Is it possible for someone to break out just the radio portion of the latest update and post it as a flashable .zip for those of us who don't want the new locked down UI, only the radio update?

Hi all,
Flashing of RADIO rom is that same reason as my Kaiser?
Better performance, GPS, etc etc?
And where can i find a thread where i can see where the latest radio rom is working correct in given Country's, or are the HERO Radio roms for every country?
I know for Kaiser that not all roms are working correct in Netherlands for example.
cheers

Yes indeed, that is exactly what updating the radio is good for.
I don't think they are country/region specific,... I just used the latest one and my network signal is now much better!!!
All radio updates can be found in the sticky's at the top of the Hero-Development section,... Heres the link though,... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563757
Peace
nothing to add here, except DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY! it takes a few minutes and you may see a screen that makes you think you bricked your phone.

Yep yep,.... V-IMPORTANT!!!!!
Just wait.
Don't want to start an additional thread for my [question], so this seems to be a good place to ask it .
Where do these radio roms come from? How come HTC don't provide them for downloading in their site? Maybe it's simply not worth flashing them or they are actually not good in a sense that they are not tested properly and stuff?
Also, do the full ROM upgrades include a newer radio? So can we expect a new radio included in the upcoming official 2.1 ROM?
AND, what is the difference betwen EU and JU? Currently I have 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18 and the newest one is 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26. This may sound super dumb, but maybe mine is like European one and the newest is Japanese or something?
Oh, and the last one (even though I'm sure there is an answer somewhere deep in these forums): how do you flash radio, in short?
Thanks

I'm no pro, but I can attempt this,...
Where do these radio roms come from?...
I *think* the official updates from HTC come with updated radio ROMS,... Then some clever guys from either here or Modaco take 'dumps' of the update from the handset itself, then seperate the two.
Maybe it's simply not worth flashing them or they are actually not good in a sense that they are not tested properly and stuff?...
I take XDA to be a reliable source of information now,.... If you do your research you'l be fine. I made sure I read through the forums to make sure there are no known issues before upgrading my radio to the latest one.

Hmmmm,.... Good question. But no-one would know that yet.
Maybe mine is like European one and the newest is Japanese or something?...
I thought the exact same thing, but NO,... It doesn't mean anything,... Apparently it is just a reference used by HTC. I used the latest on my Orange UK branded Hero, which is now being used with an o2 SIM.
How do you flash radio, in short?...
To install a custom firmware ROM I had to update the recovery console. Once that is done, you just put the new radio onto your SD, load into the recovery console, then select update from SD,... DONE,... Easy as pie,... Piece of cake!!!
Thanks all for the info.. And yes.. NEVER pull the Battery out of the phone.. untill you can slide down your lockscreen isn't it? haha

Hi
I have rooted my 3UK HTC hero and running Hero21 community 1.7.
If the Hero gets an official upgrade to 2.1 then if I upgrade, 3UK will lock the Hero down.
I want the best of both worlds, I want to have the latest upgrade, but I don’t what the network provider
To lock it down.
Hywel
Dont upgrade to official,as soon as it is out most surely someone will port it.
Its just a matter of 1 or 2 days...

Hopefully this will alleviate some confusion about official/custom ROMs.
I'm not exactly sure how OTA updates work, but probably pretty similar to RUU's. An RUU is an executable that will flash several "ROMs" to your phone: Boot, Radio, Recovery, System and Data. It also appears to write to the SPL, but we don't care about SPL as much as we care about the Recovery ROM. Anyway, you run the RUU, it flashes all that to your phone as one big package, including overwriting our recovery ROM, and you lose root, probably forever. However, you can extract the ROM.zip from the RUU file and you see all the separate images that get written to your phone. With access to all the separate images, you can repackage them into an update.zip like we use to install custom ROMs.
You can turn an official ROM (from an RUU file) into a custom ROM in just a few minutes by manipulating a few files. (There are other threads dedicated on how to cook ROMs.)
So, if you think that there's some advantage to flashing the official RUU, there's not, because with a bit of reading and manipulating some files, you can flash your carrier's ROM without losing root/custom recovery.

Probably a few hours at most, depending on what time they release it.
It has been mentioned over at the Modaco Forums that for AT&T Nexus one users the 3g reception is better if downgrading radio from shipped version EPE54B to ERE27 Radio. I want to try this but before I do I want to know that since I installed the latest Cyanogen Rom with gapps for EPE54B will the apps no longer work when I flash my radio to ERE27? Thanks in advance.
I find it strange that the ERE27 radio would be better for ATT 3G... but i you want to try that, go ahead and flash the radio via fastboot... no available ROM or firmware is tied to a radio version for the N1 and it won't disturb ur apps or settings...
craig thanks for the quick response, I find it strange too but take a look at the thread
http://android.modaco.com/content/g...exus-one-downgraded-radio-improved-reception/
it seems that a lot of people are having success with this. Another question if it doesnt matter what apps you have etc then why does cyanogen list the gapps for the different radio versions?
Well, with each new iteration of the official [leaked] firmwares, the cooks incorporate the updated Google Apps software and some firmware modules from within that ROM. So for a particular cooked ROM release, a specific Google Apps pack would work optimally with it. The radio on the other hand is simply the latest available at the time the ROM was released...
is there way to update only radio on rooted device ???
Look in dev. section for the Legend, there are zips for doing exactly that
Hi!!!
I've got HTC Wildfire with Froyo 2.2 not rooted an HBOOT-1.01.0001 S-ON
Hipotetically:
If will download CyanogenMod 7 Update from here http://mirror.cyanogenmod.com/get/update-cm-7.0.0-RC4-buzz-signed.zip
or any other version of CyanogenMod
rename it as update.zip on my sdcard
get in to RECOVERY and choose the option Apply sdcard:update.zip
like on the attached screen
will it work to flash and root my Wildfire or just simply will brick it?

Using stock recovery will not flash cm7 or any other custom rom because simply you cant root the device with hboot 1.01.0001 , Froyo 2.2
You have the OTA update, nothing you can do for now unless Unrevoked supports HBOOT 1.01.0001 (which doesn't atm)
OK
I get it. But it simply asks for update.zip file... Does the RECOVERY check any signatures of the file or size before update?
I'm not only asking for rooting.I'd like at least flash any rom containig polish locales because WWE does not have it. I've tried RUU but I'm getting WRONG CLIENT ID error. If I've extracted rom.zip from RUU would it work to flash it this way?
the only way to flash a custom rom is with the HBOOT S-OFF. all that needs to be said.
Yes. I know. I was asking about flashing zip file extracted from shipped RUU but containig for example polish or chinese language and locales. I'am aware of S-ON limitations for rooting and I'm trying to return to polish firmware to sell my Wildfire and buy other one which I'll be able to root.

Signatures are always checked with stock recovery - no way to disable - as BarclayTech said no way for a custom rom.
Check link below and find a corresponding RUU to flash:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Buzz
Yeah! But which one contains polish locales. I've checked all WWE RUUs and nothing. Are there any descriptions of those RUUs from this site cause this is useless to flash and check all of them.

Just find the RUU with the same Android version and same Radio version that came preinstalled with your device.
Keep in mind that if your WF came with Eclair (Android 2.1) and you manually upgraded to Froyo (Android 2.2) OTA then follow link below to downgrade (HBOOT will not be overwritten)
I haven't tested this and nobody takes responsibility if your phone explodes
