Need UK update in USA without root - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all I am newb, I just came over from IOS in the last 30 days. I have a few questions to the new system. First I want the new update where you can save apps to memory card(I saw it on you tube) The guy was also saying that there is way to do it with out rooting. The reason I can not root is I got the protection plan at best buy and don't want to F that up.
Another question is,is there a way to play the my music threw my usb to my pioneer head unit. I keep getting the incompatible usb. I have a galaxy s4 threw at&t. Thanks all.

No one can help me?

Firstly, you can't flash official UK firmware on your phone. Uk is i9505 and you have i337.
Secondly, don't worry about app to SD. It only moves APK files so is pointless, the large data files stay on internal storage.
Thirdly, even if you root you can always go back to stock for warranty purposes. (I've done it many times)
And last but not least, and probably the most important....USE SEARCH BUTTON OR GOOGLE!
Have a nice day

Thanks. I new someone would throw in the Google comment. Thanks again I am so new to android that I had no clue. This sucks that I can't throw spots on sd card due to the device only having 9 gigs of free space left. Does any one have a solution for sound via the usb on my pioneer had unit. I know I can use blue tooth but it sounded so much better when I hard wired my iphone to the unit.

Internal SD failure partially solved ... help!!!

Hey fellas I have had my galaxy tab sitting here collecting dust since about late may early June.
The issue was the apparently the internal SD was damaged on my Sprint tab when I put ics on it. It would just hang at the Samsung Splash screen.
now I went on Craigslist and got a local person who is much more versed on technical issues than I am .
I think he re-partitioned the external SD card to work as if it was the internal SD. He was able to load a stock Sprint rom on it got it to pass the Samsung boot screen. But now its back on Android 2.2 but its stuck at the setup screen! Nothing but force close messages . I'm not even able to select language.
What could be the next step? I feel like a major hurdle was overcome. But now another road block
Help please?

Yes, the internal memory of this devices (specially Sprint's version) has a tendency to go bad somehow, I was very desperate and decided to actually remove it and use my external SD, if you want to see how it was done go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877585

Can I increase storage of my Nexus 7 tablet?

Hi XDA'ians
I recently got my nexus 7 8GB (couldn't get the 16 GB since price diff was high in here) . Anyways I seem to feel like nexus 7 has less space, 6 GB for user usage. Currently I got only 800 MB free .
My question is there any way to increase storage of nexus 7 tabs?
You're a big boy im sure you figure out the answer to that or maybe just use search.

Search for info about USB-OTG and use that with something like a USB flash drive.
Thanks shook187, well little search made me realize that I can use OTG cable and pendrive . though android will detect the pen drive and map it where?
I'm fairly new to android and nexus 7 , so please easy on me guyz. Thanks
The device uses something like 2gb for system files and stuff like that, so effectively you would have about 6gb of storage.

You will need to unlock and root your device, which you want to do anyway if you haven't already done it, and then you can use the OTG adapter and a USB flash memory drive or external hard drive, with the help of a near little app called "Stickmount"
Don't worry, you're in the right place to ask questions and many of us remember what it was like to be new to Android.
Once you get it setup, you will use an app like root explorer, and browse to the sdcard/usbStorage/xxxx directory and it will be just like opening a folder or mapped drive on your computer.
Feel free to send me a private message if you would like and I'll help you out, and we can also chat on gtalk in real time. I help a lot of people get started that are new to Android, and I remember how overwhelming it can be.
You can purchase "Nexus Media Importer" in the play store for $1.99, it's like stick mount but does not require root. I currently use it and I love it!

[Q] New to Android/S3. Bought Unlocked S3 and have a few questions about Cyanogenmod

Hi All,
Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask these questions. Please let me know if I should move the thread.
Backstory: I bought an unlocked S3 off of craigslist last weekend. I bought a SIM card adapter so my nano-sim from my iPhone 5 will work in the S3. I really love the phone, minus a few issues. I can't get LTE to work, and the battery seems to be pretty bad as it's constantly searching and dropping my 3g cell signal.
It's running Android 4.2.2 via Cyanogenmod. All I know is that this is not the standard Touchwiz OS that ships with the S3 from samsung, and is a variant of the standard 4.2.2 OS from Google.
Questions:
1. Is my lack of LTE due to the OS? Someone recommended to me that I should put the phone back to the stock Touchwiz OS (via Mobile Odin), which would enable the LTE. Think that's the case? Or is this an issue with my Nano SIM and AT&T account?
2. Using this Cyanogen 4.2.2, I don't get any onscreen notifications when I get a text, email or calendar alert. My friends with stock S3's and Notes all get these types of notifications. Am I missing something with Cyanogen 4.2.2 or should I try to go back to Touchwiz?
3. If I were to go back to touchwiz, I was told I could just download it onto my S3 sim card and install/load it via Mobile Odin. Is this the case? This is my first time working with Android phones, so it's all greek to me for now. If I switch to stock Touchwiz, will I lose all of my aps and configurations and have to re-set it up? What other cool things would I be losing?
I really do love this phone and would love to stick with it over my iPhone 5. The lack of LTE, good battery life (probably can be improved with tweaks) and onscreen notifications are making it tough for me to make this my daily driver.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

Whoops sorry about that. I even typed S4 in my title before going back and editing it. I think I was a bit confuzzled!. I'll move it over, thanks!

anyone still using the g1/dream.

