So I'm confused; what is the correct order to start upgrading your Huawei u8800? Which is the thing to start with? From what i gathered, the first thing is to do a backup and the best way to do it is with Clockworkmod, but when i check CWM page here on XDA, it says root requiered. Ultimate Guide to Huawei U8800 says that i can root the phone with Super Boot, so should i just go with that and worry about backup later? What if i screw my phone up and don't have a backup? Then is the part of selecting a proper ROM, and i think that i'm interested in the most stable one, so wich one i should go with (oh, and a circular battery with a presentage would be nice) custom or just a firmware update? And the Re-Partition mentioned in MoDaCos Ultimate Guide to Huawei U8800, does it also require a root?
Sorry for the n00b questions, but well, i am one.
I would recommend upgrading to stock ROMs first, but in order to install a custom ROM, you need both root and recovery mod. These 2 functions are being are done from the "shadow" memory, using 2 img files (boot.img and recovery.img).
To access that memory and replace the 2 files follow these steps:
1) Download the boot file and rename it to boot.img ( should be "boot.u8800-modaco-superboot-r1") from here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...nd-then-some-for-the-huawei-u8800-ideos-x5/om here the zip file (rename if not called that recovery.img).
2) Download and extract the recovery file (extract.zip) from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14870348
3) Turn off your phone and unplug the usb cable. Make sure you have enough battery (at least 50%).
2) Turn on your phone, holding VOL+, VOL- and POWER (should come up with pink screen, to indicate access to shadow memory)
3) Connect the usb cable and the driver should install (don't worry if it says drivers not found, the partition called "image" should still be accessible)
4) Browse your phone to find the folder with boot.img and recovery.img. Copy these 2 files somewhere on your computer, to create a backup of the original files. Now, replace both files with the ones you've downloaded.
5) Remove the battery from the phone to exit "shadow" memory.
To access the recovery mod, press VOL+ and Power, while the phone is off.
I hope this helps...
It does help, thanks! The rooting AND the recovery installation are done simultaneously. But i still have few conserns. Does this all work backwards? I mean in the case of hardware breakage - if i am giving the phone back to maintenance - can i just re-replace the original boot.img and recovery.img and thus "unroot" the phone? Previously recovering backupped data? Is the phone then as it were before whole prosidure?

Yes, replacing all things you done with stock will by default revert it to normal.
Right. One more thing, though this is a bit beside the subject. The re-partitioning, when upgraded from 600mb to 1.2G, does this actually add space for running apps or gives only more installation space?

Yes it gives both actual space for installation. Running apps will always be loaded into ram and swap.
So RAM is its own thing and separate from (ROM?) the increasable space? But what is the actual gain IN increasing it? More apps in the phone? But I've read that the phone gets all cluttered and buggy, if its full of apps. Is this the gain in re-partitioning?

Where have you read that?
The thing is huawei included a external storage(build in SD card) which had the size of 2GB, and internal storage at 600MB, with geno's partition flash you just change the partitions, the 600MB becomes external storage, and the 2GB(1.2GB data) becomes internal storage. So we gain rather than lose storage. So I have used it for now quite and not experienced any problem.
Please link me up on where you found out this cluttered and buggy thing with this ok?
I think that I accidentally misled you on this. It was some SGS(maybe) thread that I read sometime ago. The talk was about phone being laggy and probable cause that it was full of apps. So I kinda gathered that if any android phone is stuffed full of applications, it gets slow. But I guess I am wrong?

Aha, well if the phone gets sluggish is because swap and ram is being used and less free for other processes. You could make it similar to any OS. I have tried once with this phone filled it up had 6mb left wasn't sluggish at.
So if I have still 389mb phone memory left free, re-partitioning isn't really acute procedure for me?

The partition thing will work independently, only thing it does is formatting the external storage(2GB) and then moves all your data on to the 2GB internal SD and that's it. You can do this if you feel like you need lots of space for apps ok?
Yes, I understand. And since I still have lots of free space left, I think I save this for later. Thanks for explaining this to me. Oh jeah, what custom ROM would you recommend? Preferably one that has all its bugs smoothed out?

Uhm, I am really uncertain about this fact. It seems like phones from different regions have different problems with ROMs.
I would say like this, take a tour , visit different roms out and try out them for yourself and see which one suits your needs and such things.
What I use

I am using this because I seem to have problems with other roms out nowdays. Might be only me

Well, the superuser application is there for applications who require root access to make changes and such thing, so if you were to use SetCPU, noAds or Titanium Backup, they will require access from superuser(root). So don't worry, it works but you need something that demands root access to see anything happen !
And yet more questions. Is there a way to upgrade the touch screen? I mean to up the number of simultaneous touches from two to more?

Hi, you can use this program: http://www.piriform.com/recuva or a similar one (Read about them, try them all) (Mounting your phone as mass storage)
Or search Google and try everything! (Ok, not EVERYTHING, just things that make sense in a trusted webpage...)
Best Luck

Firstly, take the SD card out of your phone so that the deleted files don't get overwritten by anything installed.
Then use some non-destructive data recovery tools (Google) to search and undelete the mp4 files.
If that fails you can always pay a professional data recovery service.
But don't use the SD card for anything else in the meantime.

Yeah. Get it out of your phone. Your data is recoverable so long as something isnt over written onto it. Else you're going to need some FBI level recovery to remove newly written data and separate it from your sons birthday cake.

hi all,
I got a problem. I am now using Nexus 7 with 4.2 (multi user support)
I have 2 users on my Nexus 7. I want to install the same APK on both users. I can install the APK on the primary user successfully. However, for the 2nd user, whenever I finished the APK installation, it states the APK is not installed.
Is there any settings or tick allowing me to install APK on the 2nd user?
Many thanks

You are doing it wrong...
When you set up a second user, they have their own account. On that user, open the Play store.
Under options, click Add account and enter the account you use on your main user.
Uncheck all the Synch options.
Now you will see all the apps you installed on the main user.
Just click Install on all the ones you want the second user to have.
They will install instantly - no download - and a symlink will be set to your main copy.
This way you never have two copies of the same app eating up your space.
At this point you can delete the Play store reference to your main account or just leave it.
Note: Don't use Root with multiuser until someone fixes it. Lag will make the nexus unuseable.

