[Q] Questions about SW version and flashing a new ROM - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Potentially dumb question here but I tried searching and couldn't find an answer...
If my current setup is: rooted, stock MDL and I want to flash a ROM (specifically Xousos v.2.0 found in the android development forum) that states it is based on MF9 do I need to upgrade my stock version prior to flashing the new ROM? Is that a frivolous step or is it necessary?
Thanks in advance!

Thanked you on accident. No you don't. Just wipe data/cache/dalvik then flash the ROM. Flash the mf9 modem if you want that too.

Thanked you on purpose. :good:
Thanks for the info

question - I have that ROM and love it so far. I don't know what an mf9 modem is though. Am I missing something I should have?

I was going to make a thread for this also. I was told that what I want is to request someone to make the AMDL modem available for us to flash. I would like the same. I don't want to have to ODIN back to take advantage of the ROMS I like. So if anyone can create flashable zip that updates the modem from AMDB to AMDL. I hope I got that right. Someone?
Actually I was going to create a thread similar, I would like to know how to separate and create a flashable zip from a firmware, specifically for modems. So we can get any rom and flash after to keep going as usual.

Nandroid Question

Right now I'm on MDL using Blu-Kuban ROM. I plan on trying to upgrade to a MF9 ROM. If I then use a nandroid restore of my current MDL ROM, It will revert me back to MDL correct?
Thanks!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm prettyy sure it will... except for your baseband which will stay MF9.
Also questions go in Q&A buddy, expect this to be moved very soon.
Nope the nan droid will not taken you back to MDL. The firmware will remain mf9 along with the modem. You shouldn't have a problem switching back and forth though.

[Q] Upgrading from Rooted Stock

My only nandroid is a stocked MDC rooted rom - unmodified other than root and recovery. I can get the upgrade notification and it takes me to recovery to upgrade when I select reboot and then it asks me if I want to replace or remove my recovery (or something like that). My question is if I do select that will I just upgrade to pure stock MDL/MF9 without root and with stock recovery? Or is that possible?

[Q] Update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4: kernal change?

Hi all, Does the kernal change from NC1 to NJ4 during the update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4? Just wondering, as I'd like to flash the Touchwiz Rom based on the 4.4.4 platform.
Thanks,
K
I would suggest Odining to NB1 and stay there since 4.4.2 roms don't play so nice with 4.4.4 Yes the kernel will change. If you really want to update, READ THE INDEX. Sorry to say this, but you should search first before and then after, if you haven't found your answer, ask questions. Also, wrong section :/

Thanks for the reply, but since AT&T's i337 has been updated to 4.4.4, I was considering moving to one of the custom TouchWiz ROMS (4.4.4) following a stock update from my current custom ROM. Therefore, I would not be moving from a custom 4.4.2 to a custom 4.4.4. I HAVE read the forums, thanks.
As an aside,I appreciate the advice, but, based on the title of the forum, I thought my question was correctly placed.

Update s4 att i337

Hello, Sorry if this has been asked before.
I am currently on android 4.4.2 rooted and would like to update to 4.4.4 and keep root.
Can any one suggest me a proper way to do this update ?
Thanks
There is a thread on this in this forum. You have to flash the NB1 kernel I think it is, root, then flash back to the kernel you're on.
