contact with the positive and negative spot. Im not sure which cable was positive or negative, so I had to swap cable around and recharge every 15 minutes trial. I know my connection looks messy but thats the best i could do to make sure the make contact at the charging point on the battery. Is this how you do it? lol

Basically it seems fine.
There are two more things I recommend trying:
1. Try charging it for 30 minutes.
2. When plugging the battery back, just plug it, and don't screw the two screws of the battery.
Try these two things - and keep updating if the red light still shows

I have tried charging twice with 30 minutes cycle on each attempt, and have installed the battery back to the phone without the screw of the battery. I tried turning the phone on by holding down the power button for 10 seconds, but there was no Google logo splash screen. The same thing happen on my second attempt, no Google or boot-loader screen. I plugged in the wall charger and let it sit for over two hour and still cant turn it on, only the blinking red light. Removing the battery, charging directly from the cable, and holding the power volume button down at the same time gave me a boot-loader screen and Google logo but the phone immediately shut off. Any ideas what else I could try? Could you tell me about where my phone is damage base on the picture from my earlier post?
If you see Google's logo, your phone can run fine. The problem is probably the dead battery. Consider replacing it with a new one.

Thanks i just order a new one yesterday, just thought I give it a shot instead of buying a new phone. Lets hope its as you say. Thanks for your input.
Ordered a new battery, and it booted up fine. The important thing is that the blinking red light of death is gone so far.. thank goodness! Looks like the battery shorted out when my phone was submerge in the water. There is one small yellow streak line on the bottom right of the screen now but I can live with that. Glad nothing else is damage Thank you for all of your help! Cheers!
