Both my PS3 and Ouya controller will stay on all night while the Ouya is powered on and in standby. The only way to get the controllers to turn off is to power the console completely down. This is the second night my controllers were dead when I went to use them.
The controllers will shut off about 5 seconds from pulling the Ouyas power cord.

That's why I always drag my lazy butt up off the couch and hold that button for 8 seconds. It sucks. But for now at least it's the only way to turn the thing off (Ok, you could push the button for less time and then confirm with the controller...but while I may be able to get my lazy rear off the couch I'm still too lazy to carry a controller with me.)
What's odd though is that your controllers are dead from that. I'm still on the original AA's I put in mine when I got it at the end of May and I've had the controllers stay on overnight several times. I don't have a lot of time to spend playing it and I assume active use of the controllers drains power faster than leaving them on but inactive....but it still seems odd that yours would go dead that quickly.
I think the Ouya controller still has power but my PS3 has been found dead. Although honestly the PS3 controller was probably close to dying and I only charged it for like 30 minute before using it again.
So technically the controllers aren't being fully drained from 100%, but the problem is that the Ouya isn't telling the controllers to turn off after X time of inactivity. So while they probably don't use much power, they are still on and draining.
I have the same concern.

I'm not sure why they're staying on all night, the OUYA controller should time out after I think 10 minutes of not being used, but I have run into the problem of the controller not shutting off when putting it into standby. I even did a hard restart and it still did it. the solution that finally worked was to unplug the battery from the controller. I've left my OUYA on for the majority of a month and it's only happened twice, so hopefully this helps you.

While I understand laziness, holding the button for 8 seconds can cause file errors (although it's not likely) and possibly even a soft brick. Using the controller may save you in the long run =)

The controllers do shut off after inactivity. The problem is the Ouya has a bug when in standby that causes it to wake up when anything happens on the HDMI port. So even if I have my TV on a different input when I turn it on it causes the Ouya to turn on and if the controllers are still on then they end up staying on because the Ouya stays on because I don't realize it's on because I expected it to be in standby.
Ouya is aware of this bug and working to fix it though: http://forums.ouya.tv/discussion/18...ep-mode-by-powering-down-by-controller#latest
If you actually power down the Ouya instead of just putting it into standby then the controllers do end up shutting down after a few minutes.
Hello folks! Well i have my Ouya and PS3 controllers both connected to the Ouya and i only have this issue with the PS3 controller.
My Ouya controller turns off after about 10-20min no matter if the console is on or on standby.
Sometimes i have the problem though, that my PS3 controller is left on when i completely shut down the Ouya and after turning it on it will automatically reconnect as the first controller. This annoyed me several times and i had to carry my PS3 controller out of range...

I have an TF 32GB + docking.
I have shutdown my transformer completey and removed it from the docking.
When I now plugin the powercord to charge it, the tab always starts up. I dont want that. Is that normal behaviour?
Mine does that as well. I may be wrong ,but i think it charges faster when its turned off, so i often turn it off then plug it in. I need to get into the habit of plugging it in , and then turning it off, I guess.

You can't see if AT is fully charged without see the screen so... that's completely normal, dock has a led that tablet hasn't...
-you choose to shut your tablet down
-you plug power in
-now the tablet acts on its own and powers on
then they should also put a small light on the tablet. my god i'm starting to regret my purchase.
if this is by design then they are completely retarded at asus
Annoying... yes... big deal... no.

How is this annoying in any way? It's not like it'll charge a significant amount slower with the screen off, and with the screen off there isn't a single way to see it's on if you're 12 and won't want your parents to find out it's turned on after bed time.
You people will ***** about ANYTHING.
My iPhone and the iPad did the same thing,

Not true. My work wifi SSID isn't broadcasted and I was able to add it to my list and connect easily.
As for the original question...every Android and iDevice I've seen exhibit this behavior.

No, it's one step too many. If I run the battery down on my tablet (which I do fairly frequently), then want it to charge as quickly as possible, I shouldn't have to power it back down every time to achieve that.
I'd like to see this behavior changed, and I'm glad to find I'm not the only one irritated by it.
Don't get me wrong -- love the tab, and own two. That doesn't mean there's no room for improvement, though. There's no logical reason to have the tab turn on instantly on charging. (Seeing the charge level doesn't count as a logical reason, because if you're worried about the charge level, you likely don't want to reduce the charging speed to find out the answer -- you likely want it charging as fast as possible until you're ready to leave the charging point.)
I would guess the behavior likely hails from phones, where it actually makes sense. With a phone, you want it active to receive calls all the time, and so starting when you plug it in is logical. With a tablet, it's simply not. Just something Google forgot to correct in Honeycomb, is my guess.

