Cracked digitizer - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I cracked the digitizer on my gs4, the outer gorilla glass is fine. The phone was in my pocket I have no idea how it happened.
I have cracked the outer glass on my old gs3 and was able to replace the glass.
I have AT&T and no insurance on the phone. What can I do? Does anyone sell a digitizer for the screen? Or will Samsung/AT&T do a repair on it? Anyone know how much it will cost?

It will cost around $100 -$200 with att. Buy a digitizer on amazon and find a repair guide on youtube. Cheapest option.

Ok, well, I called Samsung, surprised they took my call at 6 pm on a Sunday, and they gave me a prepaid shipping label to have it evaluated. I'm expecting to shell out upwards of $250 to have it fixed, but they made it sound like there's a chance it might be covered under warranty.

Cheap digitizer?

So today i dropped my vibrant. Screen cracked so im a sad panda . I really dont feel like dishing out 200-300 bucks to asurion to fix this, so im going to buy the parts i need and fix it myself.
What i need to know is, is it possible to just buy the glass part of the screen by itself? The screen and Digitzer both still work 100%, so the only thing bothering me are the ugly cracks. Are the digitizer lcd and glass plate only sold as one part? because i really dont want to dish out 70 bucks to fix a piece of cracked glass...
If they are only sold as one part, can someone link me to the cheapest one available? like is there anything under 60 bucks?
The deductible for T-Mobile customers should be $135 at the most

It isn't going to be 'Cheap'
And where did you get $200-$300 from asurion? It only costs like $135 like the other guy said..
Deductible is $130.
Get a body glove for your next phone, as well (dropped mine ~10 feet off a short ladder and it was fine in that case - not even a scratch).
I will spare you the what you should have done...
But searching here will find you plenty of similar threads...
The digitizer/glass/AMOLED is all one piece. No way to NOT replace the whole piece. Samsung will charge you $170 direct to replace BTW if you send it to them.
You can find some on EBAY of course some may or may not be AMOLED as one of the awesomely friendly sellers let me know of his own product.
I ended up picking mine up from a stateside seller, and it was $77 with overnight shipping (used a coupon code and google checkout). Missionrepair.com was the place.

Was it AMOLED or LCD (website says LCD)? How hard was the replacement? It may be worth the extra $30 to have them replacement.
I just pulled "your" deductible through Asurion here at my store. It's $130 and that includes express shipping so you'll have it pretty much overnight.

Hmm. You're supposed to have 1 year accidental damage included insurance. How and who did you contact at Acer?

Accident insurance cost extra here in the states.
These two are all that I can find on Ebay. Both are $155 usd shipped.
Unfortunately it is an assembly, lcd and digitizer. Hopefully you can simply find a digitizer for less.
Plus...
Either one will have to ship from China so the wait will be most likely be a long one.
OP, check your pm inbox .
mmh Thanx a lot guys. But i found just the digitizer on ebay for 99$. Im not a US resident so I do not have the luxury of getting awesome insurance plans. But still not sure if i can open the piece and replace it. .

Odd, not for me.
When I got mine I registered it online and I have 1 year of Accidental Damage insurance. I didn't pay anything extra for it.

[Q] Where to get font glass fixed/buy OEM part?

Wasn't sure if I should post this here or under accessories but since it's a question....
So my wife has her Sprint Samsung S4 for less than a week (contract renewal though Best Buy) and she already managed to break the front glass. The digitizer and LCD are OK.
Sprint wants $150 to fix it. Are there any other options while still getting a quality replacement? I'm up for giving it a shot if it's not terribly difficult and I can find a reputable dealer for an OEM replacement part.
Any suggestion on how/where to get the repair done cheaper? If not, does anyone know a reputable source for an OEM replacement part? It's hard to trust any of the eBay sellers without confirmation since most of the glass replacement items appear to be facsimiles.

It's ten bucks and compatible with our phone. (sph-l720) for ten percent of the cost of sprint fixing it, even if it is a cheap knockoff, it would probably be worth it.

