Lagging after a few opened apps. KT Kernel and Phoenix Rom - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey friends.
Im running the latest kt kernel and phoenix rom woth ktoons suggested kernel settings. Everything is running great and the battery life is outstanding. I did a full wipe before flashing.
Nevertheless, after about one hour of using the phone, opening apps etc everything becomes extremely sluggish and slow. It gets immediately better when i force close all running apps and use the clear memory function of the touchwiz taskmanager.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any tipps?
Thanks!

major lag (very annoying)

I love my galaxy s but have one annoying problem with it...
When I click on the home button, it takes about a second for the screen to turn on. This is extremely annoying as you can imagine. I expect the screen to turn on from standby immediately... When it is on charge it will turn on immediately.
This problem is very noticeable... is anyone else experiencing this?
Are you running stock rom? The Samsung 2.1 and 2.2 are notoriously laggy. Get lagfix or flash a custom rom and your system will zip along

i'm on a custom rom and i've got the same problem...
I found darkys really sped my phone up that runs voodoo lagfix. Currently running CyanogenMod 7 which is still beta but I've been running it for a week with few probs (just dont install the 0312 version it unmounts your SD cards) the 0311 nightly with the bilboa kernel of the same date is good, flashed the 0317 CM7 today and that runs well.
Cm7 is super smooth and fast, try it
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i'm now on miui, the fact is that this is still beta, but with CM7 it should be working really smooth and fast... maybe it's because of some wrong kernel or something, i don't know, i've got his problem since i moved on to 2.3, even when returned to 2.2.1, the lag was still there :/
Really? I've never had that problem. When things go wrong for me I usually flash stock froyo with Odin then reflash custom and all is well. You using mambos MIUI? That's not even alpha is it?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
beta 4 right now when i moved back to stock froyo it was even more laggy than bofore, i flashed miui on this froyo and the problem is still there, of course it's not as laggy as on stock JPY but i hate the fact that it is there, no matter how small it was
Seriously mate I don't think that MIUI ROM is even close. They don't have any of the source so its a bodge. Try flashing stock then flashing back to Cm7 and I'm sure you'll be fixed
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Thanks for the replies guys.
I used to run Darky's all the way up to 9.3. I was happy but saw someone else's galaxy s which seemed to switch on immediately and I wanted that. So in attempt to fix it I went to the Ultimate rom... At the start it seemed to have done the trick, but now back to normal. Laggy standby turn on
yea, i know you're right, but when i first flashed miui i fell in love with that rom, for me it's perfect even with so many bugs i hope they'll deal with them soon and then i will have the most perfect of all perfect roms ever
hm that's weird for me, when i had ultimate everything was ok, but maybe if i would have it little bit longer it would be the same situation as you had
I've not tried ultimate. Darkys is solid but Cm7 feels right somehow, real gingerbread smooth and fast. I loved the MIUI music player on Darky s and would like it back on CM 7 but at present its stable enough for me. Preferred the stock Samsung camera app though. Wish we could get that in cm7
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
can't you take the camera.apk from stock and put it into the cm7? i'm not sure if it can be done but i think i might work
No I don't think cm7 will run any Samsung apps as its based on aosp and all the Samsung apps are tied to ****wiz. The devs could tell you more but I think that's why

What are you ****tin on about? MIUI is stable enough to use as an everyday rom. Most bugs are share across CM7 and MIUI as MIUI uses CM7 base. It's a closed source meaning they don't openly share the code with the public and non-MIUI developers.
So anyone know why this lag is happening? A certain app maybe? I've had it with Darkys and Ultimate...
Really? I might give it a try - but do the MIUI apps work? Last I checked they didn't. No point having MIUI without their lovely apps, is there?

Have you tried entering 3-button recovery mode to format the SD card, clear cache etc etc. Installed a particular program right after you flash? Have you changed the animation speed from slow to fast?

Most of their apps (at least in the rom) work.
You can just install on top of CM7 and then uninstall if unhappy. Just make a backup first
Will clear cache delete any of my files?

Well I will give the MIUI a go over the weekend (not risking it now need phone for work tomorrow) and see for myself. I've tried several ROM s and keep flashing back to CM 7. Just wish that we could get a new bilboa voodoo kernel for this 0317 build because it seems the best yet. I was taking photos today for work on the 0311 build and the camera was glitching like hell, downloaded the latest build and the camera was fine, there's progress right there

This has been answered several times in the last week. The search works. READ in the development section which ROMs updated recently with the new kernel like the stock one with Heimdall in the title, ACS v6, or grab ANY ROM there and flash Nubernel on it.
may the stockish build6..

I have been using [ROM]ACS ICS v6 (Now with moar gps! (and a theme)) [eh17]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295515
I have also been using the above ROM with the following kernel
[KERNEL][ROOT][GB][EH17] nubernel-2.6.35_v0.0.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326679
Before you apply the following theme, that installs lockscreenmods amongst other really cool items (reboot, recovery, etc), download the .zip to your machine and open the .zip and remove the /system/apps/phone.apk from it before flashing to your phone:
[THEME][EH17][ACS] ░▒▓█4.0 ICS█▓▒░ [lockmod]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320894
With everything above, I have a stable GB ROM with no reboots and no FC on phone calls ending. Battery life has been slightly better than SFR 1.2 and I use this as my daily driver with 0 issues (other than some lock screens showing erroneous battery details, but if that's the only thing so far then so be it).

Battery Issue!

