DroidX Multi-touch keyboard for Froyo

Hey gang,
Many people have been wanting the Droid X/2 Multi-touch keyboard on ARMv6 froyo roms, so I went and fixed it for everyone.
This APK should work on *ALL* Froyo roms both ARMv6 and ARMv7, and may work on Eclair as well(I've not tested it)
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
There are two files in the zip,
push libjni_latinime.so to /system/lib
push droidx-keyboard-kaosfix-v3.apk to /system/app/
Please let me know if you find any bugs, and we'll see if we can sort them out.

Kaos - when I go to launch it then it says Activity not found - com.android.inputmethod.latin
any ideas?

Launch and uninstall are my only options using astro

When I attempt to install, it gives me (2) buttons, "Uninstall" and "Launch". It thinks this app is already installed.... (it's not)
Is the "internal" package name the same as an existing (pre-installed) keyboard ? It comes up as "com.android.inputmethod.latin".

Still have same error... strange. Maybe my phones keyboards are messed up. I'll wair for v31. thanks man you rock.

Same as me

same issue as everyone else. Seems like it thinks it's installed when it's not.

i got it installed. but i get a force close after two letters typed

Yeah, the stock LatinIME.apk has the same internal name.
You may need to remove that before using this.

Using Titanium Backup I uninstalled android keyboard 2.2 from my phone then installed the new apk from kaos. Do that everyone.

Remove the stock LatinIME apks, they (can sometimes) interfere.

Where is the stock APK located? this can't be removed using the regular uninstall method on the phone correct? it would need to be done via adb?

They're at /system/app/LatinIME.apk or /system/app/LatinImeGoogle.apk
Yes, adb is the easiest way.

swype not working after update

so i just updated to the newest version on my EVO and my swype is force closing non-stop.
Background info - I was an official swype beta tester and had the most recent swype beta installed prior to update install
I noticed on the change log that this update was supposed to include swype (after the fact, of course).
So i had swype beta installed when i said yes to the update.
Do you think because i had the beta installed during the update messed it all up?
I uninstalled the beta and there is no trace of swype on my phone. when i reinstall swype beta, it crashes.
any help would be appreciated! i miss my swype.

So lemme get this right. You received the new update already. Get in contact with a dev so it can be pulled from your phone and distributed to the rest of us. Lol

Connect your phone to your computer...
Adb pull /system .
That way well have everything from the update. Except the kernel.

anyway, can anyone help with me swype issue?

Go to Applications, Swype, Clear Data. If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall it. If that doesn't work, try clearing cache and Dalvik cache from recovery.
If it still doesn't work downgrade to a previous version ROM. Or use Ultra Keyboard, which is leaps and bounds better than Swype.

Try this: system/lib via root explorer and delete the libswype.co

Yeah me too im a official swype beta tester and i had have the latest swype and my swype just stop.working it does not swype no more ill post my update if you guys want it

Son of a...This is confirmed. Just downloaded the update (before I came here) and now Swype is stuck. I was also a tester and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Beta version but that has not worked. I suppose a warning from HTC might have been appropriate, given the popularity of Swype and the fact that they just did a Beta release! Lesson learned. At the very least, come over here and see if anyone else has had any trouble. DOH!
Update: It's a fairly simple fix. Just uninstall the Swype Installer and Swype itself, then shut down and restart. It should just reboot with the new Swype in place.

if you guys are official swype beta users like myself then you should know one of swype's main rules is DON'T INSTALL SWYPE ON A DEVICE THAT COMES PRELOADED WITH SWYPE.

Actually i never downloaded the swype from sprint i went to my swype and updated from their my does not force closes is just does not want to swype no more i could only type with it

Well, the Beta is now closed for Evo with the following error "Swype is available for the Evo with the latest OTA update!"
Problem is.... like most of us, I'm rooted and not accepting the OTA update. Can someone post the APK please?

Good luck, the MODS have already went over this. Even though Swype is now in the OTA for the Evo the apk is still not to be posted on XDA. So basically its still against the rules. Rumor has it Google may be helpful.

I understand since it was a closed beta but now that it is an open beta, shouldn't APKs be allowed to be posted? Since everyone can download it now (except for the poeple with rooted phones )

XDA actually received a c&d from swype, so until it's fully released, the apk's can't be posted. It's only ok if it's a part of a rom.

