hi people ...
This morning during my usual research, I came across a site that I upgraded incredibly over whether it is possible to update my Note 8 (wi-fi version) to the latest version of Android available today, namely Jelly Bean 4.2.2
The file to flash is entirely official and comes from the server SamMobile so who gets in and try it ...
Apparently there is a greater fluidity of the whole system as well as better battery management - which to me does not last at all, on the detail and just wanting to talk about it ...
The uploaded firmware via Odin (included in the package that'll download in v3.07) must be performed after a backup of all Our data since it will be permanently deleted, so be careful what you do - neither I nor others we take the responsibility for what you are to do
Launched the tablet in download mode (power button + power + volume down), connect the device to the PC until you get the blue signal in Odin, after which add the file CODE_N5110XXCMG2_1031850_REV01_user_low_ship.tar in CODE section and the file CSC_OXA_N5110OXACMG2_1031850_REV01_user_mid_noship.tar in CSC section as well as the kona_wifi.pit file in PIT.
Start the firmware flash just entered and wait ...
...so, we should also have Android 4.2.2 on Our Note 8
Let me know how it goes the operation, thanks ...
Were you able to re-root

the process will void your warranty because it is a beta rom (unofficial) but should not serve root permissions to do this ...
... remarked that this custom rom / firmware is only for the GT-N5110 !!!
nb. Obviously those were brought innovations introduced by Google with Android 4.2.2 as the lock screen widget, the quick setting and other software implementations.
will be curious to have some users talk about how this works for them...obviously flashing leaked software voids your warranty, but, everyone here already understands that...
i have the LTE version .... but not a single ROM is made for it :crying:
Has anyone tried this yet? I'm downloading now, and will probably go for it (though maybe not till later tonight/tomorrow. I'll update this post with a few comments once I've had a look at it.
UPDATES:
CF Auto Root works fine to root this version.
ALL data (including internal SD) is wiped using the above method.
Internal SD card data is all in /DATA/MEDIA/0 after this update, so even if you manage to update without a full SD wipe, nothing is going to be where you expect it to be. Unfortunately no multi-user though Beware when restoring a nandroid that the new location of SDCARD may cause problems.
Everything important (to me) seems to be working fine. Despite the SD card wipe, all my S-notes reappeared by samsung sync, so I'll just have afew pictures, pdfs and documents to copy back. Definitely feels faster, the Note 8 always felt really sluggish compared to my HTC One, but now there is not much between them. It even feels more responsive now than the GS4 I tried out when I was comparing it to the HTC.

There is not too much difference from the "old" firmware 4.1.2 but for performance let us come in a few hours ...
If you are interested, this is the album with the pictures of this custom firmware 4.2.2 inside the note 8.0 wifi only of the friend's niccolò ...
byeeeee
@rmein... await us all, I'm waiting for your new sdcard
note 8
Has anyone tried it yet?
Downloading now...was over an hour. 15 min left
My main concern about flashing this is requirement to flash the new partition table. None of the 4.1.2 firmwares I have looked at seem to have a .PIT file, so I'm a bit concerned I won't be able to go back to 4.1.2 if this turns out to be a bit buggy.
I've gone ahead and done it. Bugs so far:
I've only once been able to edit the extended toggles, subsequent attempts force-close the Settings app (In fact going to settings -> notification panel force-closes settigns too). Wifi seems a bit flaky but that could be my workplace, will try at home tonight.
But...
Apps can be moved to SD card now, a lot of them, but their icon is replaced with a SD card one [edit: Only on the homescreen, you can remove it and re-add it and it's fine].
More as I find it...

Yes, it's normal that there are bugs ... however, we are talking about a beta and not a final draft, though coming.
Let's say that affect the transparencies that were not there before, the ability to have all the widgets available and how to claim the boys SamMobile greater responsiveness attached to a battery power more gradually - the only thing that interests me honestly: P
I'm very happy with the update so far. Definitely much more responsive than 4.1.2. No serious bugs so far.
Time to start messing about with it, I never bothered on 4.1.2 because I knew there would be a 4.2.2 coming soon enough....

