Nandroid Backup Restore Data Question - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Quick question folks. If I do a nandroid backup with my current ROM and later on flash and move over to a new ROM, while I have issues if I restore data from that backup?

It can cause problems to emerge if you restore just data from your nandroid onto another ROM. If that is what you are talking about.

I was in clarks rom in mdl I backed up my data and went to 2 mf9 roms and I restored my data on the first one and it work then I backed up my data on that and went to sacs rom and restored my data and everything thing has been working flawless with me. People say it's bad it'll cause a brick. I know it happens if I go from TouchWiz to aosp but if you go from a Touchwiz rom to a touchwiz rom you'll be ok

Yeah you can do it, but then if you run into a problem. You cannot say it is the ROM because you restored data from another ROM , or earlier version which is equivalent to dirty flashing. Makes it harder to identify the source of a problem, if you were to run into one.

[Q] Rom Toolbox Pro issues?

Just checking to see if anyone is using Rom Toolbox pro and if they noticed any issues restoring data for applications.
Maybe this is an issue as I am trying to restore data from my HTC EVO 4g LTE to my new S4 but I would think that it would work on at least one or two applications. I'm running the updated MDL updates, rooted using CH and TWRP recovery. I installed Rom Toolbox PRO to restore all my backups from my EVO. The applications restore perfectly. However it gives an error trying to restore any data. Just says data restore failed.
Anyone been able to restore data from another phone using this method? I've never encountered this going across other platforms before.
I am having a similar problem
I am having similar issues too. But in my case, I am not able to restore on my own device. I have backed up my app+data on my Nexus 4 running 4.2.2 Paranoid Android ROM. But I am not able to restore it on the 4.3 PA ROM.
I have emailed Jared Rummler about this, and one of the staff member replied hinting that there may be a fix in the next version that might come sometime next week.
Did anyone else face the same problem?

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that MDL does not have apps2sd functionality? Maybe it would work better with MF9. Probably not the issue but figured I would throw that out there.
I am on mdl and tried restoring when I went to blue kuban, no dice. Lame

rom toolbox is pretty much non functional for me so i ended up deleting it. i prefer titanium

System update downloaded Touch to install.

I notice an icon at the top I've never seen before.
Now in notifications, I see:
System update downloaded
Touch to install.
Anyone know what this is about?
I sure this is going to break my modded setups, yes?
I also got this notification this morning.
I'm on a custom recovery running stock rooted mdl still.
Sort of wondering if I should run titanium backups and also a nand backup and give it a shot. - but I'm not sure how risky that is.

Look up Mf9 been all over the forums for over a week. And if you have a custom recovery it won't install.

Okay - yeah I realized it was out there, just didn't realize this message waseven seenon non-stock seeps and was tested and fails on custom recovery.
Is flashing just the mf9 over Odin like in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2338919 considered the easiest way (still backing up before hand).

it's the latest MF9 update...it was announced a few weeks ago, but is being rolled out in waves...you just happened to be part of the recent wave
This update allows Apps2SD and makes it much smoother and better controls the RAM...i have a lot more free ram than before with the same setup and it runs much more smooth

4.4 Stock Kernel Question?

Is the stock kernel available for Kitkat? I thought about trying another kernel but hat the thought of having to restore a backup or fish the factory image again. I am running stock rooted Kitkat

Its the wrong section mate. But here is the stock one. I made a flashable zip. Should work.
Sorry man. Thank you though. I didn't pay enough attention. Hopefully a mod can move this.

The above link works just fine, but in adition I would recomend you to check Nexus Root Toolkit, from our member WugFresh. It has you covered in pretty much anything you can do with your nexus device regarding flashing, restoring, backuping , etc...

Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app

problems after recovery restore with swiftkey and evernote

I searched everywhere and still can't find anything. I backed up my stock rom. Flashed to cm 11 didn't like it so I restored to my back up. Now these apps don't want to work. Evernote won't sync my notes. And swiftkey won't download the English pack rendering it useless. Tried to download and reinstall no help. Please help this stock keyboard is awful
I had the same issue. I had to flash the stock rom and lose root to fix. Follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2657447
You wouldn't happen to have memory card issue also do you? If so The problem won't go away unless you do this. If can reroot after and you'll be fine unless you flash a asop rom again.
