we have been working on a new remote display product, called rPlay
In short, rPlay v1.0 supports Apple's Airplay protocol, including the latest Airplay Mirroring technology, so you will be able to send iPhone/iPad screens to a HDTV powered by a Raspberry Pi. It supports real time audio/video streaming.
This is the first time Airplay mirroring is implemented on raspberry pi devices.
We are accepting 100 beta testers for the Raspberry Pi platform, please send email to info at our company domain name.

Any chance of a port for Android Devices? We've been trying with Android Transporter, BBQScreen, and MirrorOp, but nothing seems to work with Any Android device to the Raspberry Pi.
We don't support mirroring Android devices yet. However, we do have a port of rplay to run on Android, that is to mirror iOS devices to Android devices. (we plan to support mirroring Android in future releases)
If you want to mirror android at low fps, you can use our VNC server: (no audio/video, but what you see on the screen is indeed what you will get):

Legal concern
Apple doesn't open AirPlay mirroring protocol to any 3rd party. So far the only way to receive AirPlay Mirroring stream is via reverse engineering. Do you think it's possible to over come the legal issue and then make this functionality a real product to sell to consumers?
yes, that's our plan, to provide this as a real product for systems such as Raspberry Pi, Android, etc. We are also developing a miracast receiver within rPlay, so this would act as an open TV dongle. With our remote agent installed on the phone, (e.g., our VNC Server for Android and iOS), one can also remotely control the device, in addition to viewing.

Open refers to support multiple devices, iOS, Android, PC etc.. We don't have plan yet as whether to open source it. We first need to make sure it works to its best.

I have received quite some emails for the beta testing, thanks. I will try to release the first test version late next week, stay tuned.
This first version will NOT contain miracast emulation, our upcoming versions will have that ready, so Android devices can also mirror screens to raspberry pi.

This beta won't have miracast support. We do have internal version that works, we tested on S3 (with 4.1.1), S3(4.2.2), and Nexus 4/7, we need more testing on this before releasing to the public. It will be cool, I assure you.

Very impressive!! I already have a Rasp Pi hooked to my TV. This would be very useful. I recently ordered the $35 Chromecast so I could do mirroring with Chrome.
Spent a few days to emulate Chromecast inside rPlay, finally it can find the rPlay (on Raspberry Pi) as a chromecast device, and it can send youtube URL redirection. still long way to go, but seems possible.
Attached is a screenshot of Youtube on Nexus 7, the Chromecast button is shown, when clicked, it will show rPlay as the device.
This is just awesome!

theoretically yes but the effort required to port a closed source project without the permission of microsoft would be way over our heads and would be better off waiting for official netflix app
probably the best way to do something like that would be to re-write an open alternative to silverlight (but then they'd probably update silverlight to phase it out)
besides only thing i know that even requires silverlight is netflix thus it doesn't come with much of a benefit to all that many people

Moonlight is silverlight on linux. It was developed by Novell with the assistance and endorsement of Microsoft. And Novell has already ported it to Android as MonoDroid (its still immature though).
What is needed to make Netflix work is the DRM that silverlight uses. Thats not part of the silverlight spec. Its part of the playready spec and that is not available to the open source community.
Now keep in mind that this is only for the web viewer. The ipad/iphone app doesn't use playready nor silverlight. Basically, silverlight or its DRM isn't necessary for netflix instant watch on mobile devices as demonstrated by the recent Evo incident. There are other methods that can be used (and have been used on iOS apps).

Mono is supposed to work fine with netflix.
imo, the best and most stable way of doing it is somehow setting up a inbetween server that runs silverlight/mono and allows the phone to connect through some sort of protocol to your server, and allows you to stream the movies. Like remote desktop/vnc but more friendly ui + sound.

Agreed. I hate that we finally were able to stream Netflix on our EVOs and then it was immediately patched.
I'd rather know that Netflix will never be compatible with the EVO for hardware/DRM reasons, than to have it ACTUALLY WORKING and then taken away.
If it can be done, it should be done.
(Not in all cases, but this one for damn sure!)

