Ok... So, is there anyway to force rotation-lock to turn off on a Nexus 7 with Android 4.2.2?
Reason: I cracked my screen from the bottom left of the screen to just shy of the top right corner. The lower section, below the crack, is not responsive to touch... and the dots I need (I use the pattern pass) are on this side because I can't flip the tablet.
How This Happened: I turned on rotation lock with the tablet upside down to keep it there... But then my Nexus 7 decided to restart randomly and keep rotation-lock on but coming back in the default orientation, aka the wrong way that I need it to be.
So, can anyone help?

40 people, no help...
Well, if anyone knows how to:
a.) bypass a pattern lock
b.) backup a Nexus 7 without a pass
c.) Just plan force the rotation-lock off
You should be able to reset lock pattern, as if you forgot it, supposed you know your google account password.
Then you can draw a new pattern not using the bottom dots.
What mttca said.
Probably the easiest way. Just put in the incorrect password enough and I think a "forgot password?" dialogue or something like that pops up and it asks you to manually sign into your Google account you have associated with the Nexus 7. It should then have you reset your password or something like that.

I am sure this has been dealt with, but I have tried so many searches and found nothing that could help me.
I cannot find any setting anywhere to keep the screen locked even when the keyboard slides out, and sometime sin my pocket the keyboard slides slightly but enough to turn the screen on and unlock the device.
What can I do? do I have to replace the basic lock app?
please point me in the direction of existing threads if you know of any or solutions.
cheers

Yes I would like to know that
I solve it by also using pattern type screen lock (in security settings with immediate lock on after) thus even after sliding, the HTC default lock will be unlocked, but the pattern will be required to completely unlock the phone...
If I'm not mistaken, HTC designed the Desire Z and the G2 to unlock when the keyboard is opened. Naturally, on paper, this would make sense given that you could just slide the keyboard to go right to typing. However, as stated before, if you put the pattern lock, then it shouldn't be able to unlock even when you slide.
if you have a pattern or PIN lock it won't unlock when opened.
Now. There is a nice elegant solution that I didn't think of.
And there I was trying to be simple and all I needed waas added security, thanks guys.
Setting it up now

i find this more convenient this way as i can just slightly tilt the keyboard-screen flip to unlock the phone right away.
Replace your springs in the hinge so it will close tightly and not open in your pocket

Also, using pattern prevent accidental unlocks when the screen slides along some material that it respond to. I don't use the pattern for security but as additional screen lock because the default lock is just poor
So I set up a Pattern Lock. I really like it.
only issue is having to still do the slide down lock AND then the pattern lock.
I cannot find the setting to turn off the slide lock.
what have I missed?
If you rooted your phone and installed a ROM like Cyanogenmod ... you'd have the option to unlock by using the trackpad instead hitting the power button and then slide down to unlock.
This is not a nexus 10 specific question, so sorry if there was a better place for this.
I just bought and installed HD widgets' and its great. The issue is that it has now disabled the smart cover capability of my case. Now opening the case just takes you to the lock screen, a touch annoying as you might imagine.
Due to the nature of the search terms, Google is being quite useless, focuses on adding widgets to the lock screen, not on how to sort it with a smart cover.
A anyone know how to sort this out? Many thanks.
Based on your post, I'm assuming that you want no lock screen of any kind? You want to just open the cover, and have it on the homepage? If that's correct, I may be able to help. I have HD widgets as well, but never noticed a problem because I had a pattern lock set up already.when I went to change it, the options under security for None, Slite, and Face unlock were grayed out. What I had to do to fix it was to go under Settings, Security, and clear all credentials. After this I was able to disable the lock screen. I haven't noticed any adverse effects. Everything seems to be working fine.
Hope this helps.
Is there anyway to get/flash a 4.2.2 lock screen without Samsung retarded customizations? I want one like on my rootbox rom where I could have widgets and a pin code set up. I do want to keep my current rom, and all the other Samsung stuff for now... is that possible?
You can change it a little if, while the lock screen is up, push and hold then slide down until the box appears. Tap the pen in lower right and ...profit

He said with a pin. Read
After having a few adult beverages last night i was showing this girl the fingerprint scanner lockscreen, it works no issues.... But i have no idea what I set my alternative password to to be able to change it.
I really don't want to have to do a factory reset, what are my options?
Sounds like it doubles as an IQ test too. Setting a password that you won't remember isn't a great approach. But you can get out of this mess by deleting all of your fingerprints. You can confirm the action by swiping your finger (rather than needing the password). When you've deleted all fingerprints on file, you should return to a normal lock screen.
.
This has happened twice today. I am using the phone and the voice typing display will not go away. I can use the phone.. .i can go to the homescreen, open apps, look at settings, etc, but i cannot close the voice prompt, and i can't use it.
It essesentially makes the phone useless until i reboot.
I am not sure why it is doing this. Not rooted nor unlocked or anything.. just stock.
The other thing it is doing is that sometimes when i wave my hand over the screen i will see the unlock screen. it will have the time and a lock icon below it ... if i touch the lock icon, it moves to a lower (on the screen) position and when i re adjust to hit the lock again it moves back up. Not sure how to screen shot this... maybe a video from a different phone.
when this happens, it will unlock by pressing the power button. I think this has something to do with the smart lock. DAMN google for forcing you to have a lock when you use Android Pay. Never had this problem on my Note 4 with Wallet.
Anyway, any help on either of these bugs would be appreciated
ok, i can reproduce the bug.
can someone else try this to confirm?
- with the phone screen off have someone send you a text message.
- swipe up directly to messages. ( use the google one, but i am not sure if it matters.)
- reply to the message with a google voice typing
- hit the power button to turn off the screen.
- Have the person text you again.
- open message by swiping up to it.
At this point the tap to speak screen will be there and not go away until you reboot.
no one else?

I can try it when I get my phone, but that's a few weeks away...
