[Q] Nexus 10/4.3 - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Nexus 10 (unrooted, fully stock on 4.2.2) is not showing an update available. Any suggestions on what I can do to get 4.3? I downloaded the file Google has up (.tar), but I really don't know what to do with it.
I am used to rooting and using zips, as I run Cyanogen on my G Nexus.
Anyone care to offer me some tips on what to do with the Nexus 10 to get 4.3 on it tonight? I have both Mac and PC available to me to work with.

patience. Did they say that OTA's were rolling out today?

I think you have to flash with fastboot. Instructions can be found online.

Yes, they said they would start rolling out today. Unfortunately, it will be slow as always to reach everyone.

It's a .tgz file, there is a .zip in there, but I don't want to flash it by itself.

You flash it the same way you unlocked your device. Using fastboot commands.

Nexus 4,4.3 update worst ever!!!(Need Help)

It's been 4 months since i bought Nexus 4 i was enjoying the 4.2 version no problems with heating issues(very minor no biggie),no performance problems neither graphic or application related issues..........however i did found out that there was Bluetooth problem in Nexus 4 devices, thought by next update it might solve that issue(bug).
Now i updated to 4.3 i received OTA and after installing it :-
The games i used to play lag ridiculously which didn't in previous 4.2,i saw drop in frame rates, the graphics were better before now the look like some 8-bit textures.....What the Hell?!?
My phone now get overheated my messaging and surfing which it didn't used to on 4.2 and it heats like anything when i am on call.....
Now it works very slow as if the update has degraded its hardware capability..... :crying:
Please provide me instructional guidance on how to rollback to my previous 4.2 version stock android(i did factory reset it didn't help, its still 4.3)
I need your HELP here!!!
You can flash 4.2.2 factory image through fastboot.
Hit thanks if I helped.

Thank you Thibaultvw.
is it that hard to use forum tools to search for keywords like... say... nexus 4 toolkit? come one people... it's a rule, it ain't matter you are a newbie you can always search... anyway go to nexus 4 section, then go to original android development and there you have toolkits in the first 5-6 threads. goog luck
I'd personally reflash the 4.3 factory image before going back, I've had no issues with 4.3 after a nice clean install (never used the OTA as I didn't wanna wait)

As been told, just flash the 4.2.2 image if you wanna go back but honestly i had no problems but applications incompatibility and that's not cause of 4.3 but the applications that doesn't support it yet.

4.2.2 was really much better to be honest, but from what i experienced was that my N4 became very slow i mean chrome taking time to open gmail taking time to open a mail and even refresh, the games i have like Vector,Virtual Tennis Challenge i saw like graphics screwed up........maybe i agree with you maybe be they are not compatible.....
But overheating, reduced performance, its to much to take,i googled a found people unable to turn on their N4 atleast am lucky my situation wasn't upto that.
Thats weird... I installed NFS Most Wanted, Asphalt 7 and they both worked nicely... I also thought there might be some graphics issues but its fine. Maybe you like to try again? maybe there's a missing wipe or something that is causing all these problems.

Hmm.. gotta wonder why Google provides Android upgrades but no easy way to downgrade. Even Microsoft Windows Update Service Packs have an uninstall option to roll the changes back.

Did a Factory reset, still same issue....strange though i did read that 4.3 update improved performance for people but from what i could tell you that there very few like 1 or 2 people in 30 or some complaints saying 4.3 worked as charm for them.....it worked for you to,wonder what is google going to do about it

What's not easy? Download the factory image from Google and flash it the same way you would any factory image from Google. It has the easiest of all mobile phones to up/downgrade as it's a Nexus device

That was the same thing in my mind though, but it seems Nexus 4 has no option to rollback stock, the galaxy nexus series do,some i think.
Flashing 4.2.2 stock is the only solution i think:angel:
It isnt that hard. Just find yourself a good video tutorial if you like and all good

[How to Video] Manually update the Nexus 7 to 4.4 KitKat

Hopefully this cuts down the questions. You must be on the 4.3 JSS15R build to update.

Yes right now there is no update zip for the LTE N7. I will update my site once that zip comes available
I just upgraded. It seems that the ota package doesn't contain the new launcher that the Nexus 5 uses. There is no Google Now home screen as the far left screen and the app drawer still contains a tab for widgets. Is there a separate app to install now from the store?

Yeah it does a signature check of your system files and the ota file, if one does not check out the update won't apply
I get an error when it tries to install the update - something to do with the BasicDreams.apk not being valid (or something along those lines). It then aborts the installation. Not sure if anyone else is running into this problem, or if there's something I can do to fix it. I'm running stock, but rooted, and I've switched back to the standard recovery image from TWRP to try the install.
Thanks!
Thanks man, I've never used the stock recovery before, so had no clue how to get past the broken robot screen. Your video helped a lot!
Does anyone know the way to do this on a Mac?
Question?
Hello,
I can't get the side load to work because it no longer recognizes my nexus 7 when i enter recovery mode? is there a quick fix for this?
im rooted,using cuatom.kernel and recovery

Sorry goober, I answered to the wrong post by accident. I intended to answer to the guy asking about the recovery mode.
But I think the Mac procedure should be pretty similar, the archive download from Google contains the same tools for Mac. Just not sure how driver installer works on Mac.