I can personally say that Mono does not work with netflix instant watch. Playready DRM is not available for Linux. Remember, its not Silverlight support that Linux lacks, its the playready DRM.
As for your suggestion, that has been done. Its called PlayOn. Its not free, but it works with Netflix and Hulu and a bunch if other streaming sites.
In articles released today, Nvidia said the Tegra 3 chipset will support miracast (an open streaming tech similar to DLNA) for mirroing/streaming to other devices/ monitors. Will the Nexus support this and would this be their workaround for forgoing the MHL/HDMI? Or would it only be on future models? -Ara

I'm very curious about this too.
I've looked into this briefly and from what I gather, any device that supports WIFI direct should be able to do this. I think I read somewhere that the N7 has wifi direct. Miracast is only a standard. There are other non-standard devices out there that can also do the same thing, but requires changes to the core android files.
Search for xbounds on youtube and the internet. You will see some demos of it. it requires an hdmi dongle that has wifi on it that communicates with your device.
In any event, if the N7 doesn't support miracast, it will support xbounds via a custom ROM (if and when somebody decides to build a custom ROM with xbounds integrated). Then all that is required is the xbounds dongle. Unfortunately, there is not much information on xbounds and when it will be released.
What would I need to purchase to get this working?
Hopefully, we don't need to buy stuff, we just need to update our devices when miracast comes down. There's a list of compatible devices on the Wi-Fi Alliance website. -Ara

I've not found any hardware that you could plug into say an HTML Monitor that will work with this yet. I do think it will be coming available soon though.

Nexus Q might get Miracast support
Nexus 7 and most Tegra 3 (also Galaxy S3) phones/tablets can get a fw upgrade to enable miracast (most that support WIFI Direct probably can have Miracast enabled).
Now that google is having another round of tinkering on the Nexus Q before release we might end up with Miracast support in it as well.
Personaly I think Miracast will be added out of the box and maybee even Google TV.
I only hope that it won't be possible to disable mirroring from inside an app using the API, if so I'm sure some streaming services will disable mirroring of the screen while using there apps lika HBO Go have done to Airplay

Using a Raspberry Pi would be like a dongle... I'd like to get my hands on one to play, currently, there is a 12 week delivery time on those as well and you most likely would want it in some sort of case for it as well.
While most likely a solution, not a real clean one for mass marketing. That will come though.

Has anyone heard any updated news on miracast? I tried Google but all I found was old news. I'm really tired of waiting.
Well I read so many threads about it but it got complicated after the 4th sentence and I don't understand a thing.
I have 1080p LG HDTV 37LD420-ZA bought in 2010. I have no idea about Miracast, what it is or do I have it. Can I even set up this stream or?

Holy crap I swear the lack of information on miracast will be its demise. Its seriously pathetic that one can't even simply search for 'how to use miracast' and find simple answers. Miracast is seriously the equivalent to a unicorn at this point.
Somebody PLEASE prove me wrong. Its my most anticipated feature of 4.2.

Bubble up player is great to stream from the tablet..
I use it because you can pick the device where the files are at. Say on a network computer share folder. Stream them thru the tablet to a Tv on the same network..
You can also select where the video is rendered .. Local ON THE SHARE Device or on the ..
MY Samsung shows up as a DLNA /Media device on all my networked devices . Its great feature..
YOU just have to play with the settings to find what works best with your tv and network shares.. There is also a SAMSUNG ALL SHARE App and program for windows pcs. that does NOT Require a samsung device..
As far as miracast who knows if or when....
The thing is, I don't want just DLNA playing to another device/computer/television. I want mirroring. I want exactly what Miracast is supposed to give me. And even now if you Google how to use Miracast you will find *nothing* about actually *how* to use it. You see a whole bunch of hype about people saying how it's going to beat AirPlay and how it's the best thing since sliced bread -- yet nobody has actually used it.
It's appalling how biased people can be without any evidence of the feature working (short of a video given to us by the friggin manufacturer). I feel like I purchased an iDevice. This feature is a ghost.
Exactly, feels like there are more Andro Sheep than iSheep. For now, 4.2 only brought amazing Bluetooth-NFC connectivity. As well as some UI stuff which there are plenty of custom on Android.

