Nexus 4 HORRIBLE Battery Drain, Getting hot - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My nexus 4 has horrible battery drain and gets INSANELY hot when I'm doing things like browsing and using twitter apps etc, It gets even hotter and droped about 1% every 40-50 seconds when playing a game Like GTA 3.
Never had such bad problems before. Is there a fix?

I need an actual fix. Many people have this problem it isn't something that can be solved with an app.

This is a fix

Hasn't changed anything
I'm not rooted also.

If it's stock the only problems can arise from the apps installed

I am on stock rom and kernel but i have never experienced something like this , are you using custom kernel ?
Sent from my Nexus 4

No, as I said, many people have had these problems, it does not come form apps installed.

the google stock kernel kind of swings between bad and good. i've had it go hot and munching away battery or stay cool and deliver 2 days on regular use. i would suggest you try a custom kernel like franco, that has kind of stabilized it for me and i can forget about the kernel again.

Who can ease our minds? (LED of death)

I've just read reports of someone getting the red LED of death without even over clocking.. Does anyone have any good advice as to how to avoid this? I'm running aokp with _motley kernel.. Seriously thinking about going back to stock.. Am I worrying too much?

It seems like it only happens when running benchmarks.

Yeah, it's really strange guess I'm not gonna run the benchmarks that's for sure

Nexus 4 rebooting constantly...

Just received Nexus 4 from US friends to here in India. I am getting constant reboots. They are very very frequent. Like once in every 10 minutes. Generally occurring when I make calls and into it 10 seconds. Seems like its hot reboot.
I received it in Android 4.2, which I immediately updated to 4.2.1, so I have no experience if it had the issue in 4.2.
I tried the following:
1) Factory Reset
2) Putting it back to Android 4.2
3) The latest nightly build of CM 10.1
The issue existed everywhere. I also have logcat constantly recorded before the reboots. Here is one of the instants:
http://pastebin.com/4JPW20xu
Any suggestions or advice? As of now I am planning to send it back to US for getting it replaced. But I want to try every possible solution in case it is a software issue..
Thanks in advance
Flash a custom kernel such as Franco. Kernel is what throttles your phone in temperatures etc.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Lemme try that, though CM 10.1 build kernel had the same issues.
Tried franco kernel. Still the same issue is there.
CPU Spy is not showing more times at higher frequency. Is temperature throttle possible?

I doubt these are thermal reboots.. It is probably something wrong internally that is causing it. Bad eMMC maybe?

One of these days, someone will make a phone and everyone will rejoice at the satisfactory battery, the good screen, the awesome camera, the no-lagginess, the perfectly tuned speaker.... Ad infinitum....

That is outstanding. But how in the world is it possible that you have a "screen on" state without being awake?
I have been fighting battery issues for so long now, I'd really like to get to something as good as what you get...
i get 5 hours on heavy use until i hit 10 % well my setup is in my signature on light use i am sure i can stretch it to 6 hours with brightness on auto and wifi is on most of the time
battery life is never going to be better for me unless i uv. the previous setup, i used cm 10.1.2 stable with matr1x kernel. i uv and set the max cpu to 1350. it was really really good. i can use the phone from 8am to 9pm.
now currently using aosp 4.3, the default setup battery life has improved a bit compared to 4.2.2 stock, but after semaphore kernel installed and uv a bit, even with max cpu at default which is 1.5ghz, battery life has been really great.

I've terrible battery usage after 4.3 update. I never had any issues before but now I get 20 to 30 percent drop during the night when before it was under 10 in the same scenario.
Android os Showing 6h usage...
Any help on sorting this out highly appreciated.
Battery life has increased a lot for me.
No heavy usage, I know. But still awesome compared to the stats I had when I bought my nexus 4

Just out of curiosity, are in you the US/North America?
I had the same issue of losing tons of battery to the OS overnight. I reflashed to an older version of the modem. Most of the people I have seen so far with these symptoms have been in France and India. Must be something about the cell services and how they interact with the phone.
@Calebz: I'm in Ireland.
I've restarted the phone since and the battery usage is back to normal, will see for how long.
Maybe you can look at this:

[Q] battery draining by chrome and hangout!

well recently i upgraded to android 4.3 by OTA and i have no problem just i notice a huge battery draining by hangout when I was using it and then it happened with google chrome.. they even had more battery usage than screen on even! is it happening for everyone or its just something for me?!
It is larger then the screen because you did not use the screen much.
Chrome is draining battery by using the sandbox process, you may force stop it.

(4.4 with ART) How are your battery stats? Post pictures here with screen on time!

So i flashed my device and is now running 4.4 with ART enabled. Performance is definitely better but I want to get some extra juice out of it (considering that im 5h 6m at most with SCREEN ON TIME)
Share your experiences with pictures if you can please (with SOT)
Attached are battery stats from my previous Clean ROM with faux kernel just to give you an example

EDIT:
(referring to the pictures attached) Yeah. I was playing Asphalt, had wifi most of the time (even if there wasn't a hotspot), watched The Way Way Back via Mx player, Juice Cubes and was reflashing the ROM after having trouble with Xposed Framework patch.
PS. Sorry this was from my CLEAN ROM WITH FAUX KERNEL so what I'll post next is my latest Kitkat setup + stats
Not so pleased with these stats, but my Nexus 4 had record breaking stats! I have never had more than an hour of SOT, but today I got three! Running KitKat and ART.
Well, for my N7 it is a different story. Take a look.
That is the worst stats I've ever had. Let's give it a day, like I did on my N4.

Your kernel is at 69%. Either you switched to ART directly before this run or you have a rogue app that's not showing up in the stats. Reboot, recharge and try again.

Ok. That's probably the AOT compilation. Give it another boot without any new apps and you'll see more characteristic battery life.

On lowest brightness though. I got tops 2 days standby and 6h SOT with 4.3 so huge improvement with 4.4 and ART

No games. I don't do much gaming. Can play some rayman jungle run on my next charge.
Just one hour left til 3 days standby, already 8h screen on and 10% battery left. I'll reach 9h SOT without a doubt and on 4.3 I could only get that with one day standby. So standby time is the biggest improvement.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Auto brightness, mostly streaming and downloaded video, browsing, etc. 6 hours screen time takes me down to 45%. I don't often run it past there, but if I did, I should be able to get close to 11 hours screen time.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Wow, i used to think my nexus 7 had a decent battery time. Maybe i should try running on art and see if there's any difference.
Hey, here are my results after an normal Sunday with some gaming, web brosing and just normal stuff you do with your Tablet