Yeah I saw those but I really want to replace it with an OEM part (Gorilla Glass), otherwise I fear I'll have to do this more than once.
I do not recommend those kits at all. You will end up hating the phone...digitizer not working/unresponsive...bubbles...dust inside the screen, etc. In addition, the AMOLED screen below that cracked screen are attached together using a special kind of glue. You need to be extremely careful when removing the old screen...otherwise, you're going to end up cracking the AMOLED.
IMHO, your viable options:
1) Have a professional do it for you using LOCA (liquid optically-clear adhesive) glue to fuse the replacement screen to the AMOLED (just like how Samsung does it). Make sure you check the guy's references before deciding to have the guy do it. If he's really good, your phone should look and perform like new.
2) Replace the entire housing. You can buy new/like-new complete housings in ebay for about $100. This housing basically includes everything except for the phone motherboard. You simply move your old motherboard to the new housing. There are a few youtube S4 disassembly tutorials on how to do it. My favorite is this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm4f2XjQLAM
The price difference between #1 and #2 isn't much. Doing #2 guarantees that I have my screen as good as new. If you're lucky and you can find a guy who can do #1 for you the right way...you may get satisfactory results and may save you a few bucks.

Thanks for the info AlpineMan. If I can find a housing for this phone for $100 then I would prefer to go that route. You mean with LCD/digitizer/front glass/rear cover correct? Unfortunately I only see that for $200 ignoring stuff sent from China. Here's the search criteria I used: "complete s4 i9500 housing". I also tried with SPH-L720.
Search for Sprint Galaxy S4 housing.

Ouch

Dropped my naked & beloved Note3 onto the concrete.
Screen is cracked, wacom encoder still seems good (, but I'll test it more thoroughly tonight.)
Have any of you replaced (or used a repair service to replace) only the cover glass?
Comments on your experiences are welcomed - costs, places selling parts, bad experiences, things to watch out for, etc.

Ouchie! Bad! I'd say tongue in cheek, since it's gorilla glass, use gorilla glue... But that'd be bad.... I'd suggest a whole display assembly but have zero experience so can't say for sure.

First quote I got from a repair service is $190 "out the door". About $130 for the LCD+Wacom Digitizer+Glass assembly and $50+tax for labor.
I understand the issue is that the gorilla glass is glued to the digitizer, so repair shops regard the process of cover glass replacement to be too risky/involved to deal with.
Found a video on youtube of a guy doing it... he said something like "you've got to get the glass too hot to touch in order to melt the glue" and "it takes about 45 minutes to carefully remove the glass". Ugh.
Maybe I'll price out LCD assemblies and do the work myself... anybody know a reputable parts supplier that is NOT in Hong Kong / China / Taiwan ?

I dealt with (Etrade Supply) before and they are pretty good.
I once tried to replace my gorilla glass and it was a bad experience. The Digitizer part was so fragile I destroyed it lol.
so I had to buy a full LCD+Wacom Digitizer+Glass assembly. That was way back.
I think if you are willing to spend a $150 + your time to install it. mine as well buy a used Note 3 from Ebay they run now around $150 to $180.
Good luck to you Sir and sorry to hear what happened to your phone.

Thanks. I looked at a bunch of those LOCA gluing vids on youtube and started pricing things (both parts and used phones) last night, and came to pretty much the same conclusion.
I suppose I could buy a used phone and attempt the less expensive (glass replacement) repair method - if it succeded, I could resell either of the two. And there would be no reason to hurry the repair that way.
I'll get it squared away eventually. I'm hoping to find an OEM part number list someplace - I get the impression that there are a ton of grey/aftermarket replacement parts (eg non-laminated, untempered glass lens or even non-Wacom digitizers), and there are sellers that don't pay attention to those details (or just flat-out misrepresent junk as something else).

Samsung Galaxy S8 Screen Replacement

Hello,
I have managed to be an idiot once again and break the screen on my S8, it's cracked and doesn't respond to touch.
I need it replaced and I am considering all options.
I am thinking of buying a replacement screen together with a precision tool kit and doing the repair myself by following some videos on youtube.
Getting it repaired by a professional may be more trouble then it's worth.
Has anyone replaced the screen on this phone? I am looking for any tips or wise words. Is there a forum I can ask more detailed questions about the repair?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I have replaced in official service center for 280$ including service and new frame and after replacement it's still watter resistent i tested in pool
Thats why you get insurance when you buy a delicate phone like S8. I broke screen of my S8+ but thankfully had the insurance. Repair centre gave an estimate of 235$ but due to insurance i paid just 10$
There was no insurance in my country
I should have at least had a protective case on the phone. What can I say I was a bit of an idiot.
I am particularly worried about putting it together myself, mainly applying the adhesive correctly. I would really like the phone to stay water resistant.
FROM our China. to insurance i paid just 9$
It's really cheap.