If so what are you using it for? Phone or other. Need ideas not going to throw it out due to its beautiful history.

I'm afraid I'm also not using mine for anything, sitting a draw, but like you I'm definitely gonna keep onto it.
Alarm clock? You could get a 1.0 ROM or something and delete almost everything but the clock (and probably need a launcher for it).
Doorstop? It's pretty tough and chunky, and the chin might help.
A remote/Bluetooth keyboard for some other device, e.g. tablet. Idk how this would work, I've looked into it before but can't find answers.
Def sounds like a good idea for a remote. Maybe for you tube app on my TV or something other. Maybe give it to my daughter and tell her to have a ball.
Funny, I just found one of these phones at a garage sale today..... Perhaps some resource-unintensive Linux distro could be ported to it and it could be used as a small Linux box.
Still using mine as a WiFi hotspot. Since I have a free data only SIM with a volume monthly quota of 30GB
I'm using mine as a sacrificial phone when I'm kayaking. It's perfectly capable of calls, SMS, and MP3s still. The touchscreen works through a transparent drybag. I can be confident that if I should wind up in the water and the drybag should fail, it's no great loss.
Mine is with my 2 year old daughter. She play games on it ,really there is no other use.

I was going to use it as a GPS and/or Speedometer, with no sim in it (on my motorcycle), but first i need to instal a power port! as the battery life sucks once i turn on gps....or the screen!

I want to use my G1 as a screen keyboard and mouse for my raspberry pi. It would be great if I could make it usb plug and play so I could just plug it into any pi and be off.
I'm using my old mytouch 4g as an IP camera. The g1's camera isn't as good but that's another idea.

Mine is sitting in a backpack full of electronics. The camera is broken, though. It doesn't matter; It's running a ICS ROM which doesn't have camera working, anyways.
I lend it to my friend, he still uses it as a primary device !!! he was never interested in smartphones, so he is very satisfied with that phone
I Love G1
Mine, I'm still using it as my primary phone, I really love it.
I just picked up a package deal consisting of an HTC Radar 4G, a MyTouch 3G and this G1.
I have unlocked all of them (using a Lycamobile Sim). Unless I really fall for the Radar, I will probably sell it (worth more than what I paid for all 3) and keep the Dream alive :good:.
But first, need to get it up to Froyo. It will do what I need. It's the model T of Androids.
The MyTouch had a bad sim card holder, so I needed to do some solder work and hack the holder so that the card just falls in from the outside rather than slides in. The back holds it fine, but it probably not very salable (though the outside is in perfect shape)
Update-
Got the G1 rooted and running on Cyanogenmod 6. It was a struggle to find coherent , relevant, current (not really current, but currently working) info on how to work this ancient piece. It has given me a taste for it , anyway and I hope to try another ROM.
Frankly, I am just rambling to get my post count to 10 so I can ask a question in the modding forum....
It was sitting in a laundry hamper that I was using to store a bunch of old CDs and other stuff I don't use on a daily basis. It so happens that the hamper fell from the top of my bedroom closet and now I'm thinking of ways to use this thing, but the first thing that came to mind was to use it as a distraction for the kids. Now that I think about it, it could be used as a remote with keyboard and all. It's running CM6, but I'd like to know if there is a ROM that is very minimal. My phone has no ability to make calls anyway, but everything else works. Any ideas?

[Q] Kid friendly rom? no phone or text

Hello everyone,
I've looked through tons of threads on this and can't find exactly what I'm looking for. I've had a family member drop off a t-mobile mytouch 4g to me and asked me to take out the phone and text capabilities for her kid. She explained that she wanted it to be more how an iPod touch is to an iPhone if that makes sense. I'm wondering if there is a rom that easily accomplishes this as all the threads I've read say do not remove those apks. My niece is three and will be using this for sesame street style games (counting, letter recognition, etc).
Tried the kidzone mode and it was beyond useless, airplane mode is already on and the sim card removed.
Currently this is running 2.3.4 android and 2.1 sense.
Let me know if you have any ideas and thank you in advance,
Drew
I don't think you're going to find that. What's she worried about if there's no SIM card? It's probably better for the kid to just have the dialer and sms vs. having root access. I did the same thing for my three yr old and haven't had an issue yet.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Without a sim card phone and SMS won't work anyway... So nothing to be concerned with. If you are really that concerned with it you could do a root take out what you want then unroot.
The threads that say do not remove those apk's assume you actually want to use the phone as a working phone, not a media device basically.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
If you want, I could take Cyanogen7 and unroot it, then let you flash it.... also if you want, ill take out things like titanium or anything else.
