Hey Guys!
Just a quick question, I was wondering if there are any working external USB wifi adapter for android, specifically for the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet. Most of the thread I find have no straight answer. The wifi adapter on the inside is busted as the wifi kept switching on and off on its own and its getting really frustrating, the lenovo guys says its not worth the repair as it cost too much and Im off warranty on this thing already.
I've seen this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721976
but its a bit too vague for me to follow as In not really good with this :C
Ive seen this article as well which seems like its working on a plug and play basis but Im not really sure whether the guys have made any mod to the tablet.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Ok I have STFA and I did find the method to wi-fi tether (and was able to WI-FI tether my G2xand the wife's SGs4g to the TF101) . Still I am looking for a way to tether my phone to the TF101 via USB. Wi-fi is ok, but it chews battery, and I just dont feel its as secure either. I noticed that I can connect my G2x to the TF101 via USB and it will see the external SD card, but it will not see the internal storage of the phone and under the settings tab the USB tether option is greyed out and cannot be activated.
Since I am still kinda a noob to Android devices I need to lean on those that have a much better knowledge than myself on subjects like this.
Do any of you know if it is possible (or can be made possible) to find and install drivers that would allow USB tethering between Android devices? I have an LG G2x (P-999) the wife has a Samsung Galaxy S 4g and both phones (running Froyo) and the TF101 are rooted -- the only one with a custom ROM is the transformer (Prime 1.5 Honeycomb) the phones are strictly rooted and deodexed (so far, not to say that won't change in the future)
Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for any insight into this dilemma.

Welcome Crockashat,
Why do you want to tether via USB? It kind of defeats portability doesn't it? Just asking...
FYI, Just today XDA-Dev Transformer added a Q&A section where your post may get better attention.

Because hes probably using the dock with the Transformer and he doesn't see a reason why not to "USB tether" it?

Really? To a phone? I don't get it...
You can't expect Windows level driver support with Android. I don;t think you can find proper drivers for it yet.

Before Wi-Fi tethering, people used USB. Even now some may prefer it because wi-fi tethering kills the phone battery very quickly. Little over a year ago (before I got my Galaxy S) even I used to tether my old Nokia over USB to my notebook when travelling because of battery issues.

I guess I understand about the battery drain. I just can't get by the wires... Seems so yesterday... lol
Main reasons are-> battery drain, & also reliability/security
Thanks for the replys, Yes the main reason is chewing up the phones battery, and its hard to say which is more secure a wi-fi network or cell networks, but when it comes to reliable connections -- hardwiring wins hands down.
I don't know if these would be considered window's level drivers, I have read where a few have managed to use PUTTY to modify their USB cellular dongles (which are windows based devices) to be compatible with the A-TF, where I am trying to use an Android based smart phone, not sure, not my area of expertise.
I bought the transformer for my wife, but the more I have used it, the more I think I may be able to use one in place of a laptop for work most of the time. My line of work sends me into alot of noisy (EMI) areas and wi-fi connections can be kinda flaky due to the amount of similiar frequencies being brodcasted at a higher signal strength than a typical cell phone/netbook wi-fi signal being used, it does also effect cell phone signals as well but nowhere near as bad as wi-fi signals. Don't get me wrong it is nice to be able to tether over wi-fi as well, I havent done it yet but the auto-tether app where I can connect without even having to pull my phone out of pocket is something I do want.
I have to carry around too much crap already, and if I can reduce some size and weight by finding a way to get this to get the USB tethering option to work between an Android based smart phone and the Asus Transformer, it would be great.
I am still looking for information on the docking connector pin out for the Iconia A500. If anyone has ANY info on where I might get that information please let me know or send a PM. I want to bring a Docking Cable / BreakOut box to market.
Let me know!!!
Thanks in advance!
sanaell seems to be someone who might know of, of have access to, that kind of information.
I don't know for sure of course, but a PM wouldn't hurt.
Good luck!
I am not able to give the information at this moment because my external hard drive who contained some precious document get some diving lesson and is learning how to speak with the fishes....
"simple version, my external hard drive fall in the ocean"
I try to get my documentation as soon as possible....
haaa my gosh... I was so happy to find back a save,.....
A501... oh... A...amiga....
Buy the doc take it apart and fallow the leads and some testing might give you the answers. Don't think Acer would do so.
Hmmm....