Hopefully 4.2.2 will encourage a few more users to try their hand at making custom roms. There are so few roms at the moment that I'm even tempted to share the few tweaks I make to the stock rom (basically just rooting, deleting some of the stuff I don't use and installing Xposed)
Civato and soloilmeglio are doing great stuff, and perhaps now we are the first in the Note family to get 4.2.2 we might get some attention from other experienced devs.
@gshaw1967: just use CF Autoroot, I think it's just downloaded apps you can move to the SD card.

Can anyone verify if they are from the uk and can get the sd card update. I mainly want it for the bug fixes and camera since i use folder mount.
Thanks.

The update hasn't reached the UK yet as far as I know. Installing a custom rom based on MEA or installing stock MEA via Odin is the way to get it.
As for your custom status, purchase triangle away from the market and it will set it back to official.

Thanks I tried triangle away and it worked before when following the tutorial but now no matter which options I try it stays custom. Binary status is official though and it number of flashes is 0. I tried downloading Germany and UK stock latest firmware both worked great and I'm now back to official status. However is it possible to root the new Germany firmware?
With still keeping official status? Thanks.

Well, mine cost me 600 quid on the day of launch (yeah,I just could not wait).
It took me a good while before I did anything to it.

A lot of reading later, and it is not too hard to do things like rooting and recoveries etc.

i was hoping one of you brave souls had instlaled it and could tell me what it is.... seeing how its only 63mb im not expecting anything major

Honestly, what could Acer possibly have to offer that's better than the custom roms found here? With the latest Cm 10.2, bootloader 8 or 9,and a decent recovery, anything Acer could send OTA would be a downgrade. This thing is more stable than many newer devices with similar software. It's faster and more useful than the ipad I use at work. Who needs Acer?

Would be interesting to see what's in it. Vache put out a pc based update checker. Might be able to snag it to pc then decrypt, unzip, and see what's in it. Could be a prelude to an upcoming version update.

Will look at it when I return from vacation. In the meatime, there's a decrypt tool in Themes and Apps. Pretty simple. Then you can open it in winzipand see wwhat's there.
My guess is a maintenance update. Acer officially stated last year ics is as far as they go with 50x tab.

Last night I went full stock in order to install the OTA just because I was curious like everybody else .... and honestly I didn't see any changes but the built number. The Android is still 4.0.3 with no noticeable changes. Maybe the updates they made were all under the hood.

When I went read the CM10.2 post, I saw some feature work, some not, with the problem of SOD. What do you think the benefit is to get the latest CM10.2? Thanks.

Well, first, you're talking about Android 4.3, which Acer has not released for our device. Most benchmarks I've seen show better performance with the cm 10.2 variants than in 10.1, let alone the stock roms. Besides less bloat, more customization, and custom kernels, upgrading to a 4.3 ROM gets you new features not available in previous versions. As for stability, the first alpha builds of 4.3 I tried were already more stable than some 4.2.2 release candidates I tried.
I've used both of the 4.3 ROMs found in the forum here and they are both good.

To answer you and the gentleman above... Australia will probably be the last country on earth to get the update as usual. So we might have to reside to getting it of some kind developer who uploads it here somewhere.
If you do wish to get updates you should go back to stock firmware (probably the first backup you made for your telstra 4.1.2) doesn't matter if it's rooted. Connect your phone to the PC and have KIES installed. Click update firmware and update (done, it will automatically unroot your phone and put back the stock recovery). You can easily update after that.
If anyone finds any android 4.3 working please update us here as soon as you can with a link to the page. If I find a working ROM for the official android 4.3 TW ROM I'll post it here too.