In was immediately part of the beta when it opened...
It installed swype installer, then the new swype. New swype was sweet.. But it had no dictionary. Nothing swyped. Went back to my old version.

Download a rom with the new ota. Pic the apk from the rom put it on your sd card, use a file manager to find it and install it.

+1 to that... Or just flash newest unrevokedforever.zip , ruu back to 3.29 accept OTA and install custom recovery from Amon-Ra that works with hboot 2.10 and have everything completely updated with root and nand unlocked...

Why not just update to the newest "OTA" through one of the roms that are already rooted? This will include the new yet very old version of swype that the OTA has.

Theres 2 i found in under 2 seconds.

From the Swype Forums, about rooted custom rom users not being able to install the beta:
I warned 'em this would happen We've got a phonecall happening today to discuss the best course of action here. Will keep you all posted.

Hopefully they find a workaround.

Odd.. I had zero problems installing it on CM 6.1. In fact I could install _both_ the OTA release (grabbed a custom zip) _and_ the beta apk... the the beta one acted a bit odd for me.
Guess I'm lucky, or the fact that most custom ROM are Sense based the beta installer must be mis-identifying said ROMs as the stock build and telling you to isntall the OTA (which wouldn't be a problem for an AOSP ROM lie CM or miui).

I was trying to not have to go through the hassle but I have it now thanks guys!

I did that and all I get are FCs every 5 minutes and the keyboard won't work

If you have root explorer check to be sure all old swype data is gone, reboot that reinstall the apk. This happened to me and it fixed the fc.

Edit: a simple search helped me find where to look. Running swype beautifully

You also need a file called libSwypeCore.so
It's in /system/lib/

Swype Beta available to public

I never realized how much I loved Swype until I didn't have it in the ROM I installed recently. Anyway, the beta is now available for sign up and you can install the latest greatest version.

Instructions for installing the beta if you already have Swype on your phone courtesy of SykesAT:
1. switch to a keyboard other than swype
2. delete system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
3. delete system/app/Swype.apk
4. install the swype installer and follow instructions.

Too bad it doesn't work if you u have swype preinstalled like the vibrant....

WRONG! they tell u to uninstall thee old version anyways just login confirm email they let u download a installer login and it starts downloading it looks pretty badass..

Says right on that page you linked:
"If your phone came pre-installed with Swype
DO NOT download this beta (it won't work)"
It is even emphasized with a different color.

Confirmed not working. Running Nero V3, uninstalled Swype (had to use a root explorer) and installed the beta. It crashes before it starts.

I'm on ginger clone and it worked for me

You can install the beta, I did. You just need to make it appear as if swype was not installed.

This is what I had to do as well. Even though I had the files, Swype was not working for me for some reason. After deleting the files mentioned above, the beta will work.

It would work with ginger clone. Ginger does not have swype preloaded, hence no need to delete an older version.

Noob alert! How do you delete read only files? I'm using Linda File Manager and can't delete those two files mentioned above, it says they're read only.
Edit: I'm unlocked and running Axura 2.2.9.0

I am on Bionix 1.3.1 and it worked for me after deleting the swype files in system/app and system/lib.

There is a new update for the swype beta version is 3.5.83.26516.t100.26529 same way to install as the first swype beta just delete app and lib files reboot and use swype installer to install

Just curious as I am not able to delete swype, how do I delete this damn thing!

yes phones need to be rooted and after deleting the files also do a reboot and then just follow the instructions on the swype installer

It worked perfectly. And I've been rooted since unboxing. The thanks so much. Huge help.

I rooted my phone primarily because I missed swype so much. But after using this new version.. well. I'm sad. Somehow now I feel SlideIT is better. Faster, at least. The new swype is SLOWW.

I actually really disagree there. I rooted my phone primarily for the express reason to be able to update swype. The stock-froyo version was quite slow for me, sometimes it took 3-4 seconds to react (which is a LONG time when you're trying to type).
The new swype beta is not only soooo much faster for me but it also better recognizes what I mean to type (erm... swype ). I'm really glad I upgraded as this is a HUGE improvement if you ask me

I am trying to add many languages to swype keyboard v3.6
