[Q] HD Games on Folio

Hi,
I'm looking for some HD games for Folio and I besides Dungeon and turbofly I couldn't get any to work. I'm specially looking for something like Dungeon Hunter, or Diablo, hack'n'slash I mean.
Do you know any HD game, beside this two, that will run on Folio?
Gameloft as incridible HD games but none works on Folio, because tegra2 texture compression is not supported.
This is a disapointment, as I expect that tegra 2 from nvidia had better game support and afterall it end up being one of must poorly supported platform in terms of games.
We no longer can say that tegra 2 is in its early days, almost 3 months have past since the launch and no support was added. Any new nvidia drivers to fix this issues with gameloft games. Any other publisher with HD games that run on folio.
I heard so much talking about how easy is to port the games from other platforms to tegra, but haven't seen any to this date? What's wrong with tegra?

Yes I try it! Is a great game indeed. One think I love in this game are the graphics, but gameplay is not as good as one could expect.
I recently found a Beta version of robot defence and I must say it's awesome. Some animations are still poor but as I said is only a early stage demo of the game.
The lack of content for tegra 2 tablets is really a pain! Good games will make this things sell like hot cookies... but I guess google and nvidia are waitting to the last moment to make content available. Too sad though

Maybe we should make a 'games' topic, with in the first post a list with all perfect working game titles for our folio's

Airattack HD lite. I get it also in my ipod touch and it's a must for those who want to kill some time! Beautiful graphics, not full 3D but quite good

Tegra 2 may result in a big fiasco if they don't launch exclusive games and apps... It's the first time I see a thing like this: launching a platform with no software, no games, nothing...
Nvidia should be more carefull. A5 from apple is on its way, samsung will have dual core soon, intel already has...

the game works, at LOGO screen press "HOME" once, and then "BACK" and menu appear..
same bug is seen on ElocityA7 , so its a nvidia bug in graphics driver for now..

Take a look at hexage games like buka hd or radiant hd. Really Nice and addictive, runs smoothly but not so kickass graphics like 3d or explosions.....

Yes they are quite fine, not my kind of game though. If you have a Tegra 2 and 512 Megabytes of RAM, you will expect better. I could show this guys the kind of game that I had in my old Intel Pentium 1,3 Ghz, with no GPU by the way. So much power for nothing. A4 from Apple will not even stand against Tegra 2, but if you see the graphics...

I saw backbreaker running on a folio 100 on youtube, but when I run it (1.3d, now clean 1.4), the geraphics are pretty messed up?

Absolutly great... a real tablet game...a lot of great details in graphics, you can move control if you want etc.. . A must try!

Yes it is a most buy in every way. I love the sound and the graphics. Gameplay is great. Story line is very good.

Ok, market website fault.. seems the game is actually Tegra2 only!
poor support from Google's website, only showing non-tegra2 devices, when its actually tegra2 ONLY!
you need this View attachment build.zip (download attachment) to actually find it on the market, and buy/install it.
copy the build.prop (inside zip) to your /system folder and reboot.
and you find it.

Why does the recently released games looks like Amiga500 from 1990?
Samurai II and Monster madness has cartoon like graphics which pretty much were fashion back in 90s when its was too hard to do better graphics and the no GPU were not capable of handling it.
is Tegra2 not better than a 90's cpu?
or should 3d games seen on other mobiles just wait, until Nvidia fixes the OpenGL ES issues, so its better supported, because its not just a port issue, its also the work tegra2 GL seems to be designed since games are still "2D"..

You are right! Some of this games are 2d only... But they are good enough to be played again and again, because they are fun. Most iPad and iPhone are just 2d because the game engine is more simple and the dev time is faster

Hello folks
Some high res games in the nexus does have frame drips or even lags
Such as Modern Combat 4
Or GTA maxed out
So do u think its a software or hardware problem...
To start off, I personally think that the high res screen that the nexus 10 has has a large impact on its performance

Its not the high res screen dude. Its the kernel. If its the high res screen the game wouldn't run smoothly for 15 secs then lag for 5 seconds.

