I've been running Liquidsmooth's rom (switched straight from stock to v2.8 and then 2.9, switched from the default kernel to ktoonsez's, baseband UCUAMDL) and I've noticed, like a few others on the Q&A threads, that there is a problem with the call audio, particularly on incoming calls. I can never hear anyone who calls me, they can't hear me, and I have to always call them back.
I thought this was an issue with liquidsmooth, but it turns out there are folks on Task's rom with the same problem. I'm not sure if this seems to be an issue with all non-tw custom roms, but I was wondering if anyone figured out a solution to this.

These are CM10/aosp bugs and you will have to wait until these are resolved, I have been waiting for a year now...go figure.
For what its worth, I had absolutely no issues when running the Task650AOKP rom.

That's a pretty impressive wait time considering the phone has only been available for a few months. :cyclops:

If you lurk the dev thread for CM10.1, you'll see that they are very close to squashing this bug.

That's what I was thinking - I find it a little hard to believe that this problem is a year old, because I've had both the SII and SIII on a combination of task's or liquidsmooth's roms and they've worked fine.
I agree that it seems to be hit or miss. I definitely didn't anticipate the problem because I came straight from stock, full wipe/reset etc. For the people who are using task's rom, what baseband are you on? Does that even matter?

Me Too!
I ran a CM9 Rom for a couple weeks. Kinda neat, but not ready at all.
It kinda made me realize that I wish everybody with these mad skills would just go ahead and focus on JB.
The Milestone guys seem to be making pretty good progress on CM10. Makes me a bit jealous.
Of course, I'm just a leach...
Any hope for sooner than 2013, if any at all?
Thanks,
-KP
If you are looking for a stable CM9 ROM you might wanna check out rootzwiki.
This ROM is very stable and I have no trouble with it - http://rootzwiki.com/topic/18697-cyanogenmod-9-unofficialbeta-819/

That's the one I ran for 10 days or so. I had to bail out.
My phone ran slower, I missed the camera functioning properly (mine didn't work at all), "Clock" kept crashing, causing missed alarms and burnt pizza and I'm pretty sure Phone Mute didn't work. Plus the screen sensitivity wasn't nearly as good.
The saddest part was my nandroid backup failed md5 check going back to my well dialed in CM7 7.2.0 that I really had no problem with and I liked how well everything worked. I had to reinstall and start restoring from TB.
Maybe I'll try it again...
-KP
Strange that you had those issues. The only persistant one I've seen is the keyboard backlight being on all the time with Autobrightness, not being able to change the values, and the mute problem.
I was actually very impressed with the camera as the pictures are fine and Paper Camera works, which it did not on MIUI V4.
Guess we'll see what happens but my and other's suggestion to the devs on Rootz was just to focus on getting the current ICS Roms perfected rather than messing with JB and having to start from scratch knowing all the hardware issues that they are going to encounter. As I said there we have fully functioning Google Now, so the only benefit we might see would be Project Butter implementation and I don't think that's work the headaches.
Either ICS or JB is fine with me. Like I have some say in the matter...
But it seems like the appearance of the JB rom for the Milestone would mean that getting JB going on the D2 would follow along more simply.
Of course, CM7 runs really well on my phone. Angry Birds loads up quickly. My daughter plays Temple Run and doesn't complain about issues. I get some goofiness with the touchscreen while the charger is connected, but my D1 did that too.
In the 10 days I ran CM9, I got used to a couple ICS features that might have been better, but not that much. That I noticed anyway.
Bottom line, for me, is that if CM7 is as far as it goes, I have a good phone that I can roll down to my daughter later. But if ICS or JB worked really well, then all the fanboys I have to deal with would have to shut up...
Did I put all that in the right thread? Things are swirling together...

When I receive a call, or make a call, occasionally, the person on the other end can't hear me, always, when I/they call back and we do connect, they say they could hear me talking, but I could never hear them. This happens about once out of every seven or 8 calls, not a huge deal, but is quite frustrating if it is an important call.
Any ideas on the cause/resolution?
It seems to be an issue across aosp builds. I haven't looked into it although I've experienced it on 2 different aosp-based roms, both coming from full wipes. Issue began in July builds I believe.
4.3 is just around the corner. Don't sweat it.

