Unlocked GS4 update and s-view cover - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i've been hearing about an update in Germany(the one that allows u to move some apps to the external sd card, semi-transparent notification bar, etc). I wanted to know if there is an update for the international unlocked GS4.
Talking about the s-view cover, i'm thinking on buying one but is it worth it? Does it close well? or Should i buy a spigeon neo hybrid case instead?
Thanks you in advance.

This is the MEA update. You should get it, it makes the phone smoother too.
As for the cover, I guess that's a matter of taste

Do you have any link where i can download the update via odin? I couldnt find the new firmware in sammobile.com, i couldn't figure out which version i should install.
And sorry for the ignorance, but what means MEA?

MEA is just the last 3 letters of the build number of the firmware. You can check the build number at Settings>About Device. And there are newer firmwares than MEA already

You can think of MEA as a version "number". It's not the last one though but the changes you talk about are from this particular version.
If you have a GT-I9505 I can suggest you this thread if you want a pre-rooted stock rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40710278
Just make sure you read and understand everything. Oh, and go for the latest rom while you're at it.

Sorry, i should have specified before, my GS4 is the exynox octa core( i9500 ). And i couldnt find the new update for my device yet ):

I have the S-View cover, and it's crap! It looks nice, but it doesn't protect the back and metal edges of your phone from scratches etc. It also get's in the way when you open the front cover, and makes it very difficult to hold your phone properly. I am looking to buy a different Samsung cover. This is the one I have my sights on. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Gal...8-1&keywords=galaxy+s4+case+plus+in+navy+blue It's a genuine Samsung product, and a perfect fit for the phone. It also gives it great protection, it just doesn't look as good as the S-View cover, but that's a small price to pay if it's going to keep your phone well protected!

No worries, I assumed you had the i9505 since you said something about Germany
I can't really recommend you a particular rom since I've got the i9505, but just go take a look at the i9500 development forum and find the rom that suits you best.

Yeah already searched in both Original development and Android Development for i9500 and there isn't any thread with the official firmwares. Since sammobile doesn't have it too, i think i'll have to wait.

I encourage you to try some custom firmware instead
Il you don't want to, sammobile has it for sure, I think you just have issues identifying it if you really want pure stock firmware then read about Samsung versioning scheme on this forum, and about csc codes.
Oh, I suppose you already tried updating through kies?

Chain fire's auto root (triggers knox flag) or root de la vega (which shouldn't trigger it). Check the original android development subforum. I have personally used auto root because I don't care about warranty and the second root method wasn't released at the time.

Are you in Vodafone UK? If so, then they still haven't updated your firmware, it's still on MI7. Only Note 3 UK firmware that is updated is the unbranded BTU one, which is up to MJ3.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can't flash a different firmware, as in the BTU firmware is different from the VOD firmware, and therefore it wouldn't be possible to flash that firmware (unless I completely wipe data on the phone, which I'd rather not if possible). Right?
Any advice would be appreciated.

For today, the limit is over I guess. So Kies is the only way out.

Hi Bala,
I installed Russian firmware yesterday,.... some times i am getting Roaming symbol now i am plan to install India version.... Do i need to install India modem separately to avoid roaming symbol..?
Updated to 4.3. Phone seems really snappy, and text looks good and sharp. Camera opens fast.
The only problem that I have (and had in 4.2.2) is that when I take photos in HDR mode, phone shuts down when it shows "Processing".
I thought update will solve this problem but damn. Anyone else having same problem? please report.

[SOLVED]: Disadvantage of flashing to SHV-E210L firmware

I've got an SHV-E210L (Korean Galaxy S III) running on an I9300 firmware (don't know how).
I saw on SamMobile that an Android 4.3 firmware is available for the SHV-E210L. I wanted to ask if I'll run into any problems if I flash that firmware?
Will my phone get locked if I flash that firmware?
BTW, just telling you I don't mind the 80-character SMS limit or the fact that I can't use EDGE. Are there any other disadvantages of flashing a Korean firmware?
I've also heard of I9300 users losing their IMEI's after flashing to 4.3 and having excessive battery drain and random reboots. Will I get those?
Thanks