Well OK, then skip the last step. The display will go right back off by itself within the screen timeout. No big deal. My timeout is set to 2 minutes, so I'd estimate that might add a minute or so to the net charging time, worst case.
Can we consider this a thoroughly dead horse?

No, we can't. The display powering off doesn't power off the tablet. It still runs, and hence still charges slower than it should be. With the tablet running (even with the display off), it charges significantly more slowly, as evidenced by the battery graph which gives a clear indication of charge rate.
And from my experience, it occasionally doesn't charge at *all* when running, even when using the factory charger and factory charging cable. (Not sure why, but it's happened a couple of times, and powering off starts it charging.) That glitch makes it even more important that it doesn't start up when plugged in to charge.

All you did was ***** before you got your TF, now you have it and all you do is still *****. You are everything that's bad about the world.
Because people seem to have their panties in a bunch over this one I checked charging rate powered off vs turned on, and it's only 2% less per hour. That's an insignificantly small difference.
I said it before and I'll say it again, you guys will ***** about ANYTHING.
EDIT: The 2% was measured including the extra battery drain I get from starting up the tablet to check battery level every hour.
I've seen a few people with the exact same problem around the web, but no one has ever posted a solution (if they ever found one).
The kids were playing Angry Birds on the Nook before dinner, when I went to turn it back on after dinner it wouldn't boot (was working when I put it down).
When I plug it in the wall charger the light is always green.
When I plug it into a computer USB port it is momentarily detected as omap 3630 instead of Nook Color like it used to, then windows reports that it's been disconnected.
It had been running CM7 for a few weeks off of emmc, but now I can't even get it to boot from a uSD card into CWM.
When plugged in (computer or wall charger) I can see the backlight turn on and off every few seconds.
No combination of button presses seems to have any effect (power, power+n, power+n+vol+, etc.)
Try holding the power button for a full minute... release and try turning it on again... see if that don't do it.
Thanks for your reply.
I wish that worked, but I don't even see the back light flicker on for a split second unless it's plugged into the wall or a computer.
It's a shame too, I got it as a Christmas present from the wife and our toddlers really loved to play the games on it. They keep asking where "bad birdies" went
Your problem sound similar to an issue I had with charging. I has a bad charger/usb cable. Its a known issue and BN will replace it for free. If you are registered, call BN support a request a new one. I have done this twice. Once when the end bent and a second time when I had a green N but not juice (just flicker and/or a 'plug in the charger' symbol). The NC requires more power than the typical usb charger/cable setup, thus spares usb chargers AND cables around the house do not work.
I hate to do this because it was so maddeningly frustrating to see the same thing posted in the thread about boot problems here and elsewhere, but it turned on today and I have no idea why.
I'd been messing with it for a few days and finally after an unsuccessful morning I left it on my dresser. I was in the kitchen making hot chocolate after playing in the snow with the kids when my two year old comes walking down the stairs with the nook and drops it at my feet. When I went to pick it it, it was in the process of booting. Whether he had done something to it or the short fall jarred something that was loose I can't say, but it now seems to be fine.
It had about 50% battery and the lights on the charging cord now respond like they should.
I have no idea what happened, but I wish I did so I could help others in my boat.
Still could be your charger/usb cable. When the charger/cable start going bad, it takes for ever to charge. Like all day just to get enough juice to boot up. If it dies again and doesnt reboot after its been on the charger for a few minutes or you're only getting a partial charge over night, its the charger and or cable.
It charged fine overnight.
There definitely must be something loose on the inside. If I give it a fairly significant whack (nowhere near a punch, but harder than a tap) it will reboot. I think it was a refurbished unit. The newer units seem to have serial numbers where the first four digits correspond to the year. The first four digits of this one are 2004! Looks like they never fixed what was wrong in the first place.
You just ran it too dead. It won't power on until it's established a decent charge first.