In some cases it maybe but check the video in youtube of modern combat 4, overall it just stutters
But for GTA ur right maybe its kernel problem

Glad someone brought this up. Mine lags in vice city at 80 PC resolution. N.o.v.a. 3 seems to be fine but stutters at times. I tried every benchmarking software out there and they all returned normal scores for the nexus 10. So I really don't know where the problem lies?

Mine starts to lag when the back of the unit gets too warm. Hoping the devs can fix it via kernel or custom rom. But so far though this is the best android tablet for gaming thus far. Gonna have to see though whats going to be released by others at CES next month. I may just return and hopefully they come out with tablets with quadcore exynos and slightly better gpu.

Maybe exynos 5 quad also uses t604 just like exynos 4 dual and quad but maybe higher freq....

The MC4 N10 YouTube videos that I've seen are running the leaked MC4. The leaked version had Galaxy S3 specific settings (Edit: I'm wrong about this). The version that you can currently purchase on the N10 is way smoother than the leak. Unfortunately, I uninstalled the copy of MC4, but I suspect that if you open up the android manifest, you'd see different settings. The leak ran at native resolution (Edit: not positive about this). Based on the limited time I played on the N10, I think the production version on the N10 is running at 1/2 resolution, possibly with lower quality textures. It still looks and plays great, but the movement felt a bit "slushy" compared to the iPad version. I highly reccomend the game. The only reason I uninstalled is because I had 40 hours of multiplayer gameplay on the iOS version and was ranked around 300 with nearly all of the weapons purchased. Unfortunately when I log in on the N10 with the same Gameloft Live account, none of the multiplayer progress is carried over. It seems the Android players are on different servers, though I can confirm that WIFI/local multiplayer games are cross platform.
Edit: I'm completely wrong about the AndroidManifest.xml. Both specify xperia play optimized content and the same OpenGL ES version. I'm not sure where the changes are but, the production version plays pretty smooth. If you look at AndroidManifest files for other games, like Shadowgun Deadzone, you can see specifications for texture compression and things like that, but I don't see anything like that for MC4. Sorry for the mistake.

The Exynos 5 quad is supposed to first be paired with the Mali-T658 GPU, which is similar to ours but with twice as many cores and a few other better things. It also isnt supposed to be out for another couple quarters.

Gameloft on Nook hd/+

Anyone tried Gamelofts big games ex nova 3 mc4 amazing spider man and games like real racing 3 nfs most wanted gta 3 vice city, do these games have smooth with the full graphics like on ios devices, since it does have powervr sgx 544? Would it be wise to buy this tablet solely for gaming? I know there is N7 but i heard/seen lots of gamelofts top games perform poorly on it due to optimization.

Most Gameloft games I have (have a number of them and I haven't tried installing them all, so going with 'most') give me the 'Device not compatible' error - both stock and cm. Also, Gameloft really pisses me off because they remove back-catalog games to force you to purchase the newer versions (like Asphalt 5, original Modern Combat & Dungeon Hunter, etc in case you have those).
GTA games run great. Haven't ever tried IOS, but they run full quality and 60fps smooth w/ the nook. Same w/ EA games, all work fine.

I have tried Nova 3, MW3, both GTAs, NFSMW and NBA 2013 and all play fairly smooth.
Asphalt 7 though plays, but not smooth. Seems a lazy port since NFSMW and the other "busy" games play smooth.

All I notice is the game is not smooth like my other device or the iPad 4. All graphics seem in tact, but uninstalled. If it was missing stuff, it would have been even less smooth with it.

Just so you know I tried order and chaos hoping it would look great, bit they have gimped the effects and draw distance and it looks rubbish...

Does GTA vice city play good on stock non rooted?

Tried asphalt 7, unplayable, Spiderman looks terrible, tdkr low fps but semi playable...nooks not the greatest for games from gamecrap ...awesome screen for 1080p anime though =)

Anybody try and playing with the build.prop so Gameloft's games install, and installing Chainfire3D to make them work?
Used to do this on my old Allwinner A10 tablet, and it worked for some games, but its been awhile.

GPU on Nook HD+ vs iPad 3

I couldn't find any details on gpu on nook HD+ but the model no powervr sgx544. Any ideas if its a single/dual core. How does it stand against iPad 3.

