Mf9 random boot loop - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Twice now, my phone on mf9 freezes, vibrates twice and restarts. Stock plus root, twrp recovery.
First was ota Rom, then I downloaded the stock plus root zip and installed. So maybe there's something wrong with mf9?
I was just playing music on Bluetooth when it happen this time. Bout loop constantly, Only way to fix is to wipe data. I hate that. And I don't push over old data, made no changes to system but hotspot mod.

I have a question, when i root and upgrade to 2.2, i did a system wipe and thats what caused it. If i root and keep 2.1, will it kill my system again or do i have to keep reflashing stock when i wipe the handheld?

if your "wiping" means your wiping with clock work mod ( the screen you boot into when flashing roms).. Then yes.. This wipe is ONLY for formatting everything.. Os included .....
If your looking to do a security wipe (done before selling a handheld) there is a factory reset option in settings/ privacy/ factory reset..

agai i have 2.2 leak, but i was doing the privacy factory reset and it was making me restore my whole phone back

That my be because the froyo leak is defective in that area, or because the phone tries to reset to its current legit rom..
but as long as your stock it I would think it should work, unless maybe the cwm causes it.
But if you mess up again you can always odin the full d101 package again.. which also formats all user data so your end result would be what you are looking for.

MIUIv4 Messaging App

I had already flashed to 2.4.13 before realizing that sms wasn't working and I am having a very hard time getting back to 2.4.6 without any problems. At first all I did was wipe cache and dalvik and then flashed 2.4.6 over 2.4.13 but ran into a whole mess trying to get that to work.. should that be possible without completely wiping data and doing a factory reset? I somehow ended up in a recovery bootloop and after trying EVERYTHING including odin an old CWM trick I found under the development section I spent about 5 hours getting it right to odin back to stock in order to get back to a nandroid backup of 2.4.13. Now I successfully made it to 2.4.6 but I can't for the life of me get the messaging app to work.. it keeps force closing. I tried uninstalling it and reflashing the ROM but that didn't work either. I'm going to try to extract the apk from the zip and manually install it over the current one, but if that doesn't work does anyone have any ideas? Am I just going to gave to do a complete data wipe? (I'd really like to avoid that I use a lot of apps.. its a pain to restore all of them with TB). Anyway i'd appreciate some help and sorry I'm not allowed to post in the MIUI thread yet bc of 10 post minimum requirements? so I had to post this here.
Thank you kindly

Ahh I apologize I just realized there was a separate Q&A section.. anyway still looking for advice if I just have to do a data wipe and start all over or not.
Thanks again!

Soo I've been with xda for about a year but haven't used the forum myself much except for reading and links, and again I apologize for posting in the wrong section.. it's a lot clearer when i'm on my laptop vs. the xda app
I'm just going to do a full data wipe/reset to make this easy (well, sort of ).. but thank you anyway and thank you for understanding...
I guess we all have to learn somehow, right? Hope it's cool
try clearing data of the messaging app. if it still doesn't work then wipe data for everything and start over.

Please Help: error when attempting to delete nandroid backup

I believe I've had this problem in the past with other android devices but I don't recall how I solved it.
Basically I unlocked, rooted, and flashed CWN using the nexus tool kit (I am very capable of using adb just felt like simplifying). I then made a nandroid backup using the CWM that the tool kit flashed. Later, i updated to CWM touch with Rom manager. I don't think the new CWM caused this but for some reason i am unable to delete that first nandroid i made. I've made other backups since and have had no problem deleting them, it's just this first one that i made that isn't deleting for some reason. Any ideas? It's pretty much just dead weight on my storage at this point.

Shouldn't be posting this question in dev section but anyway Thanks to Phonic you can flash this zip and it will delete the entire CWM backup folder http://core.routed.com/CWM_Backup_Wipe.zip

As stated above this doesn't belong in Development and honestly this question is getting old.
See my most recent reply HERE which answers the question that was at least asked in an appropriate thread.
You need to flash the file you were linked to above and now that you have an "official" recovery installed the issue shouldn't happen again.
Sorry if I sound snarky but we have a nice new device and nice clean easy to browse and keep up with threads. It would be great if people just followed the rules to keep them that way.

Tried the Q &A, no reply... And yet you replied right away. Thanks
And yet had You Searched Q&A you would have had your answer immediately. Hmm'
A simple "please don't post this in this section" would suffice. Save the smart ass comments.

Unable to install PA on device

Can anyone help me please, I have posted this on the PA thread but have had no response
I am unable to install PA on my nexus.
I have rooted and unlocked my device via the nexus root kit, downloaded the latest TWRP and installed this on my device. Moved PA and GAPPS to my storage and flashed PA first and then GAPPS, wiped dalvik and reboot the device. All that happens is the ROM doesnt appear to want to flash on the device as it reset my nexus back to factory settings but never installed the ROM.
I have also attempted this with goomanager but get stuck in a bootloop after install
However, I have been able to download and install CWM and CM10 so I know there is no issue with the device.
Can anyone provide any insight as to why this may be happenening
Have you verified the md5 of your download?
Also, patience is a virtue. Believer or not, some questions aren't always answered in mere minutes, as most folks have lives outside of the forum. I know waiting can seem unreasonable at times, but the timespan between you asking in the PA thread and then starting this completely new thread asking the same question was less than twenty minutes.