Well now...I've been holding off playing with rooting my phone (as I'm new to 'droid and have an awful lot to learn, but have come a LONG way in 2 weeks) as I was expecting Telstra to release an update. Since that appears NOT to be forthcoming, Ill consider the various root options, none of which are particularly appealing at the moment mainly as it seems no-one has a stock ROM for this phone online and I can't backup mine without root. Catch 22 it seems. Information on locked bootloaders, Telstra ROM mods, rooting the 7105 "T" version is VERY limited
So...if anyone happens to have a link for a ROM copy please let me know.
(Or info on a rooting technique that works)
Ultimately every one on xda will be using the custom 4.3 rom for the note 3 goodies because Samsung will not be releasing those features in it's official release

Okay I will explain what I done for you...
When I first rooted my Galaxy Note 2 in May, I was a new-comer to android, I had an iPhone for a long time. What I done was root my phone, I Odin installed TWRP after rooting because I really don't like CWM (those are the names of the 'recoveries' available), they will replace the default Samsung recovery. Just make sure you get TWRP. I think it's up to TWRP 2.6.3
Well yeah let's get back to the topic, as soon as I rooted I used TWRP to make a backup of my default Telstra ROM (completely with EFS, MODEM, basically tick everything you can possibly backup).
I took that backup and put it on my laptop and on my PC and I kept a copy on my external card the whole time. That was the best idea, any time I ever had any problems with my phone I went back to that backup. I even soft bricked my phone once and after hours of panicking I realised I can just Re-install the default backup, and it fixed my phone.
Oh and I just recently un-rooted my phone to check for updates. All I done was use SuperSU to do an UNROOT. Then went into recover, restored the original backup I made of the Telstra ROM. Plugged my phone into the PC, and used Samsung KIES to check for firmware update. It just restarted my phone, removed TWRP recovery, re-installed the samsung one, and it removed the root completely and I'm basically went back to my original telstra ROM. I can go into settings and check for updates and everything. (I can confirm there is no update as of yet).
AS for your other QUESTION.
ALL THE ROMS in the N7105 Section will WORK with your N7105T Model. It's the same thing. JUST WATCH OUT and make sure you never install N7100 ROMS (They will soft-brick and could hard-brick your phone).
Thanks for the input.
I've been considering between 3, namely CF AutoRoot, Galaxy Note Toolkit And (exploit based) Framaroot, with a bias towards Toolkit so far ( as it specifies the 7105 "T" variant).
But if you've actually ODINed a GT-7105T (Telstra) with CWP without issues, I'll certainly consider that.
Any one else care to chime in on this (if you've done the same phone/telco only though !)
I've come far enough to understand rooting, boot processes, CWM/TWRP, exploits AND the importance of picking the exact model !
I'll take the plunge when I get enough input to decide.

It's not that hard really, you can't really mess it up if you follow the instructions... Hey root it whichever way you see fit, whatever you think is easier for you, don't listen to me. But I do highly recommend you get TWRP for backing up and formatting and installing your ROMS. Also I recommend PAC-MAN it's a good ROM, but it's not very stable at the moment (kind of).

Don't take offense at my asking for multiple inputs. I just don't want to brick at $600 phone needlessly
I've now sourced a ROM from Sammobile and downloaded it last night.
I'm backing up settings and stuff tonight and will run with Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit tomorrow (I went PRO) and go for option 3 - THE LOT !
Hopefully it'll all go ok.

Well, I did the deed last night with Toolkit PRO and it all went smoothly. No Telstra or Samsung nasties reared their heads PLUS there wasn't a yellow triangle either !
That's the trouble with being in Oz. It's such a small market and REAL information is very hard to come by...so one is very cautious !
Anyway thanks for your assistance :victory:

I Odin flashed mine straight out of the box before I even set it up pulled backup and kept stock rom for warranty only.. these phones are pretty much unbrickable to an extent just don't go trying flashing n7100 roms and you'll be fine at&t roms are ok too just don't flash their bootloaders or even try to.. I change roms daily and have for like the last 2 years on my original note plus HTC's if your unsure on anything this place is helpful more than bloody Samsung

