long messages - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

First Samsung phone. When I get a message that is broken into parts because of size, reading from the top of phone is backwards. The last part comes in first and the first part comes in last. Is this a Samsung thing and can it be changed?

My wife has this problem when she gets long messages from iPhone users. I don't receive long messages very often (must not have any long-winded friends), so I don't know if my phone does it.
I tested a message sent from my S4 to hers, it came through as one message, not broken up. I am researching it some more and will let you know what I come up with. It drives her nuts, too.

My girl has an iPhone and her messages do the same thing to mine

I've only had that happen on messages from iphones.

All I've got to test it with is an iPhone (friends and girl) and an s2 (lame friend) lol but it is annoying and I do like how the girls phone receives all mine as a whole so idk not enough to make anyone get rid of this beast I don't think anyways

I have it set that way and they still do it.

OK now I am totally confused as it does not take a lot. The messages from a droid on Verizon were coming in split and backward. Getting messages from an I-phone on AT&T and they are coming split but coming in right. This is backwards from what others are saying.

I think it has to do with the clock not only on the sending phone, but also the clock on the other networks. The phone should get the time from the network if it is set to. If it's not set to do so, that could be part of the problem. Maybe the way a message is time stamped on another network is different, or time can slightly vary from different networks. I don't know much about it. I found a lot of people with this problem, but no real solutions. I couldn't get it fixed, so guess I will just have to deal with it.

I see this problem a lot when getting texts from Verizon phones Android or iPhone. Never from At&t or Sprint.

Another message from Sprint.

Just had a message in my notification bar from Sprint.
Had the little yellow Sprint icon in the top left. I pull it down and it says "Sprint Update coming soon."
I'm running EC05 from the update.zip.
I clicked on the message and it brought me to a page that showed the Sprint ID stuff and said an update in addition to Sprint ID will be coming soon.
What could it be?

Sprint just signed a deal with google for google voice. It might have something to do with that.

I guess they just figured out nobody uses their voicemail b/c it blows goats. I think sprint may be getting a bit smarter, going with the current rather than paddling upstream and pissing off their loyal base.
This T-Mobile AT&T thing is a bit worrysome... but if Sprint starts partnering with Google. Well...
If they were really smart they'd be hiring dev's from sites like this and then they'd really be hip.
I received EB13 ota on day 1. Hoping to get similar results this time. Just got my phone back today from best buy. Had an incident where I went to take a picture an launched my phone about 10 ft across the bar. Gorilla glass is tough, not invincible. Phone also landed flat on the screen. Works great after the repair, though.

Thats weird. Usually they send a text to everyone if its something like this. I have yet to receive a text like that, anyways the merger was called off about a few months ago, and basically most people already know about it.
I got the same text about an hour ago. Also got a letter in the mail a couple weeks ago. Maybe they have Cedric the Entertainer working in the PR department..."Are you sure? Are you sure, sure?"

Yea i just got this. Its funny that if you follow the link and watch those videos of the iphones they're basically just saying that there 4g is faster than everyone elses 3g which is obvious. very stupid marketing

[Q] Forced roaming

I use roam control. One of the issues with samsung devices is when in "roam only", they only roam on the 800mhz frequency band.
I'm not sure why this is, and not sure if it's changed since the GS2 (which is what i'm on).
Anyone know if the S4 has this issue?
thanks
Not sure roam control is working yet.
I set it up and when im "roaming" it still shows I'm on sprints network. I get 3g when i force roam (i only got 1x on my e4gt). But like i said, its probably a function of not being compatible yet.

really hope this gets updated for the s4, was thinking of upgrading to this device tomorrow, and i use roam control to force roaming while i am at work.
Me too. But definitely watch your usage. Been a customer for 9 years. Got the boot letter today because of my roaming activities.
Roam Control doesn't seem to be working yet. I need it for when I'm at work also.
oohaylima, were you using the s4? Do you know how much and for how long you were going over the "limit" before you got the boot letter?
@ oohaylima, man that sucks, what were ur averages roaming?, did u have to pay an ETF?, and how many warning letters were u given?

They won't charge anything. They warn customer 2 to 3 times and then cancel your contract if the roaming persists. I've roamed about 60gb the last 2 billing cycles and haven't had any problems yet.

According to the letter they warned me last November about my usage.

Don't know the average, but with Sprint, anything over 300 MB while roaming is a big no no.
No ETF fee. They waive it. They give you a month to change services. That's very nice of b them.

Any updates on whether Roam Control is working on this phone?
I see the app hasn't been updated for a while, and I know the author doesn't respond quickly (or at all) to support emails, so figured I'd check with the forum.
I never could get it working right on my old phone, but I'm hoping I can still get some use out of this app.

About that offset Wi-Fi icon...

I don't mind now that I see the purpose of separation. I guess...
What would that purpose be? So they can have the AT&T logo in the bar as well?

on mine (Verizon version), there isn't really a gap, it just leaves the 4G icon, but the data arrows aren't
I think I see what OP is talking about, it separates the toggleable/changeable items from those that are permanent.
I don't know if that was intended or this is a bug and that is just coincidence, to me it almost looks like instead of hiding the 4g icon or w/e ATT just put a black square there so when on wifi the space for that 4g icon is still reserved.

If it was meant to be like that, then I see no reason why it would happen only when on wifi.

Well, that's just not true. Look at all the changes with the Xbox one. People were pissed and they made major changes.
The only way this is inevitable is if people take the attitude that there is no way to change it.

Wait, what? So I'm supposed to "not care" about it? I mean... I can live with it, and I'm certainly not returning my phone because of it... but I'd definitely rather not have it there. It's annoying. It's almost (highlight on "almost") like the virtual version of getting a stained device, would you not care about a stain ?
I too think it's the 4G icon becoming all black. I don't like it either.
Were lucky we can remove, adjust, flash and customize our phones , when I had my first cell phone back in 93 customizing it hahahahaha, not even in the same ball park, I had a better chance of flying to the moon. Yes we had carrier logos blastered all over our phones. If you don't like it take the frigging phone back and buy an iphone
Xbox one, well look at it at Microsoft's view point. Windows 8 is a total bust! The only item left that makes the big bucks is the Xbox, Xbox live , at this point if they planned on releasing the Xbox one with all the original requirements, people would flocked over to the ps4, leaving Microsoft as the new IBM, just my opinion

right. I was referencing at the "feeling" of it, not to any specific comment. that's why I didn't quote anyone. but if you ask me, then no, I would not care so much that I wouldn't buy the phone. As a matter of fact, I did not care so much. I knew about it before I got the MotoMaker card at the AT&T store.
I would have probable had second thoughts, had I known about the camera, though... but I think I would have still bought it.

If federal agents confiscate my S5, what would they be able to find?

Deleted SMS? Uninstalled messenger apps, would they be able to pull up that stuff?
They'd probably be able to get warrants for Facebook, Twitter, and other messenger apps. How long does VZW save SMS and MMS messages for?

If nothing else they'd be able to see what you can see on your vzw account info. Such as; sms numbers to and from, calls to and from, GPS pings if they had requested them which is likely if they have confiscated his phone. Literally vzw will give everything they have. These big companies always cooperate. The reality is you should never text, much less talk about sensitive information on your smartphone. While it may be secure from the average user it is not secure from the man.
To add; a friend lost his phone and vzw was able to restore to his contacts, literally ever number called and received, for the past 5+ years.