This, so far has only happened to me with PAC-MAN rom, but I keep going back to it because of the customization possibilities it allows.
4.3 coming is a good point I hadn't processed yet. The last update from PAC-MAN was 7/30/13 as far as I can tell, maybe that a good sign they are working on a 4.3 update to the ROM.
:good:
There is already a PAC 4.3 alpha build on the I9505,so your wait shouldn't be too long. While you wait, there is a stable release on PAC that should have a fix for the audio issue merged in. Check the release folder instead I'd the nightly folder on their basketbuild site.

I've been getting an issue like that also but mainly on my side I thought it was just the service. Where I'd be on the phone talking about something important and the other person will cut in n out sometimes.

I don't have this issue on the 4.3 SlimBean test build I am running, so I would imagine it will be fixed in Pac shortly as well.
Goooood to hear about 4.3, anything neat coming with 4.3? I honestly haven't looked into it because I figured it would take a while to get ROM stable on it, but sounds like it's happening faster than I imagined.

It honestly looks the same to me, but it is a little snappier, and things are smoother. Some of the issues like the NFC wakelock is fixed, among other things. I don't know how Pac is coming along. To me, the Beta 1.2 I'm running is a stable daily driver. Expect Slim weeklies for jfatt soon.
I'm having the same issue with AOKP based rom

Being a relative newcomer to the Android and Smart Phone world, I wanted to comment on my experiences with my first step into this community.
The phone that I have is a Samsung Galaxy SCH-S950C that I purchased from Straight Talk about a year ago. While it is not necessarily common knowledge... this phone is identical to the Samsung Galaxy Fascinate SCH-I500. This particular model was made specifically for Straight Talk and is a CDMA phone running on the Verizon Towers.
For all practical purposes, when it comes to modifying this phone, you can simply treat it as a Verizon Fascinate and simply follow any existing guide for flashing custom ROM's. The only real difference is that if you ever wanted to go back to Stock for whatever reason.... there is an additional Stock Image for Straight Talk which I can point you towards if anyone needs it.
Since getting this phone, I have tried pretty much every modification you can think of because.... well to put it simply... playing with these things and testing their limits is a lot of fun
I have become "Flash Happy" and change ROM's on this phone every couple of days. Thanks to the Developers on this Forum.. I have had a nearly constant supply of new and interesting ROM's to play with. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. Some are more stable than others. A few are good for daily drivers and a few are a little too unstable for anything but experimentation with special features.
I have experienced every issue you can think of.... I have had my phone stuck in Boot Loops, been unable to flash anything due to Status 7 Errors, I have had the battery overheat, the Radio stop working, lockups, random reboots, and even pretty much bricked the phone.
Thanks to all the great people on this Forum.... I have always been able to find a way to recover from any issue and get my phone back to stock and start all over again.
So THANK YOU to all the members of this Forum and to all of the Developers that are still producing great work for this phone... such as HHP_211, Unjustified Dev, BBrad, Bdogg718, Notta, DerTeufel1980 and of course jt1134, you have provided me with an unending supply of fun things to do with this phone. And I thank you for all that you guys do for this community.
So which ROM do you find most enjoyable/stable ?

Most enjoyable..... I'd have to go with Domination simply because it has all the bells and whistles.... ton's of features to play with
Most Stable...... HellyBean. Never had any issues at all with it and it has quite a few bells and whistles as well.... I tend to keep going back to it as my daily driver because I keep running into glitches with all the others I've tried out...
Do you have any suggestions on where I can start to find a proper mod for this phone? I find the stock rom extremely unreliable.....crashing programs etc pretty often....and i am pretty new to fooling with them, but have a basic grasp of what i'm gonna be doing.
Well.... this forum is the place to start.... take a look through all of the ROMs listed in here and play around with a few of them. They all have their strengths. What works for one person may not work for another.... it all depends on what you like.
4.3 ROMs are a lot of fun to play with since they are the newest version of Android... however Data is really flaky on 4.3 so far. It is an issue that is being worked on so soon I think it will be stable... but it isn't really suitable for a daily driver quite yet unless 3G data is not important to you.
A lot of people say that 4.2.2 ROMs are too much for this phone to handle and are slow and buggy... however my experience tells me that they work just fine. I am a personal fan of HellyBean.... I have never had an issue with it... everything works the way that it should.... and at least for me... it runs very fast. But my best suggestion is to try a few out for yourself and pick the one you like.

