[Q] Favorite S4 ROM? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

What is your favorite ROM whether it's Touchwiz based or Stock Android based. Need suggestions for a ROM to be dedicated to so i can use it as my daily driver. Keep in mind that I have a Canadian S4 (SGH-I337M) which is compatible with most GT-I9505 ROMs. Thanks for the suggestions.

I love CM10, however the current nightlies have a few bugs. Such as calls not works, and the MMS app always lists your message as "sending".
What I've done temporarily was install a GE ROM, and manually put the CM10 MMS and Apollo apps into the system folder so I don't lose them.

WOW!
1. Your question is in the wrong sub forum...Q & A?
2. No "best" or "Favorite" threads are allowed.
3. Unless you have a physical condition which requires you to post large font to see....just why?????

I assume that you're asking which rom is best?
No one rom trumps all other roms. It really comes down to personal preferences. Try them out (safety) and see for yourself.

I'm only using TW roms for the moment. I normally use AOSP roms, but this is the only rare occasion where my current phone software is up to date with aosp. Meaning that both are on 4.2.2. You really have to try each one for yourself to see what works best for you. If I decide to run an AOSP rom, it would be Task360's AOKP. He is a developing machine. Cranks out at least 2 updates a week to improve functionality. As far as TW roms go, Scott just brought clean rom over to the S4. I'm loving Mint jelly by Nottach right now. Development is high right now.

Same here. So far all the roms I've tried are TW based. I've tested MDOB which is very good... Currently I'm on Shostock which also smooth.
Haven't tried AOKP / AOSP as of yet..
nice this is the first one i tried and i really like it [ROM][4.2.2][June 2] Slim Bean jflteatt [build 6] - LOKI patched... the dark theme plus all the at&t stuff removed. wasn't asking what's the best just looking for opinions. i know "best" is just preference.
thanks for the feedback
FYI, I believe it is Task650 not 360.
Task650 AOKP Rom. While roms are subjective to the user, I use his rom because of I'm very familiar with it. Its extremely stable and you can pretty much customize everything in the rom. Not too mention, I love the pure google feel. TW on the S4 left a bad taste in my mouth with how much it freaking lagged.
First: Questions go in Q&A
Second: All ROMs are the best for those that use them. There is no substitute for reading the ROM threads in development

4.3 GE rom.

So I wanted to install a GE 4.3 Rom onto my AT&T S4 however I am finding it difficult to find one due to the fact that there are so many versions of it from different developers. I just want the most stable and most up to date 4.3 GE rom for my S4. I'm still new to the forums so I'm also having some trouble navigating so if anyone could link me to the best or most recommended build of the GE 4.3 rom that would be much appreciated!

There is an entire Google Edition thread in the General section. Check out out and see what most folks over there are using. Cheers
also, you don't list your phone variant/carrier
when flashing the i9505 roms you need to flash the correct carrier kernel
and maybe even loki-doki
sorry if you are already aware of this, just putting it out--
check the original android development tab for this devices forum, many of the roms have updated to 4.3

[Q] S4 Features on Original Android

Hi All,
Sorry if this has been asked before. But I am not able to get a post that answers this.
I just want to know if the standard features of S4 (Air View, Air Gesture etc.) will work on a custom rom like CM, PAC (The original Android Development Roms) ?
I have tried and tested these Roms and they are much more convenient than the TouchWiz Roms.
Anyone has some advise?
Thank You!
not working, because there is not a driver that can use. I believe that infrared is the only one that could works.

You could try the below app, probably as close as you'll get until someone properly ports real the air view/gesture stuff.

If you flash any AOSP rom, youll loose all of the features.
Thanx guys.
Yes, I saw when installing any AOSP like Rom those features doesn't exist anymore. I guess that is part of the sacrifice we need to make in order to use all the other features in CM and AOSP.
Using Omega v13 at this stage and I am very satisfied. But I am addicted to modifying my phone with better, faster and newer stuff. So these AOSP roms give me a much more Original experience and I am loving it!
Thanx for all your assistance!

Looking for a rom that still has S-Pen functionality but on stock Android?

