So TWRP gave up on me earlier, I coudn't flash/ boot/ or anything if the sort. I downloaded ODIN and flashed the stock rom onto it, but now my phone is just stuck on Samsung logo with custom on the bottom (I was rooted before). When I enter recovery, there is
failed to make directory /data/log (Read-only file system)
E:File Open error
I ran ODIN 3 times, all to instruction, but no luck, what else can I do?

What were you trying to flash and why from stock recovery? Have you rooted your defy and installed 2ndinit? You can't install any custom roms from Stock Recovery. CWM recovery is meant for such purposes.

You can't just remove the extension. You need to unpack the sbf file with WinRar or 7-zip then flash it. .gz means that file is compressed and you need to unpack it!

Hey there everyone,
Basically I was running cyanogenmod 10.1 on my galaxy s4 and i downloaded an up update from the Cyanogenmod updater (in settings). I then tried to flash this by TWRP but it failed and when I tried turning the phone on, it was stuck at the 'Galaxy S4 I9505' boot logo.
After that, I tried flashing my update.zip which I made from titanium backup but it kept failing to mount or repartition the system and cache.
So then I wiped davlic cache, cache and data but still
It didn't work (kept failing when repartitioning). So then I wiped system and now after browsing through the forum I realized that this wasn't the right thing to do as I don't have system files.
I can access TWRP recovery and download mode.. Could someone please help me in simple steps as I am a noob
Thank you in advance

So I rooted my G2 using this method: http://theunlockr.com/2013/10/25/root-lg-g2-versions-video/
And flashed CWM using this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468858
And everything worked perfectly.
I could boot into recovery, all that stuff, but then some stuff went wrong when I tried to flash CM10.2..
I used ROM Manager, and backed up the ROM, which only sort of worked, being unable to back up 'system'
It then tried to flash CM10.2, but was stuck so I force shut down.. Now it's in boot loop, with the LG logo, and I'm unsure how to boot into recovery (tried volume up +Power, volume down+Power, niether worked)... What should I do?

Hi,
To enter in recovery it's a little more subtle , it's in the OP where you take your recovery...:
HOW TO ENTER RECOVERY
Method 1: Hold the power button + volume down button until the LG image appears. Once it does let go of the buttons then immediately push and hold them again until recovery boots.
NOTE: The method above will arrive at the "hard reset" area, but when choosing hard reset, it will take you to CWM (without actually resetting).

In recovery, do a full wipe then flash CM (right version for your phone?) and see if it boots.
Otherwise, return to full stock or use an OTG cable to push another rom (if your actual recovery support it), at least to have a working phone before flashing something else...
And backup your rom directly in recovery, not with Rom Manager...

Yes, I believe so.
That method I just attempted now, but: 09:02:28 : Launching SW update
09:02:28 : Unpacking KDZ
09:02:29 : KDZ file extraced
09:02:29 : Extract file error
09:02:31 : ===FINISHED===
So yeah, it didn't work :/
I'm completely lost.

The md5 is 2e42d58646ae740d56d7ae3ab10204a5, maybe it's the wrong one? It did say it's for the D802, though, which is definitely what I have.
I'm in the exact same situation.
Did you resolve the issue with the return to stock guide? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
I'm thinking that it could be possible to put a different ROM on the sdcard via mounting CWM but not sure how to go about doing this, any suggestions?
Thanks
Sounds like you installed stock wrong... remember to click "Normal web upgrade test" first before clicking "Upgrade Start" in new window. The log shows u clicked "upgrade start" before clicking "normal web upgrade test"

Thank you so much! was freaking out, getting the boot loop and nothing would respond! Now restoring my previous working version!
Hello there,
After trying a lot of solutions and hours reading threads, i decided to create this post to ask for help.
I`ve got a i9500 device and after restart it just started with a bootloop.
So, flashed stock rom + pit and nothing is working for me.
When i start stock recovery for factory reset, i have "Failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)" and i have no /EFS folder backup (I lost it).
Another thing, after flash Custom CWM i can't see any folder or file when installing zip from sdcard.
It's like I can't access sdcard anymore.
ODIN ends with no error after flash.
Please help!, tryed many solution before post this.
Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

Sorry dude,
But i can't see in any computer the Sdcard when i mount in CWM. Tried with PhilZ and Samerd CWM
It's weird, cause i've been flashing with ODIN Stock + PIT, PIT, then Stock, PIT + STOCK, Wipe factory reset from Stock Recovery and nothing worked.
Ok, so finally i made it work with Cyanogenmod 11 but now i`ve got a generic IMEI i can't restore it. If I flash any stock rom the phone don't boot.
Pls help!!
Finnaly, i get to a repair shop and fixed my problem. Thanks anyway!
Hi, i flashed my phone with custom rom and my phone keep restarting everytime i started it. And i cant use recovery (twrp) because it restarts in recovery mode too, it can go only in download mode.. please tell me its not hard brick that cant be fixed in software. Thanks
Well if it only restarts in download mode the only thing you can do is to return to stock. Download the latest firmware of your device variant and flash it via Odin. I suggest you to flash a lollipop one and then update to Marshmallow if you want.

Yo!
First, calm down because its not hard brick You can fix it and its quite easy.
Follow these steps:
1) Download and install the proper DRIVERS for your phone (it should be done automatically when you connect the phone to the PC).
2) The phone should have at least 50% battery!
3) Download ODIN program. I'm using v3.09
4) Download the stock rom for J500FN from here: MEDIAFIRE <--- click . This is a firmware which i have uploaded in past, for faster download and is based on 5.1.1 lollipop.
If you want other firmware, then check on SAMMOBILE or other website.
You can use SamFirm to download firmwares faster: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647 (even if says deprecated, it works fine).
5) Extract ODIN archive and run it (.exe file).
6) Extract the stock rom .zip archive and you will get a xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5 file (xxxxxxxxxx= name of the stock rom)
7) Restart the phone in DOWNLOAD MODE, by holding Power + Home + Volume down buttons same time.
A "Warning" window will apear, now press the "vol up" button to get "DOWNLOAD MODE" and conect the phone to the pc
If the ODIN see the phone, on the "ID:COM"line(midle-left) you will see "0:[COMx]"(x= port number)
8) On the ODIN press "AP" button, a window will apear, search in it the location of the xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5, select it and open.
9) Now press "START" button and wait until ODIN finish.
When it finish, the phone will boot automatically and in ODIN will apear a big green PASS.
10) Phone is booting. Yayyy!