Sammobile: 4.3 is rolling out for the S3.
Thank you for the forum!
Since this is the "new" S4 I'm very happy that it has it's home now.
I got mine as a surprise after throwing my "old" I9505 in the wall and breaking it in half in a post-op amnesia so it was a nice early Christmas gift
So where do we start? If you look at GSM-Arena: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5542&idPhone2=5665
It's very close to Note 3. It's so close that I think that they make it in the same production line. That is logical to cut the costs.
There are obvious things that makes them different but really not that much as core-hardware.
Note 3
3 gig ram. It can do record video with a notch higher density, but is that hardware or software? I'm guessing the later.
I9506
I noticed that the cam has focus-problems when I tried to do my bills today (that has QR-codes so you don't have to type them).
It had trouble with near focus. I tried with my HTC One X that focused it much better.
The only thing is if the Knox has an e-fuse but we will soon be aware of that. In that case there will be problems. For Samsung.
What more?
It doesn't have the Wifi-bug that Note 3 has. I don't know if that has anything to do with the 4.3 or not?
Does anybody know about Wifi-problems with 4.3 with the i9505?
The bug is that it considers the Wifi being "poor connection quality" and disconnects. While you stand next to the router.
I tried that on 3 at home, went back to the shop and it worked there flawlessly. Figure.
So that bug is something we don't want to introduce here since I'm guessing we need to blend some code form Note 3?
So basically it's a damn rocking phone. It's a pocket Note 3 and I think we can do amazing stuff with it.
I did an Antutu on original TouchWiz (has only rooted it) and got almost the same score as Note 3.
I know, it doesn't say that much but it's a measure of SOME kind. If not qualitative then at least quantitative.
So since I have a Note 3 as well (damn saleman). I was supposed to give one of them in my family but I think they will get my Htc One X
So the benefit is that I can test stuff on both. I don't care about flags, Knox or not. I have a green light from my cell-provider.
"Don't Duck up our cell-net and no warranty if you brick your phone by software" so a bit of precaution and nothing wreckless maybe?
So. How do I build a custom rom? I need a "Custom rom for Dummies" here
I don't even know if there is Kernel-source to start with? Do Samsung disclose that or do they don't give a damn as usual?

Hey there, i love your enthusiasm and that there is someone who is willing to dev . I dont know how its in other countries but here in germany my gt-i9506 is still running 4.2.2 and not 4.3. I hope some people will help you out as im not really able to.

Yes i am also intressted in building rom... Just asop s4 google edition would be very nice!
*edit. Miui would also be nice!
From what I have seen by reading threads on rom building, it could be as easy as building a rom for the the i9505 and then replacing some binaries from a Note 3 rom (or vice versa).
Scrosler in the Nexus7 area gives a pretty good noob guide to building.
I am reading up on XDA-university and CM porting guides at the moment.
Hello guys
First of all nice to see that some of you want do something for the I9506 same like me but i think we need cm support otherwise its not easy to port roms...
Well here are some answers for the questions.
1. Yes it is same s800 processor like in Note 3 wich is supporting LTE+ 150Mbit
2. The wifi bug on Note 3 is Firmware related since you have it
3. All countrys where you can get a I9506 got 4.2.2 Firmware.
There isnt 4.3 Firmware out for I9506 currently but in near future it will since the S4 is on Samsung update list to 4.3
4. Source for I9506 is already out: http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=search&searchValue=GT-I9506
So CM devs have to grab it and support our device
5. Knox?... Since i can read here our device is ready or has already Knox: http://www.samsung.com/de/consumer/mobile-device/mobilephones/smartphones/GT-I9506ZKADTM
Well we will get it atleast with next update 4.3 cause its not in bootloader currently ... i can see only the Knox app ... but i dont care it
6. The well known dsixda's Kitchen i allready tried but our device is currently not supported http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
7. There is also the AOSP Paranoid Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863547 wich can be ported but i didnt tested since it didnt worked with dsixda's Kitchen for me
There are much more but the base of all is CM! So please sign here if you didnt allready

I've used SamsungCamera2.apk from Note3 on my SHV-E330S(same as I9506) and UHD video works right "out of the box" No any patches required, except some patch from Note 3 community to remove record time limit.
Just some precaution: I'm using 4.3 firmware on SHV-E330S, while I9506 has no 4.3 yet. So, i think you have to wait for 4.3 first and then can use Note3 camera.
Update: actually UHD resolution is already supported by stock E330S camera, but isn't enabled in APK. I've just enabled and it works fine.
PLEASE READ THIS!!!
Let's make a rom! (question)
Its been moved by Mod to general Forum so thats why i post the link for it!