My Xperia arc is working fine and my battery performance is OK. But, the battery percentage is always showing at 85%, in the status settings and in numerous apps I tried. Is there anyway to fix this issue so that I can monitor my battery percentage?
I've already tried hard reset. The phone is rooted so installing a custom ROM is an option if that would work?
Also, I have the fixtool for fixing the 0% battery issue, maybe that will work?
Any help will be much appreciated and I will give thanks to a response
Thanks in advance

Please read the FAQ on the sticky thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312398
[Q] I installed your stuff and my battery % is stuck. Can you help?
[A] Make sure you dont have a task killer messing with the apk fix - it must runs ALL THE TIME to monitor peripheral usage. Also, make sure you installed the correct version of kernel and apk fix - check app version and kernel version, to make sure you have latest version. Also, you need to be on correct stock firmware version before patching the kernel. If all versions are ok, try to stop the apk fix service and clean app data. If this cannot help, flash stock firmware (watch out to match the firmware version and kernel version), wipe the data, patch the kernel, and install app fix.

This looks very promising. We should have this thread be a central location to report tweaks that do/do not work all that well with our Epics.

In the GUI a lot of stuff didn't show up such as themes inverted Google apps etc.... But I can say which is funny I use the battery saving mod and when my phone turns back on its at 1% it was at 42% don't know how it dropped 41%.

So, I'm not sure of the culprit yet, but I enabled
all of the Init.d tweaks
all of the build.prop tweaks
Enabled some of the "features" (Enable hardware video acceleration, Disable Android logger, JIT for dalvik, disable usage-sending)
tweaked the Multitasking settings (Medium, Medium, 128, yes, yes)
Replaced GPS file
Enabled all Speed & Stability Settings
Now my device wont boot. Not sure if it matters, but I had flashed the new gapps in the same CWM session. If I figure out the offending tweak, I'll let you know. My boot posts with the splash screen and the loading bar, and never reaches my boot animation and hangs on a black screen with softkeys & keyboard lit (when slid out).
I'm running CM10 Nightly 1010 with NexusModemAIO patch & didhy's nitest kernel.
Installed and went through fine. But didn't install the Sony Walkman app or stay awake. Have tried installing the Walkman app through root explorer didn't work that way either. Is it just something to do with cm10? Running cm10 nightly 1014

Did you do a clean install including dalvic cache and factory reset? Also there are aosp custom android versions you can click and stock versions you can select. Did you download the HDPI zip in the op, one more thing I did a full wipe and installed cm10 along with gapps and nitestkernel with ns4g roam fix, and didn't reboot right when it was done but went to the main menu in cwm then rebooted. Maybe try that

Just did a few tweaks, WiFi , touchscreen, battery. The battery hasn't changed any was at 100% before and after I rebooted was at 35% and drained ridiculously. But WiFi seems better can go outside and stay connected a little better, and I guess I'm on stock 2012101014 haven't flashed any custom kernels or modems just flashed cm10 nightly and 7/26 black gapps. New on this phone lol, and had gotten Walkman to install from here but would constantly close no errors though. Also before flashing Aroma I wiped cache/ dalvik cache. Hope this helped
Edit: after clean install factory reset, caches wiped flashed ROM and gapps , tried same tweaks and apps the semc albums app was installed but no Walkman , if you could post flashable zip would appreciate , just like it better than Apollo music thanks

I tried touchwiz gb but not cm7 yet and I can confirm the wifi tweak doesn't work and another big big thing is wipe dalvic cache and all the cache. It may freeze at around 14% complete just do a battery pull and go again. I am currently running the latest Kang Jellybean and literally did all the tweaks and it has been running flawless and battery life is great along with data speeds so maybe try that guys. I didn't write these mods just found them in xda so we can all learn together. Thanks epic dudes I love this phone! Lol

My rom has random reboots after I used this, it sucks in my opinion, only think that might have improved is the wifi/data tweaks. Battery life is the same, i didn't even mess with ram or kernel, everything was running fine, I was dumb to install it in the first place, but I hope others have improved performance with it.

Note 3 n9005 Omega v21 Rom Battery Drain

Hello. Since I installed omega v19 rom and up until now that I use the latest v21 I have a huge battery drain from android os and android system. Here are some pics. I've tried to do everything I think that could help. I've closed location services - wi-fi - mobile data- I've installed the omega rom with full wipe and without any extra app installed. I've done a wipe data from the recovery. And still the problem doesnt go away. It's really annoying! In 9 hours without wifi and without even open the screen, I have 74% battery.... Until i write this topic with only wifi open and brightness to 20% the battery is 68%! Please help me. Thank you in advance!

I have had similar issues. [1].
At least in my case all NF4 based ROMs (including stock) drained the battery like crazy (~20+%/h when *idle*).
The problem was solved by installing the latest CM 11 nightly (CM11M8 has CPU governor issues that causes it run @2+ Ghz during idle).
Couple with some selective Google sync configuration, I'm currently averaging ~0.8%-1.5%/h when idle.

Thank you for you response my friend. Sorry although because I dont know what cm11nightly is. I suppose from this things you said that it is somekind of cpu adjuster for the phone when the screen is off or something like this. Sorry for the late reply.
ROM aside, I'd suggest you install some type of CPU monitoring application (E.g. BetterBattryStatus+) and see if your CPU is locked at maximum speed (>= 2Ghz). This might cause over-heating and random reboot.
I had the exact same problem. Changing from the omega kernel to stock kernel helped solve my problem
With stock kernel you have less battery drain but you still have.
