dam thats not good.. i have to say its about the same for me.. i kno one thing MF9 fells alot smoother no more lag thats 4 sure
I have noticed it's draning alittle faster then mdl, but not horrible. Might want to check that media server running alot kw it sync and Google pictures etc or music. I know it was a problem on some custom roms /kernels.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Yeah I have to say that I am experiencing the same thing. It was fine at first but now it is definitely worse than MDL. It isn't terrible though and I have four batteries so I am not worried about it

Was having terrible battery life myself due to Google Services wakelock. After deleting my Google acct and signing back in, it's much improved but battery lifeis still a bit below MDL

So that helped? I backed up data and wiped everything, re flashing the kernel. I'll see if that makes a difference.

Amazing battery life here. Pretty moderate usage. All Samsung stuff (Air View, Gestures, S-Voice, etc.) all on plus Google Now on as well.

I am day 4 on the new update. Wiped and re installed everything from scratch. I'll be honest. i am NOT impressed by the battery life, in fact i think it sucks.
Will provide screen shots later

Seems to be a fairly consistent observation - google services is now consuming a noticeably larger portion of battery than earlier (due to wakelocks). Same observation on my phone. I'll try to delete my google acct and sign back in later today.
I'm going to try that too. The reflash of the kernel helped me some, but its still worse than MDL.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
Any suggestions on sysctl or build.prop edits to help with this. I have signed out and back in to google, and it helped somewhat. I'm also trying AGAT's newest kernel, but seeing the google services eating up battery with wakelocks is making my phone run hot as well. If it doesn't get fixed, I'm probably going to revert to MDL, despite all the goodies of MF9.
I just got....
19 hrs. with 4 hrs of screen on and what I would call heavy usage. I have everything turned on including GPS (not wireless GPS though) and Sync. Normal usage would have gone over 24 hrs.
My phone was just the opposite with MDL until I downloaded Blu Kuban. So, I am happy with how this update is working. Can't wait for the kernels to come out so I can tweak it to be a bit more efficient.
PS...sorry, I didn't take a screen shot. Don't know how on this phone yet. PSS...also, I ran an app called battery calibration. You have to be rooted to run it.
Battery life is terrible. I get 10 hours of light usage. I am going back to MDL right now!
Ok it seems that it's a random issue. For those that have great battery life, what is your setup and how did you flash?

i did a complete clean reinstall and now its great
when there are huge updates like the MF9, it's better to always clean install instead of doing just an "update"

I flashed via Odin and then rooted and installed a custom recovery (TWRP) and the battery life was terrible. Also the GPS tagging in the camera stopped putting in the street names it would just say the weather. That was the biggest problem for me.
Now I'm back on MDL and battery life is perfect again.

Yeah. I did it dirty. It worked fine when I went from MDC to MDL so I thought I'd try it that way again. I'm gonna try reflashing with a full wipe and see if it helps.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
For what it's worth, mine was really bad at first but has improved significantly since the initial install. I've been running it since it was released and my phone seems to have settled in at this point. I would say it's basically equivalent to MDL now, whereas it was much worse for a couple days after the initial flash.

Bad battery life is and always will be related to bad or low signal strength. It has nothing to do with MF9 unless the modem messed up you reception. My battery life hasn't changed since the update and I have every feature enabled on my phone. I take it off charger at 7am and put it back on at 11:30pm and I will still be at or above 50% battery. But if I got to my brother in laws, I have very bad signal and the phone will drain incredibly fast.
Sent from my icrap 2 using Tapatalk HD
Yes, I well know about the signal strength and its affect on battery. I get crap signal in my shop and it severely impacts battery at work. The screen shot was from Sunday when I was at home. I have reflashed everything after wiping and it's looking much better than before.

Yeah!, Mine used to last 1 day with 5-6h screen time with 4.3, and with 4.4 + ART, it increased to 8-9 hours screen time!
Well, magnetic cover auto sleep-wake up cases dont work with ART so I wont be using art for quiet a while, despite better performance and longer battery.

