Hi
I tried MultiROM to install Ubuntu Touch but finally i couldn't boot into ubuntu touch
i read lots of tutorials and watched some videos to find problem but i couldn't find !!!
as main tutorial;
Ubuntu touch preview
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38300214&postcount=104
i Downloaded files and installation was successfully
i Just got this error that i don't know what to do with it that says not found boot.img and try to use current boot.img
should i flash Boot.img (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-to...ent/saucy-preinstalled-boot-armel+grouper.img) to bootloader of N7 !?!?
Or any other download link that contain boot.img or maybe thr s special thing to download and no one mentioned !!!
pls help
ThnX
---
Really silly mistake :|
i just flashed both .zip as Add ROM in multiRom
while i should flash first saucy-preinstalled-armel+grouper as Add ROM
and then Flash .zip to it through list ROMs and Add .zip to it
anyway sorry for mistake
and thnks for who read my problem
:good:
The guide didn't mention anything about flashing a kexec-hardboot kernel which I remember something about it needing... I have tried both Ubuntu Touch and Desktop on my Nexus and they are barely usable.

Ther are two main points here- Ubuntu desktop is installable as standalond AND with multirom. The latter requires kexec. Ubuntu touch is installable as standalone, but not multirom at this moment. Tasssadar has stated he will be fixing the ubuntu touch install process in his next multirom release.
As a side note, Ubuntu desktop can indeed feel very rough to use, but an otg and your basic usb peripherals will make a huge difference.

Yes, that is for the old zip installables. The newer nightlies system are in tar.gz with a different structure, not currently supported by multirom. As I said, you are using the old developer preview.
Here are the newer nightlies link

This is tasssadars post from July 4th
" Nah, new Ubuntu touch images gonna need some work. TWRP 2.6 should come out sometime soon (one or two weeks), so I'm gonna do it all at once when it is out - merge 2.6 into my modified TWRP and add support for new Ubuntu touch."

hello,
as you probably know ubuntu has bin able to run on the nexus one and evo 4g i have spoken to the dev of both the ''mods'' and he has informed me that if someone can make a kernel for the droid x with loop devices enabled and u follow hes video its possible that ubuntu can run on the droid x.he's exact words are ''You will need a new kernel image with loop devices enabled I think. I haven't tried it on Droid X yet but it should be possible with that new kernel. You should ask someone on XDA to compile a new kernel with loop device support, someone will do it.'' and im hopping someone here can do it and we can all run ubuntu on out droid x's i would do it myself if i had any idea of what to do lol.
thank you for your help and good luck to all ubuntu loving droid x users.
You can't flash a new kernel but you can probably build loop as a module.
As for ubuntu I had sucess in running Debian from my second SD partition in a chroot environment. I installed with debootsrap and have apt nmap wifi, etc. I just need to compile a compatible kernel (for ubuntu not android) for a full install.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
As of right now we have no way to boot a custom kernel even if one were to be created.
yea and how long can it take for u to compile one for ubuntu and once you have compiled one for ubuntu will it actually work for booting ubuntu even in ui mode as i can use terminal but it would be more eye-candy with the UI

sounds good man , so will this be like a rom i install and that enables me to install ubuntu?
Gotta love open source!
can u tell me how to get debian on my droid x?
Has any progress been made on creating a loop device module and getting ubuntu( or any distro) running on our droidx?
I'm willing to test.
I have been busy lately an unable to post a mini guide on getting this done. Just had my first child!!
In anycase I haven't tried making a loop module, I am waiting for the 2.2 kernel source. But I did make a second ext3 partition on my sd card and used debootstrap to install debian. It is currently only a chroot environment but I can use apt to install pacakgrs over wifi.
Hopefully in a few days I will have some time to post a step by step. If you want to try you can do some research on debootstrapp. I used a card reader to format the sd and use debootstrap to install ubuntu or debian.

If you have windows installed you just boot to the ubuntu cd and go through the setup. It will give you the option to resize the drive to make a partition for Ubuntu. Pick a size and go through the install. Once it is done when you boot you will have the option to boot from Windows or Ubuntu. If I remember right it will default to Ubuntu if you don't make a choice within the defined time. You can edit Grub to change that. You can do this to change it to windows if you prefer http://www.hackourlife.com/change-default-boot-order-ubuntu-10-04-lucid/.

Or you could edit the updater-script . But really, if your gonna get your hands dirty and make flashable zips you should look at someone elses first. Or, even write your own from scratch.

Seting up the development environment
What is not in the guide:
Code:

phablet-dev-bootstrap ./ #this will take a while, it will download all sources except the kernel if I understood right
Edit .repo/manifest.xml and add following at the same xml level where the other project tags are.
(First search for, maybe they are already in that file)
Code:
then again on console:
Code:
repo sync
Code:
adb devices #just a short check to see if the connection is working, if it's in the list, go further, if not check whats the problem
. build/envsetup.sh
brunch cm_n7000-userdebug #if everything is ok, this will take a while
put the zip you get in the output onto your sdcard, download saucy-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip
reboot your n7000 into recovery mode, backup and flash first the preinstalled and then the build.
Have fun

You don't have to use cm, you can use AOSP.
You can even use Samsungs kernel source (I haven't bothered building the latest so no idea how good it is our not) and the binary blobs from the latest stock build.
I'm building it for one of my tablets at the mo from AOSP, using an old but working kernel.

Hi, I recently installed Ubuntu desktop on my Nexus 7 using multirom.
It all went well and works well if you use a mouse with an OTG cable, I understand it was meant for developers but has anyone been able to install the tegra 3 drivers and keep unity/taskbar working?
When I install the drivers and reboot, it boots up and looks better but doesn't have unity or the taskbar. I can get into terminal with a keyboard and pretty much everything can open but its not exactly usable this way.
Thanks.

Which Tegra 3 drivers are you talking about? Ubuntu Desktop for Nexus 7 should already come with all the drivers it needs.
Its very slow and doesn't play videos, only sound. Also, in "about this computer" or something like that, none of the hardware or even the devices name is recognized. Here's a link to it https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/armhf/nvidia-tegra3/16.0-0ubuntu3

Yes, those drivers are already included in Ubuntu Desktop for Nexus 7. They do have issues though (lots of screen tearing). Playing video shouldn't be a problem though if you have the right codecs installed.

Yes that's normal. Canonical ported Ubuntu to the Nexus 7 solely to test it and optimize it for low-spec devices. They didn't do a whole lot to polish it up and make it presentable for end users because that wasn't really their goal
Oh, let me offtop a little.
Is there any "easy" way to try out Ubuntu on grouper? I mean easy like flashing zip in recovery and then restore back to android...

Yeah man. Multirom is an app made for nexus devices that let's you multiboot ROM and distros. I've got cm11, ubunut and active plasma installed right now. Just read the how to's on this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011403 and download the Ubuntu 13.04 from that page. If you want a few other distros for multirom get them here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093797. It really is the easiest way to actually dual boot. And the dev is amazingly helpful. Don't hesitate to report a bug to him.