Well I, for one, wouldn't even be connecting it to a TV. My home theater PC, however, should easily be able to have some sort of software running on it that would be able to receive the signal. The problem is that the functionality is only half-baked at this time no matter where you look.
And without any device currently on the market, how can people swear by it?
Before we all start a witch hunt, remember miracast is still in development. You can't have something that hasn't had an official release yet.
Android Central has had a few articles on it, so far there are no official streaming devices for it (although some companies have claimed their upcoming streaming devices will support it).

Our best hope is that Google enables Miracast in a future update, and that compliant Miracast devices are released. I'm not holding my breath, since I would have thought that they would have included it with the 4.2 update if they planned on including it at all. I could be wrong of course. It's still early days with Miracast. Maybe it can be enabled via custom ROMs.

Lazy, bad reporting.
They don't mention the 7 in the article, just the 10 and 4. I don't mind living without mirroring (my phone has MHL, if I ever bother to buy the adapter), but the wireless mirroring was a selling point on this tablet for me, even if I have to go custom to enable it.
As a filmmaking student, the capability to control and mirror screens on, say, a movie set, or a classroom, without plugging everything up just so, sounds pretty sweet. And I'm personally just tired of collecting single-use cables and adapters.

What I don't understand is why did they hype it so much? From what I understood, no ones TV even supports this yet. Am I supposed to buy a new TV for this feature?
And I also don't understand, how is N7 not mentioned in those articles? Official Miracast video says that this is going to be enabled for NVIDIA Tegra 3 devices. Only N7 has Tegra 3, N4 and N10 both have different stuff inside.

I have always wanted to try out a raspberry pi or to see a good video breakdown of mirroring the display. Hopefully the Miracast standard will take off but I heard you can't be connected to WiFi and use miracast at the same time

Hello there, this is the first time i reply. I have my Nexus 7 it's perfect in many ways but this is an epic fail. I have made a little research and i don't see any way to mirror th N7 exept the Raspberry pi way, I don't get why Google would blocked their first tablet from mirroring if it has everything to do it. I hope someone can make an easy solution soon.

I don't think that "didn't implement" means the same thing as "blocked". OTOH, I never saw the (apparently short-lived) marketing claims by Google that said the N7 would do it.

seems to suggest that there may be specific hardware performance limitations that make it improbable on the N7.
There are some threads on XDA (& other places too) where folks talk about their experiences attempting either WiDi or Miracast connection with the N4/N7/N10.
I haven't seen any reports of success with either on the N7... despite the curious WiDi option in the display settings in stock 4.2.1 on the N7... what's it for?
I was aware of all this prior to my purchase, but bought the N7 anyway. I'm still hopeful that something will happen in a future update; Miracast is still relatively new... Netgear is shipping their 3rd PTV device, and they are not yet Miracast certified.

Not actual Android TV, but an android OS with all possibilities like Android TV.
The main reason for this project is that the most of the TVs that have HDMI have no support for the Android TV. With this you can get that experience without buying a new TV.

If someone was able to port an Android based ROM over, it would be pretty easy seeing as you would only need to port apks and stuff at that point....
The reason for me being here is: Amazon prime instant video isn´t working any more @ Kodi/XBMC etc. and it is unsure if it will be working ever again... (According to lordk @ kodinerds)
So the best solution will be using the app @ Android and i think there will be more raspberry pi2 user changing over to android.

I just tried a few forks of Android x86 on my RasPi 2 and all of them lagged like hell...
I would be very interested in Android TV on my RasPi 2, if it works without laggs.

Considering that RasPi's are all either ARMv6 or ARMv7 class cores, I very much doubt you tried any X86 Android ports on your Pi2.

I have a raspberry pi 3 model, with the raspbian OS installed, and i'm trying to make GUI menu with some buttons, and when i click it will start applications installed on the raspbian, like Kodi, Libre Office and others or a page browser.
But the problem is that I can't make it. I already tried the Glade and the Python but that doesn't allow me to do what I really want.
Does anyone know such a program?
