Can we start generating a safe to disable list for the Nexus 10? Or I suppose, a consequences of disabling list would be more appropriate.
I've seen lists for other devices, but usually the lists are filled with manufacturer installed bloatware.
I have disabled Currents, Google Search, and Google+ with no noticeable problems.
I've done youtube, talk, maps, google+, google play movies/magazines/books/music, earth, currents, and exchange services. The strange thing is, some of the start-up processes for these apps are still running. I want to disable NFC and Wallet, but I a few folks mentioned something about corrupting their NFC chip (on other devices), so I'm a little concerned.
If you're rooted, use Titanium Backup to "freeze" them, then they can't start services.
If you don't want to buy titanium backup, and you're rooted, just use a file explorer to rename or delete them in /system/apps

Great, I purchased titanium backup a while ago, but didn't realize that freeze was different than disable in the settings/app menu. Thanks for the info.

I don't think there's a difference between the two
Except not everything you can disable in settings/apps,TB you can freeze anything
But freeze/disable has same effect
Hey guys,
So i recently rooted my phone and cleaned up all the unnecessary bloat apps from Verizon. I'm stumped on one that I can't seem to figure out. Do any of you know how to remove the "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot" app from Settings.
I've successfully deleted the Backup assistant accounts and other verizon settings menus but not that one. Nothing under the list of apps in Titanium Backup points to the tethering menu.

Why do you want to remove that feature? To my knowledge it doesn't use resources unless you turn it on.

I like a clean ROM, I'm never going to use the one they supplied the phone with because it doesn't have many options. I'm using Wireless Tether. Just wondering if anyone knows.
You'd probably have to decompile settings.apk and remove it manually. That wouldn't be easy to do...

Hi everyone,
I tried searching but no luck. I just finished rooting my phone with the Kingo app. I then installed Greenify and Titanium Backup. With Titanium Backup I uninstalled some At&t bloatware and ChatOn. And with Greenify, I hibernated a bunch of apps.
My phone started freezing every 5 seconds and said the Samsung TTS has stopped working, but I fixed that by switching to Google. But now, when I use apps like Reddit is Fun. Feedly, and ESPN, they are unable to connect to the internet. These apps are not hiberated with Greenify. Other apps, like Chrome, are able to use the internet just fine. I reinstalled At&t Smart Wifi and ChatOn from the play store but I'm still having this problem. I would appreciate any help and I would strongly prefer not to factory reset my phone. Thank you.
I've tried with both titanium backup and app quarantine to freeze all unnecessary apps and services that i don't use. But when i launch battery doctor or wakelock detector i still can see that several services that i've frozen is running. For example "Smart screen" "LGInstallService" "Viper4android" "google search app" "slide aside" and so on.. Is this a bug in bettery doctor or are they really running?? If i kill them in battery doctor they disappear but will come back again very soon.
Is there any way to get rid of all the unnessecary services and not have them starting up all the time? Of course i am rooted and running 4.4.2.
I backed up & uninstalled Sprint Connection Optimizer & now I get that message:
"unfortunately, com.birdstep.android.com has stopped"
when ever I turn on my phone!
How can I get rid of seeing that message?
Speaking of which, is there a good FREE Titanium Backup alternative that lets me freeze apps (Titan app only lets me do that if I buy the Pro version).
CCleaner
Reset your phone
