Moga / tablet - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i just got my moga pro controller this thing i freaking awesome
so basically, i use my phone a lot, and i have a nexus4, so when i play games it sort of dies quick, (i have a powerbank but i dont wanna consistantly have a wire coming from my phone when trying to game) so i wanted to ask everyone here ifthey know/and or have an idea on how to make some sort of custom stand i can attach to this controller that will hold my nexus 7 above the controller like it does with my phone.
im open to any ideas and suggestions just nothing thatll look to ugly you know? thanks !

Hey how bout using a car mount a just plant it on something.......

The pro version comes with a tablet stand. I'd say that if Moga decided that was the way to go then why argue? Just get a stand yourself. There are a number of threads in the accessories subforum on stands.

Gamepad for Nexus..... Your Android Phone?

So am interested, Most people who have a Tablet have a Android phone too right....
Well maybe, Anyway i was sitting there playing GTA last night, and it would of been pretty sweet if i could of just put me Tablet on its stand.
Pull out my phone and use that as a controller instead...
Sure i know about Sixaxis Controller, But i dont always walk around with a PS3 Controller in my pocket.
Anyway Question is, Does anyone know of a App that could turn your phone into a Gamepad,
That could be detected by the Nexus 7, and used as a Controller?
Or am i really silly and alone with this idea lol
Tablet Remote will do this. Theres probably a few others out there to.

Hey all, my first post here. I bought this tablet and really like it but im torn. I have the Nexus 7 which i carry everywhere since it fits in my back pockets and i also have a macbook air. I have people left and right telling me that i dont need this tablet when i have those other 2. Feeling guilty here now i guess. I want to wait and see jellybean on it as well but should i just return it? I got it at bestbuy so returning it is not a problem.
Also, does anyone elses have a slight creak on the back around where the micro sd card slot is?
Thanks for your time
If you need a tablet with pen input then keep It. If not you are right It is a bit redundant.

I suppose i should. I dont really NEED the pen function but this tablet just screams amazing to me. I had an ipad 3 as well but i sold it once i tried this thing out. Its gonna hurt to return this -.-

I had the N7 and N10.1, sold the N7 decided to keep the 10.1.
Pre-ordered the N7 at GS, the lack of SD was a real issue.
Bought the 10.1 to give it a try, never touched the N7 again.

The last time I checked, we still have free will. That means you can have as many tablets as you want and you don't have to feel guilty about it.
you don't need it. but you sure as hell do want it!
Well let me put it this way.
Before I owned this tablet I owned the 7 inch HTC View. A fine tablet. I found myself using my phone to browse the web as often as I used the tablet because honestly, 7 inches just isn't much different than a phone.
Now that I have this tablet I NEVER use my phone to browse the web except when I am away from home. In that light, it may be your 7 inch tablet that is redundant and not your SGN10.1.
Yea i have guilt from everyone telling me to return it, plus it is pricey. I love my N7 too, i just use the otg cable with a 120gb hd when i need it
I havent learned everything i can do with the pen yet but just having it feels good haha. I want people to be able to sign pdfs and write there info in it correctly, i should be able to do this somehow right? Goodness im torn right now -.-
I also have a nexus 7, 15" laptop, and galaxy note 10.1. I felt guilty too but after awhile i realize they both serve different purpose. Nexus 7 is great size for ebook reading and games and the galaxy note 10.1 is great for music listening and watching movies as well as being able to take notes in class for me.
If i had to choose one it would be the galaxy note 10.1 for its overall utility.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk 2
I have both tablets and each has its place. I enjoy using the Nexus 7 for gaming since its the right size to not be too unwieldy moving it around.
The Note 10.1 is great for browsing, movies and music.... The Nexus 7 is also my "kindle" since its easier to hold. The Samsung is my multimedia device.... In fact I have a third tablet (The Acer A700) that I'm looking to sell *cough* since I no longer have a need for it. I would say you need to do what YOU need to do and don't be influenced by other people and have them make your decisions...
Thanks for all the help and advice. I prefer watching movies on it becuase i like the size and the speaker. If i didnt have my mac air this would be a non issue. I just feel i can do everything on the air and use the N7 on the go, but something in me wont let go of the Note haha. I love the touch and pen. Maybe im jusy crazy -.-
Your crazy? This is my eighth tablet ... I change gadgets like underpants. I also have a nexus 7 right now. I've stopped using it since I got the note 10.1 because my galaxy s3 is much more portable and the note is better for other uses such as web browsing and music (great speakers for a tablet and Wolfson dac).
Do other people judge me? Yes
Do I care? No
Half the time I think they are just envious of my awesome toys.
At any rate the note is in the same class as my s3 right now. First two devices I feel are amazing out of the box without having to root and tinker. First Androids I may keep more than a couple of months. In m my minds eye we are at a turning point for android. For the first time we have devices which can go head to head with iCrap and win. Even quite a few non tech savvy people are now choosing flagship Samsung devices over Apple because Samsung are starting to produce such nice gear.
Actually I'm kidding myself. I'll be getting an s4 and a note 10.1.2 shortly after they release. Maybe the next nexus phone as well ... sigh ... so hard to keep up with the tech.