It's true, transferring the apk from ur computer to your android device using adb will make the apk visible to both the primary and secondary user.
What I did was:
Setup the adb thing (which was a quite an ordeal on it's own).
Then using the push command, transferred my apk to my device.
adb push C:\path\to\file\origianlFileName.apk /sdcard/Download/newFileName.apk
I chose a new filename (MCPE.apk) because the original had spaces and was long and hard to memorize.
The transfer was successful, but when I check to see if it was there, using ASTRO File Manager and also Windows,
the file name was the original file name (what it was called on my computer). Installing it at this point didn't work.
But then I renamed the file (using windows) back to "MCPE.apk" and THEN it installed correctly!!
YAY!!
Also before installing, I made the secondary user a developer, by that weird "Build Number" trick.
Not sure if that has any effect..
I am unable to install apk from my secondary user ,I even tried to rename the apks , I am able to download apps from playstore , the same apks install fine under the primary user , though enabled unknown sources option is greyedout for secondary user and I am not able to enable developer option for the secondary user ( the build tap procedure doesn't seems to work ) , I am on 4.4.2 , did anyone able to get through this ?

I may know the issue.
If you install an APK on the primary user and if you have updated the version of such APK to a newer version before you install the original APK to the Second user account, you will have such problem.
So, make sure to install on both user accounts with same APK.
Just got the white variant yesterday, rooted using the toolkit in the Dev forum, also updated to 4.3 before that.
Bottom line is when I install titanium, I cant backup because I get a storage space error. I was able to backup once but then none of my apps stick, meaning no backups can be found even tho I just backed them up.
Lastly, I lost root after flashing Slim and Carbon. I have root with PA, though.
Thanks.

Try changing backup storage location in titanium backup preferences. Hit detect, whole device, then try changing that. I have seen people say use the legacy location in 4.3, but I have had trouble with the storage error using that. Right now storage/emulated/0/TitaniumBackup is checked on mine.

ok my friend couple questions what size is your phone and also do you have backups on there already. Was your backup from 4.2? I ask about that because file system changed and thats why you were instructed to try the other folder options. Now also are you properly rooted and using es file explorer or my favorite root explorer?
There are a few factors to figure out when resolving your issue but your question quite honestly is all over the forum and maybe a little searching may help you find your answer. If not post more here so we can figure it out...

Alright, my Nexus is the 16gb white version, a newer one because it has those two little bumps on the back to help against glass damage. Also I updated officially to 4.3...THEN rooted, flashed TWRP 2.6.3.0, flashed PA and installed a handful of apps, including ES EXPLORER. I had a previous version of Titanium Pro, which wouldn't let me backup (got the error stating storage capacity), I tried to choose a different backup location and selected "Whole Device", then immediately get the "no back up folder" error.
I then went to the play store, installed the newest trial version of Titanium...and I WAS able to backup, but as soon as I would restart my phone, the backups would disappear. BUT they backups are still stored in my ES explorer in a default folder: /storage/Titanium/Backups (the text may not be exact but the location is right).
So bottom line is that I can't access the folder which holds my backups...thru Titanium. I can see them when I open ES, though.

I just did this on my own before seeing your post- hopefully you will find this useful.
I used this set of APKs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965468
Grab Email-JB.apk and Exchange2.apk
First, you need to completely uninstall (not just freeze) the LG Email app. I used Titanium Back to do this- make a backup of the app first in case you ever wanted to go back for whatever reason. Once the LG Email app is uninstalled, you can install the 2 AOSP APKs.
I didn't try installing them normally (download->open->install), it's worth a shot- instead I used the directions in the post to push the APKs via ADB.
You should see "Success" after pushing both via ADB (I did Exchange2.apk first, but I can't imagine it would matter). Unplug your phone, open Email, and you're set. My Email is syncing perfectly with my corporate email, no lock screen password required.

YES!!!!!!!!!! This totally works..
Thank you for looking out, and thanks for posting this ... I've been waiting to be able to add this .. and having to carry 2 phones to check email because I didnt want to be pinlocked on my G2!!
My procedure -
Rom tool box free for the uninstall, the titanium way didnt work for me because I have TWRP installed .. and when it would try the recovery removal .. it would boot to TWRP instead of the stock recovery ...
Anyways, Rom Toolbox free has an uninstall utility, couldnt be easier .. uninstalls without a reboot needed.
Turned on wireless storage, copied over exchange2.apk and Email-jb.apk and installed through android .. didnt use the ADB method .... it works perfectly!!!!!!
Thanks again.
That works. Only downside is it removed the feature of peak and off peak for message retrieval. oh well.

Here is an Xposed module designed for the G2 that bypasses the Exchange password policy. Use at your own risk.

Tried this several ways, but it does not install. Can u give some more direction on this? Do we put itf in the apps folders? Flash it? Any advice would be appreciated. I like the lg email app and don't want to go back to the stock one if possible.
if someone figures out how to do this with the stock email app that comes with the att version, that would be awesome. I like that version better than the one you have to install to get this to work.
I really hate having to use a pin, but I have to give my work permission to remote wipe my phone. Is there any chance this could be flagged by my employer and they remote wipe my phone? That would really suck because of the lack of memory card. Anybody that has been remote wiped, did it affect the entire phone, or just the main system?
