Available space issue - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I got a strange issue. My Available space is 1.57gb although I should have 6gb+.
Even when I got to Storage I see a big free space in the graph, but available space shows 1.57gb
Attached a screenshot.
I got CM10.1 official installed.
Any idea?
Thanks

What available space does root explorer or similar show?
Sent from my iPad 4

Shows the same.

Free Space Disappeared after upgrade

I upgraded to 4.1.2 successfully this morning but noticed that my free space bass dropped by over 2gig.
Prior to upgrade I had around 4.8 free now only 2.2.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour?
How can I recover the lost space?
Thanks
Jon

That's kind of odd. Have not seen that before. Try this, download es file explorer from the play store. Bring up the menu go to manager and then hit sd card analyst. That should tell you what is taking up space.

This is a well known issue on some other device's, the SD card becomes sort of corrupted. The "lost" space is only accessible again once a factory reset/format has been done
A bid example is the HOX, people were claming to have like 8/10GIG!!!! less than they should, this space is called "Dead Space" and the cause is yet unknown.
Your only hope is to factory reset im afraid, sorry !
Hope this helps

Free space reporting incorrect amount

My 16Gb nexus is reporting only 700mb. The other occupied storage only comes to around 4gb.. So where's the other 7GB?
See attached photo.

Do you have any backups that you made via CWM or TWRP? Those don't show up there IIRC.
I do yes. That could be it. But wouldn't it show under "Other"?
No. I have about 3-4 system backups but none of them show up. They never have, so I guess that's normal.

I have had similar, usually reboot fixed the issue, if not, use DiskUsage App to see where the space is

I never trust the stock usage thing anyways. I use the one in Titanium Backup because it's always way more accurate. The stock one is off by over 100mb sometimes...

[Q] Bad storage reading

Hi all,
I've got a nexus 4 here, running paranoid android 3.9, and my storage is just not right, When I calculate the taken up space by stuff like music, apps, others I should have a bit over 3gb of free space. And my phone says I've got 1gb. Any idea of what might be the problem?
I'll post a snapshot tomorrow when I get to the computer, for some reason it doesn't wanna post it from a phone.
Thanks!

Use the app Disk Usage: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage
When you use it, make sure you click /data not just sdcard because /data directory is more accurate for checking storage
Thanks,
CWM backups take a bit more space then the ones on my old phone, where they would be around 500mb and on my nexus is around 2gb

(help needded) can't find my 8gb space

Hello everyone
Sorry for my last post. I didn't attach pic in that. Here it is. My model has 8gb space. Apps and files take only 4gb. And alloted space is 4.7gb for this. As a result I get storage space minimum notification constantly. So can anyone tell me where the remaining space is and is it possible to shift some space to storage
Thank you

There is 8gb there, but it's partitioned into about 4gb each. One for the OS and the other for media. So, you'll only be able to utilize 4gb for app storage.
Thanks for the reply. Is there any way to reduce the space alloted to OS?

Have you cleaned your app cache? I was getting low and was amazed how much space I gained. You can do it app by app or download something like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gannicus.android.cacheclearer