Yes, indeedy.
Is there a way to write accurately onto a PDF with this thing? I am a photographer and I would like to use it to possibly have release forms signed on this instead of using prints all the time. I am surprised that a few people want me to get rid of the Macbook Air to keep this =]
I dont play hardly any games on the Android platform really, either on the SG10 or the N7. I just use them for browsing, emails, movies, and reading. But yes, the SG10 is just one fine piece of work.
I do also have the S3 and had the original Note
I have four tablets ..an iPad, an 2 HTC views and now a Note 10.1. I use them all.
I love the 7 in HTC for work and taking meeting notes. It is small and works well around the office.
I have a second View which I like for books and take it with me a lot since it fits in the pocket. I also have 4G on it from.sprint.
The ipad has some cool music features apps like garage band and used it a lot but now with the 10.1 I am able to get all the songs and other content all in one platform. The pen integration is pretty cools as well

the devs get the phone to work
I'm very happy with my tab and after rooting its even more wonderful. Also i always prefere an open system before iOS.
But maybe thats just me.
The build quality is amazing for that price imho.

For starters, there aren't alot of problems with it. The only issue is that the left side of the screen has some weird screen lift. It isn't noticeable unless you look at it at an angle and are really looking for it. Not all have this problem and it seems to be corrected in the newer units with the exclusion of 2 screws (the culprits).
Other then that, it is a great tab. Hardware wise, the N7 is vastly superior. The rubberized back is awesome.
Plus the iPad Mini is retarded. It isn't that much smaller then a regular iPad 4 that is a much better buy if going the iPad route.
I've owned an iPad1 and iPad2 (trying to diverse) but found that Apple products aren't very productive and useless outside of media consumption. I can get the same satisfaction out of my Android Tab with the benefit of actually using it for work. Once I had my fill of a few Apple specific games, I started to use it less and less and less. To the point where it would just sit on the charger for days without use. My Nexus 7 gets it's use. I use it interchangeably with my phone so much that my phone lasts MUCH longer and my N7 is needing a charger by midnight (from 8am). All of the games, surfing, XDA, facebooking, tweeting, etc is done on the N7. My phone is for calls, emails, and SMS/Chatting. Both are happy.
It is also very nice to have an Android phone and tablet since you can bounce between both using similar apps and really marry them with some great apps. DataSync automatically keeps my app data in sync, so my game saves are constant on either device. Apps and Games I buy for my tablet also work on my phone without a separate purchase. I use WiFi Tethering with my 4G Galaxy Nexus to keep them both on the same network with internet access. When Tethered, I can also use WiFi File Explorer to share files from either device.
Awesome experience. The small size of the N7 is really great. I came from a 10" Asus Transformer and I love the pocketable size. It fits in a coat pocket to free my hands or stows in a glove box.
I use a Portenzo Book Cover case and it's great.
I love my 32GB N7 had it for over a week and it's a dream to use, add the Tablet Talk app that's available from the Play Store and you can use it as a fully functional phone (but you have to tether to phone over WiFi or Bluetooth, and calls are routed through the phone speaker/microphone).

