Internal Storage - Wrong free space - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I've performed a factory reset from Android and also i wiped data and cache from CWM.
Why the free space is wrong? Is it a normal behavior?

I have 1gb free space only but the the grey bar is too large.
Do i need to perform a format from cwm?
Thanks in advance.

Ok, can i brick my phone formatting the SD from CWM?
I dont know the recommended steps to perform that.
Thanks
Max
EDIT: I found this option format / sdcard but i dont know if my phone will be able to starup after the format or if i need to reflash the rom.

Well, i've formatted my internal sd from CWM using the option format sd card and everything is working as expected, now i have 8gb free space... :good:

Are you running the stock rom, just rooted and using CWM?
My phone is reporting 0.0 GB of free space...

Yes, stock rom + chainfire root + cwm
Just format the sd card using the option format /sd card

[Q] How to extend the 7th partition with Easus / Phiremod_HC_Dual_boot_check

Hi there, forgive my noobiness, I dont even have a Nook yet , but I want to be ready when I get it next Monday!!!
I burned the Phiremod_HC_Dual boot image to my sd (8gb Transcend class 6). But now I want to extend the 7th partition to use the remaining space.
Is there a link that explains how to do it? I have seen it referenced in a lot of posts in a very matter of fact way ("just extend the 7th partition with EASUS") but I have no idea how to do it. Can someone explain? Should the end result be that the 7th partition appears with a FAT32 label?
This is how it looks right now after I burned the img with Win32DiskImager:

The idea is to expand that last partition (the one labeled "sdcard") to take up the remaining unallocated space on the card. Since the sdcard partition and the unallocated space are next to each other (in other words, there is no existing partition in between them) it is no problem to expand the sdcard partition to take up the remaining 3.78 GB.
The usual advice is to use EASEUS Partition Manager, though as I don't have a Windows computer I can't personally vouch for the software. You should be able to simply right-click on the sdcard partition from within EASEUS and select "Resize". The rest should be pretty obvious.

Done! Well that was easy, thanks for the explanation!

Is it possible to...

Is it possible to resize the boot partition of the stock nook boot partition to make use of SDCARD partition 4 on a 16 GB card that is used for stock nook on sdcard and having cm7.2 on internal? As in, Is it safe to do so?
This is my current partitions from the sdcard install of stock nook

the reason i want to is so that I can make use of the space for videos/movies and other data like TB backups.
also, on another question...is it possible to revert the cm7.2 to the way it was from installation (without other user apps, so a fresh install without actually having to reinstall the rom?). The 7.2 rom is on the internal data (EMMC).

Yes, you can achieve what you want, but not by messing with the partitions on the SD. You do it by changing a setting in CM7.
Go to my NC tips thread linked in my signature. Look at item B3 in the second post of that thread, "Using the same SD media...". It tells you how to use that big partition 4 with CM7 on internal.
And as far as starting clean with CM7, that is easy too. Just load CWM recovery either by internal recovery or by bootable SD to 'wipe data/factory reset'. That will clean all your apps and settings so that it is like a fresh install of CM7.2. Your ROM is not touched. If you don't have CWM, you can get that from my tips thread too.

[Q] After CM installation - 2.7GB internal storage space left.

After flashing a CM nightly and GApps, and only loading about 30 of my apps, I am showing 2.7 gigs of space left on the internal storage. Did I screw something up with the install? Did I miss a wipe or something? Of the 16GB on internal storage, how many should be used by the CM rom? I'm just wondering what space available should look like after a correct install.
Is there a way to get back the space on the internal storage that ATT and Samsung originally used for the TouchWiz rom?
what kind of wipe did you perform before flashing? did you come from stock or another custom rom?
I wiped the cache partitiion and the dalvik cache. Should I have also done the "wipe data'Factory reset" option?
I came straight from stock TouchWiz after the root.
Yes, you should have done a total wipe when coming from TW.
Wipe your /data and /system partitions.
Make darn sure the internal SD card is wiped because sometimes the folder structure used by TW is not the same as CM and it can cause problems. Not saying that's going to happen, but it is possible and I've seen it before.
After you wipe everything and re-install CM, you'll get close to 10GB of internal space available.
I re-wiped everything and reinstalled. Still showing just 2.66gb "free"

just to make sure its covered, since we weren't there to see, check these directions below and double check that you performed them all before flashing:
In CWM:
Select Wipe data/factory reset
Select Wipe Cache
Select Advanced and Wipe Dalvik Cache
Select Mounts and Storage and format /system
If you are transitioning from 4.1 to 4.2 or 4.2 to 4.1, you must also format /data. You will lose all personal data so back it up first.
In TWRP:
Select Wipe
Select Factory Reset and wipe
Select System and wipe
If you are transitioning from 4.1 to 4.2 or 4.2 to 4.1, you must also select Data and wipe. You will lose all personal data so back it up first.
someone in the s3 forums had this issue today as well. he posted this:

For anyone who may be experiencing this problem, I fixed it by following xBeerdroiDx's instructions and then by formatting sdcard. Be sure to put the rom and Gapps on an external sd and remove from the device before booting into recovery. After all that's stuff wiped, you may put the external sd back in and load the zip files from the external sd.

[Q] Help me free up space on my phone, mystery files?

I am running CM11. I have no music, no movies, very little photos, very little apps (since I went from 4.2.2 touchwiz mdl to cm10.2 to cm11 and got wiped several times). My internal storage is almost at max. I have no clue how to clear it. I had to pull my kids 32gb sd card from his galaxy tab to use because I can't figure out how to remove whatever stupid files are leftover. Can anyone tell me how to get my internal storage back on the galaxy with CM11, my recovery is TWRP. This is my phone right now.

Sorry for being maddeningly dense, it's been an extremely long day and I'm drinking coffee but brain is at half power, right click internal drive/format after I do the previous instructions you provided? I'm so lost. Again sorry.

[Q][REQ]What am I doing wrong?

I haven't flashed a android rom in magldr in maybe 6 months to a year, so I forgot. LoL
I load the zip build into my sdcard boot up to magldr, select 10. Services > 1. BootSettings > 3. AD SD Dir > 4ExtRecovery > Flash the zip build - but then after successful flash when I boot back into magldr and go to AD SD Dir the new rom folder isn't there at all. Selecting NativeSD fails too.
Really? Nobody cares to help... WTF? LoL
I know someones gotta be out there.
Yup I'm still fighting and getting stumped at this.
Which rom?
perhaps it is a nand rom and needs to boot from ad nand?
if latest macs18max rom, should be from ad sd and DirectSD folder

Just these and none of them are creating the "Android" folder anymore after a successful flash, I got close to lollipop until it rebooted in the middle of the bootscreen, but would really rather have Gingerbread MiUi for speed.

after flashing, are any other folders on your sdcard? eg DCIM, movies, music
maybe sdcard needs formatting https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
But they all look like nand roms, so need to be booted from magldr 3. boot ad nand
Did you partition the nand with the correct sizes from rom OP using flash.cfg?

I think the partitions might've gone bad from just sitting around for so long doing nothing, anythings possible.
No music or any other folders, so I guess I might have to start over from scratch again.
Thinking about it, you wouldn't get music etc folders until the rom boots, and you are not getting a rom to boot.
Agree, back to basics. Use flash.cfg to set up nand partitions for a particular rom according to the instructions for that rom. flash it. boot ad nand. profit?