You left out the most important step in switching from one ROM to another... As mentioned in several tutorials and posts:
WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET before flashing ROM...

It helps but for the last 3 different roms I've thrown onto my n7 I haven't done that, All I've had to do was wipe my caches.

Wiping caches is unnecessary. New cache is built upon first boot.
You might have gotten away without wiping data if the bases for your ROMs were similar. Paranoid requires a wipe coming from most other ROMs.
Also you run the risk of corrupting your settings and app databases when you don't wipe data between different ROMs

[HELP] Hi not sure where to post really..

Hello there, Not sure where to post and most rules here state to post in the general forum, so here I am
I currently have the following:
Model Number: GT-I9505 Samsung Galaxy S4 (GSM)
Android Version: 4.2.2
Baseband: I9505XXUAMDM
Kernel: 3.40-526204
Build: JDQ39.I9505XXUAMDM
The device is now rooted thanks to the following guide: http://androidjinn.com/root-xxuamdm-android-4-2-2-on-galaxy-s4-i9505-official-firmware.html/2
Rooted using Odin and the CF-Autoroot or so that guide says.
Now down to what I need help with, I want to play with a few different roms however before I do anything, I want to backup my phones current Rom on the off chance I mess it up I presume this would prevent a majority of bricks?
What advice can you give? Just wanna make sure I have a safe point before I do any more to the device.
YES I DID SEARCH, It didn't help so if you're a stuck up arsehole who wants to moan that I haven't searched, Please don't post.
Thanks for the help guys!
You need to install a custom recovery. Search for recovery and your model number.

Thankyou for your reply, Can you reccomend a specific one based on expirence? My friends uses clockwork on his S2 with Cyanogen, I ideally want to head towards that as there is a version for the S4 as far as I'm aware but not the foggiest on where to start. Will look up Clockwork for my model number now tho, thanks.
Kind Regards,
Phil
I use Philz Touch (search on here) then go to the backup and restore settings and choose what you want from there. Whatever you do, backup to the external SDcard and if possible Copy the backup to an external source. Just in case. .......

Philz Touch is device specific so make sure to choose the right one for your device

I would suggest to download Rom manager from the playstore. With this APP you can install CWM. It is the best recovery IMO. Hope that helps you

My vote goes for Philz too, I like it.

So I went ahead and ****ed my device up
I can still boot into CWM and have attempted to use my recovery I made however this just makes the phone get to the boot logo and then freezes.
If I do a factory reset and wipe cache etc the phone just show the battery charging logo, gonna leave it on charge over night and see if it was maybe a battery issues.
Either way can anyone give me any idea on how I can get my phone back into working order
Thanks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477&highlight=stock+firmware
Is that guide appplicable to me?
Also should I do the entier process, or attempt this method first for the boot loop I seem to have gotten myself stuck in:
Bootloop troubleshooting: Bootloop occurs when a smartphone is not able to boot properly and stuck on Bootanimation and mainly caused by system files interfering with each others which cause instability and/or crash at the boot sequence. How to fix:
- Boot the device either into stock or custom recovery mode, wipe cache then reboot, if still, boot again in recovery and wipe data/factory reset then reboot. If not:
- Restore a nandroid backup with custom recovery if present. If not:
- Flash or reflash the official stock firmware. If not:
- Flash stock firmware with the appropriate pit file, after "pass", unplug usb cable, pull battery out for a minute, insert it, boot into recovery, wipe data and cache, reboot.
Thanks
Also does any know where I can the offical firmware for my model?
Cheers
I9505 ROMs Collection: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252855&highlight=collection
Well Its on and running, however I cant use the play store as I keep getting an inssufincent storage error What would peoples advice be?
Is following this guide the best way to get the phone back and normal, As it should have **** tons of space! there is hardly anything showing
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477&highlight=stock+firmware
then after that rooting it again?
Will it then be all back to normal?
Will doing that remove CWM?
Thanks
Please can an admin Move this to the Q & A section.
Thanks
I'v decided to follow the guide for restoring the phone to standard! I have followed the steps listed on the tutorial, however when I get to step I can't find home.tar all that is inside the zip file is this:
I9505XXUAMDM_I9505OXXAMDB_I9505XXUAMDM_HOME.tar.md5
SS_DL.DLL
Do I just select the I9505XXUAMDM_I9505OXXAMDB_I9505XXUAMDM_HOME.tar.md5 in odin under the PDA button?
Just want to double check incase I cause any damage to the phone!
Thanks guys
Correct.
Thankyou for the reply, I shall flash this bad boy when I get home!
Once she has been flashed to basics should I then use the CF auto root followed by installing philz recovery?
Or will CWM still be on the device?
Sorry for the noobish questions, Years of rocking IOS have not tought me well.
You'll lose CWM. I went the CFRoot--->>>PhilZ route when I got my I9505 a couple of weeks ago, there are other options here, so it's up to you how you proceed.