Hey,
been a while since I been here(from back in the days of my Galaxy Nexus). I just picked up a Note 4. I like it. I somewhat dislike the TouchWiz and hate how out of box it's using 1.8-2GB of ram on start up(assuming because of TouchWiz).
Is there any roms out there that run practically stock Android(pref. 5.0 Lollipop?) but still have the S-Pen suite enabled, including the part when I pull my S-Pen out it notices it and gives me that "Air command" menu.
One last plus would be something that gives me the ability to still use fast charge 2.0.
I looked up a couple of roms but unless I missed something they don't offer these features.
Any help? I have the Canadian N910W8 model and use it on Band 4 AWS/UMTS(3G) and LTE on various freq's so the radio would(should, preferably stay in-tacked)
Thanks!
I don't think this belongs in this section man, maybe ask it in the Q and A. It will probably get moved.
On answering your question, at this stage there is no stock aosp rom that supports spen functions. It's a little bit of a dream for most users. Although I hear that lollipop will be faster than stock, that's what I've read.

That's wrong. There is S-Pen functionality in cm12 at this moment. All you have to do is download and install one or two apps from Play Store. This apps are even free.
It is CM S-Pen en Note Buddy. I have installed them myself and S-Pen does work.
Found this the other day https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.steadfastinnovation.android.spenlauncher&hl=en
Im running cm12 with the following
s pen launcher
cm s pen add on
note buddy
papyrus
this gives me basic s pen functions but is more than adequate for my needs

You are not entirely right either. There are free versions of this apps, but for full functionality you have to pay, not that there is anything wrong with it, just stating the fact. Also you have some s-pen functionality, but not all of it, and in my opinion CM12 s-pen functionality is somewhat less fluent and intuitive then TW one. Regardless, I still prefer CM than TW
I would also like to know how is this thread relevant to Development section

Be careful throwing around the word 'wrong'. I did say as far as I know, just trying to help someone out. There is apps you can use with cm or some other aosp roms, but it's nothing like the spen features you get from within TW. Not that I'm a big fan of it myself, I have quite a few gripes myself, *cough* performance... But for the multi window and spen features, presently if you use them all, TW is it for now.

I have the same phone as you. So far LiquidSmooth and the Unofficial CM-12.0 are the only Lollipop builds that can even use the S-Pen (Unless you know of others). You won't get the TW features of course. I'm very slowly looking into building a AOSP Lollipop rom that is custom built for our N910W8 devices. I've never built my own before so it is a lot of learning.

It *should* be doing that. Unused RAM is wasted RAM. It's caching stuff for speed so that the next time it needs to load up something, it can check if it still is in RAM already. It's not a TouchWiz thing.

You can still install it on other versions of the Note 4. Just expect some things not to work. If your running the CAN version of the Note 4 I don't recommend using LS atm due to very poor battery life on this model.

Not a problem!
Has anyone tried converting all the original s-pen apps to user apps with titanium backup, and then doing an app and data backup of them from the stock ROM, installing CM12, and then try to install them?
I'd try it myself, but I'm asking on behalf of a mate, not for myself. I think there's a possibility that it might work. It's gotta be worth a try..
I've got CM12 on my S4, and it's awesome.
Now the omega touchwiz rom are released:
imo the best rom and all features would work like in stock.
try i..maybe what you seeking?

That all depends on how you use your phone. You should try CM12 for a couple of days and see how it goes. I'd be on CM myself but I want to keep all my call logs and messages and the native call recording feature. CM usually uses one third or half of the amount of RAM that TW uses, and has better battery stats in general. But like I said it depends on how you use your phone and what apps you have etc. The only real way to know what rom is best for you is if you try it yourself :good:

I'm like you, and like to keep that kind of stuff. Which are you using?
I've been on OmegaRom since August and it has been great. I am just tired of waiting for Lollipop and wanting to try something new.
If you have the lollipop (for example from the G900W8VLU1BOB3 rom) bootloader and modem you should be able to flash any KLTE rom.
Right now I'm on WanamLite XXU1BOB7 2.4, which is a touchwiz lollipop rom, and I'm happy with it as far as speed, stability and battery life.
Usually I just backup data & cache in TWRP and dirtyflash any new rom without wiping, if it's TW to TW or AOSP to AOSP it usually works.
If not, I either decide that the new rom is worth wiping for or I reflash my old rom and restore data.
BTW official lollipop is out for your model, G900W8VLU1BOB3
