Hey guys this is my first thread and this is an issue i've been having since i first got the device.
Well, mobile data is always connected and blue, however, sometimes when i'm doing something that requires internet, it takes a while to start actually working and showing the up and down arrows. This causes delayed notifications in apps like whatsapp.
Example:
I open a whatsapp conversation. What I should get is the "last seen" status of my contact, but this takes up two 5 seconds for the mobile data connection to actually kick in.
Is this a known issue with the nexus 4? are there any fixes someone might direct me to? It's not a deal breaker but it's a really annoying issue that I didn't have back when I was using the S3.
P.S: If it matters in anyway, I'm using CM 10.1.2 Stable and the latest Franco Kernel nightly.
Thanks for annoying who might give me some helpful tips or ways to fix this. :fingers-crossed:

try raising your voltage at 384mhz to 800mV or higher
try a different rom
try a different kernel
it could be an issue with that/those apps.

I'll try raising the voltage and report back if it's better
This issue has been happening to me on stock rom/kernel, cm 10.1.2 and cm kernel as well as P.A and P.A kernel.
Thanks for the tip

Hey man, I tried raising the voltages, but it didn't seem to help that much.
Is there any other way to fix or make this issue better?
It's a bit annoying that other phones on the same network get instantaneous mobile data.
Looking forward to more advice! :fingers-crossed:
hey guys, im suffering from this problem too, & don't know how to raise the Voltage or how to change the kernel or rom ?

Hi,
I was using CM10 by Tezet, but when I started reading the posts on MS2Ginger 4 Stable v2 thread by Danik, I wanted to give it a try and compare the performance.
But something is really annoying me: when I try to connect to my wifi at home (and at work), it connects, I start browsing and downloading apps but, after a few minutes, i can`t use internet anymore. The wifi says it's still connected, but I can't browse or use play (it says 'no data connection'). It is happening almost all the time (although sometimes I can hold the connection for longer periods).
Is someone else having the same problem? Is it possible for me to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
Hi. 2.3.6 Android has some problems with losing wifi connection if IP lease time in the router is set to infinity. Setting a shorter IP lease time is said to solve problems. I've never experienced it, since I've never user 2.3.6, but I've read about this issue. Hope it helps.

Hey,
I'm not sure about what you're saying. I've found "Client lease time" under DHCP Settings, is that it? Mine is set to 0 (which the router says it's 1 day). Should I set this to another lower value then? How many minutes?
Tks
Mine is set to 600 seconds. Hope it helps.

Thank you!! I'll try it here. But I'm having some other issues on MS2Ginger that I'm not liking. I'll probably stick to CM10...
Thanks again!
Exactly the same in my case, right now I'm using CM10. It's not so laggy after all, and almost everything's running well. Regards!
The problem while comparing this 2 great roms is that MS2Ginger4 v2 is using alternative I/O calc. ported from Driod2 which causing a huge slow downs (very often i had to remove battery), but allows you to recording in HD quality (what isn' t possible at CM10). The second thing is that CM10 have some features of ICS/JB and is nice for an eye (I wouldn' t to write all compare because u can sit, and read all thread with CM10 and MS2Ginger v2 and get some informations about how this or that rom is behaving)
Btw im so sorry for my english, so don' t judge me for it
Same for me. I am jumping from stock to cm10 then stock, miui v4, cm 10.1 and now Ms2g5 from danik. I am not sure where to stay cm 10.1 JB was very nice too, same with ny google nexus 7 tablet.

I've had this issue with lag on the Nexus 4 lockscreen for quite a while.
The problem is that occasionally when I go to the unlock the phone, I press the lock, but the lock will freeze. Sometimes I have to turn the screen off, and turn back on a couple of times before I can unlock the phone.
I've had this issue running CM10.1 and stock rooted android 4.2.2. I've tried doing a complete wipe and re-flashing everything.
Has anyone else had this issue? I've asked a couple of people I know who have Nexus 4's and none of them have had this problem.
Did I do something wrong, is this a common issue, or this an issue with my phone?