What's the point of using N7 as a phone if you have to tether it to your existing phone?

Well SMS is one possible benefit. When you are laying on the couch surfing on your N7 and your phone is on the charger across the room... sucks to get up. I keep my phone stuff separate from my tablet stuff though, but I can see several cases where it would be useful.
Phone calls basically works with having a bluetooth headset and essentially using the tablet as a "remote" to answer/decline calls from your phone.
At least this is my understanding.
Regardless, this is still a great benefit for having paired an Android Phone/Tablet.

is there any way to get full screen when using the browser instead of it always showing the address line and so.. ??
do any of you think it stupid to bye a 7" inch tablet when having NOTE 2 as a phone when its 5.5" inch ?
At this point, just get another Mini. Google is showing that they can't even be assed to support their own flagship devices, and continue shipping out updates with broken Bluetooth and WiFi. These are not the actions of a company who cares about their customers.

I don't know, I only use the app to text from as it's quicker than having to pick my phone up to reply to a text, and the bigger screen makers it easier to type than on the small keyboard of my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S.

They've said that they will be releasing a fix for 4.2 before December. That it's in 3days. They would be insane to not care about customers and to say get an iPad because the nexus update has a few problems that they are working on is not helpful really.

They released 4.2.1 today, the update you are talking about, and it has fixed a whole bunch of NOTHING in regards to critical systems. Woohoo, I can set a birthday but I can't use my bluetooth devices, and if I try the screeching and popping and skipping make them worthless.
So excuse me, but I am a long time Nexus owner and Android enthusiast. The changes they have made to the BT stack were unwarranted and unneeded as of 4.1, so why did they do it? I would be out of a job if my change control process were this piss poor.
Return that crappy ipad mini and pocket that extra kroner on a nexus 7. One thing you might miss is the back camera which is useful for barcode scanning, pdf scanning and other apps like that (for actual photos, it's silly though)

Interesting to hear the comments trashing 4.2 and Google in other threads and then you come to this thread and no one is having issues. I got my Nexus 7 on last Friday and have stayed at 4.1.2 based on the flaming 4.2 is getting.
Not sure what to believe.

TF300T n00b with questions & observations...

Bought my TF300T Christmas day and picked up on the 26th. So... I'm a TF300T n00b.
I do have a Kindle fire that I TWRP'ed and installed a ROM (from here) and I liked having an Android tablet (wife has an iPad) but I needed a bigger screen than the Kindle had. I also have a Droid Razr as we recently switched over to Verizon. AND.... an Android VM in VirtualBox on my computer (I've run linux since 2005). So I'm not a tech n00b so much but a TF300T n00b for sure.
This is a nice tablet! I'm still learning. I wanted to put music on the TF300 and try it out as a media server. My DirecTV receiver can see media servers on the network here. I have Media Tomb running on my PC but wanted to see what the TF300T could do.
I had a hard time figuring out how to put music on the TF300.Linux didn't see the device when I plugged it in to USB. I found that a bit odd, but....
Not wanting to boot to Windows for this I eventually found AirDroid so I could move my mp3 files over to the TF300. That seemed to work out well and AirDroid appears to be well written. Certainly has a much better interface than I expected from a free app. AND.... I don't have to boot to Windows just to move music around.
Tried Google Play Music, but.... just not feelin' the love on this one. I like that I can put all my stuff in the cloud, but I didn't like how slow it was to move it to the TF300 when I wanted some to stay on the device. JetAudio looks good. Haven't tried much else for music.
I definitely want to get a case for it. It is SOOoooo thin and light, I'm afraid I'm going to drop it. I need a case that does equally well as portrait and as landscape because some stuff I do on the tablet seems pinned to certain screen orientation. I'm kinda diggin' the Caseen Skinny case, but I don't see it in navy blue right now.
KEYBOARD DOCK.... I'm torn as to whether or not I want one. I'm really not looking for a laptop replacement as I don't have a laptop to begin with. The extra battery power is an attractive incentive, but.... not sure I want to go this route yet. If I had wanted a netbook I would have bought a netbook. This one is a "wait and see".
OH! And I want to get an microSD card. Not sure I need a 32gig one. But may get a 32gig for the TF300 and a 16gig for my phone. Or maybe the other way around or 16gb for each of them.... *sigh* .... I think sometimes my butt gets sore from sitting on the fence for so long.
ROTTING.... not sure what I gain by rooting this tablet. I gained a LOT by rooting the Kindle Fire and flashing a new ROM on it. But if the TF300T is serving my needs then.... what would I gain by rooting it at this point?
Appreciate all the help I've gotten here for the Kindle, the Razr, and now you get to put up with me here for the TF300... heheh.
Thanks!
For me the stock Asus ROM experience just isn't good enough. The IO performance just kills things at times. The only way to get really stellar performance was to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM and kernel. Since I tried that I haven't looked back. Currently running clean ROM and unters kernel. The performance difference is very noticeable.