Today I have a really strange issue with my Nexus 10.
I was opening Synology DS File app and streamed a movie from my NAS.
The screen was flikkering all the time and after pressing the power button the screen went black.
When I try to power on the device it doesn't to anything.
I already tried to push power button for 20 seconds, power button + volume UP/DOWN for more then 10 seconds.
Nothing seems to help.
When I put power to my Nexus 10 and I press the power button I see the battery icon led up.
That is the only thing I can do at the moment. Any suggestions how I can get my Nexus 10 hard rebooted/reset?
You can't get the battery out so that a real problem... any suggestions are welcome.
Apparently this was because the battery was empty and I was trying to charge the tablet with a micro usb cable which was not the original.
Hope it can help anyone with the same issue..

a really strange issue
I read that this is a common problem with the nexus 7 when charging with the brick charger but more commonly with USB cable when connected to a computer while the tablet is under heavy use. And since the nexus 10 can definitely drain faster than it can charge then this is more likely to occur with the nexus 10.
What happens is that you completely drain the battery beyond what is normal because the tablet thinks its charging so it continues to allow you to use it instead of powering off like it normally would if the tablet was not plugged in.
I think the fix for your problem would be to plug the tablet in with the wall charger & leave it for at least 30 minutes before you even try to touch it.
Good luck!
Indeed it was solved by charging my nexus 10. However I still find it odd it wouldn't power up while connected to a USB port instead of the wall.
Anyway it is solved now.
If you get a battery monitor widget you can see that a PC USB port charges at a slower rate than the OEM power supply which may have stopped it from powering up.

It has to do with the charging rate. With a computer USB it doesn't charge add fast as the wall charger. When you charge with the USB it is entirely possible to consume more energy than you are gaining (as you noticed with your OP) but the wall charger is much stronger.
It probably didn't start up because the battery was at a very critically low quantity beyond that where your tablet should have automatically powered off. Thus giving you the strange boot problems even when "plugged" in.
Glad your tablet is OK!
Do not run lithium batteries to 0% especially if you aren't going to use the device for awhile. This is because lithium batteries can be bricked if they fully discharge or drop below a certain voltage. A bms or battery management system will prevent this, but because it has to use power to monitor the battery it will eventually become the source of the brick.

MX Player Pro has just released an Android 4.3 compatible version. That player is the only one that played my all HD recordings without stutter and regardless to their audio encoding type. I would try the free version first then move to the Pro if it works for you. You can even find an custom decoding for DTS audio on XDA.

This might be sort of a weird question (and as I've not had a chance to check my firmware numbers, I'm just shooting in the dark)..But has there been a silent OTA released?
The reason I ask it that two nights ago I noticed my MOJO went completely to sleep somewhere around an hour after we stopped playing. No blue light, and my connected hard drive was shut down as well. When I long-pressed my CTRLR, both system and drive came back on.
This never happened prior to this, but it has consistently happened since.
Quirk of my unit? System Failure? Silent OTA?
Anyone else notice this?

My build number is MO0110-ww. I don't think that the mojo will auto update. It to my understanding that you have to download an update manually like the link that is inside the mojo app and then use the update firmware app to install. Have you checked your sleep settings in the settings app. Yours could have been set to a long period of time. I have mine set to 1 day because I usually just unplug mine when I'm done because don't want to wait for the sleep to kick in to turn off the annoying blue light when I watch TV. The mojo will act like you said when it does sleep though. You might look under settings, display and see if that is what it is.
Strange. Mine has NEVER turned off (I plugged it in Christmas Eve) and have only unplugged when swapping out memory cards and hard drives. The light has always stayed on and the hard drives never shut down. Then all of a sudden the other night both happened. Freaked me out and I immediately long-pressed the CTRLR and checked my power connections. Everything seemed fine...Then an hour later it happened again. Checked again and all seemed well.
It was just weird for that to all of a sudden start happening when I had gone for an entire month with the system always "on."