You have to enable it under Developer options. You can always revert back to Dalvik if you like. Just bear in mind that the reboot will take significantly longer when you switch

Yeah that first reboot takes forever. It really hammers the CPU too, you can feel the heat around the back camera after it's done. But that's what you get when it's compiling at least 100 apps all at once.
So I'm now on my 3rd charge cycle with getting 3 days and over 10 hours screen on time on each charge. Excellent battery life. It's a shame the other Nexus devices don't have quite such outstanding battery life.
For those who get a over 9h of screen on time , do you have the Sync enabled ?
Are you on the stock rom ? stock kernel ? any tweaks over there ?

I changed to art over a week ago and didn't see any real difference one way or another with battery. I'm getting between 10 and 13 hours screen time with 2 emails syncing every 30 minutes, nothing else synced, I don't use Google + and Wifi always on.
I changed back from art today as I was having some problems installing a couple of apps. They would download but not install. I'll see if there's any difference in battery now.
Battery life is a few hours better, I would recommend using it.
I just got a Nexus 7 this Christmas and kept it on Dalvik for 2 days, then switched over to ART just because I was bored . I decided that I would keep it because all my apps were running very stable and fast, and my battery life was a few hours better.

Works fine with my Poetic Slimline.
Battery life is great so far on ART, no weird app problems for me yet.
I'm experiencing a significant drop in standby time. I get around a day of standby time. This is when the wifi and sync are turned off. I've factory reset my N7 and I'm now on Dalvik to see if it makes a difference.

It does give a little more battery life, but even stock apps behave weird sometimes, very rare but i think ill stay away until ART is stable.
I just noticed that I couldn't switch to ART after rooting my device. Is this a restriction that Google has put in place?

Xposed framework was the culprit. I uninstalled it and now I'm able to switch to ART. ART+Greenify is giving me over 10-12 hours of screen time and awesome standby. I don't miss my iPad anymore.

After only a few hours after all night charging, I'm down to 50%. I went back to the thread to ask for help only to find out its been locked. I've tried to run the Media Battery Drain Fix thingy in the BajaRom settings app, but it force closes for some unknown reason. I'm not sure if this would fix my problem or not. Anybody have any suggestions?
Hi, I'm currently running the BajaROM July 4th, I have no problem and did you do dirty installation it might be causing the problem. It might be one of your app kept wakelock that causing eat battery life.
Have you tried using battery wakelock detector app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector). It helps diagnostic why your battery life goes crap.
Here my recent screenshot battery life.

Thanks for the response. I did a clean install. This was my first rom other than bean's, since I used the beans method to come over to the rooted KK. Before that I was on 4.3 rooted running clean rom. I was disappointed to find out that Scott had stopped supporting his work there, but glad to move on to KK and find these new roms.
I did install the app you mentioned. The biggest hog shows to be Google search. I force closed it, but it restarts itself. I would think it needs to run pretty much all the time to function anyway, is it really a huge power consumer, or just runs alot? I used to always run my screen on full brightness, and I could still make it through the day just fine. I've put it on auto now, and it seems to be helping the battery quite a bit. But something must be different. I know that it uses alot of juice, but I've always kept it turned up and not had this problem until now
Hi, I would suggest you take Google search disable via application manager under the settings. It should stop the wakelock.
Here screenshot
Thanks very much for your input! I will give that a try. Does google search work differently on this version? I've always used it before and not had these problems. Its a handy tool, I hate to lose it. But if thats what it takes, its better than a dead battery I suppose
I never use Google search feature but if you hate to lose the feature then leave enable. It is up to you and I'm getting good battery life come out on BajaROM. ?