I got mine for christmas too
unlocked mine mostly for root looking at CM10.1 and/or an Arch or Ubuntu dual boot
I'm also torn on getting the dock
if I don't I'll get the usb adapter
what would sell me on it is if I could somehow connect other devices to its keyboard over BT
I figure the adapter's like $20 a good BT keyboard is like $30 and the battery pack is worth like $30 or $40 so the question is; is the portability of a keyboard setup with a usb port worth $10? probably. (you can find the docks on sale for $100 lots of places [bestbuy, amazon, newegg, etc]
that's assuming you want a keyboard, a usb port, and a portable charger
you could also make a poor argument for the full sd slot
I feel like if you don't have those things there is still a good argument for it in addition to basically becoming a netbook
(I actually wanted a chromebook [the arm based one] but everywhere was sold out so I got this instead)
I'm a broke teenager so I don't really have the option (yet)
and a quick google search says that using an android device as a bt keyboard works
It didn't feel as fast to me on the stock kernel. I don't think untermench has updated his kernel to work with 4.2 yet but I might be wrong about that.

I'd recommend the dock. It's really handy, and the keyboard is much easier to get used to than I thought.
Side note, I was actually gonna get the Chromebook, too. Still considering it, instead, but since I got this tab+dock for ~$400 w/ tax, the difference would be about $100 after tax...
If you haven't yet unlocked, like me, I've noticed nova launcher has considerably sped up my pad. I rooted out the box and have familiarly with recoveries and roms from my galaxy nexus but the pad is a little more delicate when it comes to that. My advice take your time and read up before doing anything
As for rooting on the stock rom, you can use titanium backup to perform full backups and root explorer to modify your build.prop file for some speed tweaks and even delete system apps. Just make sure you make backups and know what you are doing or you won't be able to get ota updates anymore. Read read and read more first

I bought the dock and glad I did. Not only does if extend the battery life, it also has a USB port and a full size sd slot. The dock also has quite a few short cuts that come in very handy. If I had to do it again knowing what I know now, I'd still spend the money for the dock. Best Buy has them on sale for around $79.

I didnt see as much benefit in rooting either but the slow performance was kind of annoying.
But then I went to try on the launchers. The performance was unacceptable!
Moved onto browser2ram and cleanrom 1.8GHz OC. I love this thing now.

