[GUIDE] Skip tracks with volume key on any stock ROM - Galaxy S III Mini General

Hello guys! I just bought this phone like 3 days ago and this is my first post here on the S3 Mini forums :good:
So, with all my Sony phones I always had a mod to skip tracks back and forward using long press on volume keys. And not having this on my Galaxy S3 Mini was really bugging me out. I often use my phone while running and having to stop each time I wanted to skip or repeat a track was reeeeally annoying.
I verified that this device has no such mod on this forums. I looked on Galaxy S3 forums and tried some of their mods and none of them worked.
So today I found a really easy way to have this, without having to mod anything: using Xposed. This will work on any Stock ROM. Here is what you need to do:
Download Xposed Framework from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Install the apk
Open Xposed Installer and hit Install/Update
Reboot your phone
Download and install Tweakbox: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629653
Open Xposed Installer, go to Modules tab and check Xposed Tweakbox
Open Tweakbox, go to Miscellaneous, and check Skip tracks with volume
Reboot your phone
Done! Now you have a working system to skip tracks using volume buttons. Hit thanks if I helped you, and don't forget to thank the original developers for each one of the two apps! :silly:

HOW TO Install CM 10.2 (Android 4.3) for Razr M (xt907)

I am running CM 10.2 by Skrilax - http://skrilax.droid-developers.org/cm10.2nightly/razrqcom/index.php?device=xt907 (Might be fine with the DHacker version also, but this is what I used.
Pretty much everything seems to work including GPS. I do not have Bluetooth anything so I can't speak to that. Some (maybe most) people seem to have difficulty getting it installed, but it can be done. There are a few tricks to it. Here's what worked for me:
I highly recommend using TWRP 2.6.0 as that's what I use and I know it works. Not sure whether other recoveries will function the same or not.
What you need:
1. The most recent version of CM 10.2 from the link above.
2. Gapps Core 4.3 - http://goo.im/devs/BaNkS/GApps 4.3
3. Root for 4.3 - http://download.chainfire.eu/342/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.43.zip
1. Erase everything except the external sdcard. Do it three times. (Don't ask, just do it.)
2. Also Format Data - what the heck, do that 3 times too.
3. Install the CM 10.2 ROM, wipe dalvik and cache again and reboot into the system. DO NOT install anything else at this time for best results.
4. Let the OS boot all the way to the desktop.
5. Unlock the developer options by going into Settings\About Phone and tapping 8 times on Build number. (Only needs done one time, updates do not hide it again.)
6. In Developer options, change Root Access to "Apps and ADB". (Go ahead and set up whatever else you want in Settings.Do not install any apps or updates at this time.)
7. Reboot into Recovery. Install Gapps Core 4.3
8. Clear dalvik and cache and reboot into System. If it hangs on the Motorola logo, get back into Recovery and format data again. (This is why I said don't install apps or updates yet.)
9. Once the phone boots all the way, reboot into Recovery again and install Root using Supersu 1.43.
10. Clear dalvik and cache and reboot into System. If it hangs on the Motorola logo, get back into Recovery and format data again. (This is why I said don't install apps or updates yet.)
11. Once System has booted, you can update SuperSu in the Google Play Store. The first time you open it, it will want to update the binary. It's very important that you choose the option to do it from Recovery. Your phone will reboot into Recovery, update the binary and then boot back into System.
12. Once all this is done, so are you. Restore your apps, allow Google Play to do any updates, and customize the layout to your tastes.
Note: Once you get a successfully installed 10.2 setup, you can dirty flash the nightlies. Always clear dalvik and cache. And always backup your apps before flashing anything if you want to make your life easier.
ENJOY!!!
Going to give it a go with CWM I'll let you know how it goes.
Well I got the rom to work but I could not get it to boot after loading gapps. I tried wiping data but no joy!
Hey, Thanks for the very clear update instructions - I'm now on CM 10.2!
I am not able to successfully root though. SuperSU complains:
"There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!
If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manualyl re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device!"
I have tried to reflash the SuperSU zip posted here multiple times to no avail...
Thoughts?
EDIT: Solved with http://download.chainfire.eu/345/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip
Flashed TWRP and I was able to get it up and running having the same issue with root going to try the file above and I'll update again.
edit
*** the supersu 1.51 file worked for me as well. ***

I'm still having issues. I got the root to work but everytime I reboot the device I have wipe data or it hangs on the boot logo.

