usually a simple reboot, solve the issue. if not try these:
- Clear the cache of the Google Play Store app
- Uninstall updates to the Google Play Store app
- Clear the Download Manager cache and data
- Clear the Google Services Framework cache and data
- Reboot

I got that error about a year ago on my sgs2. At that time it had something to do with the app trying to install on my external SD card. Not sure if that helps you out in this case though.
If i remember correctly i had to do something with permissions in my case.

First I would test it on a different WiFi LAN. I have seen "Content Filtering Software" mess with software packages before. Try local coffee shop WiFi. Second, if you have a custom ROM, check if others have the same issue.

duh. deleting gmail acc and resigning in wont actually work. it depends on dalvik cache and in your router. thats it

Heard it was your router's fault. I tried cleaning dalvik but still i get this occasional inavlid package while downloading apps

Okay, I've had this issue off and on for several weeks. This past week, it's been ON and nothing, and I mean none of the prescriptions I found worked.
FINALLY I tried one more self prescribed pill.
In Titanium Backup I first thought I could freeze the app and try installing as if it were new. That didn't work because the Play Store still sees that app but as disabled.
Still in TiBu, I did a Backup>Verify>Uninstall, went to Play and VOILA!! I was able to download again without the error.
I too had this issue. I could not even pull my 4.2.2 update...
I am Belgian and I bought my Nexus on the German Play Store. When I used the VPN settings I used to order the device, it works; if I don't, it doesn't. Ergo, there had to be some configuration on the phone indicating it was "supposed" to be used on the German play store.
So I unlocked the bootloader (fastboot oem unlock) and flashed the factory image on it. You can get these from Google, search for it and you will find them. XDA does not allow me to post a link because I don't have sufficient posts...
Anyway, now it works perfectly. No problems at all.
If you have this problem, this is the way to go!
I just resolved my problem "Package file is invalid."
Download Hideman VPN from Play Store, Market or Google it "Hideman VPN.apk" --> Install --> Open --> Tap Connect and enjoy downloading million of apps again without getting any type of error.

Same Thing here I did try downloading and installing from the cell network without WiFi and that did work. But it sucks that cant use WiFi. Clearly there are issues with 4.3.10!
Hideman VPN Worked for me on my WIFI but there is something going on today with play store/play services. There is another forum of 497 errors which I had before I ended up here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44367779

All my backed up apps are giving me a download error (error 923)

What the heck does this mean? I'm installing a ROM and I'm getting these errors when all of my apps are trying to be restored.
Pacman ROM.

Im guessing thats a play store error? If yes then log out of your gmail acc from your phone. Go to the playstore app in file manager and delete data. Reboot and re add your acc and try to restore apps again
Error 923

[Q] Google Play Issue

I first had this issue when I installed the Themer Beta App.
Whenever I try to download an app now, it gives me"Error retrieving information from server [RPC:S-5:AEC-0]"
I've tried clearing the data and cache for the Google Play Store, Download Manager, Google Services Framework, etc. I've also tried removing my Google account and going into recovery and clearing cache and fixing permisions. Anyone have a workaround for this?
If it matters: SGH-M919 T-Mobile OMEGA V12 on 4.2.2.
Help Would Be Appreciated :fingers-crossed:
EDIT: I don't know how or why, but it fixed itself, tried to download an app, and it worked, if anyone has any further issues, feel free to post here
Same here in Nexus 4,
i think their server is down
Em also getting an error " server down retry " on my s4.
