Two days ago, I flashed MF9 and rooted. Today, my phone randomly shuts off and is now stuck in a bootloop. I have changed nothing, other than the MF9 and root. I reflashed MF9, cleared cache and data, and nothing. Any advice?
Bump, I really need help with this
Probably start over clean with MDL. I would Odin the MDL tar, do a factory reset, then reinstall MF9 through sdcard.

Hello. I have a rooted Verizon Galaxy S4 on 4.4.2 and the NC5. I tried to install a mod thing. The instructions on this website said to flash this zip. I used this flash gordon app to flash the zip. Now, my phone will not turn on, It goes past the Samsung screen, but cannot pass the Verizon screen. The animation plays but it just stays on the same screen forever. How can I fix this? Will I have to do a factory reset? Also, is there a way to backup my apps? I just realized that I accidentally deleted my backup yesterday. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
If a cache wipe doesn't work, then you need to reflash the firmware you are on. It won't wipe your system.

Hello and thank you for replying. I wiped the cache both in safestrap and in the android recovery, but my phone is still not turning on. How would I reflash the firmware on my phone? Also, how would I be able to retrieve my files? Would it work if I wipe/factory reset?

You are on the N5 firmware. Then just reflash the N5 firmware for Verizon with Odin.
Factory reset would do nothing more then losing your apps. So you don't have to do that.
Just flash the N5 firmware and you still will have everything. You have to reroot though and probably flash safestrap again but that's it.

Hello. I would like to thank you for your help. I did what you said and found the firmware and successfully reflashed the N5 firmware using instructions on a website. Although I already did make the mistake of factory reseting and did lose my files . What I flashed claimed to theme my Galaxy S4 like the S5. Since it didn't work, I just ended up installing the Hyperdrive ROM. Thank You and have a nice day.
Well, I had planned on updating to a new custom rom on my safestrap'd NC1 galaxy s4. I rebooted from SHOStock into recovery not thinking... (Bad idea) I then went and wiped all data without realizing I wiped the wrong data. Reboot, go into TWRP, realizing that it wiped the rom/files I needed to flash AFTER I wiped everything. Was going to ADB push the files until I realized that it times out with large files. With no SD card, I was forced to try and boot into the system. No go, now I am sitting with not being able to get into TWRP, but still able to get into regular recovery and download if needed. How should I go about fixing this?
Add: Just going to Odin to stock and reinstall bootstrap.
Recently installed Hyperdrive Rom on my Verizon Note 3. SM-900V, NC4, running KK 4.4.2 prior to this installation.
Followed instructions re flashing back to NC2, Rom installed, everything is good,
BTW, as a part of the process installed SafeStrap, which provided a nice TWRP related recovery.
Did as suggested, a backup through recovery.
subsequently, made a couple of other changes, making a new backup through recovery each time. At present, there are three recoveries in backup.
Now comes the problem...........Decided to restore a prior backup, as instructed, did the full wipe using SS recovery, selected restore file desired, all went well and rebooted phone, only to have it hang once it reached the Bright Red Verizon screen.
Rebooted to recovery, followed the above procedure two other times on the remaining two backups. Same results.
Have wiped (Factory reset) each time in recovery with no apparent success.
Is this now being caused by the fact that I'm @ NC2, rather than NC4?
Would appreciate any suggestions as how I can get back to being able to restore and use any of the prior backups.
As a temporary measure, I went into recovery and reinstalled the Hyperdrive rom but would like to be able to go back in time if possible, and for no other reason to be able to understand just exactly what is causing this issue. Perhaps others have the same and have resolved in some way. A Google search shows that some are suggesting a return to factory settings, i.e. a full wipe through recovery, however I've done that with no success.
Another question, what happens if I also "wipe" the system files as well as dalvic, cache and data? Have hesitated to do that for fear of the unknown consequences

I am essentially having the same problem. I am currently running on Biggins ROM and that had me install a unified verision of the NC2 and NC4 kernels (I came from NC4 prior to flashing). I wanted to go back to stock root and flashed my backup from SS, everything went well so I restarted and just like you the phone just never went passed the Verizon logo screen. So I reinstalled the Biggins ROM and it works fine now but I also want to know what I have to do when I want to install other ROMS or simply go back to stock root.
Dear all
SM-N9005 running stock 5.0. Initially tried CWM n9005-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.7-kk(0125) but couldn't get phone to boot.
Then tried rooting with twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4.img.tar. Successful root but phone kept freezing and crashing.
Went back to stock 5.0 (via ODIN and also again with smart switch)
Now phone keeps freezing and crashing. Sometimes make a loud buzzing noise when it freezes.
Don't know what to do next. Any ideas please?
After flashing back to stock, did you perform a factory wipe before booting the rom for the first time?
Not initially. But i have since. Didn't stop the crashing.
I should add that as the phone rebooted it kept freezing as apps were initialized. So i persisted in restating. Initialized apps didn't need to be re-initialized so each time the phone started the number of apps to re-initialize was less. Eventually the phone reached setup, crashing along the way.
Should i now reflash, then factory wipe then reboot just to be sure?
Some confusion here root is not recovery .
Sugest flashing a recovery and in mounts and storage Format .
System Data Cache .
Boot to download mode and flash stock rom via Odin .
Factory reset once it boots then at least you have clean firmware .
My Note 3 crashed earlier on and wouldn't reboot for anything.
I managed to get into the Recovery Menu and wiped the Cache Partition, but no dice.
I have since reset to factory and re-wiped the Cache Partition, but still no dice.
Now all I get is the music when the logo appears and then the Samsung Logo with the sparkles behind it constantly. Nothing else works, and it doesn't move on after half an hour.
I can't force a reset through Kies, and I don't have any idea what to do now.
The device was originally rooted, I can't remember how. Its been an age since it was done.
Any help or advice much appreciated.
Usual answer .
Flash stock rom via Odin .

Thanks. Was a bigger job than I imagined.
The update via ODIN kept failing, and it turned out I needed a PIT file.
Managed to flash the firmware (which failed), then unplugged and replugged the phone in and then flashed the PIT file.
I then needed to wipe the Cache Partition and reboot (as the Cache wouldn't mount).
Then I needed to re-wipe all files/factory reset, followed by another Cache Wipe.
Now phone is back up and running and I have the great task of recovering everything. Good job we have cloud backups.
Thanks very much for your advice.
