as i believe the short answer is NO
unless in one case, using CM7.
Just install a different launcher. Most of the apps they modified are actually pretty nice in their TouchWiz versions, otherwise wait for an AOSP ROM. There are always solutions to problems.
This is why we have XDA. Someone will bake a vanilla ROM.
The concept of giving us vanilla Android without crapware is actually one that eludes practically every Android phone manufacturer, not just Samsung.

Yeah, it's kind of annoying in a way, but in a way it's the spirit of Android. Android is open and allows anyone to modify it how they choose. The manufacturers use it as a way to brand the devices in their own way, but it is kind of annoying when their UIs are bloated and slow. Now that we are moving to dual core with more memory, the speed will be less of an issue regardless of the launcher you use, so it will make it better at least. I've never found TouchWiz to be overly offensive, but it certainly isn't the fastest.
I want touchwiz enhancements, are you kidding! Nicer dialer, nice MMS, nice little brightness adjustment shortcut, nicer camera. A gingerbread launcher will help get the phone to look like you want it to, and obviously, custom ROMs will make it feel like gingerbread AOSP.

That's my opinion. A lot of the TW apps are nice, I just don't like the launcher, so a simple install of LauncherPro and we're ready to go!
A TouchWiz ROM that functions properly beats the snot out of CM any day.

They need to give users the option to disable Crapwiz completely or better yet, ship it stock. Put Crapwiz on the Marketplace alongside ADW and LauncherPro and let people install their crap if they want to. Not force it on people.

I'm pretty sure the TouchWiz launcher doesn't run if you set another launcher as default. I haven't even had a ROM with TouchWiz in it for so long that I can't say for sure though.
The touchwiz launcher will run unless you root and delete it from system/app. All the other touchwiz enhancements will still work and honestly are the best part of touchwiz. The launcher is the only part I don't like, and only because it is known to be laggy/battery hog.

how can so many of you not like touchwiz, lemme correct that *HATE touchwiz... i realize its the hip thing to do, to hate touchwiz, and you somehow think it makes you look pro.. but touchwiz rocks.. most of you havent even seen what the alternative is, you just hate it cause everyone else does.

You forgot all the built in format support for multimedia files.
On older devices the phone was much slower when using samsung roms (tw) than AOSP. I i think that's the main reason why some people HATE touchwiz.
Right now AOSP roms like cm7 are still faster than Samsung roms, but that doesn't means that Samsung roms are bad!
Touchwiz has some goodies were it still bet AOSP, so at the end is a matter of personal taste.
Enviado desde mi GT-I9100 usando Tapatalk
I personally like the TouchWiz UI on Gingerbread. It's an update over AOSP/CM7 Roms.
However, seeing that KP4 video, i find that TouchWiz 4 is a downgrade for ICS. Many of the features that TW4 had over Gingerbread were implemented in ICS.
So for me AOSP is the way to go for ICS.
hell yeah .!! i love touch wiz
I have nothing against TW, there are many parts of it that I actually like, but ICS seems to be a big step forward for Android and TW (at least the ALPHA/BETA iteration does not seem that much of a step forward).
Granted, I am actually not really sure what I expected of TW and ICS, but I guess I was expecting to see more of ICS (Roboto, the Blueish Hue for the Signal Meter/etc.) and maybe over time my expectations will rationalize and I will see TW as my mode for interaction with Android and ICS.
Dan
I just find it clunky. I always install LauncherPro immediatly after a reflash. Much easier to fit stuff on my home screen.
Others run better on my phone. That simple. No hate.

Well...in ICS taskmanager will be replaced from standard one.
I like ics but it has some missing feature
1)Sorter icon on app drawer (only using appZorter)
2)Custom icon of status bar (thanks Jkay)
3)HORRIBLE!!!! Green battery. Add a % better battery.
i think tw is good. the features are just amazing. this is my first time to use a samsung android phone (former lg user) and i find tw really functional compared to my past phone's ui. i just don't like the look... there's a lot of launchers out there anyway. and about aosp, i just think it's too plain for casual users, like... me... hehehe!

