Any Guide available For Flashing 4.2.2 on Custom kernel without Loosing Data

As the Topic Suggest is there any guide someone made for noobs like me
who wanna upgrade there NEXUS 7 to 4.2.2 having Custom kernel without loosing data ?

There are two STOCK 4.2.2 roms in this thread. One is DEODEXED and the other is ODEXED.
I recommend downloading the DEODEXED STOCK 4.2.2 rom.
Here's the link to the DEODEXED STOCK ROM:

Download it, put it in your N7 and flash it via recovery. You won't lose any data and you don't have to wipe anything. Just flash and go!

1) make a full nandroid (cwm/twrp) backup
2) flash a 4.2.2 stock-derived ROM on top of existing ROM - no wipe
2.5) flash a minimal root kit (SuperSU or Superuser) if not in ROM in step 2 - no wipe
3) flash the same kernel you used previously - no wipe
4) profit!
No workie? Restore backup from step # 1 and try something else.

2. No it won't give you an error. Why would it?
3. It's from the official OTA update. You just don't need to wipe anything. Trust me on this.
4. How come? I did this last night on my Nexus 7 and everything is just fine.
5. You won't get a bootloop or an error if you do exactly what I just told you.

For safety I made a full online nandroid backup as above suggested now the issue is I am trying to copy the backup on PC
But when I plug nexus 7 on PC
In clockworkmod folder the backup folder doesn't show up but in
File manager at tablet shows it :/

There's no need to do that. But in spite of it, I can tell you that you can just create the nandroid backup and leave it in your device. Don't pull it out. Just flash the download in my previous post and if anything goes wrong. Enter recovery mode and restore your system. Even if you did pull the nandriod backup file from the N7 and the device fails to boot up, you cant just put the file back in to restore it that way. It won't mount so you can access the internal storage system.
P.S i don't know how to make the backup show up but i think there are a few thread here that some people have found a solution to it.

i am finally upgraded to 4.2.2
tell me why this one didnt gave "7" error ?
Where this Guide was Hiding i have been looking for easiest method and this is what it is

I have had TWRP behave the same way - sometimes it will put backups in
/data/media/TWRP/...
and sometimes in
/data/media/0/TWRP/...
It is a bit of a mystery what causes this to happen. Strangely, when there is a folder in the first location, TWRP (2.4.1.0) will not find the second one. But, if I manually move the files from the first location (/data/media/TWRP) to the second location (/data/media/0/TWRP) using a file manager, then TWRP will find the backups no problem.
well, the "sdcard" mount point ( == /data/media/0/ ) is the thing that shows up on the PC via MTP mode, so I would just move the files to the second location. I'm not sure if CWM behaves the same way, but you will certainly be able to copy them from the N7 to the PC at that point.

LOL. I told you it works.
There's one thing that you're missing from that update. And that is the bootloader version, the bootloader version that you're currently using is 4.13. The newest version is 4.18. You don't have to update it if you don't want to.
I'll include this link for you to flash the latest bootloader via command prompt.

Updating bootloader does not wipe anything. It simply replaces and updates the one you already have on.
Definition of a bootloader:

Sideload? I think so.

boot(basically kernel) and system are usually what people mean 'custom ROM'. So if you just manually flash these two things(and usually need to be done together), none of your 'data' would be lost.
So just find these two images (usually .img) in whatever custom ROM you want and flash it.
This is the unix convention for a long long while and android is just linux

[Q] ROM HELP for nexus 7

I just started using the Nexus 7 (WiFi) and I am on 4.2.1 and I am rooted. I rooted with the Wug's Toolkit. Anyway I want to update to 4.2.2 and I don't want to use any custom rom's, I just want to have an original update that I can flash without having to unroot. I have flashed my nexus with Clockwork Mod Recovery. Any places were I can get this rom and how I can install it?

That's because you are using a custom recovery. You can either flash a stock recovery or edit some files in the zip so you can flash it in the custom recovery.

Possibly, but probably not. In most of the reports that have been coming in - when the users actually report the full error message rather than saying something ambiguous like "I got a Status 7 error" - the problems revolve around altered/removed files in /system, or having a custom kernel (boot or LNX partition) installed. That suggests that the recovery version is not causing assert() failures.
The other thing to rememder is that the program that is interpreting the edify updater-script is the "updater-binary" program which is shipped inside the OTA - so it is virtually identical independent of the choice of recovery (other than perhaps kernel behavior differences).