Same thing happened to me. I was sitting watching television and notice the blue light on the mojo blink a few times, then go out. I immediately selected the "inputs" button on my remote, and the HDMI slot occupied by the MOJO was ghosted. I unplugged/plugged in the MOJO, and the blue light came on and the HDMI slot was no longer ghosted. Coincidentally, I tried the CTRL-R and discovered its batteries were dead. A little while later the light went out again. This time, I checked the inputs again, and found the MOJO HDMI input slot ghosted again. This time I wiggled the mouse I have for the MOJO, the blue light came on, and the input channel was no longer ghosted. The happened several more time over the course of the day. Each time a wiggle of the mouse woke the MOJO up. A couple of days ago, I replaced the batteries in the CTRL-R, and woke the MOJO up with it instead of the mouse. Then, just for the heck of it, I removed the batteries from the CTRL-R. The blue light stayed lit for 24 hours or so before going out. Unless the CTRL-R is sending some low level "stay-awake" signal to the MOJO, I don't know what to make of it. Everything works as usual otherwise. I submitted a ticket when the light first went out, but have yet to hear back.
Right now if you let the CTRLR go to sleep then it is preventing MOJO from correctly going to sleep - we're likely going to fix this with a firmware update for the CTRLR (which will also increase the time before it goes to sleep to 30 minutes).
If you turn the pad off or it runs out of batteries then MOJO will enter screen sleep after the time set in the display settings and then, shortly afterwards, it will enter deep sleep. Regarding firmware updates for MOJO, the next release will enable OTA but it will never ever do a silent update.

That's interesting.
I, like these guys, have been trying to figure out a way to control the blue light. I kind of went through the opposite experience. I set my mojo up as a media box before I went about getting games (was waiting on the a2a cable to root with) so I only had a keyboard and mouse combo plugged into it for the first sleep. I'd gotten used to the machine shutting it's light off, and couldn't figure out why after getting games the light would stay on the whole time. I just unplugged it at the end of every night and didn't worry about it for a while
I had noticed the sleep patterns of the CTRLR. I'd thought there'd be an LED response to a quick tap wake up similar to the long press pairing blinks so the lack of lead me to believe there was one sleep and one waking option. I've since figured out the sleep and deep sleep timings, but for a time I figured since I had to long press anyway, may as well take the batteries out and pop them in every time I'm done for a bit. Using rechargeable so it's just a good excuse for a good habit. I think I was watching Netflix and kind idol mindedly pressed the home button and volume button to find the light sleep.
in both cases I'd become comfortable with the deep sleep versions of off. The CTRLR is cool in either sleep modes, but the light on the console itself gives cause for alarm. I was used to mine being off so when it stayed on I first figured it must be hardware keeping it up while worrying it was some sort of nefarious app or some such nonsense. Once I'd linked removing the batteries to the light I pretty much had the whole bugger Sherlock'd, but I was unawares you could turn the pad off. Do you mean virtually or physically? I've not known any way of turning the controller off without taking out it's batteries.

Hi Welcome!
Turning the pad off is the same as turning it on a long hold on the home button (blue light).
A normal press wakes it up in sleep mode (5-10mins with no use).
Charged my contoller overnight and today it wouldnt turn on. This scared me and thought my contoller broke. After googling I found a fix.

You're the man, I also noticed that holding it down for a minute didn't work, so what I did was hold down the symbol and plug it into the charger and the light came on. Thanks a lot for this bro!
lol thats how you pair them anyway...no?
i have a seperate issue but just as i started writing this i think i know the solution lol. my nvidia shield tv remote (not controller) stopped working months back but i think i read that it connects by bluetooth so as i have sixaxis paired to my ps3 controller automatically at boot im guessing this has over written the bluetooth i can use to connect the remote
My god, thank you so much !
There is also a "factory reset" type feature. If you hold the home and back button for about 30 seconds. You will then have to re-pair the controller to the shield.
Also, if your controller Nvidia logo lights up, but the home, back, and play button do not power on, holding the logo button for 15 seconds or so will fix that issue each occurance. Temporary fix to the problem of unknown cause!
Well, I have a problem. For 2 days now my Shield controller is no more paired to the Shield TV.
That only works on USB but no more in BT. And when I try to pair the two devices there is only lights flashing.
I have try your advice for reset the controller, and I have updated it on my computer but nothing change...
Does someone have an Idea please ?
I had a similar thing a few weeks back. I thought it was dead but after leaving everything unplugged over night and then repeating the pairing process (for the 50th time!) it just worked again suddenly.
I had the same problem with my nVidia Shield TV Pro 2017 after I turned it off. However, after plugging in the game controller and leaving it in for about 10-15 seconds - it starts up on its own. No need to do anything else. Clearly this device was not meant to be turned off under normal circumstances