Having a stock rom I can get almost everything that TW provides by installing 3rd party apps; on the other hand, on a stock TW rom, I'm stuck with no video calling in GTalk, no green icon indicating Google service status, only 6 recent apps and a bunch of Samsung bloatwares.
Touchwiz is ugly..
iphoney SMS
launcher icons
Pull down toggle icons
Music player
Touchwiz would be the best launcher if it had the following
1.multi dpi scaling.
2.proper resize support.

I like touchwiz. Its the only UI where the launcher runs perfectly smooth even using a heavy live wallpaper. I believe that they use the cartoony colors to show off the Super Amoled screen as well. The only thing that will make me flash a non touchwiz ROM is Stock ICS, cuz im not using the visually unpolished abomination that AOSP Gingerbread is. MIUI is sorta buggy for us so its out imo

I know most of us hate touchwiz but there are a couple of things samsung's done better than Google, what do you like more in touchwiz than stock ics?
1. The quick notification toggles, I know ics has a quick access to settings in the notifications but its not quite the same
2. I like more the way you place widgets in touchwiz launcher, it resembles honeycomb, I dont know why Google got rid of it in ics
3. You have spell corrections for more than one language at the same time without having to switch keyboards
That's pretty much it, touchwiz icons, colors, dialer, contacts are pretty much... horrible
In my experience Touchwiz on my GS2 is faster and smoother than stock ICS on the Galaxy Nexus. Add a live wallpaper and its no competition, Nexus chokes and dies.
Touchwiz is pretty underrated tbh.

How did you come to the conclusion "most of us hate touchwiz" is it because someone started a thread on here,i would estimate many more like TW than hate it, i think TW is brilliant, ive tried every other launcher and always come back to TW as it is smoother than any of the rest of them
I would never buy a phone that I couldn't get to vanilla android the skins are ridiculous. I'm on a galaxy nexus using nova (installed through cwm for the extra features) and find the experience to be my favorite so far on android without having to rom my phone. Its snappy and clean. You like touchwiz more power to you but skins always feel to me like what they are: window dressing on the experience I want.

I'll be gutted if Samsung ditch TW for the Galaxy S3 but i doubt they will they will just add some improvements and modifications, etc i have the TW 4G launcher with 5 docks on homescreen and it is fast and very smooth.
What Google try to do with ICS AOSP Launcher is to mimic TouchWiz features that we already had. (In the end, ICS launcher also was work cooperated with Samsung developers)
Seriously, people should get "another" Android 2.3 and see what TouchWiz bring... Even HTC sense feels really stoneage next to features of TouchWiz we don't realise until we loose them.
I love the responsiveness and the overall appearance, but there is a lot of wasted space and opportunity with TW.
Well...TW Launcher is purely Underated....if TW launcher can be modified a bit, it could be defenitely useful..i am using sensation ROM 2.0....TW launcher looks awsm in that!!
****wiz is not bad either..i only recently made the leap to Go Launcher and loving that to be honest..But still Touchwiz is pretty smooth, has good options and a good launcher all round....
Touchwiz 4.0 is the best launcher compared to motorola UI and sense 3.0 in my opinion. its not as heavy as sense and its a lot smoother than the motorola UI plus it has great features, its easy to use and works great. I love what they did when you long press the home screen to add widgets and wallpapers, i think it work really well. Sure sense is more eye candy but it eats every ressources that the phone has. So based on usability, smoothness and performance i think touchwiz 4.0 is king. If only htc would do a better job at optimizing it would probably number one. I do like stock ICS skin also, but again it isnt as smooth and well optimized as touchwiz is on the S2.

There is only one thing that annoys me with touchwiz and that is you cant sort your apps alphabetically. Thank goodness there is an app called appzorter, pity its not working for ics yet. Well it wasnt the last time i looked al least.

