Hello all.
I was wondering if anyone could help me find an up to date rom for my wifes S4 that looks stock and has all the stock features. It really doesn't matter if there are extra features, but since its for my wife I want her to keep the features and experience she is used to. She'll kick my butt if she gets anything else, lol.
That's why I'm asking for help because every rom I see is either aosp or cm based or heavily modified looks wise.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mod Edit: Thread closed as its a Best ROM thread.

Excuse my ignorance, I am still new to the android world, as moving over from the iPhone. My question is obviously if I use the ROM which is based on TOUCHWIZ, I can still use "smartview" and the other fun but gimmicky features of the s4.... but when I go to an AOSP/AOKP ROM, I apparently lose this. Is there a way that I can get these features back as a mod with the AOSP roms? I have googled and searched, but haven't found anything definitive.
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction if this could be done?
Thanks
Can't be done (or close to impossible). Those features are built into the touch wiz frame work and are not directly transferable to an AOSP rom

Thanks for the answer... I know its gimmicky, but I'll stay on a touchwiz rom for now... thanks again...
I think b-dub's Google Edition rom is tw based, and he might try and port those features later, but as of now, there is nothing like that yet!

Hey all
I'm coming from the Amaze, and before that, the Nexus One and the G1. I like the camera app on my S4, and i haven't tried S-Voice yet. Outside of these features though, i'm not sure i care for the original stock rom. I saw a poll for what everyone thought was the best Rom for the i9500, i was wondering about opinions of the i9505 variant.
Looking for really good battery life, all the features of the stock camera (if not more) and better responsiveness than the stock rom. I figure i should stick with TW based roms for now until i find apps that can replace them. My main purpose in this phone was the ability to run mirrorlink to my car's stereo, so i can't loose that either.
So then, what is everyone's favorite TouchWiz based rom? Or, if you prefer, what rom has at the very least the same features as the stock rom for the camera? Is there something that equals s-voice? Can i still mirrorlink with that rom?
thanks all!

First off there is a whole separate section for t mobile variant discussions that will give you a lot more relevant information for the t mobile device.
Second, threads about what the best ROM are generally are not welcome on xda because it is an impossible question. Only you can decide what the best ROM is for you. What makes battery life great on my ROM might severely limit your ability to use it the way you prefer. Everything depends on your taste, and how you use the phone. The only way to decide what ROM is best is to start flashing them and testing.

I'm not a newb to xda. I didn't ask for a best, i asked for opinions of favorites. I feel there is a BIG difference there. Now, i did mention that i saw a poll for what people thought was the best rom for the non-T-Mo variant, but that only inspired this thread in part.
Hopefully i can get some real responses regarding what other people find as their favorite roms based on the criteria i'm looking for, or reasons why another rom is their favorite in general. I don't really have the time to sit and flash roms all day long anymore.
hi guys,
my samsung galaxy s2 has been giving me a lot of problems lately (signal issues and cracked screen). I couldn't afford the latest handset, so after reading up lots of reviews about google nexus 4, I bought it from ebay.
The phone is most definitely fast (Android 4.3), but many odd features to give you easy access are missing...I assume this is because it's a stock rom?
I want the theme/menus of the phone to look similar a samsung galaxy s2/s3/s4. Is there a way of doing this without flashing a totally new rom to it?
Thank you for your help
To get a full samsung experience such as in setting/laucher/etc to work you need to have samsung framework..which is a lot of work. You can try and search around the forum but I don't think anyone here bought the phone for samsung experience. The best you can do is apply touchwiz theme but that requires you to flash custom roms. For tw launcher you can try this here. Just search around and you'll definitely find something you can use.
Thank you for your quick reply arffrhn.
I don't want to flash a custom rom...at least not for a while. I think I might have described it wrong mate as I don't want touchwiz.
Let me start again....The samsung s2 that I have is running on a custom rom called neatrom....Have you heard of it? I really like it's style as it's very simple and looks cool with colours and dialpad.
But instead of putting on a custom rom, Is there a theme that I can use so that I can change the dialpad style/colour and menu looks etc?
You can try xposed framework and try out some themes. That's the best way to customize your phone without flashing any roms imo.
Try Paranoid Android or carbon custom rom; it comes with lots of tweaks and custom features.

Try a custom ROM and take your conclusions.
I've had a galaxy s2 and my Nexus 4 is better in so many ways
Hey guys. Do you think its about time we incorperated features like multi window and mabey even screen resizing into AOSP such as cyanogen? I know AOSP is built on pure android but would such features really weigh down the vanilla experience we seek in cyanogen. Just a question. I love cm12 however i always revert back to TW 5.0 only because of the availability of such features. And with xposed disabled for 5.0 users it seems we are a bit limited. Would an AOSP team ever consider adding such features or is something like that against what cyanogen stands for? Is it even possible to add those things to the build of cm? Its just me pondering and hoping some day we will see these conviences in CM. I would like to hear from our XDA community and see if you feel it is something good, bad, or your indifferent too. I did actually post this question in temaseks CM12 section but then thought to hear the voice of XDA. So please take a moment and let us know your thoughts.
That's why I'm on stock. CM just doesn't use all the bells and whistles of this phone!

I am kind of forced into a stock-like situation. Only because the newer 5.0 based n3 are mostly stock. But with the ability to clean and debloat they run a bit better. However i love aosp based roms. So i do bounce around. I would love to see temaseks cm12 use afew of the convient features of tw.
All the TW features are worth it except S named ones, you know, Smart this, Smart that, I have never used a single one of them, ever.
Not sure if this is the right area to post this but here goes! (mod please move if this is not.)
One of the primary features i wanted when i bought this phone was the use of touchwiz's Spen features being air command, and the ability to multitask with it. any way
straight to the point, I LOVEand i do mean LOVE cyanogenmod, i have since my samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket, which was, and still is a great phone(though very outdated)
i actually really like the CM12 android v 5.0.2 nightly rom i have installed now, but i miss being able to write things down, it seems like my s pen is completely useless, well
i guess what i'm looking for is a CM lookalike with the features that i enjoy the factory rom for, without the entire operating system being well over a gig.. >.>
Help me out, give me your opinions, let me check out different ones and give my opinions on them
if CM12 supported the Spen and it's features i'd primarily stick with it, so i guess my qualifications for
a new rom are : no bloat, custom rom/kernal i also need to be able to edit the radio as per the post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...ds-to-t2886059 :good:
They are all good ROMs. Its completely down to you which one you choose. What works well for someone else may not necessarily work well for you. You'll just have to flash and play around with a few ROMs until you find the one for you.
and that brings me back to the reason that i made the post in the first place i want OPINIONS. thank you.
