[q] please halp. Low disk space - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone is always saying LOW MEMORY when I have well over 250mb of space left... I tried downloading some apps around 100mb and they didn't install(insufficient storage)
Can't even transfer 100mb of music via USB
This is the 3rd ROM I've tried and the storage is still an issue
Any ideas? Before I flash everything back to stock ?
Thanks!

the phone needs more than 500mb free space in the storage, otherwise you will get the message, and your blue telephone/data signal bars turn gray(dont connect to google servicers). this space is needed for the phones caches. free up some space.

i get it there all the time, thats how i know that it is why the blue bars turn gray when that message comes up. it was the same on the g1, but it was like 20 or 25mb free space on the g1 when it appeared. anyways, i was just there yesterday, it was a matter/reminder of moving 4gb of photos to my computer

HTC HD2 performance issue

I've recently bought a brand new HTC HD2.
It was working just fine untill I transferred around 700+ music files(6Gigs worth of space) on the memory stick.
Ever since it has became really glitchy.
It freezes and sometimes just restarts itself.
6gb worth of music is nothing compared to what i have on my iPod.
Is this a known issue?
Is HTC HD2 not designed to load so much music on?
try removing music from the card and see if the problem stops, and always call your carrier and HTC to complain, f#3$s should be working hard on all these fixes
Well yeah, i removed the music... it works just fine.
This is so not... what i expected from HTC HD2.
Such an awesome phone, but ya what's the point of having
16 gigs of memory when your phone acts as its on down syndrome... when you have only about 6 gigs of music on it?
I have about 5GB of music no slowdowns whatsoever.... try reformating your microsd card, HR your phone, then load the music, then put it into the hd2... see how it goes..

if you have the t-mobile version then nothin is wrong with the phone...the memory card has a low class...a higher class memory card will work fine
there was a workaround mentioned a while ago that loads the music when the phone starts not when you open the music tab. I can't find it anymore but maybe that helps with your issue (btw I'm looking for that workaround too, can't find it anymore).
i beleive there is a fix something to do with sdcard power management basically your phone is scanning the sdcard and when u have lot sof files it can really mess with the phone but search the forums there should be a reg fix
HR your phone
@doctorcete: What does "HR your phone" mean?
Thanks
HR=Hard Reset

ya if you can post a link, I'd appreciate it
hey try these reg fixes in this post
should we apply all of those in that thread for it to stop searching?
The ones that have SDCARD in it but the others are good as well for battery management!

I did a warranty exchange-- now nearly all my music is missing?

So earlier today I was listening to my music with no problems. I got home and found my replacement Vibrant waiting for me on my doorstep. I turned off my phone, took out the battery, memory card, and sim card. I got the new replacement Vibrant out of the box and put in the sim, memory card, and battery. Everything was working perfectly until a few hours later (now) when I turned on my music player and I notice I only have 5 artists on the artist page? I used to have nearly 30 on this phone. All of them were on my memory card because my previous Vibrant was rooted (so all of its internal mem was deleted) and after I rooted that Vibrant all of my music was still there. Any idea on how to get my music back?
Your music was most likely on the internal SD card of your old vibrant, not the external. And what does rooting have to do with wiping your card?

well i dont think it was on the internal because when I flashed different roms my internal memory was erased so the music would have disappeared and i was able to listen to that music for months after flashing the roms. now that i switched vibrants tho the music is suddenly gone

lol.......
How can someone who roots their phone and installs custom ROMS not know the difference between internal and external memory?

How can someone not know that the Vibrant does NOT have a disk drive in it? It has internal and external flash memory.
30 whole songs? Oh noes!
Yeah, I have 300 on my Vibrant and they are on the microSD card, NOT the internal memory.
If your songs are gone, then you probably put them on the internal memory of the old phone.

Oh really?
Just put the songs back on your phone. 30 songs... should take like 10 min. Or you could just get something like Audiogalaxy from the market and stream your entire music library to the phone and not use up any space.

External Capped with 7 gigs left

I am getting an insufficient resources available when I try to transfer information over to USB storage on my S. I checked and it's showing that I have 7 gigs left. Am I doing something wrong?
that seems very weird. i have yet to hear about something of this sort.. this isnt vent helpful but just to show that people care and read your problem! hopefully some one more knowledgeable comes to your rescue.
happy holidays
I know that sometimes my storage info does not update right away (had the same issue with Nexus 1.) I don't know if it is related to the file system management or just the way the OS tracks storage usage but you may actually have less storage than your device is saying you do. Try going to your memory card via astro or any other file manager and delete the trash file and then reboot. I did this last night and my memory usage corrected itself. Hope this works.
thanks for the quick repsonses guys. Astro is showing that I have 7.19 gigs free. So strange.
Just rebooted for the second time and that worked. Thanks guys
How about you try backing up all the important stuffs and reformat if thats even possible.
Are you running stock or a custom boot.img? I noticed on custom boot.img's I was getting insufficient storage errors... I haven't seen a single one since being on stock 2.3.1 rooted.

Ext Sdcard suddenly very slow to save or transfer.

My 64 gig external sd card is all of the sudden very slow to save pics and to transfer files from internal storage. It takes about 45 seconds to save a pic and I have cancelled multiple times the transfer of a video only 149mb cause it takes so long. Wiped caches and cleaned what I know but no help. Although the card going bad is a possibility it works well in every other way. Thanks for any input.

How full is it? What filesystem is it?
Its a 64 gig with 50 full. Not sure how to tell the format from the device. I did decrease the junk a little but still very slow. I'd rather not reformat unless I have to of course, but I dint want to lose anything. Probably time for a backup.

I would honestly pull it from the phone and copy everything off if you can and try a fresh format. SD cards can indeed go bad and you are right it is time for a backup.
Yeah. Guess I was just hoping. Thanks.
What was the result

HI,
I am currently experiencing the same thing. The SD card is not very old, maybe a year and hardly used. Don't leave us hanging. What was the end result? Did you resolve the issue?
I formatted my card with the phone, but am thinking maybe I should change the file system and format it using my computer.
