Hello,
I am somewhat new here -- new to posting, more so than the forum in general.
I have recently bought myself a Galaxy S4, not too long ago. Anyway, I would like to simply root my S4. But all of the methods that I had come across, well, none of them worked with my phone. I had even tried the CF-Auto-Root method, but to no avail did that work.
The issue that I seem to be having is, when I run the CW package, or even the .tar file needed to root the phone, through Odin -- Odin fails to complete. I had gotten an error, at some point, about having no PIT partition on my phone - that it needs to be partitioned, or the such.
My phone is currently the MDL version of the S4. I am not too familiar with the differences, or the purpose of that or MDC.
I am on 4.2.2, original firmware. Unrooted.
If anyone could help me with rooting my phone, I will be glad to give you all the necessary information needed to help me through this - it would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Doesnt sound right.in my (about device in settings it say I257MVLUAMK5. CONFUSSING
thanks steve
There's no 4.3 OTA update for S4 Mini that I'm aware of...
I also had trouble rooting the first time. Thing you have to be sure is you're following each and every step to the t. Now that you've "unsuccessfully" rooted, I'd suggest flashing the stock rom again and then try again following the root instructions like I said.
Hello people, before I begin I'd like to say I'm a fool so forgive me if I have trouble answering any questions that may seem trivial to you phone guys.
Anyway, a while back I rooted my device through some neat website with a lambda symbol, and was enjoying the pleasantries of root access. Well one day I turn on my phone and am greeted with "System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone". I would prefer to just revert back to stock and not bother with rooting again.
As a side note, I was on kitkat 4.4.2
Now, from my preliminary research I've gathered I'll need some samsung usb drivers, Odin, and the stock rom for my device (at&t sgh-i337).
From what I can tell, I downloaded/installed the correct drivers
I downloaded Odin v3.07
The stock rom I am downloading is "I337UCUAMDL_I337ATTAMDL_ATT.zip" I am also downloading "I337UCUFNB1_Rootable_Full_Odin.rar".
Is this all I will need?
While the roms were downloading, I tried to connect my phone to Odin (in download mode, running Odin as admin) yet I didn't see anything like COM:6. Would this mean a mistake in the drivers I downloaded?
I'm a noobie at all of this, so before I mess my phone up even more, does this sound correct? I'll try to answer any questions people have. I hope I haven't somehow doomed this phone
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
I never used odin so can't help on specifics. But, I think you need the NB1 tar. You can't Odin back MDL at all--don't try it--
I believe process is, if wanted, would be Odin the NB1 tar, update to NC1, root with towelroot, then use SafeStrap 3.09 I believe.
You can find all that on several SafeStrap threads in General and Q&A and a thread in General Titled "All things MK2 etc--
Do some reading up before proceeding--:good:
What is your exact build, for future reference don't use anything outside of XDA until you are very experienced.
Someone will help on Odin steps--:good:
Hello all, obviously I have done something catastrophically wrong, (and may the almighty smite thyself down for such ignorance) but I am hopeful there is a kind soul that will bestow his knowledge upon thee. I am aware of the several ways to approach getting help on the internet and I am going to just come out and say; I am no programmer, I ****ed up the process somewhere, thank you if you can assist me in anyway. So here it is, I followed "The All Things Guide" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53758227, and was on the way to flash the "Foxhound" ROM found here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53758227 (version incompatibility?). I was in recovery mode, flashed the ROM, Flashed the modules, and then the SuperSU, I then rebooted it, and- nothing, gave it ten minutes, still nothing. So (bad idea get ready) I removed the battery and booted to recovery mode, from there I noticed I could not restore the backup I had made, "E:Unable to mount '/system'", this is where I am at. I am following a few guides as of now in order to remedy this problem, if anyone has any advice, or guides (I know how you guys love those), I would be extremely appreciative, I understand this could take 5 minutes of your time, but due to my lack of knowledge in this area its going to take me hours, please save me that hell. Thank you!!
It's probably best to Odin the nb1 tar file at this point and start over.

Is safestrap still working? Did you validate the md5 hash was correct on foxhound? Odin is probably your safest or quickest to get up and running.
Alright, thank you gents, I will do that, and yes safestrap is still working.
EDIT: Is there any specifics for what i'm doing? Im seeing guides for going from mk2 to nb1, is that the same as going from nc1 to nb1?
Thank you fine gentlemen, this process fixed it, on to my next ill thought-out endeavor.
Hey there, folks. I'm a noob that managed to get himself into a bind (imagine that). I bought the SGH-i437 from Cricket.
I successfully rooted the phone and attempted several varieties of backups - each of dubious utility since I had no idea what I was doing. I can't use them now, for reasons unclear to me, but certainly due to user error. Not knowing this, and continuing on a foolish trajectory, I went on and flashed CM11-20140829NIGHTLY. It's been working very, very well.
I would have been trouble free, in the clear and happy, but I moved to London and had to change my Cricket service to a local carrier. To do that, I have to unlock the SIM (or rather, network unlock). I have an unlock code. When I go to unlock it, it doesn't work because in CM11 you can't access the debugging screen from the dial pad (those were the instructions sent to me). The kind people helping me unlock my phone suggested I flash back to stock ROM. Then, they tell me, I can follow the instructions. This is where my story stops.
I have a macbook, so I'm using JODIN, and I've installed heimdall on my macbook. I connect, I put the .tar file that I found on the internets into PDA and click start. J ODIN says it needs to find me a PIT file, and it tries but doesn't manage to find one. http: / / pastebin . com / 5DpJjyk8 - Hopefully that will link to the incredible string of code and whatnot generated by JODIN. I put in spaces because XDA won't let me post URLs.
I'm not sure what I need to do, now. Am I supposed to be out there looking for a mysterious PIT file, or doing something different with JODIN? I eagerly await returning to the crappy stock ROM, unlocking the SIM, then returning to the sweet blissful CM11. Please, please can you help me?
SGH-i437
CM11 - JB 4.4.4
(original stock was JB 4.1.2)
Still confusing...
When searching for ".pit file for SGH-i437" I found a thread where a guy with an S4 flashed S3 stuff and was having problems. People directed him to KIES, which I've been trying. Only problem is that Kies doesn't recognize my phone with CM11. So I'm still out to dry, here, with a functioning phone locked to a US carrier. BOOOOO!!!!!! I'm about ready to gravity test this phone over a London high street.
days of research - nothing
I can't find any other discussion of people having a similar problem with ODIN/JODIN! I can't flash my stock ROM because JODIN can't find the PIT file. I'm genuinely troubled by this - please help if you have any notion of what to do!!!
Hi!
History: So I was messing around with a One Touch Root app and it didn't take. I got a security notification to reboot which put it into bootloop. Did a data wipe/factory reset and same thing... bootloop.
I dont think there's a way to fix this problem without a computer. All I have to work with is a Chromebook and an old iMac from 2010. I downloaded JOdin3 to try and flash the stock firmware (for 5.0.2) which I was able to obtain here. Now when JOdin asks for the PIT file it or says it's going to obtain it for me the process fails. So that's currently where I am stuck.
I'm also wondering if it's easier to just flash a custom ROM instead of stock firmware or does it not make a difference?
Primarily, I would just like to get this thing out of soft-brick mode. If there's a way to salvage the data somehow that'll be icing on the cake (although I doubt it, since I performed a data wipe already).
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I'm looking for the same thing :/
Lemme know if you find anything. I'm literally in the exact same situation as you, and no one on the site wants to help us