Personally I think it's impossible to compare the gpu's between the iPad and the Nook HD+. To many other variables tie into the performance of the gpu. The Nook HD+ is fun to play around with and Android keeps getting smoother and more fluid with each release. However, the iPad hardware is perfectly in tune with the OS and you don't have to install another ROM on it to improve the performance. The iPad never stutters, lags or freezes. Of course I would expect that from an iPad as it costs 3 times the price of a Nook HD+.

There is no comparison. I used the iPad 3 for seven months. It plays games smooth as butter and ui smooth and has an even higher res display than the HD+. The gpu in the iPad 3 was specifically designed for high res displays. Anandtech had a big write up about the gpu last year and compared to Tegra 3, 4470 and Snap dual. The gpu performed 3X that of the 4470 that is in the Nook. It was at least 2X all in the comparison.

Sounds about right, 3X the performance for 3X the price, right? As has been posted as well, the ipad and its OS were designed for each other, they should be as smooth as silk working together. Then also consider the Nook HD/HD+ were really to be readers first and full fledged tablets never, or at least as an after thought.
It's like taking a Dell or HP laptop and trying to compare it to an Mac Book Pro, @ 3X the price, it shouldn't give the same experience and if it does, Apple screwed up.
I'd say dollar for dollar the Nooks are still a better value, unless you want/need/crave their app eco system.

I agree from a weighted value standpoint. Point is though as far as gpu, there is no comparison in performance.

While it can't be compared to iPad 3 I personally think HD+ GPU fares pretty well in gaming, much better than my Nexus 7.

I find the Nook works better with emulators, but any Android 3D heavy games suffer compared to my Excite 7.7 and TF300. Games like Asphalt 7, GTA, NOVA 3, MC3, etc all play smoother on those Tegra 3 devices for me. Asphalt 7 is the biggest standout. Not smooth on the Nook HD+, but smooth on the other tablets I have. Thing is, I use the Nook HD+ mainly for comics, emulators, web, Flash and Android lighter gaming. The 4470 is fine for those things.
The great display is the draw for me Just as good as my iPad 4.

I think PPSSPP will run almost all games at full speed. But running dolphin at full speed will be much, much harder to achieve. Hopefully we will see at least 50% gain in fps compared to the shield tablet.

Not really interested in emus since I have a Wii U for that but I expect the N9 to run anything you throw at it

I have PPSSPP running Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together and Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions running fine on a FireTV and Galaxy Tab 2 tablet fine. I'm also playing around with a few Japanese visual novel imports. PPSSPP should not have any issues on the N9.

You need to remember that this tablet is rocking a QXGA (2048x1536) screen so it will be more heavy to play on it

That won't tax it harder on Dolphin per se, since it won't be rendering at that, i wouldn't expect it to run well except on 1xIR (the Dolphin native resolution).
The Nexus 9 certainly won't be able to manage "anything you can throw at it" though, since even the most high spec PC can't do that right now and maintain full speed on certain games in Dolphin. My i7 4790K with water cooking and overclock and GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 can't, and that's much more powerful than the K1.

Dolphin is the Gamecube emulator, but never going to playable on the Nexus 7.

So far the Nvidia Shield Tablet, by far, runs it the best and the expectation is that the K1 Denver should be a good step up from there as it nearly doubles CPU performance, which the emulator is more dependant on. I would expect many games to still run slow, but a good deal more titles should be playable (more easily emualted games like Timesplitters 2, which runs at about 40-45fps on my Shield tablet and might be fully playable on the Nexus 9).

OOOOoooooohhhhh sorry, my bad, I'm used to people on here knowing everything hahaha sorry

Dolphin only uses 2 cores, that means that dolphin is not taking advantage of the full power the shield tablet has. Nexus 9 is running a dual core k1, and the single core performance is up to 100% faster than the quad core k1. This should give us a big speed improvment in dolphin

I'm currently running DraStic on my Samsung Tab S 8.4, and it works PERFECTLY. Soooo smooth, best DS/3DS emulator out there. Looking forward to using it on the Nexus 9, with what the wider screen.
(PS. Got the emulator for Pokemon . you're never too old for that game )

You're right mate. Most of the games I play are older Pokemon games, from when I was a child or hacks based on those games.
Not sure if I find the huge screen preferable for GBC and GBA emulating, but I'm really looking forward to pushing that soc to the max