First impressions !!!
Hi everybody !!
I'm a lucky spanish owner of the P600 and I've installed kitkat this evening !!! I couldn't guess it would arrive so "early" to my country
I can confirm it comes with multiuser !!!! In fact it has two types of users: regular users and restricted users (where you can allow access app by app, very useful with kids).
New UI (apart from notification bar, multiwindow bar, recent apps and settings menu that are completely different not other major changes advised, but I'm using nova launcher).
I can not tell you something about battery life yet as it's too soon.
New gallery, new my files app, new samsung store, samsung link, group play, watchon, peel smart remote, scrapbook and maybe I'm missing something more but not so relevant.
It's absolutely smooth, but I hadn't complains about it in 4.3 as I was using nova launcher and still with few lag in lockscreen (exynos "feature") but much less than before for sure !!!
These are my first impressions. Surely I'm missing something but in general I think is a good update (only by the multiuser feature it is worth it !!).
Hope you find this useful
installed this morning on my SM-P600 . No Problem

Call me boring but I really wanted to wait for the UK version thinking I'd give it a full wipe before installing 4.4. It would save me having to wipe my Note yet again and setup everything from scratch.
Do you think there will be any differences at all between the Spanish & UK version?

There will be NO great differences between the Spanish and the UK verrsion, I suppose.
What I did:
- I had the Dutch, older version.
- I flashed the 4,4 VS KitKat version with Odin. All my own settings and my installed programs remained at my Note 600. I mean: nothing had disappeared.
- But yesterday I downloaded the Spanish version. Before I flashed it with Odin, I cleaned up my Note 600 by doing a full wipe and factory reset. (You can find it at your screen by clicking together the next tree buttons: home, volume up and power for about 15 seconds).
- After that I flashed the Spanish version.
I noticed that the Spanish version is almost the same as the VS KitKat version. That made me suppose that the UK version will be almost the same, too.By the way: later on you can flash the UK version with no problem over the Spanish version: you wil not lose any of four programs and other personal things.
What about warranty? I suppose flashing a different firmware will change my csc so I will lose my warranty... Is that correct?

I'm curious now too. I'm SO fed up or waiting for 4.4 on the UK variant....but I don't want to do it if changing the csc voids the warranty. Surely as it doesn't trip KNOX you can just use ODIN to reflash the original firmware to correct the csc if something goes awry and needs a warranty repair?

Yesterday I flashed the Spain firmware on my Greek note. My csc remained unchanged (EUR).

I not quite understand if this update is official or not and if it has the same ui as samsung galaxy s5?

Flashed the Spanish version on my UK tablet and it seems perfectly fine. Thanks!
Sadly it doesn't work with Towelroot, but that's another matter.

[Q] MJ7 4.4.2 update for Note 3?

I'm in Australia, and i'm pretty sure we're the last lot of Note 3 owners to get the 4.4.2 update.
Is there an OTA that we can use to update to 4.4.2?
Currently on 4.3 still MJ7.

You could flash any of the 4.4.2 firmwares available via Odin. Depends how you feel about tripping the Knox counter.
I'm in Australia as well and after my s3 I knew we would be one of the last to get any updates so I just went straight to 4.4.2 via odin.

If he allways install a new oficial version from odin it will never trip Knox counter, i´ve done it myself, i´m using a version from the Netherlands. it will change your csc though...
Also from Aus here. Gave up waiting officially as of yesterday and installed the UK (BTU CSC) firmware via ODIN with no issues at all. I didn't need to wipe my data, it all just worked as though it was a standard upgrade.
Next time I will just import one. Especially with trigger-happy KNOX I couldn't be bothered worrying about whether my Aus warranty is intact (I pad $300 "Aus tax" to buy it local vs import - not worth it). I doubt I tripped my Knox flag as it's an official unmodified first party firmware from Samsung that I installed..

So it didn't wipe apps or anything? Did it install any other boot logo? Or other provider bloatware? Or is it a plain stock Samsung UK firmware? Can you roll it back later?
Just trying to work out if its 100% worth it or if I should wait. I am getting antsy though.

And your life won't get better.
Wait for the official update, or flash another firmware with Odin.

Well - that was less than helpful.
I would actually like answers to my questions directed to zetsurin.
Also, my life WOULD get better in ways you probably couldn't fathom.
You know nothing about me, so nyerr.

Agreed. I'm also waiting on this update and getting tired of waiting for an official OTA..
There are a number of features in 4.4.x I'm waiting to try out

When flashing other regions firmware, sometimes it comes with the additional bloatware from the region. It's normal.
You can just disable the bloatware from apps manager.
If u tired waiting and wanna try kk, just give it a shot.
Once ur region comes with kk, u can always flash back from odin.

I'm on Optus, but pre-paid. I bought an unbranded phone. Do you have a carrier branded model?

From what I remember I don't really notice a difference in boot logo. But then again, I've always had the unbranded XSA version. If you have a branded version, it will likely revert your boot logo to an unbranded version which may/may not be desirable to you.