Touchwizz is NOT only the launcher.. It's the whole samsung UI elements and features (smart dial, quick toggles, media codecs, etc etc).
The problem with touchwizz is the style, general UI. Take for example the dialer: very ugly. Or the big toggle icons in notification area (they can remove text and make smaller buttons). And the general UI experience is simply poor (compare section headers and subsection headers from TW with ICS, buttons, sliders, lists and so on).
What I want? TW with ICS flavour.
Eg: ICS dialer with smart dial, ICS contacs, ICS messeging, ICS launcher with fast page switching, media codecs, general UI elements from ICS (headers, buttons, sliders, list, etc), etc.
By switching the launchers doesn't solve the problem with touchwizz as many users write here as a solution to "get ride of TW".
Touchwizz is deeply integrated in Android framework and apps.
IMHO Touchwiz is very cool for peoples who don't want many extra settings or customisations. He's also very colorfull and simple to use.
After that, I must say that ICS stock launcher seems little "cold" in the other side. I mean, it's all Blue and White and the default ICS wallpaper are little too "cold" too, but it's surely the "ICS" touch.
The tastes and colours are in the nature, in term of performances TW is not so bad, it's just miss a little more features like customisation, etc...
If samsung removed their swipe grid-icons in the application drawer, then more people would love touchwiz.
... Im sure this is the reason why some people don't like it.
I like touchwiz, but I must admit - I'd love it to have a vertical application drawer with 3D roller effect as default.

I really am hoping that I will like the new version of Touchwiz! If I can change the icons in the dock and on the homescreens as well as the size of the grid on the homescreen, then I see myself using it on my phone. If I can't do both of those things, then I'm using Apex.
I don't want to stare at the default dock icons all day long, they are way too cartoony and colorful for me. But yeah, if I can change ALL the icons in Touchwiz, slap a nice and dark wallpaper on there and get some Metrostation/Minimal Text goodness going... I would LOVE to use Touchwiz, because I always try to install as few third-party apps and stuff on my phones. I'm just afraid that it won't allow me the level of customization that I want. Lucky for me Android is about options, so I can have an alternative launcher on my phone within 2 minutes if I want.
So for me it's not about trying to be cool and hip. Those things come naturally to me.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think ditching Touchwiz will affect like half of the things on your little list there?
EDIT: Task manager, swiping left/right in contacts, drop down toggles, camera UI, swype, brightness control, popup play and certainly Divx, Xvid, and .avi support... I don't see those being controlled by what launcher you use? I could be wrong though
Most of that stuff isnt anything to do with TW at all. Most of it is in stand alone apps that will work whether you use TW as a launcher or not. I will be using Apex launcher and i will still have all the Samsung extras.
AOSP, Cyanogen and AOKP ROMS are over rated, most are slower than custom ROMs based on Samsung stock, they have missing or broken features and are often unstable. I dont see the point in getting a phone like the S3 and putting inferior software on it, why not just buy a Nexus to start with? The best ROMs are custom ROMs based on stock, optimised and free of the truly useless bloat.

The codec support is definatly the best and I love the small things they added like the customizable battery percentage, extended toggles in the pulldown, newsticker on the lockscreen, shortcuts on the lockscreen etc.. it seems like they let you customize alot and I think you can really tell they hired someone from the CM team.
The new touchwiz also looks pretty good, I really like that they use 5 icons now. The appdrawer looks great and the plain black pulldown also looks nice. I think it looks very grown up now and even though it's using popping colours I don't find it too tacky or cartoonish like many others. I can't stand the "buhuhuhu they ruined the beauty of stock ICS buhhuhuhuhu" comments anymore it might not be "eyecandy" like sense which btw. I find extremly ugly but it is super smooth, compareable with iOS, it's minimalistic and not too overloaded.
The browser in gingerbread was crushing pretty much everything. It kinda sucks on ICS ATM, but seeing some videos it seems like it's fixed on the S3. Chrome comes close but it's still so buggy and lacks features. Samsung still has the smoothest browser, thats for sure...