I agree. I actually went back and tried Gummy ICS (had a bad experience with that after trying to change the boot animation. wouldn't boot up at one point at all). Since I have a VZW fascinate, i tried the EH03 Verizon build and oh god it's awful. eh03 is like ten times better than the eclair and froyo builds, but it's still really bad due to bloatware and Touchwiz. so i tried CM7 and wifi was actually really finicky. i was using glitch kernel but it was still strange. ICS and JB could hold a connection, even EH03 could, but not CM7 for some reason.
I have since moved to Hellybean and haven't looked back.

The Showcase came with Gingerbread 2.3.4.... In order to go back to stock... I actually Odin the Verizon EH03 package and then Odin a Straight Talk Image over that. Basically the same as the Verizon Fascinate Image but with some of the Bloatware removed and changes the Boot Animation to Straight Talk logo instead of Verizon.
I have a ATT Galaxy S4 NI1 that was running the stock ROM from ATT. This phone will randomly stop receiving calls and texts but I don't know that because the signal bar is still showing signal. I have read where a lot of people are having these issues after they did the latest ATT update. I decided that I would root the phone and install a new ROM. I put on the Goldeneye ROM and I am still having the same issues. I was hoping that by changing the ROM, that the problem would be fixed. Does anyone have any insight on how I can fix this or do you think this is a hardware issue? Thank you.
I did flash the NEXUS 4.4.4 ROM and things have worked for about 3.5 hours. We will see if it continues to work into the weekend.
It turns out that this didn't help and it's still losing signal even though it says it has signal.

And unfortunately there are quite a few threads reporting the same problem that go back for months. I havne't found one that actually had a working solution.
New sim card didn't help.
I'm pretty much giving up. This problem has been reported on numerous forums.... Different providers.... No one has come up with a solution or exactly what the problem is.
Samsung refuses to acknowledge the problem at all. $200 phone down the drain....
I did find a thread on reddit which had this pic of a service bulliten that was issued. Guess we're still waiting...
Title says it all actually!
Recently I've been having issues with my Note 4. I'll be in a perfect signal area, full signal everything firing on all cylinders...except when people call me I don't get the calls.
And attempting to call anyone back, results in my call sitting there counting down the timer until it times out and ends the call.
So I recently unlocked my Note 4 Retail bootloader (CID conversion). Rooted, and am running stock upgrade 5.1.1 which I grabbed from the Development section here for our phones.
Same deal as before.
Shame too, this phone is running so smoothly too, the best it ever has.
Have tried flashing stock FW through Odin 3.10.6, and not converting the CID or rooting, no dice.
Can't make phone calls, can't receive phone calls.
My sim card is fine as well, it was working about 4 or 5 days ago prior.
Didn't know where else to post this problem, have searched for hours (maybe in the wrong places?) and have no progress to show for it. This phone is my daily driver and I have no other, nor the cash to pay for a replacement from VZW right now.
Are there any settings I can change, or something I missed? Did I flash the wrong 5.1.1 upgrade file in Odin? I'll link to the one I used specifically.

I'm not sure if Paulpizz's OP was updated but I'm using his most recent update that is posted on page 7 of the thread. ROM is stable and clean. With Xposed installed I'd have to say it is the best ROM available. His ongoing support for the ROM is amazing. Just waiting for him to port some Note 5 features.

Hate this happened to you as well, but feel a bit relieved at least one other person has dealt with this.
I'll try wiping everything completely again and see what happens. But I'm pretty sure VZW have stopped service on my Note 4 in particular...
It's a long story no one is interested in, but I actually got my Note 4 for free from a relative.
I worked out a deal where I repaired and rooted a couple phones for him, and he gave me his old Note 4...which unfortunately he lost at work, received a replacement, then the old one turned up a week later on the job site he was working at...then gave that phone to me, so if anyone is familiar with similar situations such as this, that basically means the phone was blacklisted (lost or stolen list).
Can't get a new sim card for it either, that's how I found out about all this the other day. Got 8 months use out of it though...can't complain too much.
Longer story short, ended up spending my first paycheck from the new job on a Nexus 6 today, be here in a few days probably...
The Note 4 is going to be my media player though, due to sd-card slot and all .
Thanks for the replies everyone!
