[Q] S Health Calibration? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

S-Health's pedometer is pretty much useless. Is there anyway to calibrate it?

Have you updated the app? Try that first if you haven't. It updates under the Samsung app store, you have to log into your Samsung account first before it will let you update.

Mine is very accurate. I've measured my distan c.f. e walked with an odometer and it matches my s-health numbers. I also used it on a treadmill the other day and distances matched also.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Sometimes, it's amazingly accurate. I'll run exactly 3 miles and it tells me I've gone 3 miles. Another day, I'll run 4 miles and it says I've gone 400 steps. I wonder if it has to do with how it's positioned on the body or something like that?

I use mine on my hip in a holster. Never had a problem.

Make sure your gyroscope is calibrated also.

i only find it inaccurate when its in my front pocket and my leg starts twitching, which counts those as steps...which there was a way to stop that

Hi All and thanks for the responses.
I did recently recalibrate the gyroscope and it did not help. I usually hold my phone in my hand while running. Is that a bad thing to do? What is the best position?
I downloaded Accupedio (?) and it was far more accurate than S-Health.

I wear my phone in an armband on my bicep, and as I said, that's not terribly accurate. This morning, I ran 3 miles and it currently says that I've gone 317 steps, most of which were probably between my car and my desk. I'm going to guess that it works a lot better in my pants pocket than it does on my arm.
Of course, I don't really care about the accuracy of S-Health. If I wanted to accurately track my runs, I would use MapMyRun. If I was concerned with tracking steps, I'd get something like a Fitbit.

I've given up on S Health. I have it updated and yesterday had the phone in my back pocket on the treadmill and it was still way off. I had Accupedo running also and it was very close to what the treadmill said.

Temperature and humidity sensors

Now that the GS4 has been around for a couple of weeks I was wondering how well these sensors work and whether anyone has found interesting use cases. Any interesting new apps which use them ?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS50aGVQYXplLkFtYmlhbmNlIl0.
The Ambiance app is a great start and a must-have app for these new sensors. This would be a great thread to monitor the progress of the collection of appsvthat make creative use of specifically these thee new sensors of temp, pressure, and humidity. As far as I know, Ambiance is the first and only right now.

Speaking of cases... do they compromise sensors?
Question: how accurate is the temperature sensor when measuring the surrounding temperature? Does the device heat interfere with it or is there a workaround for this problem?

I personally find the sensors inaccurate, but that might just be me. In rooms I've felt cold it told me it should be warm, and vice versa. Maybe that's just me, but I think the heat of the device is interfering quite a bit.
For me it's about 5 degree's out comparing to 2 a digital and an old style thermometer I have.

The sensors work well in general. Temperature one is pretty accurate (within half a degree) AS LONG AS the phone is doing nothing and you are not holding it. Touching it or heat from the CPU/GPU do affect the result up to 5-8 ºC. The hygrometer I don't know how accurate it is, seems to vary quite a lot. And the barometer is very accurate.
You can have a look at the raw data from the sensors using "SensorGuru" from the Play market.
Cheers.

I was just about to reply to you with a screenshot It reads 21.6 for me now and my "el cheapo" digital thermometer says 21.9 so I guess they're both not too far from the true temp. A case can def keep some of the heat and distort the reading of course. I ignore where the measuring point is located.
It's quite cool to have all these sensors, makes you feel better for spending 500GBP on it haha. Peace!

LG G2 Shutter Speed...compared to HTC One?

Ive got a Nexus 5 and an HTC one and I like the nexus but the shutter speed is just un acceptable to me , trying to take pictures of my son is impossible with the nexus 5. Can anyone comment on the shutter speed, have you taken pictures of people moving , do they always turn out blurry? thanks

Have you tried the sport scene? The thing with the G2:s camera seems to be that you really have to choose the right scene to take good pics in every situation.
I find this acceptable, because every scene is optimized and gives the best performance for the occasion instead of one for all that is mediocre.

Hello Xda members, I currently have i9300 (S3) and willing to go for a high end phone, I am amazed with Note 3 specs and S-pen, but shocked about how people say both N9000 and N9005 lag and they drop frame while playing games, would like to know your opinions and recommendations for other phone to buy, thank you in advance.
No lag or dropped frames ever for me, only game I play is Dead Trigger 2 and it runs perfectly.
By the way, why are you posting here if you want a recommendation for a device that isn't going to be a Note 3??