I also get this occasionally from time to time. I honestly have no clue what it could be, since the screen is completely dry as are my fingers when it happens. Its a minor bug so it doesn't bother me that much

I also sometimes get lag when I do manage to unlock, scrolling through my screens is very laggy for 5-10 seconds, then it is usually fine.
I have a problem with lockscreen lag on a phone with a quadcore CPU and 2 GB of RAM.
Flash a custom kernel. You'll be less likely to experience lag
Don't get any lockscreen lag on my stock Android.

The latest trinity kernel (125) has perfected the lockscreen lag, It definitely unlocks instantly for me.

Trying this out now. I especially liked how it told me my system was corrupted once it finished flashing...
First thing I've noticed is that the colour is a lot different. Do I need to play with any settings, or do I only need to have the kernel installed?
Also how often do updates come out?
Messing with the settings is totally up to you. It works great "right out of the box." I don't like the stock color settings, I use trickster mod to change them to rgb 255, 255, 255 and everything else at 0 except saturation and blacks all the way up. This kernel is underclocked to 1026mhz by default, I set it to stock clock speeds. It's also undervolted by default so if you are having stability problems, try bumping up the voltage on all steps by 25mv. Updates come out pretty often, prolly a few times a month.

The colours bothered me so I'm trying the latest franco nightly. It seems to be at the stock clock speed, no weird colours, and it makes the haptic feedback when unlocking feel more like the GNex.
I'm still having this issue with franco kernel. I've been looking around a bit and people seem to say this is related to auto brightness. I'm going to turn auto brightness off for a bit and see if it still happens.
Also, does anyone know if using a 3rd party app for auto brightness would make any difference?
Okay, turns out auto brightness wasn't the issue. Still getting lockscreen lag. Help please.
If I put 5 fingers on the screen (when the screen is off), then press the lock button, when the screen comes on it will be completely unresponsive, some of the time. I'm not always able to replicate this.
for me, some releases of Franco have lockscreen lag, some don`t, try flashing the M2 or other post r121 builds, they are all great performers and maybe you`ll get lucky with one.
if ur using paranoid android, then its a stability issue i guesa cause the same thing used to happen with me...... or else try franco kernel... or update franco kernel if ur using franco, cause an older version had the lockscreen bug, which is now fixed!!!

I'm running CM 10.1 and the latest version of franco's kernel.
I've tried using a rooted stock and I had the same issue with lag.
I'm going to try franco's milestone build, see if I still get issues.
Would increasing the minimum clock likely help at all?
I had this problem no matter what custom ROM or kernel I would use I would get this problem I got a replacement phone and don't have this issue anymore

I'm thinking this may have been the issue.
How does the replacement process work?
If I save a nandroid backup of my phone, can I just unlock it and restore from there?
Flash the reset kernel from _motley 's kernel thread, it replaces a lot of files that might of got changed via various other kernel flashes with stock ones.
the one that causes a lot of lock screen lag is the /system/lib/hw/power.msm8960.so file
N4_422_stock_kernel_and_components.zip

Can I just flash this with CWM? And then flash back to franco m2?
I actually just got an RMA for my phone, because of this issue and that the back glass panel is a little loose and makes creaking noises. When I send the phone back to google, if I follow all the steps here and lock the bootloader, it should be fine to send back to them?
Google's RMA process was amazing. Took me all of 10 minutes. They're shipping a new one in 3-5 days, and they pay for the return shipping of my old device. The replacement is brand-new, not a refurbished device. My dad's iPhone 4S had a bunch of issues and he would have to book an appointment at the Apple store, which happens to be an hour away, and they would only replace his device with a refurbished one.
This topic has been discussed a lot of times on internet but I am really concerned about fixing my phone as no matter what, if i am on 2G, 3G or WIFI I stop having notification after 15-20 minutes. In fact I tried PINGING my device and PING stops really after 15 minutes. Anyways, currently I am desperately waiting for 4.3 and there is just no NEWS of the RELEASE DATE whatsoever. But also I am not much into CUSTOM ROM or KERNELS but was wondering if I can only update the KERNEL version (i.e., FRANCO if any one suggest) and solve this issue. I want to be remain on STOCK ANDROID but is it possible to only upgrade the kernel ?
Also I would need tutorial for the quickest root and the safest kernel to follow and keep upgrading it all the time. Thank you.