Restored back to carbon rom 1.8. I may try again after a few more dailies are out. As this is my primary device I can not have the issues I saw. Admittedly it may be something that I did wrong and not the rom.

Got this up and running last night and no issues so far for me. I'm wondering though if any custom kernels work with 10.2? I was curious about the vanquishpuppiesn12 kernel.

You must not have followed every step exactly. The process I outlined works flawlessly if it is followed exactly. I'm glad you were able to resolve it though. You ended up with the same result and that's what matters!

can you confirm if rear mic is working when taking videos? this has been the only hangup for me on the 4.2.2 ROMs...
I doubt it, since that functionality is probably kernel related, but still just curious...
thanks!
Ok I noticed that I had somehow installed the wrong TWRP I installed 2.6.0 today and I have so far had good luck phone is up and running and seems to be stable. At first I had some issues with a few apps throwing errors during the mass install when I sync'ed with Google but a manual download after and they installed just fine. Also the new camera app called focal has some issues for me it opened and took pics but images in gallery are blank. However the stock camera app seems to working fine at least for stills I have not tried video yet.
I've got this all working too, including root. But I've been noticing about a second delay when pressing power to unlock the phone. Sometimes it delays so long that I press power again. So when the phone does wake up, the screen goes off again from my double press of impatience. I'm running the 0907 nighlty

FWIW, never needed to wipe data multiple times and I flashed everything at once. That said, still a good procedure to follow
Also, @georgeascott, that's a known bug. It tends to SOD on occasion... Not much to do to fix except maybe overclocking

Any plans for safe strap support? My bootloader is apparently permanently locked. Stock isn't terrible.. You can disable and hide bloatware.. But it would be really nice to have pie instead of soft buttons and restart and screen shot on the power menu

Probably not, but you can get some of that functionality with root alone if you know how to mod systemui and stuff like that. Probably not the answer you're looking for but that's probably what it is...
Can always hope someone will Dev for it though

everything I've run into *works*
but it all doesn't work so smoothly
Scrolling and everything is kind of choppy, I mean it is definitely livable, but still choppy.
netizenmt,
Thx a lot for your help. I`m now on cm10.2, too.
But there seemed to be some bugs.
1.I cannot install any apps from Google Play Store, or it hangs on the MOTO logo after reboot.
2.I can take calls, but cannot reach the 3G network.
P.S.When I try to use QPST to configure the phone, the QPST tells Serious error encountered, write to phone aborted.
I've installed CM10.2 two weeks ago and everything is working great! The first time I flashed it I got stuck at the CM boot animation... After ten minutes spent watching it I forced it to reboot: stuck again. At this point I booted back to recovery, followed thoroughly netizenmt instructions (wipe three times, really!!!), installed CM10.2, Installed gapps, installed supersu v1.43 and so on (follow all the steps netizenmt told us!)... Everithing worked fine then. At this point I changed build.props to make the phone works in GSM mode.

If you go to settings/developer options and scroll down to HW overlays. Check the box to disable HW overlays. That should help with the tearing/chopping.
Also, maps FC all over the place as soon as you're using GPS.

First you root using ioroot 25. It's extremely easy and there are instructions in the thread. Then I suggest using AutoRec to install TWRP 2.7. Again, very easy and instructions in the thread.
Then when you are ready to install the rom, you reboot into recovery. If you don't have an app or mod to do it for you, then you can do it manually. Turn off your phone, then hold volume down and power button till the lg logo appears. When that happens, you release the buttons and immediately hold them again. You will see a window asking if you want to factory reset your phone (as long as your recovery is properly installed, then there's no need to worry). Press power 3 times and it'll boot into recovery.
Now you can install your rom. The rom thread probably have instructions as well. It's probably something like wiping dalvik, system, data and cache. Then install the zip(s).
I hope this helps. I didn't go into too much details because there's already instructions in the respective threads and it's usually fairly straight forward and most screw ups can easily be fixed. Just remember to double check anything you install matches and is compatible with your specific model so you don't brick your phone. That's all. You should be fine.

