[Q] Rom Toolbox Pro issues? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Just checking to see if anyone is using Rom Toolbox pro and if they noticed any issues restoring data for applications.
Maybe this is an issue as I am trying to restore data from my HTC EVO 4g LTE to my new S4 but I would think that it would work on at least one or two applications. I'm running the updated MDL updates, rooted using CH and TWRP recovery. I installed Rom Toolbox PRO to restore all my backups from my EVO. The applications restore perfectly. However it gives an error trying to restore any data. Just says data restore failed.
Anyone been able to restore data from another phone using this method? I've never encountered this going across other platforms before.

I am having a similar problem
I am having similar issues too. But in my case, I am not able to restore on my own device. I have backed up my app+data on my Nexus 4 running 4.2.2 Paranoid Android ROM. But I am not able to restore it on the 4.3 PA ROM.
I have emailed Jared Rummler about this, and one of the staff member replied hinting that there may be a fix in the next version that might come sometime next week.
Did anyone else face the same problem?

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that MDL does not have apps2sd functionality? Maybe it would work better with MF9. Probably not the issue but figured I would throw that out there.

I am on mdl and tried restoring when I went to blue kuban, no dice. Lame

Re Root

I rooted with Ñ7 one click tool back when JB 44.1.1 ruled and all was well, Titanium Backup ran we'll. A few upgrades later later TB still runs well but I just tried unsuccessfully to install stick mount and Locksreen Policy only partially works asking if I have root. I ran Root Checker Basic and it says I don't have proper root.
So, can and should I use another root technique on top of the old one?

Flash that in Recovery http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
Flashed the above, still no root and TB stopped working /no root/. Flashed 3.13 and TB is again working.

No clue I have and would never use a utility on a Nexus for ANY reason. What did you do to make it lose root?

Nandroid Backup Restore Data Question

Quick question folks. If I do a nandroid backup with my current ROM and later on flash and move over to a new ROM, while I have issues if I restore data from that backup?
It can cause problems to emerge if you restore just data from your nandroid onto another ROM. If that is what you are talking about.

I was in clarks rom in mdl I backed up my data and went to 2 mf9 roms and I restored my data on the first one and it work then I backed up my data on that and went to sacs rom and restored my data and everything thing has been working flawless with me. People say it's bad it'll cause a brick. I know it happens if I go from TouchWiz to aosp but if you go from a Touchwiz rom to a touchwiz rom you'll be ok

Yeah you can do it, but then if you run into a problem. You cannot say it is the ROM because you restored data from another ROM , or earlier version which is equivalent to dirty flashing. Makes it harder to identify the source of a problem, if you were to run into one.

Deleting backup assistant plus

What are the files you need to delete to completely eliminate backup assistant plus? Disabling it was greyed out. I have root access.

I used titanium backup to delete all the bloatware. Has anyone else went through after root and deleted all the bloatware and Verizon apps?
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Guessing no one else has deleted bloatware off their device
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
I flashed clean Rom which has most of the bloatware removed. Them weren't and froze/deleted a few other services I didn't want. Runs like champ ?
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Well I didn't pay for the premium version of geranium so I couldn't freeze. Only option was to uninstall. I haven't installed a Rom yet. I'm satisfied with stock just needed to remove the bloat and get hotspot working.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Clean Rom is stock, just without the bloat. Be weary of uninstalling system apps. From what I understand, you won't be able to update the OS if you're missing any of the system apps....at least that's how it was when I ran moto devices.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Well Damn didn't realize that I wouldn't get updates. I've been reading so many threads about people messing up their phones. Not ready to plunge into a Rom yet. I do like stock. Have removed everything I don't want. As it stands now, if I want an OTA I'll just factory reset in the menu then take it.

yea a lot of peeps have messed up their phones because they flashed the wrong rom (ie; rom was for a different model). I was one of them i downloaded a rom that said it was for the verizon G2 but it wasnt. i was able to recover my phone. i finally found the correct version of the rom i originally tried to use and flashed it and all is well now

Please Read.

Does anyone know if there is a aosp 4.3 rom for the sprint galaxy s4 that is pretty stable and has the option to update prl and profile.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm going to say no. Currently I don't know of any aosp roms that allow you to update prl or profile. This is true on Samsung and HTC phones.
Same. I don't know of any. Just make a backup, flash a two ROM, update PRL/profile, then restore your backup.

Yea, that's exactly what I do. I swap back and forth between Negalite and Carbon and keep them both up to date. If I'm on the aosp Rom I just restore the tw image, do the update prl or flash a custom one then restore back to aosp. Less than 30 minutes total.

[Q] 4.3, Rooted, unable to connect to Kies3. I need to back up/restore

I'm trying to back up my device with Kies before I factory reset it so I can take it back in for warranty replacement but I'm not able to connect to it. It shows it connected but then times out with an error saying "unable to connect".
I'm curious if this has anything to do with being rooted or having the OTA update files frozen with TiBu.
Any other ideas on to how to back up my device?
Can't you just copy over nandroid files or something?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Correct me if I'm wrong but I would have to be rooted on the new device for nandroid to restore the back up, right?
My main concern is my connection to Kies. It connects and then disconnects because the phone "isn't respinding". Is it because I'm rooted and have the OTA files frozen? Is my 4.3 release not official enough for it to be compatible with the newer version of Kies? Curious if anyone else is having this problem..

Kies never worked well for me. And unfortunately, there is no good way to backup an android device as easily as an Apple device. I'm assuming you'd like to have an easy way to restore your new device once you receive it. That isn't going to happen
Samsung/at&t have also made it more difficult. You'll probably get a new device with nb1 firmware which currently isn't rootable. So restoring from titanium is going to be difficult.
Here's what I would do:
1 copy and paste all your pictures, music, etc from your device to your pc
2 use helium backup to backup your apps and data, see play store
3 make sure you have Google backup your apps and data too, settings, backup & restore
When you get your new device, Google will most likely restore your apps and data. For your pics, etc you'll want to copy those back to your device. If Google doesn't work you have helium as a backup.

Don't forget you can also use adb backup to backup your device.

Thanks for the replies.
I had a general idea of what needed to be done. What I'm really worried about reloading is my sms/mms messages.
I'll look into all these options and report back with what I did.
