I used .83 for couple days, haven't noticed any noise. Now I'm on .84 and haven't noticed any noise problems either. I think mic volume is slightly better on .83 and .84 than on previous versions, but I did not run exact tests, just asked people if they hear me better then before.

it was just the one call i made..(i hope) .84??I didnt see that the official release has an updated modem!!
pikachukaki,
Well, I shall say .84 feels about the same (may be a bit snappier), but this is very subjective, I only can attribute to browsing on Wi-Fi, not heavy video or massive downloads. Since you are more proficient with these things, may I ask a question -- when I am burning updated ROM ( CM nighties through CyanDelta https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cyandelta&hl=en, just 3-10 megs update per nightly), do I need to reapply radio every time, or one time is good enough - nobody overrides it in ROMs anyway?
Thank you very much,
@ch
a bit OT: Do you know what this "modem" code is ? Whole firmware (including linux and stuff) for wireless modems and routers can be fit into 4 megs. These are like 50 megs images. Are they storing there, some funky tables for every cellular provider and their towers in the world?

1. What's the best version to use?
2. What's the most current official radio, not leaked... thanks.
4.04
4.04
Is that from the e27 update?
Also wondering why you say 4.04 is better...?
thanks
It depends on your location.
4.04 is the latest however I find 4.03 to be the best. Mileage will vary. Try them both out and see which one works for you
I had a bit of problems with the original, none with 4.03, and none with 4.04.
3G issues are highly overhyped.
Don't bother with the radio.
To the average user, there is absolutely ZERO noticeable difference between radio versions.
Anyone who says otherwise is just experiencing a nice little placebo effect
I'm running 4.03... Does radio affect GPS ?

with my T-Mobile Nexus One, i had the best results with 4.03. with 4.04 i had signal drops more often. since switching to the at&t version i've tried all 3 radios and there's no notable difference. all 3 worked well: getting 4 signal bars and consistent internet speeds averaging 3.2 Mbps/downloads and 1.3 Mbps/uploads. fyi, the at&t version uses the 4.04 radio.

Unless Speed Test is totally bonkers I get 2X faster data connection with 4.03 than I do with 4.04. Reception-wise there is no difference between the two IMO.
Two times the speed suggests there is something is not playiing well with 404 on your installation. Never argue with what works though.
Another vote for 4.03.
Was getting CONSTANT drops after the upgrade
Bare with me as I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to tinkering with phones but can someone explain why there are so many variations in the results of flashing phones with, specifically, jvk gingerbread?
I flashed my phone a few weeks ago when jvk was initially leaked and I've had no issues. My battery lasts my 18 hour day from waking up to going back to bed with plenty to spare and pretty heavy usage, I've experienced no bugs, no issues with games, screen rotation problems, gps problems. Its been as good as, if not better than froyo (the battery life certainly is) but then other people experience all manner of issues with the same installation. Where does the inconsistency come from? Odin? The files? The phone? Why do bugs effect one phone but not another?
i think it has to do with the previous ROM and files on the phone what cause bugs (apart from the bugs stated in the actual ROM )
thats why people HIGHLY recommend a full factory reset along with formatting sd card / datadata/ cache partition / dalvik cache and so on.
to ensure a complete and empty phone before installing the new ROM
You probably have a point.
Mine was stock unmolested 2.2.1 which had, had a factory reset a couple of weeks before I installed jvk due to failing to start.
a lot more could be down to third party apps as well, and pulling the battery out without turning the device off.
this doesnt give the phone time to save open apps / files. this can cause issues in the long run.
you wouldnt just unplug your PC without shutting it down would ya so i guess the same thing goes for these modern day smartphones
Plus its a beta firmware .