The choices and threads are out there for you if this is truly bothering you. You can stay stock and flash a couple of files to test out if your issue is fixed. Rooting is not the end of the world and you can always go back. As for tools there are multiple stickied root methods just choose one. Also no guarantee 4.3 fixes the issue. I flashed a couple files from Development in the Wifi/Fix thread and my problems went away. May for you it may be the prima drivers but you wont know until you do it

I will be still waiting till 4.3 is released but just one thing I wanted to confirm when you said your problem was FIXED. Was it on both 3G / WiFi because this issue occurs on both interface.
Are there any other particular apps that still gets notification after everyone don't?

any APP has the same issue. I use the following and in everything it is the same frustrating issue.
whatsapp
Talk.to
Email (Even if the settings are on 1 hour INBOX CHECK, it never works until i manually do the sync)
These are the only apps I always expect to notify me INSTANTLY. Also it was the same in Google talk and any other IM apps.

Thanks but it also happens in 2G because 3G I can't use due to my work environment where I can't keep charging my phone and in 3G this phone battery drains quickly. Well, two more weeks ill wait for 4.3 and if Google is still fooling then I will go ahead with ROOT and some KERNEL experiments. Thanks a load.
I've been noticing this problem increase over the past few months. It started when I used navigation over longer trips like an hour. The phone would all of a sudden stop responding and then just restart. I noticed its really hot when this happens so I figure it's overheating. Recently it even happens on short trips.
I'm using triforce rom 3.1 which uses agat's kernel. I have not noticed any other restart or crashing issues aside from when I use navigation. I find it important to mention that this all occurs even if the phone is not plugged in or charging.
Has anyone else noticed something like this?
I thought about taking it to sprint since i have tep, but I figure they will either just tell me it's my fault since it's a custom rom or just offer to format the phone like they do with every other problem.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to find one that still works with my older version of the rom. If nothing else, I may just wait until I have a little more time and use a new or different rom all together and see if that makes a difference.

I just wanted to follow up and see if anyone had more suggestions or a specific kernel to try. I tried 3 different ones with the following results:
KT-SGS4-JB4.2-TW-SPR-02.20.2014 - No navigation reboots, started rebooting randomly otherwise
AGAT_GS4_v0.5.1 - Still reboots/overheats during navigation
AGAT_GS4_v0.5.2 - Still reboots/overheats during navigation
Stock. I've never had good luck on custom kernels going back to the S2 (the same devs as currently).
Really, my devices have always ran worse and with significant issues, including the one you are describing.
If that's not an option, play with the governor settings, remove any overclock, and try other ROMs.
Hi there, here is my problem.
I flashed Havoc V2 latest rom and i experience random reboots or shutdowns, including time reset. Problem is that i am away from PC for a few days and i can't try many things since i don't use an sd card, so full wipe is not an option right now.
Also, i noticed that time and date is reseting to rom's build date and not at a random one. Any ideas what is going wrong and how can i fix it will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Any chance of using OTG +USB stick?

That's not an option right now, but if i find a USB stick i'm gonna give it a try with a different rom.
I'm having the time reset prob when time is set to manual, in network mode seems ok, but reboots/shutdown are still happening.
I was thinking maybe its a modem issue since i never flashed one (maybe there is an updated version that i missed, phone was sitting powered off with an old rr version for a long time) or a kernel issue, but i didn't see any reports on the havoc thread.

It doesn't help you right now but I've tested several Q ROMs and I've found crDroid 6.9 the most stable one.
With Havoc and AOSP I had issues while lineage doesn't offer that many individuality.
Used RR 7 by mobspyguy myself before switching as it got any longer patches.
Gotta admit that mine is only a backup device and I don't use it longer then 5 hours.
If you used the latest firmware before switching to custom ROM there's no newer modem anyhow.
Thanks a lot for the info. I'm gonna flash another rom when i get the chance to see if the problem is rom related and see how it works.
Thanks again

the emmc is dying
you can try this https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/100-fix-galaxy-note-4-emmc-error-random-t3859448
or try this
as long as you can (until reboots) - download quickly an app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl&hl=en
this app will stop the phone going in deep sleep
launch the app Wake Lock PowerManager - set it on partial wakeup (level 4), it's doing it's job pretty well , no big deal on battery consumption
my son has it a 910F and it's still working after 5 months with this app installed