I'm running it on rom slot 1. I used the beans rom with the "built in root" to upgrade to kitkat. So beans is still in the stock slot.
If I can figure out how, I'll post the screenshot of my battery from yesterday. It was 9ish hours. Not sure if that seems good or not, but its WAAAY worse than it used to be. And I've uninstalled google search. And I'm running auto brightness, and its much dimmer. It seems better, but still not what it used to be. Not sure if it matters, but I may have had something set up wrong. I've never uninstalled google search, but when I did, it reset my home screen icons like I had just booted the phone for the first time, resetting hangouts as the default sms app, etc. Wouldn't have thought google search had much to do with that
Interesting side note, I'm using my windows based work computer to type these responses today, running google chrome web browser, and it keeps flagging google as misspelled by spell checker. lol

Hi smaberg,
I was wondering if you are on the Euro 815 version of the G4? Based on your post I'm guessing you are? As a guy who knows what he/she is doing, I was wondering if you could make a flashable zip of the version d firmware? I have a mac and my understanding is you need a pc for the LG flash tool?
Figured I would ask and would greatly appreciate if you could help!!
Do you have the same set of apps installed as you did before the firmware and resets?
I saw better battery results on my second G4 vs my first, some of which I assume was because I installed a lot less apps on the second unit. Which seems reasonable to me.
What device is the OP using?
Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk
I'm on international 815 (Euro).
Still using the exact same apps(didn't use LG backup Restore as it brings back the old draining Barry problem from my old backup).
And NO I can't make an zip, as it would skip some important steps. I mean I can make it, NO problem, but then you will end up with the exact same problem add the old.
hey Smaberg, can you outline the step to flash the new version? I'm using 815, but since i'm residing in Asia, my phone is not seeing any upgrades.
Yeah i also like to get exact steps you made to flash

I know, but compared to before, with only 2 hours, sometimes even less worth stock a and b I'm pretty ☺ happy, now I'm going to deactivate some junk and see the results, and when I'm done I'll share it.
I'm trying to get the best battery without root, then with root and some of mine scripts and files mod. And we'll see where we stand. In the end maybe an ROM pure made for battery as in the old days. If some still want this? I thought/think people mostly want bling bling and speed...

Hi,
I would definitely be interested in a battery life based ROM. I find that premium phones have more than enough power you need (if youre not a gamer) so as long as the UI is smooth battery life is more important to me.

For the love of god, I was so excited about the S7 and the bigger battery life... I used to get seriously bad battery life out of my Note Edge and with the S7 I was excited I'd finally get a good battery life.. I figured they learned their lesson on battery optimization...
I was wrong....
I'm getting REAL bad battery life out of my S7 and so is my wife. I don't know what to do anymore. I was on the "post your battery life" thread and took up on people's advice and used the package disabler to disable several apps/bloatware, installed greenify to force "aggressive doze" but my phone is just CHOMPING down on the battery. I took some screenshots of GSAM, so I'm hoping someone could help me out...
I might do a factory reset and see how that goes, but I don't think it's going to help anything...
Please please help me. I'm wishing I got the AOSP phone from google now... I do love the water resistance and low light camera (and OIS) though so I would hate to let that go!

I'm gonna do that now. Phone is charging so I can do it...
I just don't get it though. The phone is so new, why should I have to do this?
Where is the "clear cache" thing done from recovery? how do I get to it?

What apps would cause this? It's not like I have some crazy apps. if you look at the GSAM screenshot, they are barely drawing any power. It's everyday apps most of us use.
I don't have anything out of the ordinary
How long have you had your phone? Mine took 5 days before the battery started workign well

Gonna do these now.... Let's see what happens. Sucks you can't use the wifi for location reporting though!

You can. Just turn it off until you get your battery under control. Once your battery becomes stabilized then slowly turn things like that on.

100% no it does not.
I have found that although connecting to my home wifi is fine, connecting to the guest wifi at work eats my battery. I now just use my mobile data connection at work. I could see this by using the other graph on gsam and turning the wifi off made a clear and significant change at work but not at home

OK well I did the factory reset and only put the apps I use (which are actually a decent amount from home automation to banking etc)
Android OS is higher compared to what I disabled with package disabler, but we'll see what happens. I'll come back to report in a few days.