[Q] Sony Smartwatch & Nexus 4

I'll probably be getting a Sony Smartwatch, it has some cool features and should save us some time. But I still don't know, haven't decided. I have some questions that once answered should clear up my mind a little bit though.
1. What's about the Smartwatch's compatibility with N4/JB 4.2? None of the Sony's smartphone has ever tasted official 4.2 and that somehow makes me worry.
2. Will the N4's battery drain quickly because of bluetooth on and connecting to the watch? I know the N4 hasn't got the best battery out there and if using it with the Smartwatch is gonna suck all the juice in several hours then the convenience's not worth the trouble of recharging multiple times a day.
I would really appreciate any help

This may or may not be any help but I currently have a Galaxy S3 on JB with a smartwatch and had no real issues, sometimes the connection between the devices drops out but not enough to be annoying.
The battery life seems almost unaffected as well, there may well be a slight decrease but not enough to warrant concern. Hope that helps.
I'm buying one today I'll report back

Nice, in Amazon Germany now cost 17€ (22$ aprox.), I think it's a good prize and I want to take advantage of that offer.
Waiting for that feedback.
I've been curious about this as well. I was just looking at the Sony smartwatches on ebay last night and you can get a pretty good deal there. After reading some reviews, the connection dropping between the watch and device seems to be pretty universal regardless of the phone you use. Could it be a cheap bluetooth adapter in the watch? I would assume that Sony doesn't have much selection of adapters to use considering how small the watch is. It's also worth noting that I was reading about a poor connection between the (proprietary) charging adapter, and that it makes a better connection with the watch removed from the strap. That could become an annoyance for some people. A minor detail, but an annoyance none-the-less.
The Pebble smartwatch looks fairly promising too, so it might be worthwhile to hold off until it's released. Just some food for thought.

Yea I just couldn't pass the deal I got up. I got it for $75 shipped brand new. The seller got it as a gift from Sony for helping them solve some issues on their phones. He's shipping it today so I'll be sure to report back.

For those wondering the Sony Smart watch paired with my N4 instantly and works flawlessly. I'm rooted and currently running Paranoid Android and Matr1x kernel.

So does this version keep connection? The original one kept getting discoed and pretty much a waste of mass lol. I have the pebble on order but because I backed the grey one, that color will most likely be last in being produced. I'll probably get it by xmas

@kpjimmy
So I can affirm that after a couple days of nonstop use my Bluetooth connection has stayed strong and not dropped once. Everything seems to work perfect and extremely snappy (instantaneous) and I'm very happy. The only thing I have found is that if u try to change the default stock weather app location its has a connection issue. From what I have read though its due to the most recent firmware update a week or so ago. But that's fixable and I'm sure Sony is well aware of the problem. Overall I'm very happy and would recommend these to anyone looking for this type of product (toy).

How did you get it to pair? I've owned the Sony Smartwatch for a while. It worked flawlessly with my Galaxy Note, but it REFUSES to see my Nexus 4. Could you provide detailed pairing instructions, please? The Sony website is useless, as they still have the very old instructions utilizing apps that do not even exist anymore. Thank you ahead of time.

it is queit simply. Turn off your smartwatch. Enable Bluetooth in your N4 and make your self visible. Turn on and hold Power button befor you will see sync icon. Than you should see a new device in N4 like smartwatch. Just pair it and that's all.
Stumbled upon this thread while browsing the forums and I have to say, I haven't even thought of getting a Smartwatch until seeing this thread. After doing 15 minutes of research, I really want to pull the trigger on one on Amazon and get it before my big vacation later this week (thank goodness for Prime). I have a few questions though.
Basically, compatibility. I see there are a few posts in this thread saying it works and everything. Anyone else have any issues? I'm using Paranoid Android and the Franco kernel, anyone have issues while using them?
This is probably a stupid question, but how exactly does it notify you? Does the watch have a vibration option or a ringtone or anything? I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't notify you, because your phone would be ringing so you would hear your phone and look at the watch.
What's the functionality of it in terms of text messages? Does it just say you have a text message and who it's from, or does it show part of the message or the whole thing? I assume it doesn't let you text back on the watch, simply because a keyboard on that small of a screen seems very hard to implement.
Oh, one last thing. How is the Sony Smartwatch vs any other smartwatch? Is the Sony one the way to go, or are there better ones that people have found?
Any other info or observations anyone else has, I would be more than happy to read them. I am seriously considering buying it right now.