Actually this is a very good question. I too installed JVK ... one of the first as soon as it was uploaded on 26th March. Rooted it, modded icons and its running like a dream ever since, no FCs,,fast, smooth and nearly 2 days battery typically.
Strangely for JVK I parted from my normal policy of factory resetting, formatting SD, using PIT with re-partition etc, and despite having flashed many ROMs and kernels - from 2.1, 2.2, 2.2.1, JV1, Darky, Kitchen etc. etc its still purring away.
So for me at least, with the minimum of effort and preparation, JVK has proved an absolute winner.
I'm amazed at how much flack is flying around elsewhere against it...it is very strange to find such a range of experiences with the same hardware and the same firmware

Same here. I'd be seriously tempted to leave all as it is when a final version is released unless there was something specific that it offered that jvk doesn't. You see lots of people having all kinds of issues but it wouldn't help if I just posted that mine was fine and they must be doing something wrong, hence my question.
I just got my HD2 a couple days ago an went with MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v2.6 A2SD+ NAND build which was nice and easy to flash over and has really impressed me.
The only problem I have, however, is that the talk mic is too loud and people I call complain that it sounds like I am on speaker phone. I've tested it a bit and it seems that it is too loud.
Obviously the build I am using is not the newest, but has this been addressed in something like pongster's HyperDroid builds?
I've searched all around and this seems to be an issue that was more common when the MDJ build was released, but it would seem people are still having issues with some newer builds?
Thanks so much!
So, I have switched over to the HyperDroid builds and it didn't help the problem, I also went ahead and followed the proposed solution on this thread and haven't really noticed much of an improvement. Is there no way to throw an app in the signal path and just turn the gain down? Or better yet run some sort of background noise reduction?

I'm running a Nexus 4 with a stock 4.3 ROM and the .84 radio, and I was wondering if others noticed the same behavior I am seeing on my device.
When I go into a terribly low signal area, e.g. underground parking garage, behind a thick concrete wall, I noticed my N4 will switch almost immediately to looking for an EDGE signal instead of HSPA, etc.
My phone never did this on earlier ROMs, but this usually left me without any signal/service when the HSPA network was non-existent.
It definitely seems to have improved the connectivity when strong signals are impeded by buildings, etc. in more urban areas.
Has anyone noticed similar behavior in their N4?
Has anyone noticed other things about the upgraded .84 radio that are better, worse, or different?
Anyone know where there is a .84 changelog, by chance?
Thanks everyone!
Seems like great news, I just replied to this (before coming here):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2407581
And OP said something similar to that, although he didn't mention any radio specifics, only about stock 4.3.
Can I ask you where I can find more about this radio mod? Or is it the default for stock 4.3?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
Just using the stock radio that came with 4.3, 0.84.
I downloaded the "early" leak of the 4.3 release for the N4, and noticed it had radio 0.83.
Since the stock 4.3 ROM came with 0.84, I'm even more curious to see an official changelog of the radio versions.
Thanks for the link, reading the thread now
The reason is headphone audio hissing. I am such an audiophile and cant stand it. I have few questions for you. Please, dont tell me to try JB myself, because i will loose all my apps, data and so on. I just want to be sure about returning. Thanks.
1. Is the performance much worse comparing to KK?
2. Do you know any KK roms that has no headphone hissing?

I dont know which version your on but the audio hissing was said to be fixed with d80220c. Theres also an option in xposed that has a fix for it. And from what i remember jb didn't perform any worse that kk. I don't think you'll notice any difference unless you compare them side to side.
There's hope

20c - was that the version that came in may/june? It didn't fix it - some people reported that the problem disappeared, but for others(like me) it remained.
In my case it made me switch to using custom KitKat ROM's. I've never had the problem since doing that. CM11, CloudyFlex, G3 ports and now Pardus Sensation Black has all been good in that aspect. I've used Dorimanx's kernel with all but CM11. So you don't need to go back to JB.
You could try and just flash Dorimanx's kernel if you want a fast fix and don't change ROM. I think that might be enough. But if not - switching to one of the ROM:s mentioned definitely fixes it.
There's a monster thread here about it. Im sure by now there would be several fixes or work arounds.
If anyone can tell me how to get good sound on aosp though, I'd love to here it. It seems no matter what I do I can't get it to sound as good as stock no matter how many mods or kernel tweaks I make.

Thanks! Flashed dorimanx kernel, the hiss is still here, but uncomparably quieter.

There is one fix at G2 tweakbox, didn't worked for me. Also temporaly fix you set from from hidden meniu, but once phone reboots you have to refix it again. Some people claim the sound was fixed with the most recent update. No other fixes