Ok so i always hear a lot of people saying how they dislike touchwiz and that stock android is the best blah blah blah... So I was wondering, would you guys have preferred a note 2 with stock android and no S-pen or do you love it with touchwiz? I'm asking because I love touchwiz, I think its the best skin out there and it is a big reason why the note 2 is so awesome. But would you have preferred a note 2 with the same super AMOLED screen, same 3100mah battery but no spen, no touchwiz ( bye bye multi-window, spen features.....) running stock android?
Touchsh*t is slow and ugly as sh*t. That's why I delete touchwiz launcher and use Nova Prime launcher. Stock android iterface is much faster and smoother. Too bad that CyanogenMod for all samsung phones is very very unstable and buggy. I'm forced to use samsung official rom's with half touchwiz (with deleting touchwiz launcher). Will be great if someone can do normal non buggy CyanogenROM and port S Planner, S Note and Camera app into it.
Besides, multiwindows from Note 2 sucks. Look at Galaxy Note 10.1 multiwindows, I tried it at mobile store, it is great!
I've been running cm based roms since the first galaxy s (galaxy s, galaxy s2 note 1, galaxy s3, galaxy note 2), however, I made the switch back to touch wiz on my note today. Reasoning: I just feel it's more useful than a cm based rom on this device, and it's not as bad it use to be (believe me). So my vote goes to touch wiz ATM. Will I ever switch back to a cm based rom? Of course, but it's not a must have for me, for the first time.

I can still use popup note, s-pen, multi window etc. My toggles in notification bar are still the same. I don't know what people are losing with using a third party launcher. It only adds to the phone.
TW is a framework, not just a launcher
Between those two, TW any day, any time. Stock Android is nothing but a hype.
'Swyped' from my GT-N7100
cm=fast+buggy (for now)
tw=a bit slow+stable
so own choice
for me as long as I can make call and play game, it doenst matter
I like TouchWiz(stock rom) as it's stable and quite fast. At the moment, CM based ROMs are too unstable.

Touchwiz isn't just the launcher for Christ's sake. This is why Touchwiz gets all this hate, people not realising this simple point. Yes, the Touchwiz LAUNCHER is crappy and a lot of people including myself use one from the store, but Touchwiz itself with all its features is by far better than the featureless stock android (CM ect..)
Note 2 is my first Android device that I'm using completely stock...
I don't know why. ... I had many other android phones and tablets and all of them were flashed custon roms and kernels only couple of hours after purchase. ..
I love my note 2!

Yup I use apex launcher and S pen multi window and all the features work in it I don't like touchwiz just try apex launcher. Its awesome and highly customisable with air view works in it and holo look. Touchwiz is not that customizable however its good for the ppl who wants simple , fast and easy UI.
I recommend using a launcher mainly with NOTE 2 use Nova and Apex.

All phones I've had previously I've always ran CM. Once I got the Note 2 didn't find it necessary. Phone runs great on TW and has great features that I actually use at work and home life. And the battery is just perfect.

What?!
I don't even know where to begin...
No. I will exercise restraint. IMO, multiwindow is and can be very helpful. Sure, it's much more useful on 10.1-inch screen, but that doesn't make it less useful on Note2 and its 5.5-inch screen. It's multitasking heaven IMO.

Both are good...
Friends,
We are on Android, the most powerful OS currently on market (I think everybody in XDA will agree to this). Then why do you people worry. You can always switch back and forth between them.
You have Titanium Backup if you are rooted and even you have Carbon for unrooted device. So better give it a try for all the roms available. All of them are great. And i personally love CM 10.1 with all its additional customization features.
So i used to switch back and forth between them
And i also heard that some devs have started working on dual booting, but i am not sure about the recent updates on it.
I love both, and at the same time, yes, Stock on Note II is excellent.

@B3311 Please explain what you mean as apex launcher is not warez.

Your poll leaves out another option and that is keep most of what it TouchWiz but add customization by using Nova.
I think by getting rid of touchwiz you're losing too much functionality with the phone. I've tried a few different roms and launchers. From completely different cm10.1 to just nova launcher and I always come back to touchwiz... There is no lag, from what I can tell, on touchwiz. Everything works the way it should. It's not worth it to lose the features that samsung added to this phone. If I wanted to do that I could have kept my note 1 running cm9.

As you are well aware, Blackmarket Alpha is a warez site. Your editing skills are marvellous. Idiot.
AOKP (or CM, or AOSPA..) all the way. Retains the functionality of the S-Pen and only loses multiwindow, which I don't find useful anyway. Also, it allows me to use the latest version of Android (4.2.2) which has a useful account manager that lets my friends use a completely separate account from me.
I don't necessarily dislike Touchwiz but it's not as aesthetically pleasing, and I have a hard time understanding why it's about 500MB heavier than AOSP.