Documentation if I can get it, beats purchasing something that everyone says doesn't do enough for a docking station and taking it apart, and tracing leads and hoping I don't short something. I'm hoping to give us Iconia users More functionality, and not duplicate the foibles of and overpriced, an underspecified POS.
Should I not be able to Get said docs, I will undoubtedly get one and destroy... for scientific purposes...That docking connector on ourA500 Has to do more than what the current dock can do...
if we can get the pinout id sure love to do some stuff with it. Being an ee major I'm always looking for stuff lie this to do. I hope it comes before my summer ends.
What can the port do
If somebody has found this info, please post!
I'm anxious to see what that port is actually capable of. The dock Acer has now is pretty lame. It can only charge, pass out audio, and maybe HDMI (there seems to be conflicting info on this, trying to get to the bottom of it).
Surprised there's no USB on it.
Just saw the dock for the Toshiba Thrive... would love to see if Acer could ever release a proper dock like that one.
Thought id just drop by and post this. I opened my dock last night. You can clearly see where a HDMI port and controller would go, also a microcontroller for the IR input.
The plug is a 40 pin plug.

I've been working on reverse engineering it, this is the thread I've put my stuff in:

Power up tablet throught dock port
Anyone knows if it's possible to send a signal to power up (as if you push the power button) to power up the tablet?
I know that they have a powerbutton on the remote but i don't know how to do it to start it.
Thanks!
Good Luck...this beast needs a dock
My first tablet was a wifi Xoom that I got the speaker dock for it. Use that as your starting point. That dock could do it all, it has hdmi out on the back and the speakers are built in the dock. I,am sure you want to be able load data also, plus look good holding your tablet. This one tablet that could use some serious love on decient accessories. If you can bring it too market I,ll check it out... I know I passed on Acer Portfolio case the leather like clips to hold my tablet looked weak as hell. For $39.99 from BestBuy they could kiss my butt on cheap ass crap, I wont be buying it. I a truck driver by trade and I,ve always spent lots of cash on gear for the road that's light, portable & durable. That Xoom I mention earlier, is in the hand of tech savy 8yr old. talk about geek 2.0, which she choose too root before the update. Now she switches themes whenever the mood hits. (Just like a Women) I myself would like to see what could out of the colabiration in the forums. So if there any thing I could do too help let me know...bye for now.
Dear All,
I know this has been asked countless times already, but I was wondering if the Samsung S3 USB connection kit would work with the N10.
I've seen the OTG cables and seemingly these work without a problem, but I find the cable to be a bit sloppy visually
and would like something a bit more discrete.
(edit)
I'm unable to post outside links on account of being a new member and all.
But If you put: "Mobile Fun Connection Kit for Samsung Galaxy S3 / Note 2" in google images it'll be the first ones to pop up.
There's a demo vid on youtube as well.
It seems to work great for the S3 and I don't see a reason why it would not work with the N10, but I wanted to be sure before actually purchasing.
ps. this was my first post so if I put it in the wrong forum or whatnot, Mods please do correct me.
Many thanks in advance,
K!P
That doesn't look discreet at all.
I don't see why it wouldn't work, but why not spend $1 on an OTG cable and have access to all the same features?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
err yeah! as blueback said, thats not descreet!
It will work as the micro sd card reader i made for my nexus 10 also works in my friends s3. There are better things out there though
Great,
Many thanks for the reply guys.
Indeed, discrete may not be the right word.
But I find it looks a bit cleaner.
I just find a loose cable a bit sloppy, hanging to the side.
This just goes a bit more with the lines of the device and plus it has the micro SD etc.
Me thinx me shall order this.
I'm actually still waiting for my N10 to arrive.
Paid a hefty premium on Ebay and still have to wait 2 weeks for delivery.
Thanks again for the input guys.
Much appreciated.