No lag on my device.
Ever since I use it on MJ7 4.3 stock non-rooted, NB7 4.4.2 stock non-rooted and rooted, NC2 custom ROM. All no lagging, and to be frank eversince 4.4.2, the device even smoother.
The best phone in my opinion of all Samsung phone currently, in terms of smoothness and battery. You won't regret to buy. If your country have N9005 (LTE), you better by this one, as snapdragon has more support on this Note 3 forum, because more ppl use it compare to the exynos. But if your country only have N900, then no choice.
PS :
If you ever buy it, first thing that you have to do is download the multitouch test app from google play, and try to touch by 10 fingers (and try to move the 10 fingers around the screen. The 10 fingers should be still detected wherever you move them, then your screen is okay). If got problem, return it direct. This Note 3 device has issue with its multitouch screen, other than that, all are good. :good:
Cheers.
The note 3 camera has problems. The wi-fi and/or GPS interfere with it in normal light and mostly in low light conditions showing up as horizontal lines on screen and when you take the picture. I was expecting a much better camera on a 700€ phone and it has made me question if i'll ever buy a samsung product again.
My stylus has been used a total of maybe 3 times. Never touched it again.
The rest is all great.

You pay 700 euro for the phone, not the camera. Do some basic research into sensor chips before you blather on about camera quality in smartphones. I've explained it numerous times.
I have problems with wifi and mobile network on at the same time! I also have problems with lines when taking a photo in low light! It's only a couple of months old could I address these problems if I root and use a custom rom? I love this phone I've had most galaxy's and I wanna keep it should I root?

Actually he has a point, picture quality aside the camera shouldn't have weird artifacts if WIFI or mobile data are on. That is clearly a build issue.

I think we both had a bit of miscommunication there. Most Note 3's had this issue, mine used to as well on 4.3. Since the update NB7 4.4.2 it's gone.

and if you are on 4.4.2 and still have the issue, and you haven't rooted, why don't go to the service center. claim from them, since some of us not experience it (especially after 4.4.2).
But u r on NB7 or later? or earlier? if earlier, try to update to NB7 first, and see how.

Double Tap to Wake?

Does the 6p have the double tap to wake option?
Nope, had seen a video where the presenter absently tried to double tap it, didnt wake up.
Though with ambient display I kinda see why they omitted it.
With the inclusion of the sensor hub hopefully the battery hit stays frugal.

That honestly bums me out, hopefully there'll be a third party app that enables it, I love that feature. I know it's enabled on the Nexus 9, as a Display option, I hope it was disabled.

Not going to lie, I don't plan to use the finger print scanner, I really don't love the though of it being in any form of "confidential / private" (encrypted) keychain.
I hope this can be enabled without using lots of extra battery like it does on the nexus 5. I use a wear watch so the lock screen is off much of the time anyways, so double tapping while the phone is still on my desk would be great. Personally I was not a fan of the ambient display on the nexus 6. So I am sure I will disable that right away.
Will I be able to wake up phone with voice command when screen is locked and and off?
On the moto x, ambient display was awesome and the was never a need for this. On the nexus 6, it just never worked right. I'm hoping sensor hub resolves this and makes it perfect. Combined with the fingerprint scanner I really have no desire for double trap to wake. However, I don't fault others for wanting it. Hey, they threw the LED in there when it was disabled by default, maybe dttw is in there too.

fingerprint unlock doesn't work well if you use your phone while it's on a desk so Double Tap to wake should be a must on almost all new devices.

There’s a lot of familiar territory in the Nexus lineup this year, actually. Like the Ambient Display, which blinks with the time and notifications when you pick up your phone or turn it over; that’s lifted basically intact from the Moto X. (The only difference is that the Nexus phones also kick on when you nudge the phone, shifting it slightly on your desk. That’s a nice addition.)

I like it. Screen is nice. Battery life is great (got over 8 SOT first night). It never gets hot. PERFECT size for reading comic books.
Negatives: Might be slightly underpowered. I've felt some lags and frame skipping in the animations. Speaker is not great. Not having root is a (hopefully temporary) drag. "Android OS" is keeping my tablet from deep sleeping and I don't know how to tell what is actually keeping it awake.

Sorry to be so off topic here but after using the tablet for a few more days I can say the only game it really "struggled" with (frame skipping) was Lara Craft Go. I've played Limbo, KotOR and others since and only ever caught the occasional lag. I'm very impressed with the Snapdragon 617, so impressed I ordered a Moto G that uses the same chip.
Can you play 60fps video in YouTube? Mine doesn't display it as an option (will only go up to 480p in videso with 720p/60fps and 1080p/60fps

Check the source code here:http://opensource.lge.com/osSch/list...LL&search=v521
There used to be v10b source code and it disappeared two days ago. Today there is source code for a newer version v10c: LGV521WG_Marshmallow_Android_V521WG_v10c.
So it means we should be able to root our tablet once anyone pulls the new firmware v10c.
Update: I just checked system update, and there is an update with size of 452.5 MB, which would be automatically downloaded between 11 pm and 4 am.
Vola....
