Thanks for that!
Version 7 is royally screwed up, I would not recommend updating if you were seriously using the app.

I still haven't got the update to version 7. I'm still on 6.14 and play store says map upto date july 11th. How do I get the update?

Wow. Thanks a bunch.
I tried searching before for one and couldn't find the last pre-7 and was also too lazy to make a request thread.

Thanks this is great. I couldn't stand the updated maps app at all. Not very user friendly. I used the maps app a lot for when I'm out of town for work and this past week it failed miserably.

yessss!!!! thank you!

Reverting is easy
If you want to go back to a fully featured version of maps, just go into my apps in the app store, select maps and then press uninstall. It will take off the new version (downgrade) and revert you to the old (fully functional) version.
With the need to use two map as before (google+ to see where my wife and family is and maps to see traffic), the loss of my places, and the lack of layers on the navigation app (can't show gas stations along my route), this "upgrade" is awful.
Yes, the bare bones map and navigation software is slick. But you know what? So is TomTom and garmin. What set google maps apart were the extras. I can only hope they add a bunch of these features back (along with the option to display a +/- to zoom and a length marker) at some point soon. I won't be upgrading until they do (and my rating will stay 2 stars).

My thoughts exactly, it's very difficult to use the new Google maps.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

in the new gmap you cant save a map to make available offline..
the new gmap is like on the iphone tsk tsk

thanks for this post, found it while I was out, I stupidly updated when i was at home as street view wasn't working, the newest one doesn't detect my location on data unless I have gps while v6 works fine,

Thanks, I've re-signed it with test keys so that it cannot be auto-updated by the play store.
I've had to uninstall maps 7.x and re-install the old version four times so I ended up doing this.

[APP] Google Maps 4.4.0 [Request]

Hello,
Can't download Google Maps 4.4 from the Market, it's not visible in Serbia.
Any volunteers for uploading?
Big thanks!
mate, just wait a bit for mr brut to come out with 4.4 instead.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
Google maps 4.4.0 and brut-appmod seem to co-exist btw.
I was happily using Brut-appmod (great mod, btw!), but noticed significant memory leak I couldn't trace. It went down to 40 MB for no apparent reason.
Was it the Brut mod or something else? I don't know, but I've recently wiped clean my HTC Desire and wouldn't push my luck further.

Hello,
Before the brut is released, You can download and install market enabler
http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/downloads/list
With this program you can change your location (like US) and download all software you want.
PS : i Think you need root access.
I guess this is legal so I've uploaded it here. It's on my dropbox so I can't guarantee you how long it will be on there.
If this is not legal, please remove it mods.

Yes, I've already considered that, but am still not ready to root. This is my first Android phone and I don't have enough experience for rooting.
AppBrain app does great job for everything else, but not for Maps.
Thanks for the help!
Thanks

DO NOT download this beta (it won't work)

uninstall swype using system app remover or Titanium backup.
go to http://beta.swype.com/
You will notice it says the new version will not work if swype is already pre-installed on your phone by the manufacturer.
If you try to install you will get an error.
Use astro to navigate to the root directory of your phone. navigate to /system/lib/ and delete libSwypecore. I believe that file is put in place to prevent you from using a new/updated version of swype.
Proceed to follow the link that was emailed to you when you registered on beta.swype.com.
I was able to get a swype board working with dk28 by removing the original sype stuff manually and copying in the new stuff.
I just installed it, it doesn't ad much feature wise, but it does perform very smooth. Its more accurate and stable than the stock Swype.
Here is how to install it.
Go here on your computer and register for Beta:https://beta.swype.com/android/create/
After you register, delete Swype from your phone (must be rooted). Go to system/app using RootExplorer and delete Swype.apk. Then go to system/lib and delete libSwypecore.so
Next, go to https://beta.swype.com/ on your phone. Login and download Swype Installer. Launch it when its done, and follow the on screen instructions. It will ask you to login and license Swype.
Once this is finished, enable Swype, and you are done!
And yes it does work as i'm running it now.
Does this mean I'll have to reinstall the beta over and over once the trial runs out? And what exactly does this update do different than my current version?

Yes. Betas expire and then it becomes a perpetual nuisance. Experienced it with the Moment and am glad to have a stock version.
I am not saying doing it is bad. Some people don't mind and I am not judging anyone's actions as negative in that regard. My personal choice is that I'm tired of doing that.
Anyone tried this on EB13 yet? i'm about to upgrade to EB13 and plan on trying this after

We're not allowed to give you it as it's a paid app and if you did want the stock version, you'd have to install a rom that has the stock version (syndicate, Bonsai). It's the only reason I left MidNIGHT rom.
darn.. wish i i knew that before i did this lol

Just put it in system/app and it should work fine.

I had it in my application list from the previous install on other devices, so I just download Flash today and still worked. But those who really don't have just try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.modaco.flashdownloader. This should let you download Flash 11.

Unable to click install button from apk file

I am currently running the latest paranoid android Rom on my nexus 4 using Franco's milestone 2 kernel. I am having problems installing apps that I downloaded (e.g., Adobe flash update). What happens is I can see the installation screen with the different permissions, but I cannot click on the install button. It works when I install apps from the play store but not through root browser, astro, es explorer. I have tried other apks to make sure it's not just that one file. As well, I had even removed those dimmer apps like twilight and lux before installing. I also stopped the running applications and then tried installing. I'm stumped and I have no idea what to try next. Maybe there is another uncommon app that I need to uninstall before installing off my card...
If anyone has any suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated.

you can not install adobe flash from the play store, flash does not support android 4.2.2. yoy would need to install it from the adobe site list of past flash updates. same with any other app from the play store that doesnt support the nexus 4 or the right android version.