Still not having any luck. I can sideload the file onto the tablet fine, but when it gets to the "Verifying current system" stage I get an error saying:
"/system/app/BasicDreams.apk" has unexpected contents
E:Error in /tmp/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
I've tried this several times and keep getting the same result. I'm rooted, but running the stock kernel and rom, and using the stock recovery. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Will this work on a stock rooted N7?

[Q] 4.4 KitKat is still not available for me OTA (11/17/2013)

Hello fellow N10 owners,
Unfortunately, the OTA KitKat update for my N10 is still not available for download.
I have reset the Google Frameworks app, but that did not work.
I am running Android Version 4.3 build JWR66Y stock rooted.
If you guys have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Also, If you would know
how I could keep root after the update that would be awesome!
Thank you

Perhaps Google is waiting for Kitkat to be released on the new Nexus 10 before updatring the original Nexus 10.
There is no new Google 10 and seriously once you get KitKat on your tablet you'll wish you hadn't, the OS is like a giant phone and isn't geared up for tablets.

I disagree. With the exception of the PhoneUI settings screen it's exactly the same thing we had before with much improved performance and reliability. I'm so glad to get rid of 4.3.. Nothing but problems.

The full image is available on the Nexus factory images site. If you can't wait for the OTA, just download and flash that. Just remember to edit the batch file so you don't wipe everything. Here is the link.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?csw=1#mantarayjwr66y
Taking advantage of the topic, I'm from Brazil and me has not yet come to update my tablet version is also JWR66Y rooted, I need to get the root to update via OTA? Because I remember the last update to 4.3, when restarted I had problem with the boot image and had to use a tool to change the boot image
I waited, and waited, but gave up a couple nights ago. Seems to me, it should be like a voting system. The more manual update checks you do, the sooner you get it versus those that don't manually check. Those that don't realize the update is even or won't miss it for another few days.
Editing the -w out of the batch file was troublesome for me. The flag would complete and the tablet would reboot, but it would then hang on the nexus boot screen. Tried twice, but waiting a half an hour each time, I deemed it failure. Unexpected too since I had done a full wipe, factory fresh 4.3 the week prior.
Running the unedited batch with wipe went without a hitch. No biggie since I had done it recently.

Yeah, I updated mine with the factory image several days ago...I decided to go ahead and let it do the full wipe since I was reading that folks were having issues after removing the "-w" flag. Full wipe is probably the way to go anyway if want to avoid bugs.
For anyone interested who hasn't done this before, I found the instructions here to be quite helpful:

is KITKAT 4.4.1 for Nexus7 2013 wifi out yet?

if YES, is there a way to install it manually to our N7.2?
Someone will probably post it in this thread once the link gets discovered :fingers-crossed:
After that, just flash back the original boot.img and system.img from KRT16S if you are on a custom kernel or have modified any system files, and then flash the OTA, either from a custom recovery or sideload it from the stock recovery

Check here for the factory image.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
I use the WugFresh tool kit for easy flashing of stock images.
Android 4.1.1 KitKat is rolling out in stages available for N5, N7LTE, N4 but not yet for N7WiFi also factory images for 4.1.1 won't be available till next week. So we have to wait for somebody to get the OTA and grab the link.

That's pretty much my feel on it. I just installed those dalvik patches yesterday, I don't want to have to flash the stock libraries, wipe cache, and then flash 4.4.1 just for an extremely minor incremental update that isn't even focused on our device.

I believe that there's more to it. 50MB is not that small for a patch, perhaps they ironed out some bugs(there's a hidden wifi bug in 4.4 that I would like to see fixed).
Stability and optimization improvements are always welcome too...

as far as i know, and that can be wrong, if your android is untouched (no root or anything else (like xposes framwork)) you will get the update over the air.
BUT if you don't there are factory images that you can download and flash your phone quite easily
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/how-to-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2010312
or a toolkit to do it automatically
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/how-to-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2010312
i would recommend to do it with the first method. if something goes wrong you will know what is it and you can ask for help. with the toolkit if something goes wrong things are more complicated to find the error.
P.S. if you decide installing the factory images via console (first option), it is highly recommended to read the entire process first and after do the procedure.
My phone is rooted, but i dont have any custom ROMs or framework , will this affect it? Or when I get the update my root will simply be gone?

You'll lose root and the custom recovery with the ota. But if you haven't modified / deleted any system files you should get the ota.

Alright, thank you again for clearing things up!
It's also worth noting that Google pushes update at different times depending on which area you live in, so even if you read on the news that Lollypop is released on the Nexus 4, it may take a while for your phone to receive the OTA.
Personally, I advice you to install TWRP recovery, its safe and easy to install kernels and roms