S4+ (GT-I9506) System Image.
Ok. Here we are, born to be free (Knox Free). Absalon asked me to give you guys something special. Well, I'll give to you guys still running 4.2.2, - 1 link to my Google drive. You are required to flash with Odin v.1.85. This will be a totally stock XXUAMJ2 system image just ROOTED, the KNOX **** removed and odexed...:good:
Install Chainfire's SuperSU, and some kind of BusyBox.:good:
You can't use CF's Mobile Odin ATM, our model is not supported and that's why I made this pre-rooted system image.
You can now remove/freeze whatever you want, with whatever app you like. I have freezed down 73 apps on my S4+
Try to install CF's Triangle Away and see the result. Funny, not even my S3-LTE shows that kind of info.

Click / copy link and download.
This is the normal odex version. Unpack with zip and it will give you 1 file named SGS-4_Firmware.tar.md5, now flash with Odin v1.85!
Fire up Odin, select PDA!!! and browse to the unpacked file, named: SGS-4_Firmware.tar.md5
Make sure that: Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time are ticked! Nothing else.
Get your phone to download mode: From Phone OFF, press the volume down+home+power buttoms at the same time and will you get to download mode or use a USB jig, I use one from the god old Galaxy S2 days.
Connect USB cable to PC and you should be ready to go.
Press start and wait....after some time your phone will reboot, you are now rooted, running totallty odexed 4.2.2 stock.
If you have already rooted your phone any other way, you might get cunstom/modifed...just tell me and I'll make an Odin flash file with stock Kernel and this PDA.
If you like this, please thank me :good:
Next will be be De-Odexed version.
Ok here comes the De-Odexed version:

LINK REMOVED, due to a problem with the SecContacts app.

Ok actually downloading t, maybe you could create your own topic ?
I have read all KitKat topics till now. It looks nice, but still i'm not convinced to update to 4.4.2. My Note 3 at this moment : 4.3 MK2 UK rooted with Knox 0x0. (csc: Vodaphone UK)
I read posts about success, and also read posts about failure. For example :
- cannot write to SD card (or partial)
- bootlooping
- rooting failures
- soft bricking
I am curious how you think about this.

My honest opinion, stay on 4.3. There are a lot of bugs on 4.4.2 - at least with 4.3 you have options with ROMS etc
Some issues I have had
SD cannot write/delete
Rotation issues
STUPID battery drainage
Pain in my A$$

It looks like this a 'leaked' firmware, so many major bugs. But I also read success, how can that be so different?
I'm having a number of problems with 4.4.2, but they're nothing I can't work around with some tinkering. If you can't handle bugs on your phone, stay with 4.3.
If you're looking for big differences you won't find it visually. Most differences are "under the hood".
Haven't had any of the problems spoken about -
SD cannot write/delete
Rotation issues
STUPID battery drainage
But then again I might just be lucky....
If you're happy with 4.3 then est to stay as you are. You will loose root though you can get it again easily enough now Chainfire has released his cf-autoroot for Kitkat (you will trip Knox however).
A lot of cosmetic mods don't work and a fair few xposed mods work partially or not at all.
framework seems to be altered so themes don't work and until these are fixed you are "srtuck" with stock android look. There are some things you can do but not the range of stuff I did in 4.3.
All up its a mixed bag... Just needs time to be cracked and hacked and all will be well again...
Hi,
I just updated my note 3 to 4.4 and it's true that there's nothing extravagantly new on the update.
But, I did notice that my device is no longer rooted. I tried rooting my note 3 via ODIN but there's a problem (bootlooping)...
What can I do about this? I want to root my device but I can't because of the 4.4 update. Is there any methods or available download that I need to do so that I can root my device? And is it possible if I can switch back to 4.3 since 4.4 I flashed was the leaked version?
Looking forward to helping me out with my problem. More power!

