Ive noticed when going from the home screen to the browser my screen goes a little dimmer and when I go back to the home it brightens back up also it does this on some apps.
I was wondering what could make it do that ? Auto is off and the brightness is all the way up .
im running mint jelly with fuax123 kernel .
Did you turn auto brightness off in the browser settings also?

Some apps have their own 'auto brightness setting'. Check the apps settings which are causing the fluctuation and see if there is a brightness setting.

I don't know about apps but open your browser and press the menu button, there you will see brightness. If its on auto, that is your problem.

K I checked that and its off also the apps and I couldn't find any with a brightness setting . It seems like the apps just dim a little and cant really tell if it goes back when going home but all the browsers have a slite dim its kinda like a fade and when exiting its like a instant back where it was . Hard to explain I guess.
Auto adjust screen tone under display settings turn it off and it will be fine.

I want the Browswer to either,
1 - utilize the auto brightness function
2 - keep the brightness the same as what my setting is on
Is this that hard to do? why does the browser get it's own friggin brightness setting? At lease give us an option to take route 1 or route 2 on top of being able to change it.
Definitely something to think about in future roms.
And here is another example of why I despise auto brightness settings on screens. I like mine cranked all the way...except on my Sharp Aquos because that would lead to retinal bleeding at over 450nits
Just swipe from left to right along the notification bar to change the brightness to what you want.

i'd much prefer it automatically matching the brightness to the system setting. Hopefully, that will be fixed in the upcoming roms.
BTW, to increase screen brightness, turn Power Savings off in the Display settings. Doing this keeps the screen at 100% all the time --the browser and other apps will not dim the display anymore.

Very annoying. I have no idea why someone would do this. It makes no sense.

Same here, i don't need a very bright screen to browse
But having a auto for browser is basic setting in my mind though

But then you go outside and you can't see your screen because it's so low. This is specifically the reason it bugs me. I too love low brightness indoors but it sucks when you can't see the screen very well to turn it back up.
My only complaint is every page has to be white like a bright sheet of paper.
Back in the old days, computers had white text on black screens. Worked great at night or in dark rooms.

Also consume less battery with black background
I have a problem where the screen brightness varies by itself without any input from me. I have turned off automatic brightness and set the screen brightness at the lowest level in an attempt to save battery life. However, when I use the phone at a later time I would recognize a difference in the screen brightness. When I go to check it in settings, the screen brightness level is set at a different level.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Go into settings sound and brightness and uncheck the power saving option at the bottom and ofcourse make sure u uncheck auto brightness.

also i read in another post that the TouchWiz user interface has a built in feature that will adjust brightness when you swip your finger at the top of the screen, making it brighter when you swipe left to right and dimming the screen when you swipe right to left.

That must be it! Thanks! I must have swiped left/right on the top of the screen without realizing it. Kind of annoying for them to sneak in a feature like that. I can see it being useful but I prefer the power control widget. Any idea how I can disable that feature of touchwiz?
getting ridd of touchwiz was the first thing i did when i got my epic so i dont really know much about it .

How did you get rid of touchwiz? I installed Launcherpro over it but that doesn't do away with touchwiz.
There was a thread on here for that from what i can remember, i cant look for it right at this moment because im at work but you should be able to find it yourself. Search for "removing touchwiz UI" if you cant find it go to google (it might have been a diff forum/Blog it was a few days ago).
You guys can change your home screen launcher, but you won't be able to get rid of TouchWiz until a vanilla ROM comes out. The ability to adjust adjust your brightness via swipe on the notification bar is - for better or worse (better imho) - not dependant on you using the TW launcher.

If you root the epic, you CAN manually uninstall all touchwiz packqages to remove the ui...
That notification taskbar swipe is pretty handy tho... thanks to whoever shared it... I like to keep my screen dim for the most part... but that is soooo much easier to use when, say I go outside and need to adjust quickly! It even works in landscape mode! Nice!

Root your Epic, download Root Explorer from market (worth the price), make sure you already have Launcher PRO running, then go to running applications and force close TouchWiz30Launcher then go to root explorer > system > app (make sure you mount it as r/w) > and delete TouchWiz30Launcher.apk and .odex, then reboot and that's it.
You can also use terminal app if you're familiar with commands.

That... is... awesome! Did not know that. Guess I can get rid of the brightness app since adjusting the brightness through the menu on the fly was painfully boring.
It seems that the phone brightness and the browser are not one in the same. I have auto turned off in the phone settings as well as power saving mode off. I typically use the notification bar slide method to adjust brightness and it works great on everything except the stock browser. It keeps getting jacked up to full on it's own, and even when I turn it down, the bookmark screen has a different intensity.
Is this a problem specific to my phone or the OS in general. I'm running stock at the moment as I haven't been brave enough to root my phone yet.

browser brightness is its own setting.
while the browser is open hit the menu button, then the more option.
brightness settings is at the bottom.
Found it, so at least I know I'm not crazy. Still find it odd though that I can change the brightness of the browser with the notification slide, but it apparently doesn't save unless you change it directly in the browser setting.

Amazing, isn't it?
Makes one wonder if Sammy even has a Usability Lab at all.
I'm guessing "no".
If you have auto brightness, adapt display and auto adjust screen tone off aswell as having brightness in browser and main settings all the way up does your phone go slightly dimmer when entering the stock browser? If someone could test this it would be brilliant! Thanks guys

i believe there's some settings you have to tick in the stock browser's settings
Do you mean the brightness and auto brightness in the browser? Brightness is at full and autobright off... take it your phone doesn't dim at all?

Go into settings>My device> and find "Power saving mode" and disable it if its enabled.
Doing this might solve your auto brightness issue.
Good luck!
Nah I've gotten used to it by now.
I only get the dimming thing when I switch to and from Google apps like Chrome.

I had the same problem but you can sort it out if you're rooted and using STweaks:
Set 'Brightness Reduction' to 0 under 'screen' settings
Dimming Problem
Hi,
I would appreciate if you guys could give my app a try. Even if you found a workaround...
It's an easy to use application that allow you to manage your screen and can allow you to stop it from dimming.
It can be configured for specific apps also. Please give me your feedback!