I'm glad to hear that.
Edit: I actually forgot something in the "guide". A bit of an oversight from me. Always make nandroid backups. They can be a huge life saver. It can be done within the recovery... Or the easier way: install online nandroid backup. You can also schedule backups with that.

With update GPS works again
After I flashed the update my GPS works again. Lost it a few days ago for unknown reason. Tried everything. Even ODIN back to stock- still no GPS. Tried everything else I could read in XDA as well. Nothing worked.
But after flashing the latest update my GPS is working again. Awesome. No other issues that I have come across.

Getting Samsung screen, starting apps, then back to Samsung screen. Any solutions? (ROM slot 1 safestrap 3.75)
Has anyone else tried the pin lock?
I moved from maple leaf and now on a fresh boot, the pin lock is not enabled so you can just swipe to unlock. If after a boot you wait a bit for the screen to time out, then the pin lock is enabled. Before the first screen timeout, the power button does not lock the screen either.
Thanks for all your hardwork devs.

Is any one having the same problem or just me?

Hi, I did it to work the long back kill button... on GF 4.1
Works for me the option to kill apps featuring wanam, I added the option to hold the back button to kill apps but this works with the menu button and not the back button...
Ok when we pressing the menu button the Super User ask me to accept a premise [Android System UID] but we will not be acceptable, since we cannot stop the countdown and we ended up giving the Super User...
As we turn to try and hold the Menu button and when the Super User asks us to accept the premise [Android System UID] you do this, blocked the screen normally and unlocked again, but this will froze and we cannot access our phone, (Well, do not despair ...) the display will work again once the Super User countdown ends, we will not see it, but do not despair...
Once you can access your phone, will still ask for the Super User permission to accept [Android System UID] and time accept the permission.
And now we have running the menu button to kill our apps.
I hope you can understand my explanation because my English is not good... And I hope to help ... For me it works great, I have found this method to see the [Android system UID] does not let me guarantee the permission, and I did this so its works…
Good luck…
Stock S5 Power Button Menu
Hi,
I'm trying to get a stock S5 look (with all the S5 features) on my S4. This is one of few ROMs that I really like, but I'm trying to make the 'power button menu' or the 'reboot menu' to look stock.
Can someone help me with making the 'power button menu' look stock (or minimal)?
Without using xposed framework, maybe by replacing .apk or resource files somewhere in /system?
By stock, I mean without extra features like "Mobile Data Mode, Take Screenshot, Flashlight, etc"
I've attached photos to show what I'm trying to accomplish.
Is there a way to change the soft key actions?
When I try backing up the Rom, I get a error message saying cannot backup /data

How to run ROM on stock Touchwiz kernel?
I really like this ROM for the GS4, I just wish there were some things I could change on my phone!
(I'm using a t-mobile m919, on stock 4.4.2 NB4 bootloader)
It is possible, (and how) to run this ROM using stock Touchwiz m919/i9505 kernel and bootloader.
I've tried installing it using AT&T (safestrap) and no kernel flash, it runs but WiFi Cannot turn on.
I've tried installing it using m919 and no kernel flash, it gets stuck on boot animation.
It works using the two custom kernels, but it is possible to run this ROM on stock m919 or i9505 kernel?
(And has anyone figured out how to make the "power button menu" look stock/minimal?
I feel like I'm going to accidentally hit "Data network mode," "Airplane mode," or "emergency mode" every time I try to mute the volume using the power button. I would like to get rid of those options if possible)
So i have been having some call issues.
Sometimes when someone calls or when I call we cannot hear anything on either lines.
Only way to fix this is restarting my phone.

changing musicfx back and forth didn't change the sound. but I know that the sound changed following the instructions and adding permissive option on selinux so maybe removing the file from the directory affected this?