Even though what you are saying here does only require being able to operate a plain-text editor and a zip tool, it's way above the heads of most folks who think that OTAs should work on non-stock ROMs. And I'm not sure how these folks would be better off with partially-patched ROMs. In any event, if this course is taken indeed a custom recovery would need to be used for this, as modifying the zip contents will break the OTA package signing, so the stock recovery couldn't be used.
The OP should just
- make a full nandroid backup of what they have now
- download the factory 4.2.2 images from Google
- extract the system.img file and boot.img images
( hint for windoze users: 7-zip understands .tgz files)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
- reflash a basic SuperSU or Superuser root kit
Sort of crude, but it's a decent hack for the lazy or poorly informed. It won't "erase my data", but presumably it will break whatever it was that altered the stock system and/or boot partitions - the very things that are causing the OTA to fail on them with their rooted & modified ROMs.
If they don't like the result, they can simply restore their nandroid backup.

Stock Recovery

I flashed TWRP to make backups and am finding I want to revert to stock recovery for whenever the next OTA is pushed. I'm on stock 4.2.2. Is there a repository to flash the stock recovery specific to the version of android I'm on or other way to backup/re-flash stock android prior to installing custom recovery?

The stock Android recovery cannot make entire system (NANDROID) backups like TWRP or CWMR can. If your looking to re-install stock Android 4.2.2 for the Nexus 10 you can download and flash the Nexus 10 factory image from here (I would recommend taking a look at this great guide if your are unfamiliar with how to flash factory images). If you just want to reflash the Nexus 10 stock recovery you can download it from here, boot into fastboot mode and then flash it with the following command:

After it completes you can reboot into recovery mode and you should now have the stock Nexus 10 recovery image installed. For flashing the stock recovery you should try and match it to the Android version so if your on Android 4.2.2 try and flash the recovery.img that was pulled from the Android 4.2.2 factory image. However usually you can get away with flashing 4.2 or 4.2.1 version of the stock recovery.img as it is unlikely that anything major changed with the stock recovery image in those small incremental Android updates.

If I'm on the go and want to interchange between custom recovery and previous stock recovery without the aid of a computer nearby, how would I do that? Is there an app that can save/snapshot my current stock recovery before flashing custom recovery (and then can later let me re-flash that saved recovery)?

Correct flashing stock recovery won't make you loose any data. But as always when your flashing anything and if you have even the slightest hesitation backup any data you wouldn't want to loose.

OK what is the command to use to flash because the one from the previous page didn't work it said something about not finding it or something are there any drivers that need to be installed or something I'm missing? I connected it to my CPU and turned it on while holding power and volume and it went menu where you see tablet info? Any help please

Don't know if you still need this info, but you can use flash_image to flash recoveries without having to connect to a PC. So if you save the recovery image files, you can switch easily. Have a look here:

The IMG file is not found or flash_image itself isn't there? If you don't have flash_image, you can download it (I think there's a link on that page I referenced, or just Google it). If the former, you need to first navigate to the folder flash_image is in (/system/bin with the ROM I have on my N10), then run the command, making sure the IMG file is in the root of /sdcard.

So I got the OTA update, but after downloading it, the install failed (dead android says: error), then the Nexus 7 reboots to 4.2.2.
I already did a factory reset, but it didn't help either...
Anyone with the same issue?

I got this problem...
I download this OTA...Then it say reboot to install but it enter TWRP.
Then I put the zip to internal storage and flash but I got error.

looks like your SystemUI.apk has been modified not in original. I would recommend to get copy of systemUI.apk from stock 4.2.2 and copy it to your tablet and using file explorer, replace it. and give a try.

but i didn't save my old SystemUI,can you upload?

my OTA failed too, different error. this usually always the case if /system/ folder integrity check failure (error 7), means files in /system/ folder are not original or modified. Yours does not give any details, but I bet it is. to see what error, try to flash it thru CWM or any other custom recovery you use.

I guess I'll download the Nexus Toolkit, click on the flash stock + unroot button, so it flashes the stock 4.2.2 and then I'll try to OTA update again.
I already unrooted, but I think it's not a problem.

Seems like it is not fixable!
I used fast boot to push my missing file.
I used es file explorer.
I used titanium back up to make the app, system...
No way, nothing. Not the slightest luck.
(My missing app is xt9ime.apk)
I haaaaaate this situation.
the worst thing is that xt9ime.apk is asus keyboard, and it is disabled by google on nexus 7.
why should not having an app that they don't want to use be a problem. X(

Are you guys with errors using SuperSU? If so what version?
It seems like that the last couple versions touch a file used by OTAs. The Dev recommends using the "Full Unroot" option in the SuperSU app prior to accepting the OTA.