Hey guys!
I never like to start a new thread but I thought it would be a better thing to do.. I'm frantic about USB OTG working seamlessly on my nexus 4.. Where I live, i.e., in India we just can't get the appropriate cable required for ubs otg to work with nexus 4... When I search on ebay.in the cable is quite costly, like 16USD.. And even then I'll have to buy a portable battery pack so that I can connect any usb drive with my nexus 4.. Which will be costly as well! But while I was researching about Moto G for my friend I found this in the moto G forums.. http://www.meenova.com/ Could this work?! I'm guessing probably it won't! but I'd be very happy if someone could get this to work!
That's probably a hardware issue. Since it says for the GNex that other software is required.
Sent from my Nexus 4, want to know my current project? Check http://team-fun.eu
Hi guys. So I'm considering buying a Wileyfox Storm because of the price/value ratio.
There's not much information that can be found about the phone regarding it's OTG support on the internet. Some comparison sites imply NOT, and other sites have something cryptic like USB OTG (TBC). LIKE WHAT?! For that matter, there's not that much info and support for the device at all, nevermind any nongeneric cases or covers.
Anyway since I couldn't find a definite answer, I wanted to ask the actual owners of the Storm if their device supports OTG if they've ever tried it. And if you haven't ever tried testing it, would you mind doing so?
Thanks guys!
I installed USB OTG Checker which showed my Storm has the USB OTG API. However I can't test for USB OTG Kernel or Driver Signal as I don't have a USB OTG cable or adapter at the moment. Hoping to borrow one or buy one in the next few days. Will let you know the outcome.
Regards.
Brian
I received my £0.99 OTG USB adaptor in the post from an eBay seller today and it works. With ES File Explorer or Solid Explorer it shows the contents of my memory stick and I can read text files, etc.
So the answer to your question is yes the Storm does support OTG.

Hi Brian,
That's fantastic! I really can't thank you enough for taking the effort of experimenting the OTG feature on the Storm :good:.
If you don't mind I'd also like to know your thoughts on the device and if you'd recommend it. From what I've understood is that the battery is probably the biggest disadvantage in the phone, but how ''bad'' is it actually? How often do you have to charge your phone under a certain usage?
And also I don't know if you use it for gaming, but if you have done so, does it perform decently?
Thanks mate!

I've had my Storm since Christmas and I am generally pleased with it these days. The last OTA update made a big difference to the reliable operation of mine after a bit of a wobbly start but I have read that others have had a few hardware problems along the way. I don't know if it is still the case but I haven't seen any new complaints recently. If you are going to buy SIM free I would play safe and get one from somewhere like Amazon who have good returns policy if you do happen to get a "lemon".
My previous phone was a gen 1 Moto G running Cyanogenmod and battery life with my Storm is equally good but then I am a very light user and I can get about 2 days out of a full charge. However if I run Google Maps for my daily commute the battery goes down quite quickly which I suppose is due to that big display being on all the time but probably no worse than my Moto G was. The Storm is quite responsive but I've never used it for gaming so you wll have to ask others about this on this forum. The Cyanogen Mod forum is also worth reading through:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/forum/1212-wileyfox-storm-kipper/
I'm very pleased with mine for what I need it to do but like others are saying we do need a decent case for it.
Hope this helps.

That was pretty helpful thanks. I'm stuck in a dilemma now. It's either going to be the Storm or the OnePlus X (roughly the same price).
The OP X does rock the more powerful Snapdragon 801, however the bigger screen, front facing camera flash and 32 GB of internal storage on the Storm seem to be dragging me towards it immensely.
Also the OP X has loads of support and threads going for it while the Storm seems to be nearly dead on the internet.
Which would you honestly get if you were phoneless and had to choose one of the two?
It is early days for the Storm but Wileyfox the company seem to be more intent on pushing the brand and new sales rather than nurtering and building up a strong reputation. In theory Wileyfox being UK based should have the better customer service but many people haven't found this.
The OP X has as you say a strong following and seems a better phone than it's earlier models with a more straight forward means of purchasing it these days. I like Cyanogen having used it for many years on several mobiles but I don't know much about Oxygen OS on the OP X? OP phones have been on the market longer, hence have sold more phones and consequently there will be more information on the internet. I think they have had their share of hardware problems in the past but perhaps this is the risk you take with good value mobiles like these.
One of the things at the top of my list was what to do in the event of a hardware problem and I thought with a few retails here in the UK and Amazon stocking the Storm it might be a safer bet and I have read on here about people returning their phones to Amazon at least once. When I bought my Storm at Christmas I was also looking at the LG G3 (i think it was that one) which was on special offer but went for the Storm mainly from the reviews I'd read. Although I am perfectly happy with the Storm reading other posts on here makes me wonder at the longevity of the Storm but this is probably the case with the OP X too. Only time will tell.
I wouldn't want to advise on which one to choose but perhaps make a list comparing the things important to you and then follow your heart. At least that way if you are unfortunate enough to have problems you will know that you made the best decision at the time.
Good luck.
Brian
