[Q] nexus 4 locking up during chromecast - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed my nexus 4 completely locking up during chromecast control being active. It especially likes to happen after locking the screen. I'm on 4.3. Anyone else having this issue? It never locked up before and doesn't seem to unless I'm actively controlling my chromecast.

Did you get 4.3 OTA or did you flash it?

Were you trying to stream with Netflix?

Flashed it. And it does it for Netflix and YouTube and gmusic. All I've tried.

No problems so far with 4.2.2. I'll try and remember to post back when the 4.3 OTA hits.

It happens to me too

Me too.

I am having the same issue. When I am Chromecasting, the phone will not wake and I have to hold power to reset, luckily this does not affect the stream. I also flashed 4.3 and did not wait for the OTA.
PS. I picked mine up from Best Buy also. I had to call around and find one that just had it delivered as they are going FAST. I know that a few of the other Best Buy's around me are getting a few shipments in over the weekend.

I flashed mine but I used the factory image, there shouldn't be any difference between the factory image and the ota..... Right?

Dunno, it seems everyone having issues flashed 4.3, but I have yet to see a post from someone with an OTA update.
4.3 is supposed to have new DRM in it. Perhaps it doesn't get along well with root.

Yeah, root was my very uneducated guess
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app

I do not think that it has anything to do with root. I sideloaded with locked bootloader and not rooted and am currently not rooted. But then again I could have messed up somewhere.

So..... Is any one not having this issue on 4.3 or is it just us that are the lucky ones?

I had a quick flick through of the nexus 7 forums didn't see any issues there yet
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app

I'm having the same issue with Netflix and YouTube on my Nexus 4 (haven't tried Google Music). I'm non-rooted, completely stock 4.3. I got my update OTA.
My wife's Nexus 7 (stock, unrooted 4.3 via/ OTA) has no issues.

Google wallet is SPRINT only. T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon chose the Isis mobile payment instead of Google's. Blame your carrier for that.

Anyone with 2.3.6 with GRK39C radio get this update? Wondering if I need to update manually since it's using the same version number as the initial release...
The radio seems a lot better now, faster in places where I live in So Cal where it used to suck.

It looks that way, so far. I have the i9020A and checked in, but got nothing. I've seen noone else claiming to have gotten it either
Sorry in advance for being dozy....
Can I just confirm that this will work on a WW GSM Nexus S? I'm sure I saw a couple of mentions from mainland Europe but nothing from the UK yet...
Just updated to 2.3.6 (i9023).
- Can't disable NFC
- Can't disable sign out from Latitude
Edit: Rebooting the phone solved it. It also renamed back "Google Mail" to Gmail.
I cant disable nfc either?

Yep works on European Nexus S. Just made a manual update with update.zip method. Can't see anything new yet...

Do you have the 8 or 16 GB? Apparently the 16 has issues when it's nearly full. I'd say wipe the caches and see if it gets better. Are you stock or running a custom rom? Stock or custom kernel?

I've never used any nexus I own without rooting
And AFAIK, rooting doesn't change the speed of the device, just gives you root powers to alter something, that MAY alter the speed!

Nexus 4 Date Issue

Hi,
First time post, I've had a search through the forums but haven't been able to find anything related, hopefully someone knows how to help though.
I turned on my Nexus 4 the other day and the date setting has somehow changed. As you can see in the screenshots, the last 2 numbers are the date and the first number seemingly just goes up by 1 each day. I've tried to change the date settings several times but nothing has changed. Is anyone else having the same problem?
My Lightflow app also stopped working at the same time, it won't open despite uninstalling and reinstalling. I would imagine these are unrelated but you never know.
Thanks in advance for any responses!

Looks like a software bug. Try flashing the stock images again and it should fix this problem. Try using carbon to do a backup first if you want to keep data.

Is it worth updating Nexus 4?

Hi guys, I just bought my nexus 4. I'm really hesitant in updating because I also own a nexus 7 and when I updated that, my tablet was just flawed from left to right so I ended up downgrading it back to 4.1.2. Also, I hear that there is a way to enable LTE, but that with the new update the LTE function goes away? I would really appreciate to hear you guys' opinions. Thanks!

I updated my Gnex and my Nexus 7 but i won't update my Nexus 4, i wanna keep my lte connection, it's up to you, if you don't need lte go ahead and update.

Even if you do update to the latest you can still flash a different radio which will give you the option to use lte.
Oh ok just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't lose the LTE option. Does the new update have any flaws? Or are u happy with the new update and what are the differences between 4.2.1 and 4.2.2?

I think a lot of us are on the 4.2.2 update. Those who didn't update are of course on 4.2.1 because they want their LTE. I would like to a say a majority of the members are on 4.2.2.
Some folks are still having Bluetooth and WiFi issues. Problems like the difficulty of connecting to their device and the same for WiFi. This is plaguing some users but not all. Just a small percentage. On my end everything is working fine. It's just weird to hear others are having these problems. I never have any issues with my devices. If you want to update to 4.2.2, I strongly suggest you do a super clean install/update.

Oh ok well it's good to hear that there isn't as many problems with the update as there was with the nexus 7. But I am a bit hesitant because I'm on T-Mobile and I hear that they are about to get LTE in my area. I live in Los Angeles.

Lol. I live in NY and I think LTE is available on T-Mobile here as well.
If you want to use LTE, then don't update yet. If 4.2.1 is working fine don't update it.

4.2.2 has been better for battery life, at least for me. You should update it. And for LTE you can flash old radio, but might not work with the latest versions of certain ROMs, so do your research on that. I believe you can just do a nandroid for 4.2.1 (not 100% on this)

Yeah thanks for the advice, and your right about the battery life because I feel that considering that the nexus 4 has a 2100mah battery the battery doesn't last long enough. If I can do a nandroid backup then it would be awesome. I'm pretty new to the nexus 4 scene, so I appreciate everyone's help thus far.

anyone have a link to the 4.2.1 stock ROM. i think my speaker for my phone has gotten lower with the 4.2.2 update and i want to downgrade it.
http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-4/occam/
It's the third one down the list on the "images". Use 7zip to unpack the files and flash away!
EDIT: There is the option to have 4.2.2 with the 33 baseband to retain the LTE, however that has caused problems for people so the only official way to make it work with LTE is to flash 4.2.1 with the 33 base.

Both my colleague at work and I have a Nexus 4 and own Peugeot cars with bluetooth connect stereos. We both get the same problem on a periodic basis. For both of us, it has only started since installing KitKat version of Android (v.4.4 and more recently v4.4.2). Neither os us had this problem with 4.3. My phone is unlocked, rooted and running a custom recovery (albeit with a stock factory image rom). My colleagues phone is totally stock (as per yours).
I have read somewhere that it *might* fix the issue by installing a pre-KitKat kernel and radio, however this needs you to be unlocked/routed/etc.
I think your only solution will be o wait until Google eventually patches the problem. I mightgo and report this issue on Googles bug tracker. The more people that do, the higher priority the issue becomes.