You can try to enable the "Smart Network Switch" - there is an option somewhere in Wi-Fi settings. This enables the mobile data if the Wi-Fi connection is unstable/weak, so it avoids eating your battery but at the same time you can benefit from Wi-Fi when possible.
What is shown at App usage in Gsam? Anyways, have you got that since the beginning. If yes and you used smart switch set your device up as a new, also had cruel battery life at first, but after setting the device up from scratch (also set it up as new device at the play store and didn't restore) it got pretty neat.
I thought it was established that package disabler actually made battery life worse on the s7? I was originally using it when I first got the phone and my battery life took a significant dive. Once I uninstalled it and disabled google/samsung reporting as well as wifi/bluetooth scanning, it has solved everything. I am able to get a solid day and 4 hours out of one charge of my s7 Edge.

I use it and it works fine for me. I think it has to do with which packages you disable.
TMO is pushing version PC8 now and reddit users are claiming that the battery drain is fixed. Hope VZW follows soon!

be nice if they fixed the crappy FFC too. they say video improvements, so maybe they fixed the snapdragons problem with 240fps slowmo and choppy 60fps 1080p too

You mean it is fixed in the TMO update? If so, really hoping for a fix in the VZW one whenever that comes...
It will be fixed with the next Samsung update...TMO just pushed PC8 to their users... Now they love the Phone. International users have had it a while and PC9 has been spotted in China. Good time are coming cause the performance sucks on PB5.

so who has proof ffc was fixed? sorry, but some random guy on a forum saying it has without showing any proof isn't really proof enough.
especially when I think it was phandroid.com that did an article saying slow motion still isn't fixed with that update...

My new S7 has better battery life than the POS Note 4 i traded in, usually the battery is depleted by the time i get home from work every single day in the last 2 years, now I have 50% left with the new S7, loving it.
I just picked up an s7 on Saturday. I'm not impressed with the battery life so far. Android system is the top battery consumer. I came from the nexus 6p and Android system was never high on the list. Also, it doesn't show up as a top battery consumer on my girlfriends s6.

I REALLY like this phone size, speed, screen, camera, etc. Almost everything is great, which is saying a lot because this is my first non-rooted phone and I was nervous about it. I've disabled the Verizon and Samsung apps I don't care for, so I am good there. The problem is, battery life is pretty bad considering how much it was raved. My LG G3 could easily get the same battery life/SOT. I'm on wifi 85% of the day, good signal strength, yet I barely can get 2.5-3hrs screen time and ALWAYS have to charge during the day. Like others, the Android OS is what's killing my battery. I am within my 14 day return window, and I am starting to think the issues won't be fixed, so it might be time to consider a different phone. Hoping for some help or suggestions here.
Just got this phone yesterday this is my first cycle. I'm not sure why you're getting 2.5-3 I almost got 6hrs and all LTE too... Mostly gaming and browsing some streaming YouTube to my car with blutotooth. I'm very impressed so far even though Android system still showed up on mine as a top consumer. I'll try to get 6hrs screen time if I turn on power saving maybe

+1 my battery usage looks a lot like this
Looks about right. That's what I get. It's great battery life for usage. People just get paranoid about Android system using power in standby. Hopefully the next update Congress to Verizon soon and helps the battery get even better.

Did you guys do any disabling? Do you have push email or push exchange, location, etc? I have moderate battery life - about 2.5 hrs SOT on a 17-18 hr charge cycle. I would expect to get better SOT if I used it more often, but obviously at the expense of overall battery life.
I think Android System hides a long t of battery hogs - I think lots of apps will wake the phone to sync or perform background activity or notfy, which gets caught as Android system.

Disabling apps that aren't really needed really help in my opinion with battery life. Disabling location history helps. Turning off some of those unneeded wifi search settings helps too. I turned off the always on display. I think my record was something around 4 hours of screen on time. Using the gear s2 smartwatch I got in the mail from Verizon really decreased my battery life. I am exploring ways to fix that since i really like the watch.