I did full unroot, and I also did a factory reset, but it still fails to install.
Using Wug's Toolkit to flash stock 4.2.2 is a good idea?
Then try to OTA update 4.3 again?

You cannot install the full image from Google using fastboot? Just back up your data(if you can) then try a fresh install.

Fastboot is a utility used to control the base fastboot firmware on many Android devices. It lets you do low-level actions such as flashing a custom recovery, ROM, or kernel. Toolkits run fastboot behind the scene, but automate the commands for newer users.

I had exactly the same problem and after trying a few things, I just found a working solution for my Nexus 7.
I used the same tool I used to unlock and root a few months ago: Nexus Root Toolkit 1.6.3.
I made a backup of my files first, my idea being to reflash the 4.2.2 rom
I downloaded the system file here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occamjwr66v
Then, in the Nexus Root Kit, launch " flash stock + unroot" and select the downloaded system file.
The flash lasts 5 minutes, and the system will reboot.
Then you need to reactivate the usb debugging .
The next action is to relock the Nexus, with the "OEM Lock" in Nexus Root Toolkit.
The system will reboot after flash.
Then, the 4.3 update will be available automaticaly but this time the installation won't crash.
I hope this could help.

I had stock 4.2.2, stock recovery, rooted (SuperSU).

Hmm, why didn't you flash directly the 4.3 factory image and the SuperSU.zip on top of it ...

I wanted to save my data and wasn't sure if going directly to 4.3 would be safe. Was just being cautious and letting the OTA do the update.

Aokp to 4.4

Hello all. I am in need of some assistance. I had bought the wifi nexus 7 (2012) rooted for my son... it had aokp rom booted on it.. my other son has a stock nexus 7 and received the update.. can someone please help me and guide me know how to update his nexus to 4.4 stock rom.. I'm not a stranger to rooting and such. He currently has the newest version of twrp recovery and bootloader 4.13.

Hi, jjdicecco...
If you have a Nexus 7 with a Custom ROM (such as AOKP) installed on it, you won't be able to update it to stock Android 4.4 KitKat via the normal process of OTA updates.
Googles OTA updates do not work with Custom ROMs - only with Unmodified Stock
The reason why, is because OTA's aren't full ROMs - they consist of a collection of 'patches' that are applied (during the update process) to the system files in the preexisting version of official stock Android. But before those 'patches' can be applied, the OTA runs a checksum on all system files to ensure they haven't been modified... and a Custom ROM such as AOKP, represents a very significant modification of stock Android... so, in short, the OTA will abort with no changes made.
The only way to bring your AOKP Nexus 7 up to date with KitKat, is to forget about OTA's and flash the full factory image for Android 4.4 KitKat, available here. Essentially, you need to re-install the entire Android OS from scratch.
It's important you download the correct factory image for your specific Nexus 7... so if your Nexus 7 is WiFi only, you'll need the 'nakasi' image... if it's the WiFi & 3G model, then the 'nakasig' image is required.
Although there are toolkits that will get the job done (so to speak), I've never used them myself... and IMHO, you'd be better of using the fastboot tool that Google themselves provide.
There is an excellent tutorial available here on how to use fastboot to flash a factory image on the Nexus 7.
It looks a little daunting, but if, as you say, you're no stranger to rooting or flashing recoveries such as TWRP, then you shouldn't have much problem following it - it's actually quite straightforward.

Yes, you can.
If you have TWRP installed, just download the ROM .zip of your choice directly to the Nexus 7... boot into TWRP, go to WIPE>ADVANCED WIPE and clear Dalvik Cache, System, Cache and Data... BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, WIPE INTERNAL STORAGE... or you'll lose the Custom ROM you just downloaded. You'll have no bootable OS, and no easy means of installing one... without resort to either ADB or fastboot.
After this, use the INSTALL button in TWRP to flash that ROM. (You'll need to navigate to where it downloaded to - usually the /download folder on the Nexus 7's internal storage).
It's a good idea, though, before doing any of this, to perform a NANDROID backup of your current AOKP system using the BACKUP button in TWRP... just in case anything goes wrong with your ROM flash, or if the ROM you flashed isn't what you expected it be.
You'll then have an easy way of getting back to your current setup.