Does viper4android give us system wide audio control? Such as allowing us to change the gain on the top/bottom speakers?
Edit: Dw I found out it does. Just need to root and get it now then.
I'm having constant problems keeping this working. I did everything told in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63486621&postcount=7 yet every other day I get the issue of going into Google Music, playing music, and when I try to go to settings to get to Viper EQ, the music stops and Viper tells me all of a sudden that the driver isn't installed again (when it definitely was and was working fine).
Also, lately when I go into the SELinuxModeChanger app, it shows Enforcing is chosen, even right after I change it to Permissive. It keeps changing back on its own, even after root permissions are granted.
This wasn't happening until recently.
Running Elemental X's kernel if that matters.
Any ideas?
So I couldn’t wait any more so this weekend I rooted and got my Viper ON. Viper is one of the main reasons that I root. This is what I did:
1) I get TWRP and rooted by doing this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
2) Now that I’m rooted, I get busy box working
3) I didn’t need to change my SEL Mode by doing this.
4) I Boot into TWRP and I flashed the attach zip. “ViPER4Android-supolicy.zip”
5) Disable MusicFX and then I went into system/vendor/etc and killed “audio_effects.conf”
6) Open Viper and install best Driver
7) I had to re-flash the zip 2-3 times without wiping before I got it working.
Now my 6P is on MDB08M, Crypted, enforcing mode with TWRP and rooted with Viper.
edit: here more info about the the attached zip:

4) I Boot into TWRP and I flashed the attach zip. “ViPER4Android-supolicy.zip”
5) Disable MusicFX and then I went into system/vendor/etc and killed “audio_effects.conf”
6) Open Viper and install best Driver
7) I had to re-flash the zip 2-3 times without wiping before I got it working.
Now my 6P is on MDB08M, Crypted, enforcing mode with TWRP and rooted with Viper.
edit: here more info about the the attached zip:

[How-To] Install Xposed Firmware without Custom Recovery

Now that we have Root, we have access to many more things, one being Xposed. Xposed is a firmware that lets you customize your device even more than with root alone.
This guide has been adapted from this guide: http://www.andromods.com/apps-mod/easy-install-lollipop-xposed-framework-without-twrp-cwm-recovery.html
Download the xposed files from here: Latest Lollipop ARM Xposed and Material Design Xposed App (Unofficial)
Sign up for beta for FlashFire here: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/eu.chainfire.flash
Download FlashFire
Grant superuser to FlashFire
Press the "+" in the bottom right corner.
Choose “Flash ZIP or OTA” menu, and keep the “Auto-mount” option unchecked then tap checkmark icon to continue.
Choose the zip you downloaded.
Press the lightning button to start
Wait for it to finish and reboot
Install the apk.
Profit
Hope that helps!
Reserved for modules that work.

I've got the YouTube ad away, Google play store changelog, boot manager, YouTube background playback.
All working. Need to try greenify, gravitybox, wanam exposed, but fear incompatibility...
This is great for Swype enhancements, to replace that awful amazon keyboard, and for Pandora Patcher.
Thanks

How do you replaced the keyboard?
It worked great, took a bit to install though, it displayed Fire installing update for a bit but that's normal, anyways the guide worked perfectly.

You can replace the keyboard on a stock Fire without root the same way you do on any other device: Install the new keyboard and then set it to default in the input settings. In fact, installing Google Keyboard was one of the first things I did.

Gravitybox LP works for most things, and on the things it does not work on, those don't brick the device. I think Gravitybox is safe to use. Haven't tried Wanam Exposed or Greenify.
Just to Inform
Installed MinMinGuard and it Works....
can anyone try APM+ if it works? I didn't root the tab yet but planning on to later.

It does not, as the tablet does not have a power menu, just a Shut Down script. APM+ will work when we get custom ROMs.

Huh, it worked for me and everyone else... Maybe you did it wrong or the Zip was corrupted. Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3238740