Sir,
I noticed you mentioned about that Chainfire released a cf-autoroot for Kitkat. Where can I find this? Have you updated yours to 4.4 and is still rooted? Can you help me out? I appreciate it much. Thanks.
Here is the file you need to root 4.4.2
I think after upgrading to 4.42 you can't go back, can't root without tripping Knox, SD is limited, I think you can't use Appop to set program permissions (not sure if there is any replacement), ART is disabled and some other minor bugs and issues.
Come again with benefits please.

Correct to KNOX and downgrading. Appops does work. But not natively supported. ART isn't implemented.

But that's not a bug. It's a kitkat feature, apps need to be updated to work with the new permissions for sd-card access.
Can I use this method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49047469&postcount=1127) to upgrade to Kitkat? So I'll have root but not the new knox bootloader.
If you don't play CM/AOKP/AOSP ROM and never intend to downgrade, your device is not Hong Kong Variant. Just go ahead update to 4.4.2 KitKat.
The most smooth experience I ever get in stock ROM.
No more delay when click the pull down menu for contact search at Phone Keypad. 1st open is slow but after that it is instantly open. This really important to me as I use it often, really appreciate Samsung finally fixed it.
I don't have rotation issue as small portion user report.
Solid stable.
Those facing bootloop is because either
User never tick Phone Bootloader Update.
Using not compatible custom recovery.
Accidentally flash the ROM at Hong Kong Variant Note 3.
Things to aware on KitKat.
Samsung do S View chip detection, now only Genuine Samsung S View Flip cover is working, all counterfeit and 3rd party include Spigen will stop functioning.
Due to new implementation of KitKat, need new permission for writing data to external SD card, thus making certain apps no longer able to write to SD Card. Currently they is a fixed for root user, or just wait the apps developer updates it.
No way to downgrade to any 4.3 ROM due to new bootloader, also means cannot install any CM/AOKP/AOSP until those developer updates them to new bootloader.
stay with 4.3, update you will regret it.
-Generic S-View case won't work ( just like Iphone ios 7 detect none genuine hardware= rip off)
-Call recording feature is NOT implement with Samsung KK (shame on Samsung), therefore call record WILL NOT work.
-New bootloader (No way to revert back older Bootloader) = IOS can not re-install older version.
-Samsung firmware is now just like f**k IOS.
-This will be my last Samsung Handset.

This sucks, android was meant to be the more open source friendly software!! It's basically becoming iOS with all the locks and restrictions it's placing everywhere, I think after this note I'm jumping ship to.. Well god knows what! 4.4.2 is garbage, believe me! I have tried it and am regretting it! It is slow, buggy and worse of all can crash at any time! So till Google don't release an update, don't even think about upgrading!

Let the consumer buy the product, then f*** them over time.... Thanks Samsung. Glad my new TV was an LG.

Hehehe, well all the manufacturers are trying to lock down their devices now, LG will be next with their KNOX version, and already Sony are a ***** to play around with I hear... that leaves HTC? - even then, your warranty is void when you unlock your bootloader.... However, they at least offer you the chance to choose an unlocked safe method via themselves..
I'm not defending the corporate garbage, however, you gotta remember it's business to them.. a few modders over millions of normal sales means nothing to them in the long run -- PS My tv is Samsung haha --

There are no two answers to this! Stay on 4.3
4.4.2 is garbage, believe me! I have tried it and am regretting it! It is slow, buggy and worse of all can crash at any time! So till Google don't release an update, don't even think about upgrading!

dr. Ketan just released v2 of his 4.4.2 rom. I hope it's stable enough to use it.
I hate bugs, even the very small ones.
I was looking at all the posts in this thread but didn't see a solid answer about the 4.4.2 advantages.
can someone tell us what is 4.4.2 better for?

I have read all KitKat topics till now. It looks nice, but still i'm not convinced to update to 4.4.2. My Note 3 at this moment : 4.3 MI7 rooted with Knox 0x0. (csc: Vodaphone UK)
I read posts about success, and also read posts about failure. For example :
- cannot write to SD card (or partial)
- bootlooping
- rooting failures
- soft bricking
I am curious how you think about this.

The normal thing for you would be to upgrade from MI7 to MJ7. When Vodaphone UK 4.4 will be out you should start thinking about upgrading to that.
