[Q] [MB526] Does not install Recovery bootloader - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i have rooted my phone with success. Managed to change it to 2.2 and back to 2.3.5 but both Clockworkmod recovery and 2ndInit does not install as bootloader (pressing power on + vol down key).
I always get the original android bootloader.
Any clue on how to bypass it and install the bootloader so I can install CM10 ?
ty

I see you're n00b. So first I suggest you to read Defy begginers guide. 2nd - defy bootloader is locked, so you can't replace stock bootloader & recovery. So we bypassing it via 2ndinit & 2ndboot. 3rd - you can install custom rom via 2ndinit.apk.

Hello,
"turffe" is right. before doing all that i advice you to understand what you do.
read the All-in-One Defy Beginner's guide and the wiki
... and check if you are really rooted using Root Checker
if you are, you just have to install a custom recovery (with 2ndInit Recovery Installer if you want) and then the rom of your choice.

I belive i have managed to install if after a few hours. The 2.3 version of 2ndInit is not working, but the version 2.0 did work on my first attempt.
So, if someone is also experiencing problems trying to install bootloader, try a previous version

[Q] HTC magic 32A

Hey When i try to downgrade My magic with the RUU_Sapphire_Rogers_WWE_2.17.631.2_release_signed_NoDriver.exe i keep gettin the 130 model id error. I have done everything there was written in the Unlockr guide. And my battery is fully charged.. I really want to downgrade so i can get the custom roms. Someone have any tips or something? Thanks in Advance
You don't need to downgrade to get root and subsequently start flashing custom ROM's. As a matter of fact, there's a guide on the first page of this forum that will tell you how.
All you need to install custom roms on your phone is:
1) ROOT with universalandroot
2) Install Custom Recovery
3) Optional (install ENG SPL)
4) Install Radio/SPL version required by the ROM you are about to install
5) Flash the ROM in recovery

[Q] ClockworkMod help!

Hi,
a friend asked me to install CyanogenMod 7 on his ZTE blade after using it on my wildfire.
started by rooting using Universal AndRoot, went perfectly... superuser granted
then installed Rom Manager and clicked Flash Clockwork Mod, selected ZTE Blade, let it install, but i cannot boot into recovery.
the Clockwork version is somthing like 5.0.2.0 which i have read is not supported on a Gen1 device.
the phone still works so i have got time to find a perfect seolution
My question is:
If i install RecoveryManager to use "recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.6-blade.img" to change the clockwork version will this allow me to flash an older version of CWM?
will i then be able to boot into ClockworkMod and flash "update-cm-7.0.0-Blade-signed.zip" on the Gen1 ZTE Blade?
Thanks for all the help
Just use Rom manager to downgrade cwm, no need to carry out a restore.

I have tried using the 'all clockworkmod versions' and selecting the version I want, the bar at the top is downloading, then it says 'error' something to do with privileged scripts or something.
Sorry I don't have the phone here at the moment, but will tomorrow.
I have checked superuser and root access ect, but all is working.
Any ideas
Thanks for your help
Fastboot is enabled in gen1 phones.
So just download a blade-gen1-recovery seperarely and flash the img file from fastboot. The fastboot command will be "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
As for the cm7 version u mentioned I don't know whether it is gen1 or gen2. But u can make ur stock rom nandroid backup and check the cm7 and if it is incompatible it wont boot.
And gen1 to gen2 firmware upgrade is needed for using gen2 roms.

Read that guide to convert to Gen2 and install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Hi,
thank you all for your replies, i have now read that CyanogenMod wiki info page you requested, very good infomation. will work on this when Clockwork is working.
as for FastBoot.... i have never used that on a ZTE before, pressing POWER and VOLUME DOWN does nothing but make the android logo flash and POWER and VOLUME UP and MENU does the exact same!
i am open to all advice and infomation, i am paranoid of bricking his phone
Thanks for all your help everyone!

Rooting 2.3.6? [help for ics - noob again here]

Hi there, i feel sorry to post, i know that the answer should be somewhere...
I've an unlocked Nexus S (the repair center unlocked me the device), but not rooted. How can I root it? I mean, which guide should i follow? Seems like there's not a guide for 2.3.6, is this working with my version? -> [Mac] Root
Also a few question: since I'm already unlocked should I wipe all my stuff or is it fine? Will I keep the data?

Well if you want ICS all you really need is an unlocked bootloader (unlocked icon on boot)
Root isnt needed.
You can manually flash clockworkmod from ADB shell then reboot into clockwork recovery, mount storage, transfer ICS rom and flash it. all without rooting.
i used the one click root for my i9023. the link is in my sig.
hth
download this file and put it in SDCARD
and then install it via recovery
but remember , always make backup before you do anything
press power button + vol up button at same time for few seconds you will be in bootloader , and then go to recovery
In the end I've done (before qtwrk's post, thanks for the file anyway!)!
I was using a superuser zip that was corrupted i think, then I found one that worked. After that I've had some troubles with the CWM, but I did it!
And I also have ICS! Amazing.. goes like a charm!
One question (I can't post in the thread in the developer section..):
how can I install the patch for the calendar? Download it, put in the / and then "choose .zip from sdcard" in the CWM?
One more question: Titanium backup doesn't allow me to restore the apps, I can't find the "install third parts apps"... : /
Thanks for all!

You got an ics bootloader which is locked, so to install any custom recovery you have to unlock it first. Here's everything you need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425

[Q] Recovery, CM11, Kernel installation?

Hi. I have been recenty using CM10 on my Defy and I wanted to change it. As I installed my CM with 2ndinit recovery it automatically changed to TeamWinRecoveryProject. So lately I was trying to flash this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515036
But as you can see, there is this line:
For CM10,10.1,10.2 < 07.11.13 users:
To install KitKat, need update recovery. Do not forget reboot, after install recovery.

I don't actually know, how to install new recovery I tried to flash it with TWRP, but after reboot I wasn't able to open it at all I tried to use ROM manager and other apps like this, but nothing worked. And I don't know why, but after a couple of reboots, my system crashed somehow: as the CM logo showed up while booting it just didn't move farther and kept like that. So I used RSD Lite and flashed SBF file just as it was described in this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828639
OK, so now I want to install new recovery and ROM. Can anyone tell me, how to install recovery which is needed for QUARX's CM11?
And also: I don't know much about this, because I'm a newbie, but I heard that it's recommandable to change Kernel too. I heard that it would speed up my phone etc. Is it true? How can I do it? Which Kernel should I use? I didn't change anything while rooting my phone and/or installing CM10.
Just because you're a newbie, it doesn't mean you can't read through before asking questions. Read this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2568325. No kernel change required.
